Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

The hit doesn't land, and yes you're right. Not sure what I did there, I'll fix it in just a moment!

EDIT: Here we go, sorry about that!
Map

Ioann seems slightly shaken upon seening man sized centipedes crawl into the room, even more so by Gellius' comment.

"These could eat a man... and your DISAPPOINTED!?" he says while drawing a dagger from its sheath.

As he does so, he reaches to grab the centipede with the other hand and then proceeds to stab it. Once the dagger is deep into the creature, he lets it go and stands back.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Stabing dmg: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Move action to draw, standard action to attack. Ioann does not try to grapple, the description was just for the style!

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Ioann buries his blade deep into the centipede who then thrashes around for a moment before falling completely still.

Terrance, you're changing your action, yeah?

yes

Terrance with some effort crawls up onto the sarcophogus, Torag, guide my aim and flings a blob of acid at the centipede by the crack.
acid dart: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3

acid dart 4/5 remaining

Move action 5' up and right(F8), standard action ranged touch attack (acid dart), free action speak

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

The acid starts to eat away at the giant insects exoskeleton. The centipede turns tail and runs, heading back towards the crack from which it entered the room.

Ake, since you've been holding a spell, you may use it as it flees.

Female Goblin hp13/13 Wizard 1

Waste not, want not. Eat Frost Vermin!

Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Ice,Ice, Baby!: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Ake raises her hand and causally giggles out a spell at the fleeing monster.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

You were holding Burning Hands???

Male Human Ranger 1
Spoiler:
(HP 11, AC 16, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +2, Init +4, +2 Perception)

Sorry for absence, commented in Discussion...

Any chance I could go, DM?

Female Goblin hp13/13 Wizard 1

I wrote hold action to cast with two possible triggering actions. I should have written delay.

No, I can't do that Burning Hands.

I was going to accept an Attack of Opportunity from centipede nom nom 1 and hope my AC was good enough to avoid it.

If I can not change to Ray of frost, the Ake would let it go, never know when you might need spells for something that's not a snack!

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Sorry, Orin, but the critter was just killed dead.
Erm, OK, I don't think that it was clear that you intended to change spells if someone got in the way but whatever. I'd only had you go because I thought you'd prepared and were holding the spell. You could have just as easily chose to act before the centipede too, so no biggie.

The centipede is hit with Akes spell and falls to the ground onto its back where its legs scramble at the air for a moment before stopping all movement.

"That was...kind of freakish..." mumbles Ioann before cleaning his dagger and sheating it. The man then proceeds to pick as many items from the sarcophagus as possible, taking care of the wooden case first.

Male Human Ranger 1
Spoiler:
(HP 11, AC 16, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +2, Init +4, +2 Perception)

Okay, that's fine.

Apparently more shaken than he had thought, he looks at the creatures killed and at the others. "That... That was different..." He looks at Ioann as he pulls things free. "Any idea what these are?"

Male (Channel 2/2 (Will DC 9) (D6)),(Acid Dart 7/7 (d6+1)),(Protection ability 7/7) Dwarf Cleric 1 (HP 9/9),(AC16/15, T 10/10, FF 16/15 +4 vs Giant Subtype (With/Without Shield)),(Saves F4, R1, W7 +4 vs Spell,SLA, +2 vs Poison),(CMB 2, CMD 12),Init 0, Perception 5 +2 vs Stonework

Umm bugs ? Terrance quips as he hops off the sarcophogus.
Ah the items, not yet.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Are you wanting to take the time to identify everything here, or are you gathering it up to take back to the Lorrimor place?

Male (Channel 2/2 (Will DC 9) (D6)),(Acid Dart 7/7 (d6+1)),(Protection ability 7/7) Dwarf Cleric 1 (HP 9/9),(AC16/15, T 10/10, FF 16/15 +4 vs Giant Subtype (With/Without Shield)),(Saves F4, R1, W7 +4 vs Spell,SLA, +2 vs Poison),(CMB 2, CMD 12),Init 0, Perception 5 +2 vs Stonework

I am flexible either way, and can assist with the Identifing. provided the RNG works with me. :)

Male Human Ranger 1
Spoiler:
(HP 11, AC 16, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +2, Init +4, +2 Perception)

I'd want to do it back at the Lorrimor place, personally

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Witch (Dreamweaver)/2 HP: 9/9

"Until we know what they do, we should be cautious. However, if you see something you can use, hold onto it just in case. Ake, dear, could you please at least tell us which lovely items are enchanted?"

