Round Ten

Anga takes a breather and lets the fighters mop up.

Kaos chases after the fleeing Hill Giants. As he gains on the Hill Giants he taunts them.

Leira sees Kaos chase after the other giants, and moves toward the large room. She tries to fire an arrow but was unable to set her feet to get off an accurate shot.

Leira would not have been able to move and attack in this round. But she could run behind Kaos to get closer. Your shot would have missed anyway.

Ragnir moves as far as he can toward the larger room.

Droja also follows in pursuit. Her lumbering Zombie Hill Giant follows Droja.

Ulfgard hesitate to allow Haskyll to provide a bit of healing.

After giving Ulfgard some healing Haskyll moves toward the cowering female Ogre.

The drunk Hill Giant doesn't know the Common Tongue. But it knows taunting no matter what language. He turns, moves, and attacks Kaos with a double handed swing of his greatclub.

Drunk Hill Giant with greatclub + PA two-hands: 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 16 - 2 = 322d8 + 13 + 6 ⇒ (7, 2) + 13 + 6 = 28

The sixth Hill Giant does the same, though moving a bit more gingerly. He was just close enough to get in an attack as well.

Hill Giant 6 with greatclub + PA: 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 16 - 2 = 292d8 + 13 + 6 ⇒ (7, 6) + 13 + 6 = 32

Both giants were able to pound on Kaos.

Kaos takes 60 points of damage. When they hit, they hit hard.

The cowering female Ogre starts to sob pathetically. She continues to plea with Ferin.

Seeing Haskyll approach, Ferin will look at the Ogress, "Your fate is in the hands of others. But if you swear to me to serve the forge, I will see what can be done."

The Ogress swears.

Round Eleven...at least some of it

With the Hill Giants turning onto the Dragon Disciple, Kaos uses Gorum's Thorn to cut into the sixth Hill Giant. It was just enough to do significant damage. The Dragon Disciple bites into Hill Giant flesh. It was a bit salty, but better than he expected.

Leira tries a bow shot, but she missed her aim.

Ragnir moves up some and moves Torag's Spiritual Hammer up some as well.

Droja moves up and tries once more to hold the drunken Hill Giant. The will of the drunken Hill Giant has been reduced, it is held in place.

Drunken Hill Giant Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Ulfgard moves up and attacks the sixth Hill Giant. He barely manages to strike the large humanoid with Agrimmosh. But it was enough to kill the sixth Hill Giant.

"Hand me that... I think I saw one of this at my moms shop once..." Leira smiles to Kaos while she picks up the magical item.

The young girl nods at Ragnir visibly emotional "It will be hard to forget the time we past together... It was a great adventure and you were always a fellow companion open to give a hand..." Leira moves over the dwarf and gives a strong hug while she tries to hide the tears coming to her eyes "But I do understand... our paths split here. I hope we can see each other at a more peaceful time"

Trying to recap a bit, Leira looks at the others "So... the trace leads us now to Skirgaard... I propose we try to give a hug to those other giants too. What do you think boys?"

Leira will determine that it is a Pearl of Power, for third level spells.

GM Note: The CL of the Pearl of Power shows CL17. That would be fine if it was a 9th Level Spell, but I believe a Pearl of Power with a third level spell would be CL 5, so a 15 + 5, or a 20, is needed to identify this particular Pearl of Power. Leira identifies it. Always nice to be able to carry an extra third level spell around.

There are still tribes of giants in the valley. They have not all yet dispersed.

"We could go all out Orc on this place. We could strip these dead giants and stake them to the approaches to the Cathedral with plenty of warning signs in giant that this will be their fate if they enter the Cathedral's compound," Droja says this in a matter-of-fact tone.

Ferin will overhear Droja, "The Stone Giants may be swayed to help. If I can get them to assist in cleaning this place up, then we do not need to desecrate the Cathedral. However, we would need to light the forge to get the Stone Giants something to give them a since of purpose."

Here are a few opposing ideas as to what to do next. Does the party have any ideas? There are benefits to the party to be able to resize giant-sized magic weapons and armor.

Ragnir could take the broom and the survivors back to their village then onward to Janderhoff. Or Anga can try out her new spell.

We should probably finish searching the cathedral and the area around before we bring more giants here.

In the butcher's tent marked Z1 on the Cathedral of Minderhal map:

The earth around the huge, patchwork animal-hide tent is stained nearly black with blood. A bloodstained table fashioned from a thick wooden block supported by sturdy iron legs stands in the center of the longhouse. Wooden buckets filled with blood and offal surround the table. Along the edges of the tent run lengths of iron bar set atop large wooden posts driven into the ground. From the bars hang the butchered carcasses of cows, horses, mastodons, and even humans. Some of the meat is fresh, and some of it is not.

In the other large tent marked Z2:

A huge, horseshoe-shaped table laid with curious metal tools, pincers, prongs, and other strange items sits in the center of this tent. Glass bottles and jars filled with milky fluid, each containing a bloated and waterlogged eyeball, balance upon haphazardly arranged wooden shelves. A sizable collection of birds, including crows, hawks, and owls, hang lifelessly from the tent’s roof, strung upside down by their feet. There are various vials scattered about. Kaos will notice that many of the vial's contents radiate magic. Fifteen vials to be precise.

What do you do?

Leira the cycle of hate must stop somewhere. I'm not saying that those that harmed your people should go unpunished. But we cannot judge all Giants by the acts of only a few just as they cannot judge all Humans by the acts of only a few. Ferin right most stone giants are on the whole peaceful and probably should deserve a chance. But I will promise you that we will find those that are responsible for the hurt brought to your people and we will not rest until they lie at our feet.

