"Die, Demon Bear, we need your shelter!"
"Demon Bear? Yes, that's certainly a possibility. Certainly more likely than a troll in a bear suit..."
Numalar rides forward on Sir Didymus, stopping short of the stairs down.
"*Huff.* Maybe this will keep you busy!"
A look of concentration appears on Numalar's face...
Concentration: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
And a burst of light flashes in front of the bear's face!
Using my SLA flare - DC15 Fortitude or Dazzled for 1 round. Probably won't do anything, but I'm at least -8 to hit at range right now.
Numalar whispers under his breath (his words carried by his message spells): "Zokon! Shuffle a bit to the north! And Posh! Fall back a bit to the south. Give me room to burn!"

Poshment Underhill |

Posh jumps as he's warned about the bear and turns to face this thing. He restarts his performance and moved 5ft to get a better sight on the creature.
Sorry for the late reply, people can add a +1 to their attack and damage who acted after me...Also moving to use up another spell on the thing. I think I might have a grease left as I only used the 1.

Round 9
"Well, Sir Bear, let me show my appreciation for forcing us back out in the rain."
Numalar advances 5' down the steps towards the bear. He pops something into his mouth and presents his symbol.
He shouts: "Qa' quv!"
Concentration: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
... and then expels a roaring gout of flame from his mouth in a 15' cone.
Casting burning hands, obviously. Using a dose of saltpeter for +1 fire damage.
Burning Hands Damage DC 16 Reflex: 3d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2, 2) + 4 = 9
Dang, another natural 20 on a check I needed a 3 on. Should have thrown my produce flame.

Alia of the Blade |

Dunno how I'll have time today and tomorrow, so I'm posting now. I'm still going after Posh, but don't want you to need to wait on me for the update once he posts.
Alia continues her vicious assault of the creature. While she would have been reluctant to murder an innocent bear, that healing factor and the dimension hopping where not natural.
I hope those Fey who lured us here enjoy the show. I'll not be bear food for you little bastards!
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 + 1 = 27+4 if prone 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3) + 5 = 12
Crit Confirm?: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 2 + 1 = 18+4 if prone 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2) + 5 = 10
Seems good I decided to wait for a potential greasing, I think that may make a difference on the confirmation.

Poshment Underhill |

looking at the size of grease it'd get you all so I best avoid that...
Posh, not certain what to do decides to root through his equipment to get out a tanglefoot bag.
It's a standard to get it so i only have a move unless I can use my move up to throw it? Eitherway, I'll keep my roll below...this is either going to go really well or going to accidently glue a party member...
attack vs bear's touch: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 = 20
...did not expect that...it's now easier to hit and covered in glue. Tanglefoot bag.

Alia of the Blade |

No, you already said that before. Grease is NOT a 10-foot-radius. It is a 10-foot square. The difference being that 10-foot radius means everything within 10 feet of a intersection, and a 10-foot square being 10x10 foot. Grease is exactly the area of a large creature. It's no matter but you already assumed the size wrong earlier in this battle and were corrected on it twice(the 2 posts below yours). There's of course no guarantee it would fail the reflex save again, but I still wanted to point it out for the future. Especially because if retrieving the bag is a standard, I don't think you can attack with it now, meaning I will miss again on a 18 which is slightly frustrating :)

Missing on a 18? Ouch...this bear is a real pain. I'll leave it up to the GM, but knowing that I'd probably do the grease first, knowing that to have a real affect and then use the tanglefoot bag the next round.

Celyne |

if it trips, you're at -4 to hit it with a ranged weapon like a tanglefoot bag... just sayin'

Blinded by fire and rage the bear goes down awkwardly on Posh's magical slick. It bellows in anger. Alia steps in to perform the coup de grace piercing the bear's heart. Its bellow trails off. The bear's big dark eyes turn to Alia's with a look that's almost sympathetic--beckoning.
End combat???

Zokon Santyev |

No.. it regenerates.. we watch it and see that it doesn't get back up

Scarlet Scarab |

"Yeah..." Scarlet catches her breath and prepares her swords. "Let's make sure it doesn't get back up. Posh, see if Naesalka is okay. Celyne, can you and Luna back him up?"

