Well it's official. the RNG has bad things in store for Orin. :) Thats all of us with an 11 or lower.

Kendra's Perception1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Kendra cocks her head to the side. "Shhh! Do you hear that What is that?"
She listens intently a moment longer, "There's a tapping noise. What is that?"
Kendra rises from her chair and follows the noise to Orin's room. After a moment she knocks quietly, "Orin, is everything alright in there?"
Terrance Foehammer |
More out of curiosity, than anything, Terrance follows Kendra.
I cannot hear any tapping, are you sure
Ake of the Stolen Soul |
TapPing? No i HEre nO No No tAp TAp taPPinG?
Unconsciously jittery, Ake also follows Kendra.
Cuddles slinks over to investigate the coffee, using a claw to scrap some from the side of Ake's cup. After tasting it, she spits it out, squats low, curling her tail down and shivers for several long moments.
Her posture clearly signals her dislike of the liquid.
Orin Gabor |
Hearing Kendra's voice, Orin's voice finally cracks and a loud, though short scream rips from his lungs, his legs finally giving out as he falls in a slump to the floor. "Help!"
And now Orin is known as the guy afraid of the dark...
Terrance Foehammer |
Lady Kendra, stay back Terrance then opens the door rapidly.
If the door was locked, will attempt to force it.
str check if neccessary: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
There is the RNG hating Orin again. :(
Terrance Foehammer |
Terrance stumbles into the room and looks around to see what cause the cry for help.
Orin, we are here
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
DM Twilight |
You enter the room and see Orin on the floor looking completely terrified. As your eyes roam across the room to see what the matter is, they land on a rather disturbing sight. Above Orin's bed, written in dripping blood is the word ORIN.
Looking over Terrance's shoulder and seeing no immediate threat, Kendra enters the room and kneels down next to Orin rubbing his back and whispering calming words to him.
Terrance Foehammer |
Terrance shudders a bit at the name written in blood.
Lady Kendra, can you get him out of here ? As he pulls out his warhammer.
I will follow out, and close the door
DM Twilight |
I don't remember what the DC was that we figured out for deciding what type of blood it was, and I honestly don't care right now. It's definitely human blood this time.
"Yes, of course. Come on, Orin, let's go get you some hot tea."
When Ravel comes to aid her, she nods at Ravel and says, "Thank you, Ravel."
Terrance Foehammer |
Terrance puts his hand on Gellius's shoulder. Lad, it's best if we leave it lie. and then gently moves him back towards the door.
Ingrid Van der Geist |
Silently angry, Ingrid stares at the writing, shifting her vision into the supernatural spectrum seeking residual evidence of what created the writing, her mind going through her training.

Orin Gabor |
Once out of the room, Orin's breath begins to steady. "I... I had a nightmare. I was locked up, and then those... Those letters appeared. And then I opened my eyes and... They were there. What is that? How can that happen?"
Terrance Foehammer |
After taking a quick look at Orin's hands to ensure that this was not a joke.
Well, from what I could see, there was no way that writing could have been there.
Orin Gabor |
Orin shows his hands, revealing no traces of blood save for the one drop on his hand. "Agreed. It must have been foul magic of some sort. And... Thank you, all. If it's okay, I think I will be bunking with someone else, at least for tonight."
Terrance Foehammer |
You were locked up, that seems to be an odd nightmare, with the town being so close to an old prison.
If it was not for the blood on the wall above your bed, I would write it off as a bad dream, but I think what the professor was researching, and where he was killed, and now this. It must be linked.
Lets take some time, for Orin, to regain his balance, then let us go see the good father, but on the way, look at the monument.
The bloody name, the bloody initial, they are roughly the same idea.
They must be from the same thing but what
Ake of the Stolen Soul |
What the heck, knowledge and stuff everything!
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21 really...seriously...

Any thing I missed: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Ake investigates the room thoroughly, searching for clues about this terrifying event.
DM Twilight |
After a moment Kendra makes her way back into the room and stands staring at the bloody name, her fingertips resting lightly on her lower lip, her head cocked slightly to the side as if a thought is occurring to her and she's trying to jog it loose.
Ingrid Van der Geist |
[b]"A powerful ghost did this. It's gone now, but it's presence still lingers."[b] Ingrid says quietly.
Terrance Foehammer |
A ghost ? Terrance quickly looks back into the room while his sight wavers into greys and whites darkvision.

