Harlis Underbough |
Following Vassago and approaching the corpse Harlis compares it to his portrait. "Oh by the blessed. That is a shame. We appear to late to aid our fellow. It looks like we are now a retrieval team in a more formal sense." He looks over the corpse for sign of what might have happened.
Healing: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
GM Chyro |
A battered wayfinder with his name is still around his neck.
Upon Harlis' examination, he finds several half-faded bruises and puncture wounds, which indicate a beating and stabbing were likely the cause of death.
Sele the Thorn |
Sele uses wand of cure light on himself
clw: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
clw: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Harlis Underbough |
Looking over the remains Harlis ponders aloud. "Looks like our fallen friend was beaten and stabbed. Then I'm guessing left here for the crabs to remove the evidence. Should we explore and look for tracks or are we an impromptu Corpse Retrieval Team now? I have heard of them operating inside the Society."
Survival (untrained): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Spenser Quixote |
"Good heirophantii, a balm, if thee would?" Spenser indicates the trickle of blood coming out the side of his armor.
Harlis Underbough |
Nodding towards Spenser and seeing the his channeling of divine protection may not have been enough for the others calls again upon his deity. "Iomedae, heal those here that we may pursue your cause."
Channel (normal): 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 1) = 12 of healing.
GM Chyro |
Despite thorough searching, nothing of value is found in the remainder of the cave.
Swim checks to get to the boat again, if you please, after which we can get to the floatsam graveyard.
(Whoo~~~~ooo)
Harlis Underbough |
Harlis turns to Sele assessing the strength of the nagaji. "Will you be able to carry the corpse out? We should return it to the lodge as he may not have finished his mission on this plane and have the resources to resume it."
4 Swimming rolls, correct? He then casts heroism upon himself, noting he has waterbreathing if that makes it easier to take a longer less dangerous way.

GM Chyro |
4 Swimming rolls, correct?
Only as much as needed to pass the check.
And thus, the team swims back towards the boat, where Keera sits with Sobrino, enjoying the cool breeze.
The first two to come back up are Harlis and Sele.
Spenser struggles for a moment, but launches himself against a rock towards the surface.
Vassago is shoved against the rocks first, 1d6 ⇒ 4, but comes out afterwards.
------------------
As nobody has survival, but Harlis has a +4 mod on wis, the survival check is a pass. :) Yay for the cleric.

Out of the fog rises the prow of a ship, jutting from the waves at an incline.
Seaweed and gull droppings decorates across the vessel, and the verdigris-encrusted brass nameplate reads Iron Tide.
The mast of the Iron Tide protrudes from the water at a steep angle, and behind it rises the mast of a second ship, straight as an arrow, piercing the fog and beginning somewhere below the first ship.
All that is visible above the water are the forecastle of the Iron Tide, its mast, and the forward mast of another ship.
GM Chyro |
From port to the cave was 20 minutes. The PDF seems to assume the party returns to port and goes from there to the floatsome.
Heroism was 10 min a/lvl, i'd say that one expires when you arrive.
Sele the Thorn |
The iron tide is our target? Sorry exceptionally busy the last week.
GM Chyro |
Indeed, good sir.
And i will face busy days too, i've got a temp job at a distribution centre for a toy company. The place is massive. Lots of manual unloading to do.
Harlis Underbough |
Harlis looks and sighs. "I miss my steed already with all this swimming, but looks like little choice here. I would suggest we head to the fo'castle and maybe try to walk down inside? While I have water breathing I also have a pair of scrolls of air bubble in case of emergencies."
GM Chyro |
1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 - 2 = 23
1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 - 2 = 23
Given the angle of the sunken ship, climbing up to the forecastle is a DC 20 climb check. The surface is also considered difficult terrain.
Vassago Ilsidore |
So wish I had my flame jet ability...
Vassago pulls out rope and a grappling hook, and swings it up. "I do prefer an easier route.", he quips as he begins to shimmy up.
How tall is it to the forecastle? If it's 25' or less, than the DC is now 5, otherwise it is 10
Climb: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Harlis Underbough |
"Good idea on the rope. This reminds me of how used to I am being mounted and all of these clamoring around is a small trial. I have a length of silk rope in my haversack if needed." Harlis says to Vassago as he pulls out his rope and eyes the distance.
Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
He then proceeds to slip, caught only by the knots and Harlis attempts again to climb upwards onto the ship.
Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8
GM Chyro |
@ Vassago, unspecified on how high, but by scale of the map, it looks to be about 25-35 ft at highest point.
As Vassago climbs up, followed by Harlis, he comes to an unpleasant discovery. Two men await him with rapiers drawn.
Rapier vs ff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 Stabbity, SA: 1d6 + 3 + 3d6 ⇒ (2) + 3 + (2, 6, 3) = 16

Rapier vs ff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 Stabbity: 1d6 + 3 + 3d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (2, 1, 3) = 10

Vassago gets stabbed for 16.

Precariously hanging onto the rope and seeing blood fly from the repeated hits to Vassago, Harlis calls to his companion. "Retreat, they have the high ground."
He then tries to climb back to the boat and pulls out his reach rod.

Sele the Thorn |

Vassago Ilsidore |
@GM: How far was the jump? Because I'm only prone if I take lethal damage and making the Acrobatics check negates the first 1d6 of falling damage and makes the next 1d6 nonlethal damage. After that, then it is lethal damage and makes me prone as normal. Falling damage
And to make sure I understand... so I climbed up, get stabbed, and jumped back down versus moving in or working my way around the foes to further engage them? Just want to make sure I got this right :)
And lastly, I assume that I can attack the foes with range from my position, but then they'll have total cover for +4 AC and 50% miss chance, would that be accurate?
GM Chyro |
Thank you for the pointer. I'm editing the HP.
@ #2, yes. I figured moving onto the boat draws more aoo and flank, with risk of having to await your friends to finally get on board as well.
@ #3, yes to that as well.
Vassago Ilsidore |
Alright, just wanted to make sure! Here goes luck!
Vassago puts some more propulsion into his blast, sending a torrent of water up towards one of the enemies.
Extended Range water blast: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

GM Chyro |
Spenser follows Sele's example, and starts climbing the rope.
Sele would be 10ft up, Spenser 5ft.
Green trusts in the ledge/hand holds to provide him the cover he needs, and takes total defense.

Casting good hope, for the next 70 rounds all party members have +2 morale bonus on saving throws, attack rolls, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls.
GM Chyro |
The team feels themselves blessed with a renewed vigor, as Iomedae's divine energies surge through them.

Harlis tries to find a good stance to survey the fight above him. Peering up past the rope and his climbing companions he winces as the strike lands into Sele just shy of true. Selective channel to avoid the enemy. Reminder Good Hope still running and +2 to most things.