Alia of the Blade |

I concur.
With the beast going down, Alia remembers the wounds healing earlier in the fight.
The fact that the cursed creature seemed glad to have it's existance ended just reaffirms her in her decision.
Placing her Estoc on the side of it's head, she attempts to pierce the creatures brain from below the ears, bypassing the heavy-set skull.
Coup as well: 4d4 + 10 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 2) + 10 = 20.
Seeing Numalar touch it simultaneously, she speaks up:"Aye, we should make sure it's finally able to rest for good. Burning the body is probably out in this rain. Any more ideas?"
I think technically, drowning in the pool would work to bypass regeneration by making the creature suffocate. If it breathes. If it's some undead being, we may need to sever the head and bring that back to the Erastic Shepherd at Olegs if it resumes snapping at us. Was a temple of his god, he should know how to PROPERLY dispose of it.

"Careful, Sir Didymus... "
Somehow this post seems to have gotten deleted, so I am trying to reconstruct it. The Paizo site is as slow as turtle sex right now.
"Careful, Sir Didymus. It could merely be knocked out. Everyone beware."
Numalar approaches on Sir Didymus.
"Is everyone ready? Let us see if it is really dead."
Numalar leans over and touches it on the neck with his burning hand.
Can I coup-de-grace with produce flame? If not, ignore the second damage roll.
Produce Flame Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Luna Tiger |

Luna bites the bear again and gives a mighty shake of her head with her teeth embedded in it... then at a command from Celyne, trots after her mistress, muzzle stained in blood before she judiciously licks her chops.

Celyne |

Celyne calls Luna to her side after the big cat does her own version of a coup de grace on the bear.
"Come on, Luna, let's go check on Naleksa." She falls in step with Posh to go check on the young woman.
On the way to Naleksa, she grumbles to Posh softly, "I think I'd rather be in a nice dry cave right now. Let's get Naleksa to come join us inside til this storm passes."

Scarlet Scarab |

Scarlet stands watch as her friends eliminate the bear. She knows it's the practical thing to do, as it quickly healed its wounds, but still, Scarlet can't bring herself to do it. That look haunted her as her energy restored and her fatigue ended.
"The cave will be a good place to rest in. Maybe we can try to bury this thing in the morning when it's dry."

Luna bites the bear again and gives a mighty shake of her head with her teeth embedded in it... then at a command from Celyne, trots after her mistress, muzzle stained in blood before she judiciously licks her chops.
Luna savages it to death. As she releases the carcass it is obvious that it has undergone a strange and terrible transformation--instead of a huge, savage bear, a small, old human man lies there his neck torn open. He's tiny and nearly naked. Whatever he once wore has nearly worn away. His skin hangs from his bones like ancient parchment. His hair is wild and patchy except for his long dirty, white beard. His brown eyes stare sightless at the sky.
Seemingly on queue the sky brightens, the rain ceases and shines through cracks in the grey firmament above.
Then suddenly the corpse dries like ash in a desert forge and collapses to dust. Saving you the need for burial.
Naleksa and the mounts are fine just drenched and slightly miserable.
What would you like to do?

Celyne |

Celyne and Luna return to the others as soon as they've checked on Naleksa. "Perhaps we should thoroughly search the cave or shrine or whatever it is. It would seem proper we should clean it up some... I wish I had some way to re-consecrate it, but I lack that ability. It is beyond my power."

Scarlet Scarab |

Scarlet simply sheathes her swords and prepares to clean up the area.
"Why didn't he say something? Why didn't he flee? Maybe he thought we wouldn't understand..."

Celyne |

"Maybe he was under a compulsion or curse?"

Alia of the Blade |

Alia looks at Scarlet: "No...he would not talk or flee...he was beyond that point, as the beast he had become. Some divine punishment, possibly.". Then she remembers from whom they originally heard about the "bear cave", and the feeling of being watched earlier today. Bowing to the woods as if to an audience, then rising again, she shouts:"And, did you enjoy the show? If you were betting on the bear, too bad.", before fetching Vega and her horse:"We can clean a bit here, certainly, and take another look around. I suggest we still make camp, even if the rain lets up, it's a good spot, Scarlet is wounded and I don't really feel like keeping going today, either. It's as good a place as any to explore the nearby area, and a better place for the night than most we could expect to find.", she answers Celyne, also looking at the others to gauge how they feel about it.

RPGGGM |

There are two separate sets of perception checks (and an additional knowledge check), one for the area in general and the other for the cave in particular.
The Cave If you want to take 20 on this perception check, you can, just be advised that you will have to do that for each 5 ft. square - like on an archeological dig. Otherwise you can just make one roll and say you walked the whole cave complex giving the place a quick once over.