DM Twilight |
Ioann Vilescu |
More interested in finishing his bowl of porridge, Ioann leaves the others the task of investigating the tapping. However, hearing Orin calls and then the resulting commotion, the man jumps up, causing his chair to topple. Taking a fiew quick steps toward the stairs, he stops upon seeing Orin come down. Ioann stares at him from top to bottom before heading toward the room to investigate what all the fuss is about.
Huh. his only reaction before going back downstairs.
Sitting back to go on eating, he addresse Orin.
"So, did you do it or did someone visit you? .... oh, any ideas why anything would do that to you?"
Terrance Foehammer |
That is strange. Terrance scratches his head in confusion. There seems to be a fading Aura of something, I don't know what
He then goes over to check the window to see if it is locked.
As well, I have no idea on how the blood got in here, but the blood is real, and I don't think it's Orins
Terrance Foehammer |
Looking puzzled I did not see blood on Orin's hands, and I see no way for someone to bring it in.
Anyone else got suggestions on who or what may have caused this.
This must have something to do with the monument, we must check that out later.
Ingrid Van der Geist |
"It would be a means for a ghostly spell caster to manifest on the physical plane. Many maintain their abilities with magic along with their hold to this realm." Ingrid says thoughtfully.
Terrance Foehammer |
But still, why would a ghost be spelling out Orin's name in blood. Would there not be any other people ?
Wouldn't the restless dead be trying to spell out their Terrance thinks for a second Killer's Name ??
Terrance Foehammer |
Hey, just throwing it out there, It might sound it, but hey, with something writing his name, and all good murder mysteries have the victim attempt to write the killers name. :)
Edit for spelling and It's not like I believe it though
Orin Gabor |
Orin stands still and looks at Terrance. "I'll have you know, good dwarf, I have never killed anyone except in my own defense." He glares at the dwarf. "We know the restless dead are bad, so perhaps this one was simply trying to get our attention? A horrifying way to do so, but more likely, I bet."
Terrance Foehammer |
Even though that last line was supposed to be in italics, my bad. Was tired, and posted to fast, and logged out, didn't precheck. guess I will from now on. :)
Looking a little abashed, Sorry Orin, one of the big mysteries that we have, is how the blood got into your room in the first place.
I will say that it did get our attention, did it not, and I have been puzzling over whether it is the same thing that has been vandalizing the monument.
Ravel Sigrún |
"So some ghostly visitor is plaguing dreams and spelling out omens in blood. I'm almost wary to ask it, but Gellius, do you think you could do more investigation on the blood? Or if anyone is able to tell if it is actual blood, magically concocted, or- and more importantly, if it comes from the living or the long dead." Ravel turns to Terrance, "If the message was written by a ghost, I do not believe they are troubled by things such as walls. And unless we all sleep deeper than I know we do, I doubt Orin has had time to kill anyone in this town. We need to get Father Grimburrow and arm ourselves for what threats are yet to come from beyond the grave."
Ravel puts her hand on Orin's shoulder for encouragement as she looks around the room at the others.
Terrance Foehammer |
Terrance comes down, pours a cup of coffee into a cup, and offers it as a peace offering to Orin, Please sit down, I have a number of questions
Orin, your exact nightmare. You say you were locked up, do you know where ? How about where you were when the blood showed up ?
Going through the full gamut of questions. Who, What, When, Why, How even though a lot of them will be unknown. plus asking feelings for the same. For when he was locked up, and also for the bloody name.
Gellius Dandrae |
Gellius shakes his head. "Ravel, I am not sure I can tell you more. I am not that good at identifying specific people's blood. It is something that I am working on though.
"But honestly, that's really creepy. We definitely need to head out the graveyard today."
Orin Gabor |
Orin looks to Terrance and shrugs. "I-I think it was a prison cell. I saw bars on the windows and what not. It was run down in any regard. And..." He thinks for a second and then gets wide-eyed. "It looked as if I was biewing the town from Harrowstone!"
Terrance Foehammer |
Well, with a portent like that, it means that we are going to have to go into Harrowstone.
However, we should look to the cashe first, and then look to that memorial to see if it also has another bloody letter on it.
Ravel Sigrún |
"Another letter? That doesn't make any sense. If Orin's portent was spelled out, why would there be anything more than the V we've already seen? When we have the Father with us, perhaps he can tell us more about the darker things that happen or have happened in this town."
Ioann Vilescu |
"You are right, why more? Why this statue and why Orin...turning toward the man Mister Orin, any reason why this spirit or whatever it was targeted you out of the others? Do you have any links with Harrowstone, did you do anything special yesterday that might have called the hatred of the undead?" Ioann says while finishing his porridge.
Sorry if it took a while for me to write again, I was hoping that Orin might answer Ioanns questions before I posted once more, but it seems that what I wrote was skimmed over somehow.
Also, Ioann is ready to leave with the others to look for the cache. And, what is the other topic of research we have? The name of the people that had recently being moved to the prison?
