I can cast grease 2x per day. It would give you +10 to break free. Who should get it first?

I'm fairly certain that's indeed our best bet. Otherwise he'll just continue to cast nasty spells like this.
| Twigs |
I'd thought Black Tentacles had been horrifically nerfed, but reading it now I'm pretty much powerless to escape. Having only my last summon monster spell to contribute though I'm more or less out of the fight. I'll try for that concentration roll, but the spell damage means I'll be rolling twice. Yuck.

It's being nerfed yes but we have party members with negative levels. Kalaron can't cast the required spells yet.

I am returned from military duty so posting will resume this evening.I will need a bit of time to read through everything to see where we are. I am assuming i have been a full defense junkie while away. If this is not the case, please let me know.

That 21 points of damage hurts.....gumbles grumbles.
At least now I can hit the golem with my admantine Dagger.
Clandelve Hammerhand
|
I'm trying to think through the Ioun stone possibilities and how to solve this.
1. Attack them. Clandelve could try smashing one with his hammer and see if that does anything.
2. Try to dislodge them from their orbit. We have tried this to a limited extent without success...maybe grab all of them at once?
3. Dispel magic or similar. I don't see that Archi has this at his disposal, and the magic is likely so powerful it wouldn't work.
4. Search for other rooms...this hasn't really worked for us before.
Of these options, I think #1 is worth trying. I know it might destroy potential treasure, but I could hit a less-valuable one and see what it does. Maybe hitting one would disrupt all of them?
Other ideas?

The earlier mage told us we'd have to kill Rozimus to escape. Could be there's a presence contolling him we need to defeat.

You are guessing, that is correct. :)
By casting magic jar, you place your soul in a gem or large crystal (known as the magic jar), leaving your body lifeless. Then you can attempt to take control of a nearby body, forcing its soul into the magic jar.
Just pointing out that Ion Stones are pretty much just gems or crystals..not confirming if your new found companion is or isn't possessed by someone else..just pointing out that it's not the only thing that could be going on based on the new information
You have (actually already had) all the clues/information to figure out at least 1 or 2 of the ways to get out.
Also..which bad guy are you referring too? You already killed a bunch of bad guys.
Clandelve Hammerhand
|
I guess whichever bad guy would still be controlling the new companion? If he is under control of a bad guy who is somewhere else, there must be a bad guy still alive, right?
Shayla Amye
|
Not necessarily. If Rozimus's soul is placed inside a magic jar and someone else's soul is in his body, the original body of that soul inside Rozimus could still be dead. And there's not a single undiscovered room left on the map. So unless there's another map we haven't seen yet, I doubt there's anyone but us and Rozimus left.
I think we should confront Rozimus and try to figure out if he truly is who he says he is. Does someone with better diplomatic skills than Shayla volunteer?

Here's a compilation of major clues from the gameplay thread. I could have missed some. I still have no idea what exactly to try.
---
Seek to escape into some unwritten time, eh? By now you must have realized your ioun stone array has failed. You now stand marooned in time, living a day, an hour, a single moment stretched into an infinity over countless centuries yet to dawn-one final lesson in obedience from your very, very disappointed master.
---
He introduces himself as Rozimus. He explains that he went into this dungeon with his companions to explore it for ...uhmm.."scientific reasons" (= he clearly means to loot); a heavily bearded bald human wizard, an armored elf with the symbol of Sarenrae on her shield, and a bulky half-ore warrior with tribal markings and a nasty spear. But they got separated and he fears the worst for them. He sees value in strength in numbers and he thinks that teaming up with you guys would be a good idea...as long as you keep that elf away from him.
---
As the party enters the room images of yourselves - aged dozens of years with torn clothes, ragged hair, and crazed eyes-manifest among you. Faces contorted in pitiful expressions and grasping with emaciated, ill-nourished hands, they plead;
Clandelve:""We helped him destroy the time lock, and were forever trapped! You still have a chance to save yourselves, to save us!"
Shalya:"Help us!"
Lars"Don't believer Togarin!"
---
He introduces himself as Togarin and explains that one of his fellow apprentices, a brilliant schemer named Vuzhon, escaped Nhur themon's time lock by riding a man named Rozimus's body to safety.
"Vuzhon is clever," Togarin says, "but I know more about souls and immortality than she does. So long as her true body remains affected by the time lock and her mind is in normal time, the magic jar allowing her into Rozimus's form will never expire. But should the time lock fail, her body will age thousands of years in a moment, and will no longer be a suitable receptacle for her soul. I will not let that happen to me. The only real way out for any of us is to destroy the time lock, and the best way to do that is to create a paradox."
He seems a little too pleased as he tells you that the best way to create a paradox is to find Rozimus wandering the Sanctum during a time shift and murder him.
(He doesn't seem to have noticed at Rozimus is with you, standing way at the back)
===
With the explanation you are hearing from Togarin and what you know about the dungeon so far you manage to deduce that it's entirely possible that the Rozimus which is with you is from a time previous to the Rozimus that you're being told managed to get out