Male Human Alchemist 1 | hp 13/13 | AC13(15) T11 FF12(14) | Fort +3 Ref +3 Will +0 | Perception +4

"Oh no, bugs that can kill a man! If you're on guard duty out in the Varisian wilderness, it's a lucky night if this is all you encounter."

I'm all for taking a cursory glance at what's in the sarcophagus to make sure that it's not cursed or any other shenanigans. However, it mostly depends on how comfortable the Professor is in staying down here.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male (Channel 2/2 (Will DC 9) (D6)),(Acid Dart 7/7 (d6+1)),(Protection ability 7/7) Dwarf Cleric 1 (HP 9/9),(AC16/15, T 10/10, FF 16/15 +4 vs Giant Subtype (With/Without Shield)),(Saves F4, R1, W7 +4 vs Spell,SLA, +2 vs Poison),(CMB 2, CMD 12),Init 0, Perception 5 +2 vs Stonework

I don't think the professor is in any shape to discuss this. however, the father on the other hand. :)

Ah these bugs, they are small compared to some of the ones under highhelm. With a grin I think however, that these items come back to the Lorrimor place with us.

Male Human Alchemist 1 | hp 13/13 | AC13(15) T11 FF12(14) | Fort +3 Ref +3 Will +0 | Perception +4

*facepalms* Yeah, the Father. That's who I meant.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Father Grimburrow seems surprisingly unshaken by the insects and completely enthralled by the mystery of the false crypt and its hidden cache. "These will all have to be documented, of course. What exactly is it that you folks plan to do?"

Perception 10:
The darkwood case is decorated
with an image of a scarab with a single eye glaring from
its back—the same design that appears on the cover of the
Manual of the Order of the Palatine Eye among the books in
the professor’s collection.

Ioann may take a +1 to the above check.

Male Human Ranger 1
Spoiler:
(HP 11, AC 16, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +2, Init +4, +2 Perception)

Orin looks the box over. Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 "Guys, do you see that?" He points to the thing on the box. "It's the same symbol."

Female Aasimar (Angelkin) Paladin of Pharasma (Undead Scourge) 2 HP: 19/19. Fort: +8 Reflex: +4 Will: +7 (+2 vs Evil effects and to stabilize when at negative HP/+2 racial bonus on saving throws against death effects, energy drain, negative energy, and spells/SLA

Casting Detect Magic.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Knowledge?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Ioann gives a malevolent stare at Gellius for making fun of him before turning to Orin.

"Yes, I know. That is why took it first." he says, putting the box in his pocket.

Seeing as the others are busy examining the rest of the items, Ioann takes a step back. Now next to Gellius, he keeps silent, still mad at the man.

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Reading the description I knew that the symbol was similar to that of the same as on the book... so I was guessing that Ioann did too.

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Witch (Dreamweaver)/2 HP: 9/9

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

"Whether you are accustomed to monstrosities of that size or not, taking them out was impressive... it seems my magics have little sway over insect minds. While we have the sun we should head back. Ioann, was the book with the matching symbol one you've had a chance to peruse in detail yet?"

"No, it is the one that is locked... this might be the key..."

Male (Channel 2/2 (Will DC 9) (D6)),(Acid Dart 7/7 (d6+1)),(Protection ability 7/7) Dwarf Cleric 1 (HP 9/9),(AC16/15, T 10/10, FF 16/15 +4 vs Giant Subtype (With/Without Shield)),(Saves F4, R1, W7 +4 vs Spell,SLA, +2 vs Poison),(CMB 2, CMD 12),Init 0, Perception 5 +2 vs Stonework

Grinning Ravel just because you have little sway with the little beasties like that, doesn't mean that you are not important.

perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
That symbol looks familiar, but the rest of them should also come with us.
Father, our intention is to use these to assist us in the search for the professors killer

Male Human Ranger 1
Spoiler:
(HP 11, AC 16, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +2, Init +4, +2 Perception)

Orin nods. "As Terrance said. These should help us figure out what is going on around here. Now, let's take these out and inspect them somewhere a bit more comfortable, yes?"

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Ingrid:
The Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye is a very secretive organization thought to be based in Ustalav. The organization works against the Whispering Way and they also recently aided those responsible for defeating Kazavon, a blue dragon, who was styled the Lord of Scarwall.

