From the location of the last combat to the lake shore is roughly a mile. Even at a brisk walking speed that leaves you less than 10 minutes left.

You see what appears to be a fleshy looking "branch" sticking out of the water, and it is covered in eyes. The water around the stalk begins to churn and a huge creature breaks the surface of the water and takes flight.
