Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

You and me both, Sefanit. Things have gone from bumpy to... much more so. I'll not be giving up on posting entirely, I've been GMing pbp for 20+ years and won't give up this easily. But I don't think I've got it in me to moderate until after the holidays. Sorry for the brief hiatus folks, but keep checking in and we'll pick things up again in January.

I totally understand West. I've done exactly the same thing with the campaign I'm running. We're restarting the 1st week of January.

Female NG Human Witch (Medium) 4 | HP: 36/36 | AC: 13 (T: 13, F: 10) | CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | F: +6, R: +5, W: +5 | Init: +7 | Perc: +5, SM: +2 | Speed 30'

I'm down and out with flu right now so it may be a couple of days before I post again. Please bot me as needed.

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

I'm sorry for the delay everyone, there's some light at the end of the proverbial tunnel though and I hope to get back to some semblance of regular posting in the next few weeks.

I'm not one that normally unloads my woes on people, but I'll go ahead and do it anyway. Basically my life is in chaos right now. My wife and I have separated after 25 years of marriage, I've been looking to get out of the hotel I'm in and into an apartment (just got one yesterday, so that's one obstacle down) and work is ugly with tax season in the early stages of making life miserable for me during the day. Because of the housing situation, I've taken up a second job driving for Uber, which is great because it's on my own schedule, but alas it's usually busiest during the hours when I like to post.

That said, I think I've about nailed down a schedule that will allow me time on the boards in the late afternoon, early evening hours now that I'm not feverishly looking for my own place. I'll probably start doing my driving after the rush hour crowd dies down a bit and go until late, which actually seems to be a fairly busy time period in my area.

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know where my head has been of late, and to reassure you that I'm still around and fully intend to get back into my usual posting schedule of a couple times a week when possible, especially when my players post quickly. It may take me a bit of time to get there, probably until April 15th, as a matter of fact! But over the next couple months I hope to start posting at least once a week or every 10 days at the very worst. That'd be a good start, considering my pace over the past few months...

Female NG Human Witch (Medium) 4 | HP: 36/36 | AC: 13 (T: 13, F: 10) | CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | F: +6, R: +5, W: +5 | Init: +7 | Perc: +5, SM: +2 | Speed 30'

I'm very sorry West, that's a lot of stuff to deal with all at once. I went through a similar time a few years back and it puts a heavy load on a person. I'm glad you've found an apartment, having a place of one's own really helps.

Don't worry about the game. Real life always has to come first. Take whatever time to need to get things sorted out and back on track. Worrying about getting posts up can become just another stressor you've adding. Wait until it will be fun rather than an obligation.

Take care, and we'll see you when you're ready.

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

OK folks, I'm settled into my new place and I'm feeling pretty good again - all things considered. I'm planning to start my new schedule of posting during the late afternoon in the coming week. I do hope you are all still around and watching this adventure thread. I'm very eager to start this adventure up again, along with the other three I'm running on the Paizo board.

Thanks again to all of you for your patience with an absent GM. Let's get this game rolling again! :)

Yaaaaay. I'm glad to hear your life has settled down finally.

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

Thanks Brolof! And I should have anticipated this week being busy for me as I finished furnishing my apartment as bits and pieces arrived from Amazon - I'm tired of assembling furniture! But fortunately I'm finishing that process up today. Unfortunately, this week has gotten away from me. Let's shoot for a fresh start next week. I'm going to do my very best to hold myself to this promise, folks!

Looking forward to playing with you, Farid. That's an interesting build combo. Also, I think we are both unconscious and possibly stuck in the the same pit together. So you have that to look forward to. :p

GM West, a question that will impact at least a few of us. How do you feel about Fractional Base Bonuses for we multi-classers? If you answered that question in the recruiting thread, I apologize for my reading-fu not being up to snuff.

LOL Yes it does.

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

I've seen the argument for fractional base bonuses before, and I'm just not a fan. Sorry about that.