Perception Cave: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Alia is so done with these Fey shenanigans, she doesn't even particularily care about any of the details...she does consider the pool clearing a good sign from Erastil, though, but does not feel a need to point it out specifically, assuming it obvious enough for everyone to notice.
No worries on the ninja, can't make that history check anyway :)

"Oh look... there's a secret door... over here!" She walks over to an alcove in the southeast part of the cave to point it out. Then she notices the tracks... "Looks like a kobold walked out of here, and back in again. We should definitely check this out.. perhaps now, or perhaps after a good night's rest and a chance to dry out... but if we do rest here, we need to set good watches."

Zokon starts talking about the designs on the cave walls
"The walls (particularly in the recesses) are covered in well-rendered cave drawings, visual tales straight from the parables of Erastil. It looks like this was once a sight of worship--though one long abandoned. Jhod would probably give his teeth to see this."
Also after Celynes reveal about the door

Sadly I don't have Knowledge (History).
Alia looks at Scarlet: "No...he would not talk or flee...he was beyond that point, as the beast he had become. Some divine punishment, possibly.".
"When he turned back into a man, I thought that he might be a werebear. But obviously there was more to it than that."
Numalar looks out at the pool.
"The pool is clear now. Perhaps that means the curse is lifted? It certainly feels that way. We may never know what this was all about."
"We can clean a bit here, certainly, and take another look around. I suggest we still make camp..."
"Do we risk the chance that something might come upon us in the night out of this hidden door? I would prefer to secure it; I can still cast three more spells today."
Maybe use a wand charge or two on Scarlet, then explore the area behind the secret door? If we go now I will still have 2 charges of produce flame left over, and the dancing lights will still go for a minute or so.

RPGGGM |

"Oh look... there's a secret door... over here!" She walks over to an alcove in the southeast part of the cave to point it out. Then she notices the tracks... "Looks like a kobold walked out of here, and back in again...."
Reverse that. The kobold walked into the wall and then out again by the looks of the top most tracks.
The map has been updated to reflect the location of the secret passage. Feel free to set up the camp as you like. Place yourselves, your horses, and lights where you want. Note the stairs on the map are probably a bit too treacherous for the horses to negotiate without the chance of a mishap though. If you decide to move them in let me know.
Its about midday. The storm has moved off.

Alia of the Blade |

Sure, lets explore behind the door. by the time I posted that, GM's post revealing a secret door was not even up, and I did not make the check. It was more about not "moving on" right away.

Erastil...he's everywhere. A real pain that he is probably watching me very closely... Posh is lost in thought as he looks at the symbols on the walls and the pool now appearing to clean up.
"All I can tell is that this temple is to Erastil, but I don't know why the pool suddenly cleared. Maybe Numalar is right and the curse is lifted? For all I know, it's a trap and we'll become like that bear if we aren't a follower..." he states his suspecion openly, not sure what to think about what's going on here.
Good thing we're not at a table. I have a terrible poker-face and have some player-knowledge too.

Scarlet Scarab |

"Sure, we can look around." Scarlet stands up, ready to face what lies beyond. She winces in pain and rubs her shoulder. "Could someone heal me up a bit, first? My neck still hurts from when... he... tossed me."

Celyne |

I don't recall who has the healing wand....but if no one owns up to it, I can just cast the spell...

I don't recall who has the healing wand....but if no one owns up to it, I can just cast the spell...
I don't recall who is carrying it... it's either you or Posh, I expect.

RPGGGM |

It took me a while to find but you did actually buy a fully loaded wand (with a big golden key head) from the Church of Abadar in Restov I haven't seen it recorded anywhere so whomever has it please do so with a list of current charges. It's company provisions I expect so so long as person can use it it shouldn't matter too much who has it. Celyne, and Posh can both use it.
So down into the depths it is. Standard marching order? Zokon (further ahead if pos.), Alia, Scarlet, Posh, Numalar/Sir Didymus, Celyne, Luna.
Note I have updated the map (to make things easier for myself later) but you have not opened the door nor gone down yet, so that any last minute preparation can be taken care of (like healing your cat and bloodrager for instance).

Celyne |

iirc posh had it, but if it makes it easier, we can say Celyne does if you want... but I have no idea how many charges have been used to date.
