The season 4 scenario, it's straight forward and to the point, and has a killer reward.
Tokens come in a variety of shapes and sizes, generally small pocketable items that are fragile, breaking them usually triggers the spell, or a key word

"It could be anything small that could fit in your pocket. It's activated by either a key word or by breaking it."
The dwarf and the shaonti will excitedly wait near the entrance for you to finish your activities, excited about the prospect of going home, and finally free from the mental compulsions of the wizard. They fear the journey back due to the Giants and other monsters, but they feel safe in your care

The big Ulfen pointed at the items attached to the statue.
"Those things aren't part of her. I'm going to try taking it apart."
Ursus tries to pull noted items off of the statue.
As Ursus touches the statue a spell is discharged

Ursus growled again as the worst of the pain passed and handed the whip to Daxter for examination.
"Davo. Merisiel. You two want to take a closer look at this thing before I try that again?"
Hugo realizes this is for his faction mission so he presses a ruby amulet up and gets...1d8 ⇒ 6 harmed also! 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15 Hugo reels as he takes 110damage (his hp won't reach past 1 though due to how harm works

"Yeah, we should let those two figure out how this thing works before we touch it again."

"Why touch it at all? Let's mark it for the follow-up team and move on. Listen, if I had to take a guess the tokens are probably secreted in a compartment on the large statute in the north-west chamber. Or possibly in the altar in the western chamber. But before we check those chamber, we might as well explore these other chambers."
Davo will proceed cautiously, scanning the way as he goes.

Hugo moves back a few paces and channels the healing powers of Abadar for his last time of the day.

Daxter just nods as he follows quietly behind the rest of the party.
Hugo, your locate object finds no other items like yours
no trap is visible on the statue, although you realize there is probably one there, it must be pretty clever, more study can perhaps show you how to disable it, also the feather radiates strong transmutation magic
Merisiel will take some extra time looking for a trap. T20 36 = 36
She eventually notices very faint rune triggers, very delicate and they look very difficult to disable
"There appears to be some faint runes setup as a trap here, although I believe they may be past my skills. Does anyone have a means of assistance?"
Gnome
"By Aroden, is it so blessed important to disarm this trap? Here, give me a hand"

clergy branding themselves with the Sihedron rune, and
flagellations are a common theme.

The door seems stuck, ursus struggles and grunts and groans against the door and it budges not one bit, whatever is behind it is inaccessible the band of adventurers present. The bard thinks it likely that this is the foyer anyhow, and that that was just a collapsed entrance to the shrine

"It looks like all we have left to do if figure out the talking statue."
After leading the group back to the previous room, the big Ulfen looks back to the party.
"So who is up for whipping themselves?"

"Indeed we do have to deal with the statue. I for one am not a fan of flagellation."
Male Half Elf Cleric-16/ Ranger-1 (HP 157/157; AC:25, T:14, FF:22; Fort:+18(+20) Ref:+14 Will:+22; Init+5; Perception+28) {i} {0/11 channels used, 2/3 rod-q, 0/3 rod-x, 0/32 hops, 0/11 inspired word +2, pyrex 0/1 might 0/1 } {fly, death ward, prot evil circle, resist fire 30/50min }
"Daxter, would it be worth dimdoor-ing past the stuck door and then teleporting back out? Or do we even know what we seek is in there? Otherwise, we would have to wait a day to summon something that might be able to get into the room...unless it is magically warded against entry by ways beyond the door itself."
Gnome
I will make the appropriate checks on the bas reliefs, take 10, min 25 on any knowledge
In his high pitched, gnomish voice Davoliznakamushka ruminates:
I wouldn't bother with the blocked door, as I think it used to be the entrance.
As to the statue, one would surmise that we either have to complete the flagellation ritual or bypass it to recover the tokens from the statue. Magical riddles or rituals such as this tend to be pedantic; perhaps we could fool it.
I think it would be better for our eternal souls to trick or bypass it - I wonder if having a Sihedron rune might help, or if we could use the wizards body as a rune canvas without his express permission....
He rambles on a bit longer mulling through possibilities.

Ursus shrugs.
"This sounds like your area. What should we try first?"
Gnome
Davoliznakamushka puzzles over the runes on the dead conjuror, looking for a pattern or theme he can deduce from the magical words.

Daxter sighs as he realizes what he must do. The others were too weak/squeamish. He steps right up to the statue while drawing the his blade out. "The needs of the many."
He kneels in front of the statue and cuts his hand in an act of prostration.

Hugo watches in surprise as Daxter approaches the statue and cuts himself. Knowing how close he came to death minutes ago, he wonders if he will be able to save the enchanter if things go horribly wrong.
"Um, Daxter..."

Davoliznakamushka looks askance at Daxter. "Of course, for those of us whose souls are merely bargaining chips in the first place..."

"Oh, nothing...just making sure you were not possessed by the dead wizard and doing something you should not...please carry on."
Hugo looks over to see Gina and Davo's reaction...to Davo...
"By the way, who has the letter that was found on the dead mage? Did it say anything about this ritual?"

"That is a sound idea." Daxter will heed Davo's advice and carve Lissala's symbol into his arm.