Also, you two are indeed in the same pit, next to the one in which the priest has been sitting for awhile now. But you were both captured 'yesterday' in game terms, and long before the undead invasion on the streets of Wati.

GM West, just to satisfy my curiosity... how deep is the pit and how smooth are the walls (i.e. what's the DC) assuming we were conscious?

Will have Farid done tonight, RL been a beast lately

Female Halfling Unchained Rogue 3/Archaeologist Bard 1

You know, I've completely forgotten how much Luck Emilia still has at her disposal...

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

Ki'dhir, I'd call the DC to climb those walls free hand about a DC 15 plus or minus 0-3 (a d4), which I determine when the attempt is made so the player doesn't know the target DC until after the attempt is made.

If you'd like to get involved in the melee, we can say that you have just roused into consciousness and I'll give you a chance to escape your bonds if you'd like. However, you have no weapons nor equipment with which to cast your spells.

Shadow, no problem at all!

Emilia, feel free to retro your luck if you'd like. I have no problem with that!

HP:80 | AC:20 ; T:14 ; FF:17 ; CMD:28 | Fort:+9 ; Ref:+10 ; Will:+6 | Init:+3* ; PER:+14* | Low-light vision | * = +4 in deserts (Init +7), +2 underground (Init +5)

So - no gear, no spell components, stuck at the bottom of a well, probably trussed like a turkey, and possibly down on HP... what's not to love? :D

Put me in the game, coach! We'll see if I can make myself a nuisance to the baddies. I'd rather knock myself unconscious falling back into the pit than sit out a good fight.

FWIW - I like it when the odds are stacked against me. Besides, like Emilia, I have to create my legend! ;)

HP:80 | AC:20 ; T:14 ; FF:17 ; CMD:28 | Fort:+9 ; Ref:+10 ; Will:+6 | Init:+3* ; PER:+14* | Low-light vision | * = +4 in deserts (Init +7), +2 underground (Init +5)

I've got one question on the equipment I have with me in the well. Did the baddies take my sash along with all the obviously useful gear? It is his one colorful bit of clothing with some value (red fabric and has a red gold clasp) so it's possibly worth their taking from a mundane point of view. It would also detect as magic if they checked for that.

Shadow's Status

Ugh, was out with my daughter later than I thought I would be. No kid tonight so getting to that tonight should be possible.

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

Alas, they DO have access to Detect Magic, so they wouldn't have let you keep the sash - sorry about that Ki'dhir. Would definitely love to see you get involved in the combat, so feel free to make that roll to free yourself of your bonds. It'll take a full round to do, and I'll make the DC fairly easy since they really didn't think you'd be able to do much down in the hole without any equipment.

Enjoy your time with your daughter Shadow, no rush at all! By the way, you can free yourself too, if you'd like. We'll say that Ki'dhir woke up first, then kicked you awake as he tries to free himself from his bonds.

GM West wrote:

No worries! I figured the likelihood I'd have it was pretty small based on the 'eye candy' factor alone. I just like to know what all my assets are before going into a fight.

Now, let's see if I can make them rue the fact they dumped me down the well before the rest of the team mops the floor with them.

If you get free and yell I'll take over the rope so Hasina can start crushing the enemy. And if you climb up I probably have some gear that you could use to join the battle. Caster or fighter? Never mind. Keep that IC....

Francis - thanks for the offer, I appreciate it! I should be pretty combat effective once I'm out of the well.

FYI - I believe we are in a different well from the guy you came to rescue.

By the way, both Ki'dhir and Farid were able to free themselves from their bonds (the DC was only 10). However, that took up their entire round's worth of actions.

Initially, I was tempted to post "Why didn't you list my sash among our assets?" But if you didn't know the movie reference, that could sound b!+~+y as hell. :D

Ah wait a Princess Bride quote, I've seen that but did not remember the reference :-)

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

Ha! Yep, that's why I referenced the quote. I keep running across young 'uns that haven't ever seen that movie to recognize it. Definitely worth watching! Yes, the special effects are kinda corny and dated (the ROUSs in particular!), but the story and the characters are just amazing.