Members of the Order delve deeply into political and arcane matters; they are sworn to guard Ustalav and its ancient traditions. One of the main works of the Order is the Manual of the Order of the Palatine Eye, which is adorned with the symbol of the Order: a scarab beetle with a single eye image on its back.

Ake:
I might be off on a couple of these as to what shows up as magical and what doesn't. Bear with me, either way, everything will be revealed one way or another.

There are a total of 29 arrows, all but 12 of them emit magic. There are a total of 7 potion vials, each emitting magic. A total of 4 scrolls emitting magic. The box has magic items inside of it.

You'll need to use Knowledge (arcana) and Spellcraft to determine more about what types of magic.

Ioann, nope otherwise I would have said it was the same originally. I wanted someone in the game to make the connection outloud. Now everyone knows.

"Another Secret Society, an ancient one, sworn to protect Ustalav and its ancient traditions. The Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye." Ingrid says after a few moments studying the symbol.

Male (Channel 2/2 (Will DC 9) (D6)),(Acid Dart 7/7 (d6+1)),(Protection ability 7/7) Dwarf Cleric 1 (HP 9/9),(AC16/15, T 10/10, FF 16/15 +4 vs Giant Subtype (With/Without Shield)),(Saves F4, R1, W7 +4 vs Spell,SLA, +2 vs Poison),(CMB 2, CMD 12),Init 0, Perception 5 +2 vs Stonework

So something else for someone to read.
Terrance walks over and takes a good close look at the area where the centipedes came out of.

perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Just checking to see if any more beasties come out

Really RNG, Really :(

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Witch (Dreamweaver)/2 HP: 9/9

"You sure you want your face that close?"

Male (Channel 2/2 (Will DC 9) (D6)),(Acid Dart 7/7 (d6+1)),(Protection ability 7/7) Dwarf Cleric 1 (HP 9/9),(AC16/15, T 10/10, FF 16/15 +4 vs Giant Subtype (With/Without Shield)),(Saves F4, R1, W7 +4 vs Spell,SLA, +2 vs Poison),(CMB 2, CMD 12),Init 0, Perception 5 +2 vs Stonework

Ah I cannot see anything anyways. Shall we head back to the professors place ?

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

And lucky for you nothing comes slithering out to bite you on the nose :D

"I think it would be best to get back with this equipment so that we can properly take stock of everything here. Lingering may draw the attention of wandering townsfolk. A complication we surely don't need." Ingrid says looking at the others.

Female Goblin hp13/13 Wizard 1

Begins to salivate at the new book.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening:
Will take 20 and try to identify the items back at the lair...er, house.

To many things here, the villigers could be a pain. Yes, Yes back to the house.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

You gather up the things from the sarcophagus and head out of the crypt. Father Grimburrow leads the way through the Restalands.
I need everyone to make a perception check, please.

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Witch (Dreamweaver)/2 HP: 9/9

As they exit the crypt, "Thank you for your escort, Father."

Terrance then looks around the Restlands.

As joyfull as ever, Ioann comes out of the crypt, staring at the ground and silent.

Perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (14) - 2 = 12

Sorry, I just gave m first thought to Ioann... just like at the talk about lack of ghosts.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

No biggie :)

Male Human Alchemist 1 | hp 13/13 | AC13(15) T11 FF12(14) | Fort +3 Ref +3 Will +0 | Perception +4

Gellius tips his hat. "Thank you Father."

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Waiting on Orin's perception roll.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Orin's Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Terrance:
As you walk along you happen to glance at one of the tombstones and see that the grave bears Ioann's name. The inscription says:“Come to my world, and be as I; as I am now, soon you will be; embrace your end and witness me.” A smaller inscription below that reads, “Died 4661 AR”.

Male (Channel 2/2 (Will DC 9) (D6)),(Acid Dart 7/7 (d6+1)),(Protection ability 7/7) Dwarf Cleric 1 (HP 9/9),(AC16/15, T 10/10, FF 16/15 +4 vs Giant Subtype (With/Without Shield)),(Saves F4, R1, W7 +4 vs Spell,SLA, +2 vs Poison),(CMB 2, CMD 12),Init 0, Perception 5 +2 vs Stonework

going a bit pale.
This is odd, Ioann, are you dead ?? pointing at the gravestone.
Just kidding, but this is really odd

GM:

What is the year?

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Terrance:
The current year is 4712

All but Terrance:
When anyone else looks at what Terrance is referring too, all the see is a weathered tombstone, too old to really even make out the name.
