Janira |
Janira looks over at the pair Piety indicates. "Oh, those are the Boartusk twins, Garl and Shrade. Pathfinders, kind of..." Her disapproving look is hard to miss. "They feel that the essence of 'Explore, Report, Cooperate' is 'kick in the door, kill everything, and let someone else sort out the loot when it's over.' " She shakes her head.
When Janira hears of the rescue mission, her eyes go wide. "How exciting! Are you here to meet your shadowy contact, or to deliver a ransom? "
Kazzak Ebonheart |
Kazzak raises his glass in return. Then looks at Janira a bit disrespectful.
You mean that isn't what it's about to be a Pathfinder?
Traflet |
Traflet turns to Kazzak, frowning, Jiggo, I'd like to think so. Kazzak, brute force may solve a lot of things, but it certainly isn't a catch-all. Some situations require finesse and subtlety, and I certainly don't want to hurt anyone we don't have to.
Kazzak Ebonheart |
Well good that you have me then... The Half Orc concludes. I'd be happy to hurt anyone who...anyone actually...
Piety Angelbane |
"I thought we are here to retrieve a package." Piety says. "So we are on a package rescue mission" he says while laughing but stops when he sees that nobody else laugs. "Sorry!" he says and looks at his feet.
GM Lamplighter |
I moved you all to a table on the map - you can go ahead and re-arrange your icons yourself if you'd like. To fit everyone in, you're sitting at two tables, sharing the northerly one with a tall Qadiran man in blue robes with yellow trim. HE nods politely as you sit, and offers his hand in greetnig.
"I am Aram, bin Kaleel, Pathfinder and Lamplighter. Please, make yourself comfortable. I could not help but overhear your discussions regarding the rescue of someone's package..." A slight smile plays across his lips at Piety's joke. He lifts away the fold of his robe to display a wayfinder hanging from his sword belt. "Is there any way I can be of assistance to you?"
Jiggo Maelerant |
"Oh! A fellow pathfinder. I'm Jiggo Maelerant. It's good to meet you. Venture-Captain Drandle Dreng sent us here to retrieve a package. He said it would be here. He wasn't too specific about what it was or looked like. I think he's testing us." Jiggo shakes Aram's hand.
Garikai Frendosherks. |
"I like you, sir," Garikai says to Kazzak in orcish. "You are like a shark on land. Which is good, for what most fishermen, and people in general, fail to realize is that, without our ocean predators, the entire sea gets thrown off kilter. So I honor you, Landshark."
Garikai then switches languages to common.
"It isn't wise to be so liberal in expressing our goals and intentions. One never knows where traitors lurk."
Dailung |
Looking at the next arrival Dailung smiles her sweetest smile and just nods. "Tell me abit about your adventures. I bet you have seen dragons and undead and princes and princesses."
GM Lamplighter |
Aram nods sagely. "You are wise to be cautious, master dwarf, yet you are among friends here. I have served the Ten for many years, and will not thwart you." He glances at Dailung. "I have seen many undead, but none which have survived the encounter. I have also seen a princess, once, long ago... but she was more fearful than either of the dragons I have seen."
At this point, Heryn Gale comes over, having been replaced at the bar by a hulking half-orc woman. "I can take you downstairs now to get Drandle's parcel." she states. "Aram, you need anything?"
The Sarenite shakes his head slightly. "No, thank you, Heryn. I have all I need. " He turns to you again. "If you have need of assistance, I am usually at my shop, Kaleel's Curiosities in the Coins district. You are welcome at any time."
OK, back now - long weekend of sick.
Jiggo Maelerant |
"Oh wow, undead kinda scary, but they must be returned to their eternal rest. I will definitely check out your shop. I have more questions, but the mission comes first."
Jiggo turns to Heryn. "I think we're ready to go. I would stay longer, but someone's relying on this package!"
Good to hear you're feeling better!
Garikai Frendosherks. |
Garikai nods his head with relief at the words of Aram. He is curious at the mention of the shop, but does not say anything. Instead, he prepares to go behind Jiggo in the retrieving of the package.
Dailung |
Taking on last gulp from her mug, the little girl jumps to her feet."Onward to our destiny.... although it is just a little errant.!"
GM Lamplighter |
Heryn leads you behind the bar and through the kitchen area to a door. Inside the small storeroom are boxes, casks and supplies of every description, as well as a wooden stairway leading down to the cellar. Heryn pauses to light a lantern, and motions for you to follow her down the stairs.
You can give me a standard marching order for single file, please...
Heryn leads you down the stairs into another storage room with a stout wooden door in the south wall. The walls, of worked stone, are crisscrossed with a network of cracks and loose rubble, partially shored up by wooden supports.
Heryn pulls a ring of keys from her apron, unlocks the door, and opens it into a large open area. "Mind your step... the earthquake of '98 shook us pretty hard here, and there's still loose rubble around. Shouldn't fall in on us, but you never know when something might shift."