ROUSes... I don’t think they exist.

Finished the Background for Raz but just out of time on Farid. I will try to get to him tomorrow. Now that I found an apartment no more search time on that and I can get my workload under control once more freeing up more time to post in the evenings...

I'm going camping this weekend and prepping for the trip tonight. Don't think I'll have time to post until Sunday. Maybe. If not, early next week for sure!

How many HP do we start with?

Farid is almost re-made, just need to pick out magic items and convert the build into my Avatar.

Roll for HP here and if the result is less than half (on each die), take half instead. Also, you have 6000 gp to spend.

HP:80 | AC:20 ; T:14 ; FF:17 ; CMD:28 | Fort:+9 ; Ref:+10 ; Will:+6 | Init:+3* ; PER:+14* | Low-light vision | * = +4 in deserts (Init +7), +2 underground (Init +5)

West, how deep is the pit, i.e. how many climb checks/Moves do we need to make?

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)
Ki'dhir wrote:

The pit is 30' deep, and I think that you currently have a rope (unknotted) to climb, which Francis is holding. At first I thought he was holding it over Ptenimb, but after reading his post again I believe he has lowered the rope for Ki'dhir and Farid to climb.

Storyteller Shadow wrote:

Ki'dhir is correct, feel free to roll the dice and if you wind up with less than half on your roll, take half as your minimum instead.

Go ahead and use the WBL chart to figure how much gold you have to spend - so 6,000gp looks correct for a 4th level character.

HP:80 | AC:20 ; T:14 ; FF:17 ; CMD:28 | Fort:+9 ; Ref:+10 ; Will:+6 | Init:+3* ; PER:+14* | Low-light vision | * = +4 in deserts (Init +7), +2 underground (Init +5)

Ah, OK. So then Francis should be 5' right of his current position on the map? I'm assuming we are in that pit to the right of the one Francis is standing on.

Also, since we have a rope, I'll let Farid go up first since he can double-move up the rope and I'm spending an action casting a spell. I don't want to impede his climb.

Channel Energy 4d6: 0 of 7 used Init: +1 | AC: 19 / FF AC: 18 / Touch AC: 11 | Fort: +5 / Ref: +3 / Will: +8 | Speed: 20' | Favored Attack: MW Dagger +6 melee / 1d4+2 piercing damage / 19-20 [x2] crit | Spell Save DC: 0 Level - 14; 1st Level - 15; 2nd Level - 16

The pit doesn't look all that large. I figured the rope would be within reach of whoever reached for it. From the text I didn't think Ptenimb was in good shape for climbing. ?? He was laying down, "recumbent in an awkward position" when I was climbing down to try and rescue him.

HP:80 | AC:20 ; T:14 ; FF:17 ; CMD:28 | Fort:+9 ; Ref:+10 ; Will:+6 | Init:+3* ; PER:+14* | Low-light vision | * = +4 in deserts (Init +7), +2 underground (Init +5)

I'm OK with however West wants to play it. He said we were in the pit 'near' or 'next to' Ptenimb's pit. On the map scale, it looks like each pit is maybe 5' in diameter and there is a 5' gap between the pits. So, for you to see which pit we're in and drop a rope easily, I figured you'd have to be standing next to our pit. If you've got a MOVE action left, you could certainly swing around to the south side of our pit and drop the rope there which keeps you out of combat and leaves a lane free for our melee teammates to do their thing.

I apologize if I'm being too literal and map-focused and you guys play more 'theatre of the mind'. I tend to play highly tactical - particularly for casters - as positioning presents all sorts of interesting challenges and opportunities.

You'll fit in well then, because I'm BIG on the tactical stuff myself! Indeed, the PCs are all clustered around the pit in which Ki'dhir and Farid are in. However, Francis is going to have to spend his entire round holding the rope for the two of you to climb. That said, Francis can roll a STR check vs DC 10 to grant you an additional +2 bonus to your Climb checks (and if he has a positive STR modifier, that can be added as well).
