Scarlet keeps her bow ready. "You guys need me down there?"
Scarlet will hold unless Zokon or Numalar tell her to back them up.

Round 6
Looks like Zokon squeezed forwards 5' away from the cliff ledge, though his icon is straddling the line between squares. If possible I will 5' step south into the space Zokon occupied before moving.
Numalar shuffles to the south a bit and looks at the raging mite.
"Not so fast, blueberry!"
With a flick of the wrist, Numalar sends another firework at the frothing mite.
snapdragon fireworks Reflex 16 for 1/2 damage and not dazzled: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Still have a standard action. Is Stracle down? (please?) :)
Numalar Auritonius
|
Okay, I'll go ahead and post conditional actions:
If Stracle is still up:
Numalar concentrates, and his hand bursts into flames. He reaches out to touch the berzerking mite with his flaming hand.
Concentration (casting defensively) DC 17: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Produce Flame vs touch AC: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 71d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Even with Stracle's AC penalty for charging and for raging, that's probably still a miss.
-------------
If Stracle is already down:
Numalar spits a glob of acid at the nearest Mite.
Acid splash vs. touch AC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 111d3 ⇒ 3
-------------
Scarlet keeps her bow ready. "You guys need me down there?"
"If you're not going up the shaft, why not?"
I was going to say no but with Scarlet's move she might be able to get here in time to have an impact.
Scarlet Scarab
Scarlet exhales. "Ceylne, take good care of Alia." She turns toward the crevasse where she was almost snapped in half and drops the longbow. With the cramped room and cramped cliff, it's way too crowded to fire an arrow.
She reaches the slope and climbs down. Then climbs across.
Double moving. 10 feet to the cliff edge, then I have 70 feet left for climbing. If all of it is DC 5, I can climb 15 feet without trouble.
Scarlet Scarab
Based on the discussion post, looks like I can spend a climb action to climb 10 feet.
Scarlet takes a look at the vines across the gap. Numalar almost fell when he grabbed a sawn-through root.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Mite, Three-Apple-High Evil
Round 6
Looks like Zokon squeezed forwards 5' away from the cliff ledge, though his icon is straddling the line between squares. If possible I will 5' step south into the space Zokon occupied before moving.
Zokon is still on the slope. Numalar can't 5-footer south into Zokon's spot without a climb speed.
Numalar shuffles to the south a bit and looks at the raging mite.
"Not so fast, blueberry!"
With a flick of the wrist, Numalar sends another firework at the frothing mite.
Still have a standard action. Is Stracle down? (please?) :)
reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 -1 hp, Nope.
Numalar concentrates, and his hand bursts into flames. He reaches out to touch the berzerking mite with his flaming hand.
Even with Stracle's AC penalty for charging and for raging, that's probably still a miss.
Yep.

I could swear I responded to this last night. My post seems to be gone. So:
"He's saying 'no, not-'"
Numalar looks back.
"NO! NOT THAT ONE!"
Celyne
Celyne will continue to care for Alia, healing her more as needed, one charge per turn until she's in fighting form again. Then she'll do her best to catch up.
RPGGGM
The mites press in on Numalar and Zokon even as the pair attempt to gain footing in the room just beyond the slope. The little berserker swings both her weapons wildly at Numalar, while the others draw a knife and a sword respectively and close with Zokon.
Stracle (red) morningstar v Numalar (v climbing): 1d20 ⇒ 19 damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 hit!
AND
Stracle (red) dagger v Numalar (v climbing): 1d20 ⇒ 12 damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1 miss!
yellow dagger v Zokon (v climbing/squeezed): 1d20 ⇒ 11 damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2 hit!
Laia (dk blue) rapier v Zokon: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 hit!
giant tick bite (charge): 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 = 12 damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 grab?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Two of the mites score a hit (with morningstar and knife respectively) while the third leaps off the table (upon which sits a hideous gargoyle statue) and moves to a flanking position at the top of the rise. Meanwhile the giant insect creeps closer, the pimply mite on it's back shouting incomprehensible orders/gibberish, and gesturing with its trident.
Climb checks! DC 5.
Conditions normal light within 30 feet of Zokon's sunrod, with dim light out twice as far, otherwise darkness.
Medium creatures are squeezed for space. Squeeze Each move into or through a narrow space counts as if it were 2 squares, and while squeezed in a narrow space, you take a –4 penalty on attack rolls, and a –4 penalty to AC. Note The room with the table in it is itself large enough to accommodate Medium-sized characters (and bugs).

Well, since I want to save my last spell for a burning hands against the big critter... I'll chance it and not use draconic defense.
climb DC 5: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Numalar staggers, and falls to the ground, and begins sliding back towards the chasm.

Since my square is a 45-degree slope, is there some kind of check I can make to avoid falling into the chasm?