She leads you into the cellar proper, which is large and roomy. The area you are in is bisected by a large collapsed area, spanned by a wide wooden plank. Beyond, a flight of steps leads down into a lower level, where you can just see the tops of shelves and wine racks in the light of Heryn's lantern.
Pausing for marching order, then we can continue.
Kazzak Ebonheart |
As Kazzak is a reach weapon wielder with Combat Reflexes it makes sense for him to be up front. OOC this would be a good time to cast buffrs but it wouldn't make sense in character.
Jiggo Maelerant |
"Thank you kindly! We'll grab what we need and leave before you know it!"
Jiggo can take the front, as well. He's mostly melee. His perception is only +3.
Dailung |
Dailung will be rearguard.
Traflet |
Traflet is probably best suited to staying at the middle/back, since his health is pretty low and he has no melee skills.
Traflet gasps in excitement, Ooh, you mean we might see a collapse? I've heard of things like that happening, old dwarven stories and what have you, but I've never seen one in person. Let's be careful though, we don't want to get hurt down here.
Traflet will cast Mage Armor, which lasts for an hour. GM Lamplighter, can you let me know when it runs out?
Garikai Frendosherks. |
Garikai, being a medic and protector, should stay in the dead center.
"Of course one should be cautious. The earth is impermanent, despite its appearance. All things decay and come to dust."
GM Lamplighter |
OK, starting from the front that looks like Kazzak, Jiggo, Piety, Girikai, Traflet, Dailung.
Heryn points to the plank crossing the chasm. Below, you can see about a ten-foot drop, into what appears to be a collapsed sewer pipe. "Just take it easy, and you should be all right." She carefully crosses, moving quite slowly, and then stands on the far side, awaiting you.
Let me know how you plan to cross - fast, slow, jump, rope, etc.
@Traflet: Will do.
Jiggo Maelerant |
"I'm not the acrobatic type, but this staff has helped me balance before."
Jiggo will slowly cross the plank, crossing the plank
Dailung |
Laughingly Dailung will cross the plank quite nimbly
Acro: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Traflet |
Traflet will stay in line, following Girkai across the plank. He waits to give Girkai a bit of room, then rushes to catch up, smiling all the while.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Kazzak Ebonheart |
Kazzak casts guidance on himself and crosses over slowly.
This looks a bit dangerous Kazzak grumbles as he slowly makes his way over.
GM Lamplighter |
Kazzak heads across the plank uncertainly, but it is wide enough to not be a balance problem. Unfortunately, the weight of Kazzak's armor is significantly more than the weight of an unarmored barmaid, and the plank begins to crack when he reaches the center of the chasm.
Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 Luckily, Kazzak is able to hurry across the plank as it breaks, reaching the far side without falling.
"Oh my! That was our best plank!" exclaims Heryn. "How will we get back now?"
Dailung |
Doing a standing flicflac Dailung smilingly says..."We can jump!"
Jiggo Maelerant |
"Hmm...Do you see anything over there, we could replace with, Kazzak? Otherwise we can climb down, then up."
Jiggo pulls out fifty feet of rope.
Kazzak Ebonheart |
I'll have a look! the half orc grumbles as he scans the area with his feline companion.
Puss aid another 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Perception with Guidance and aid another1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Jiggo Maelerant |
Rope it is!
"Alright. I'll lower the rope. Everyone climb down. If no one else has rope, I'll pass mine to Kazzak so we can climb up."
Jiggo will start tying knots so everyone can climb down.
Garikai Frendosherks. |
Garikai is quite nervous at the idea of crossing the plank to begin with, and when it cracks, he covers his mouth.
"This was probably a terrible idea," he said.
He sighs, feeling stuck with the decision, since there are two people quite literally behind him. Nervously, he waits his turn at the rope, and hopes that he doesn't fall.
"If this were water instead, I'd have no fear at all."
Jiggo Maelerant |
On the way down, Jiggo will just hold onto the rope unless he can find something to tie it against.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Once everyone is across, Jiggo will jump down.
GM Lamplighter |
You manage to get everyone down the rope and up the other side without further incident. Heryn keeps looking at the broken plank at the bottom of the chasm and shaking her head. After the group is ready, she leads you tot he stairway to the south. This goes down into an open are full of wine racks. "Drandle's "parcel" is a bottle of Ember Lake red, a vintage from the 4300's. Should be on the far wall."
Traflet |
Traflet laughs aloud, Well, I guess if he had nothing better for us to do, beats sitting around and doing nothing. Let's go get it.
Kazzak Ebonheart |
Hmmpf... Kazzak grumbles as he starts to sort through the bottles not at all happy about being tasked with such sissifuss work.
Kazzak Ebonheart |
Not sure if guidance is applicable here. As Puss can't read she can't aid on the roll...Perception1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 1 = 27
Dailung |
Looking around Dailung helps Piety with his search.
Perc: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
"Look at this bottle, I wouldn´t want to drink that one if it was the last wine on wait wait wait, this one... this one is a beauty. Heryn, how much for the 4308 "fête du Cayden"? It would be a shame to let it go sour? Holding up a dusty old bottle of chelish origin.