Since you have had a day or so to think about it, with access to a library to do some research.
It comes down to what Togarin told you: The only real way out for any of us is to destroy the time lock, and the best way to do that is to create a paradox."
There are 2 solutions that you can come up with (there are 3 actually..but I don't think you can piece together the last one)
Disrupt what ever time ripple effect is going on inside this dungeon level by creating a time paradox -> kill Rozimus (If an earlier version of him dies, he can't be possessed later)
Break the machine that's causing the time distortions (the ion stone array) - brute force seems a likely way of doing this.

day job (survival from hunting lodge): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
That was the last level, right?
Revvy, thanks SO much for running this! What a fun run! Clandelve was my first PFS character, and he first found an adventure in your Master of the Fallen Fortress scenario last year with the all-dwarf party. We kept going with Godsmouth Heresy, and then all through Thornkeep! You do a fantastic job of keeping up a good pace and making it fun.
If the adventure happens to continue anywhere, I'd love a spot. You have been great! :)

Thank you for running this.
Kalaron literally got to his current level via your games.
Day Job, +2 from Breath of experience 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 2 = 26
I'll look forwardto any other game that you'll be running as well.
I found the all dwarf party pretty fun to play in.

I'll spend 8 PP to remove 2 negative levels and 1280 gp to remove the last.
Day Job, Survival (Hunting Lodge): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Thanks for running Thornkeep, Revvy! When the all-dwarf party was in need of new members I wasn't sure if I should apply with Shayla, but I'm very glad I did. I've had a lot of fun in your games!
Everyone else, thanks as well! It was awesome playing with all of you! :)

Thanks for the game Revvy! Definitely some exciting moments, took a bit.of thinking and teamwork to pull it off!
I'm glad I could be part of getting the last couple of dwarves across the finish line. And now Lars is 7th level, so I can play high tier games if need be! He's getting a pregen credit from Amiri now too...
Dayjob is Perform: Oratory. I'll tak 10 forna result of 20.
Archibald the Addlebrained

Sorry for the delay! I really appreciate the three games you've now ran Archie through, and whoever beat the sense into me to make me stay on for the rest of the dungeon. It's been a pleasure. :)
Craft (alchemy) + Crafter's Fortune: 1d20 + 13 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 13 + 5 = 30

I received it and it looks fine. Thanks, Revvy!

Cheers revy!
Looks like that pesky Fame Purchase Limit still isn't raised. I'm sitting on a giant pile of gp and trying to hold out for some metamagic rods, but it just doesn't seem to want to happen.
Also hooray! Beast Shape II! My transformation into Merlin from a Sword in the Stone is complete. Thanks for a great run, guys. I'll catch you around on the boards. :)

Received it and everything looks great on my end.
Thanks again for running such great adventures. Clandelve started with 0 xp and ran all the way through level 7 with you, which was incredibly enjoyable and much appreciated. The Fallen Fortress scenario you ran him through was my first PFS game, and I've been hooked ever since!
Hopefully he'll get another chance to run with you someday.
Thanks again!!!

Received mine and similar to Clandelve, Kalaron rose through his current levels through your games.