It is a Climb check DC 15.
Zokon can also attempt to grab Numalar as he slides (and since he's using a spiked gauntlet he doesn't even need to drop his weapon to do it). Doing so requires a successful melee touch attack against Numalar (currently he doesn't have a Dex bonus to AC, and could fogoe it regardless). If Zokon hits, he must immediately attempt a Climb check (DC 15). Success indicates that he caught Numalar, but Numalar's total weight, including equipment, cannot exceed Z's heavy load limit or Zokon automatically falls. If Z fails his Climb check by 4 or less, you fail to stop Numalar’s fall, but doesn’t lose his own grip. If he fails by 5 or more, he fails to stop Numalar’s fall and begin falling as well.

Right now you've got the gnome in one hand, your other hand clutching to the slope or the ceiling--just like in any good action movie. Perhaps you have palmed his hat and it is only Numalar's attachment to it that is keeping him aloft. These are just reactive actions (like saving throws). On your turn you can place Numalar somewhere, or on his turn he can climb up on you, or the roots, or what have you.
I wanna give Posh a few hours to post in and then we'll move on.

Long story for today. I'll state in discussion
Posh was originally going to start climbing, though the appearance of this large tick and mites made him reconsider for a minute and decides to cast vanish before grasping onto the stalactites above and climb across.

That''s bad enough to fall. Posh can try and reflexively grab the slope (Climb DC 15) before rolling off the edge and into the centipede''s crevasse (a 20' fall). I think Scarlet was climbing to the far-side this round so I don't think she can grab Posh. Still, red pandas.
Also, as mentioned before I think Posh has been dragging around about 120lbs of stuff on his back giving him huge movement penalties with little upside.
Alia of the Blade
"What is going on? Where's everyone headed? Did you take care of those above?" Alia sits up, glad that even unconscious, she had not lessened the grasp on her blade. The weapon was a part of her, and she would have felt even more vulnerable without it than she already did.
Oh, a very real question...there's been 3 more named Mites with ranged weaponry in the shaft above...they could circle around and meet up with the others, or come down and try to pepper you guys from the other side of the crevisse. I'm holding position with Celyne hoping her healing will be sufficient to deal with them if they decide to come down here...or did I miss something?

After hauling Numalar up onto his back Zokon moves back across the ceiling. However, all three mites see his move as an opportunity to strike!

As Zokon hauls Numalar away, Numalar says, "My good man, what are you doing? We have them on the run!"
He looks back at the raging mite, and points behind her. "We may be out of reach, but that carrion crawler will do you in for sure!"

By a combination of Mikmek's barked warnings, and Numalar's free action translations, Scarlet can move across safely... She thinks. ;)
Gotta run. I'll finish up Numalar's action's results later tonight.

Sorry, forgot the reflex save
reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Posh appears to manage to just catch himself, but attempts to climb back up to the ledge, however it appears he is continuing to slip.
climb: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (11) - 6 = 5
RPGGGM
Posh the trap didn't get you, the low climb check got you. So even taking the 16 from the reflex save as the roll for a Climb check (DC 15) to grab the ledge before I tumble to my potential doom roll Posh would still fall in. You would have to roll a natural 21 to make this check. To use current U.S. Presidential parlance: Posh is carrying a tremendous amount of crap. It's simply tre-mend-ous. He looks like an itty-bitty overachieving snail under all that gear. A 3 out of 10, topps. Topps! Sad. If I were him I'd fix this in my first 100 days! Because if you think being able to move is important in this dungeon... just wait for the next one.
So I'm going to ask again.

SIT REP
Posh has fallen into the chasm under the weight of his gear, and constant reminders about it. Scarlet has clambered down after him.
Mites are attacking from both sides, now with Konzo, at least having climbed down to attack Celyne. I believe Alia was planning on acting as a rear guard.
Zokon, with Numalar (and all of his associated encumbrance) clinging to his back is attempting to climb across the roof of the chasm and rejoin their friends.
I don't think Z can fail the Climb check (DC 5), but he's probably at a Medium Load (-3 Climb check penalty, 20 ft seed).

Produce Flame vs. touch AC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Probably a miss.
Numalar, hanging from Zokon's shoulder, throws another ball of flame at the mites. But the swaying back and forth throws off his aim.
"Agh! By Selbina's Tears, Zokon! If you're going to throw me over your shoulder like a sack of potatoes at least hold still!"
Celyne
just how long does it take to heal Alia 2 points? seems like Celyne has been healing her those same 2 points for a very long time.
RPGGGM
Back during Round 4 (back in the 'Dubya' administration), Celyne began healing Alia. Frustrated at the lack of healing bang from her magic she produced a wand and kept zapping Alia with it as if she were a dying patient in a medical drama that Celyne, the doctor, was not going to let go easily. "CLEAR!" *ZAP!* "CHARGE IT AGAIN!"
In the intervening time, what with all the excitement, I've lost track of how many charges and spells got fired off, but all that zapping would take 5 total rounds--finishing in Round 9. If Celyne wants to lay off the last 2 hp that she'll be healing Alia for, turn around and smack her attacker hanging out of the ceiling hole at eye-level just behind her, feel free. But Celyne you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, healer?
RPGGGM
Zokon climbs to the other side
Technically it would be 2 climb checks for a double move, but even at medium load (with both Mikmek, and Numalar guiding you past the traps), Zokon can't fail the roll.
