Gronk, I rolled an initial will save to disbelieve, assuming everyone at least tested the walls around them. I have now also filled in the walls that were found to be solid by disbelievers with a black line.
Random lends his wand for healing, with Pentor handling the casting. Valais ducks her head in gratitude, waving away the need for a 4th healing, saying "I am well enough now, thank you."
Only moments after Turk has disappeared, you hear his skald song echoing through the corridors. The sound seems to be coming from the south.
Turk draws his swords and tests the wall nearest him. He remembers little about this part of the maze, but his sword passes through the section to the east.
Turk Int check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 Turk Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 Chance wall is illusion: 1d100 ⇒ 26

Valais Int check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16 V Will save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Everyone detecting magic sees that there is indeed an aura of magic surrounding you. It seems to emanate from everything thing you see. Your memories of the place are insufficient to remember the layout of the ruined maze you saw before, but you can recall enough to suspect that you are seeing the maze as it once was a long time ago. Some walls are destroyed, but some sections still stand firm, making traversing the maze a confusing and frustrating ordeal. As Gronk and Pentor step through the illusory section Gronk discovered, everyone sees that wall take on a ghostly appearance as they can see through it to the passage beyond.
OK, so everyone, including Turk now understands that an illusion is at work here, but unfortunately the magic is powerful and the fact that many walls are still actually present complicates things. You must interact with each 10-15 foot section of wall individually to disbelieve that portion of the illusion and even then, there is a chance the wall is actually solid. Once per round, you may roll a DC 15 Intelligence check to grant you a +2 bonus on your will save to disbelieve a particular section. Transitioning to rounds now and I have combined the maps.

I was trying to draw you to me. the skald answers. And it seemed to have worked. When lost it is usually better to stay in one place until found. I do not know of a creature but if one is here and native to this maze of illations then I bet it is well suited to hunt here and already knows where we are at.

![]() |

"Well, we should resume. Whatever's coming up from below is probably not illusory, and they may know this maze already."
Not really sure if it matters which walls are illusion or not, there's not a lot of dead ends anyway. It seems like we just need to decide whether to go N, S, E, or W.

Pentor discovers a solid wall in between himself and Turk and so moves around the way Valais went. The walls Shamak and Gronk investigate seem solid as well.
As best as you can tell, you believe you need to move Northwest from your current position to reach the passage leading up to the surface. Unfortunately Turk can literally not move back the way he came... his feet simply will not move when he tries.
Basically Turk must go south before he changes direction and he cannot walk back across the yellow line.

Pentor finds another solid wall, unfortunately. Yellow line is only impassable by Turk, everyone else can move freely through it. Solid black lines represent impassable walls for everyone and dashed white lines indicate illusory walls that you can pass through.
Gronk has better luck, finding a wall that can be passed through. He lifts Turk in a fireman's carry and hefts him back over the yellow line, but as soon as he sets him back down the skald's feet carry him right back where he started.
Valais suddenly rushes in Sir Pentor's direction, shouting, "Watch out, behind you!" She swipes at something but seems to meet with no resistance at all. A cold hand reaches out from the shadows to touch the Nagaji Druid, passing through him like fingers of ice, his youth and energy draining out of him.

Valais retreats back from the creature once she hears Turk's warning that only magical weapons can harm it. Unfortunately, she fails to consider the monster's reach and takes a backhanded swipe on her way, hissing in pain. She asks, "The oils, where are they?"
Valais takes 7 damage, eating the creature's solitary AOO. Val will use her own move action to draw out the oil of magic fang, I guess we'll assuming Turk is carrying them?
Shamak strikes the ghostly creature with what should have been a punishing blow, but though his magical blade finds some resistance, it still passes trough the thing's incorporeal form too easily. Yeah, it's a shame on the no crits, but look at it this way; Shamak didn't fail to be awesome, the critter is just immune to awesome. ^_~
Still, the ghost is not used to feeling any pain and so turns his focus on the growling half-orc. He whispers his name... "Shaa-maak" and he feels a momentary impulse to spin on his heel and walk away, much as Turk did earlier, but he shakes the compulsion off by sheer will. The monster gropes at him with his transparent hands, but Shamak manages to dodge out of the way.
Everyone is up!

The Pathfinders surround the ghostly figure, striking with magical weapons and holy fire. The incorporeal beast looks ready to retreat when Random's arrow strikes it and sticks, suspended in it's misty breast. It gives an unearthly bellow and then dissipates before your very eyes, the arrow clattering to the floor. The illusory maze fades along with the beast and Turk can once again move in any direction he chooses.
Valais leads you back to the stairway that takes you up into the library where you first encountered her. She hesitates, looking at you all with a worried human eye. "I will FRIGHTEN the people if they see me like this... Help me cover myself, and I will follow, hiding in the shadows."
That is all she wrote, folks! Good final combat! Feel free to make your report to Jorsal, the Venture captain in character if you like. You guys are taking Valais back to Starrise Spire, if I remember correctly?

![]() |

I don't think she ever said she wanted to go to Starrise Spire, but Random wouldn't object to the trip, as long as some of the others were coming, too. He wouldn't want to be alone with her.
"Ah ha! Leave that to me!" Random pulls his longsword and cuts down a curtain from one of the windows. He proudly picks it up, and then hands it to the 'venture-captain'. He leaves it to her to make it into a disguise while he begins to second-guess his actions, examining the remaining curtains, "You know, I can cut this one down, instead, if it's in better condition..."
Thanks for running us through, Bluedove! I enjoyed it!
