The hit doesn't land, and yes you're right. Not sure what I did there, I'll fix it in just a moment!
EDIT: Here we go, sorry about that!
Map
Ioann Vilescu |
Ioann seems slightly shaken upon seening man sized centipedes crawl into the room, even more so by Gellius' comment.
"These could eat a man... and your DISAPPOINTED!?" he says while drawing a dagger from its sheath.
As he does so, he reaches to grab the centipede with the other hand and then proceeds to stab it. Once the dagger is deep into the creature, he lets it go and stands back.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Stabing dmg: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Move action to draw, standard action to attack. Ioann does not try to grapple, the description was just for the style!
DM Twilight |
Terrance Foehammer |
yes
Terrance with some effort crawls up onto the sarcophogus, Torag, guide my aim and flings a blob of acid at the centipede by the crack.
acid dart: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
acid dart 4/5 remaining
Move action 5' up and right(F8), standard action ranged touch attack (acid dart), free action speak
Ake of the Stolen Soul |
I wrote hold action to cast with two possible triggering actions. I should have written delay.
No, I can't do that Burning Hands.
I was going to accept an Attack of Opportunity from centipede nom nom 1 and hope my AC was good enough to avoid it.
If I can not change to Ray of frost, the Ake would let it go, never know when you might need spells for something that's not a snack!
DM Twilight |
Sorry, Orin, but the critter was just killed dead.
Erm, OK, I don't think that it was clear that you intended to change spells if someone got in the way but whatever. I'd only had you go because I thought you'd prepared and were holding the spell. You could have just as easily chose to act before the centipede too, so no biggie.
The centipede is hit with Akes spell and falls to the ground onto its back where its legs scramble at the air for a moment before stopping all movement.
Orin Gabor |
Okay, that's fine.
Apparently more shaken than he had thought, he looks at the creatures killed and at the others. "That... That was different..." He looks at Ioann as he pulls things free. "Any idea what these are?"
Terrance Foehammer |
Umm bugs ? Terrance quips as he hops off the sarcophogus.
Ah the items, not yet.
Terrance Foehammer |
I am flexible either way, and can assist with the Identifing. provided the RNG works with me. :)
Gellius Dandrae |
"Oh no, bugs that can kill a man! If you're on guard duty out in the Varisian wilderness, it's a lucky night if this is all you encounter."
I'm all for taking a cursory glance at what's in the sarcophagus to make sure that it's not cursed or any other shenanigans. However, it mostly depends on how comfortable the Professor is in staying down here.
Terrance Foehammer |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I don't think the professor is in any shape to discuss this. however, the father on the other hand. :)
Ah these bugs, they are small compared to some of the ones under highhelm. With a grin I think however, that these items come back to the Lorrimor place with us.
DM Twilight |
Father Grimburrow seems surprisingly unshaken by the insects and completely enthralled by the mystery of the false crypt and its hidden cache. "These will all have to be documented, of course. What exactly is it that you folks plan to do?"
with an image of a scarab with a single eye glaring from
its back—the same design that appears on the cover of the
Manual of the Order of the Palatine Eye among the books in
the professor’s collection.
Ioann may take a +1 to the above check.
Ingrid Van der Geist |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Knowledge Religion: Order of the Palpatine Eye: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Knowledge History: Order of the Palpatine Eye: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Ioann Vilescu |
Ioann gives a malevolent stare at Gellius for making fun of him before turning to Orin.
"Yes, I know. That is why took it first." he says, putting the box in his pocket.
Seeing as the others are busy examining the rest of the items, Ioann takes a step back. Now next to Gellius, he keeps silent, still mad at the man.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Reading the description I knew that the symbol was similar to that of the same as on the book... so I was guessing that Ioann did too.
Ravel Sigrún |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
"Whether you are accustomed to monstrosities of that size or not, taking them out was impressive... it seems my magics have little sway over insect minds. While we have the sun we should head back. Ioann, was the book with the matching symbol one you've had a chance to peruse in detail yet?"
Terrance Foehammer |
Grinning Ravel just because you have little sway with the little beasties like that, doesn't mean that you are not important.
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
That symbol looks familiar, but the rest of them should also come with us.
Father, our intention is to use these to assist us in the search for the professors killer
DM Twilight |
Members of the Order delve deeply into political and arcane matters; they are sworn to guard Ustalav and its ancient traditions. One of the main works of the Order is the Manual of the Order of the Palatine Eye, which is adorned with the symbol of the Order: a scarab beetle with a single eye image on its back.
There are a total of 29 arrows, all but 12 of them emit magic. There are a total of 7 potion vials, each emitting magic. A total of 4 scrolls emitting magic. The box has magic items inside of it.
You'll need to use Knowledge (arcana) and Spellcraft to determine more about what types of magic.
Ioann, nope otherwise I would have said it was the same originally. I wanted someone in the game to make the connection outloud. Now everyone knows.
Ingrid Van der Geist |
"Another Secret Society, an ancient one, sworn to protect Ustalav and its ancient traditions. The Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye." Ingrid says after a few moments studying the symbol.
Terrance Foehammer |
So something else for someone to read.
Terrance walks over and takes a good close look at the area where the centipedes came out of.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Just checking to see if any more beasties come out
Really RNG, Really :(
Terrance Foehammer |
Ah I cannot see anything anyways. Shall we head back to the professors place ?
Ingrid Van der Geist |
"I think it would be best to get back with this equipment so that we can properly take stock of everything here. Lingering may draw the attention of wandering townsfolk. A complication we surely don't need." Ingrid says looking at the others.
Terrance Foehammer |
My thanks for bringing us here father
Terrance then looks around the Restlands.
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
DM Twilight |
Orin's Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Terrance Foehammer |
going a bit pale.
This is odd, Ioann, are you dead ?? pointing at the gravestone.
Just kidding, but this is really odd
What is the year?