1 Fail 2 Pass: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Kaos was able to recognize the next vial was the same as the first vial. It was a poison. Kaos did not test this vial further.

Kaos' fourth roll of a 16 was enough to recognize this was another vial of poison.

GM Screen:
1 Fail 2 Pass: 1d2 ⇒ 1

And yet another vial of poison was found, but once again Kaos was able
to determine this before before consuming.

This was Kaos' fifth roll of a 26.

GM Screen:
1 Fail 2 Pass: 1d2 ⇒ 1

A fourth vial of poison was found amongst the elixirs. Kaos was able to avoid this one as well.

Kaos' sixth roll of a 25.

GM Screen:
1 Fail 2 Pass: 1d2 ⇒ 2

Kaos was able to determine that the next vial was an Elixir of Love.

Kaos' seventh roll of a 25.

GM Screen:
1 Fail 2 Pass: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Kaos found yet another vial of poison. This was the fifth vial from the lot.

It was also the last vial of poison from the lot. The GM Screens were to determine if the vial was a poison or a potion. 50% chance. Five of the vials were poisons. A failed identify meant you consumed the poison and needed to roll. Kaos only failed his first roll.

Unfortunately, the ill affects of the poison continues to make Kaos sick.

Kaos needs to make another DC15 Fort Save.

At least all the poison vials have been identified. I will continue on with the rest of the identifying with Leira's rolls.

Leira identifies the next three vials she test.

Rolls 17,22,22

Elixir of Vision

Oil of Flame Arrow

Potion of Barkskin

Leira (12) will not identify the next vial. Kaos (10) would not be able to identify this one as well.

Leira does get the next two. (25 and 28)

Potion of Pass Without Trace

Potion of Protection from Energy (Cold)

As Kaos and Leira searches through the vials, they will notice a lime green pill that also radiates magic. Kaos (26), unless he dies, will identify this lime green pill as a Volatile Vaporizer. (2nd Level)

So Kaos, don't die. You do need two consecutive Fort saves to overcome this poison.

Also as a reminder, there is still one vial unidentified.

About the discussion on relighting the Forge the girl drops her arguments seeing she is alone against the giants "Ok. We will do it your way... It is going to take more than words for me to trust on those giants though..."

"I can make good use of the elxir of vision, the oil of flame arrow and the potion of pass without trace" says Leira while she picks up the potions if no one else is interested.

She also checks the last vial.

"Ok. So what do we need to do to relight the damned Forge?"

Ferin will look at Leira, "Understood."

Then when asked about relighting the Forge, Ferin will repeat what she has heard from Etena for many years:

“According to the sacred texts, four ancient heroes first brought Minderhal’s Forge to life. The first was Mymrith the Maker, priestess of Fandarra, who prepared fallen warriors for the afterlife by anointing their bodies with sacred clay. She lined the forge with the clay to contain the fire within."

“The second was Aduromi, the Priestess of Crystals, whose veins ran hot with molten metal and who could temper steel to a hardness that would cut diamonds. She brought with her the secrets of the fire geodes, which once ignited would burn for a century."

“The third was Jogrothir the Hunter, guardian of the sacred horn Drakesbane, which he used to call the ancient drakes native to the surrounding peaks. Jogrothir brought the forge to life, for he alone was able to capture the dragon’s breath, the only flame hot enough to ignite the fire geodes."

“The last was Rosag, the Preserver of the Forge. A great priestess of Minderhal, Rosag held the secrets of water both its ability to temper metal as well as its capacity to quench the sacred flames. She performed the Blessing of Rosag, the final incantation that stoked the fires and sanctified the forge."

“Only by following in the footsteps of the blessed ancients, by repeating those acts which have been undone, shall the fires of Minderhal’s Forge once again blossom.”

"With Agrimmosh there is no metal that cannot be worked, even metals that contain powerful magic. And in that, nowhere in the whole of Golarion is that possible but by the relighting of Minderhal's Forge and used in conjunction with the Hammer of Unmaking."

Ferin will look over at Ulfgard and the bloody Hammer of Unmaking. Then remind the party of the passage through the heart of the mountains that is said to aid in finding these locations within Minderhal's valley.

The party has one or two of the items needed already.

@Leira - Your previous roll missed this one potion. Kaos missed it too. But, you will be able to try again this next day, so I will go ahead and say you identified this last potion as a Potion of Bear's Endurance. There were some nice potions in this lot.

Haskyll grimaces as he hears the needed items.

Well, it looks like we have our work cut out for us.
Liera, I agree, it will take more than words, but let deeds stand for them.
If they don't attack us, we don't attack them, and that is my word both as the steelhand reborn, and as a follower of Torag.

And indeed Haskyll ID's the potion ahead of Leira as a Potion of Bear's Endurance.

That would be good for Haskyll. It would give him some added HPs should he need to get into a big fight up close.

Ferin will give the party the directions to the entrance to the cave. It is south of the Cathedral. There may still be giants in the valley area leading to this cave.

The party doesn't need to go right away. Plus there is some housekeeping. How is Ragnir and the Villagers returning home, broom or teleport? Also, there is a dead dragon outside and a mule that might need some attention.

There are some other rooms throughout the Cathedral that has not been thoroughly searched. Does the party search out these rooms? You have taken out the inhabitants, so there is no fight involved.

Droja will makes a request of Haskyll, "Do you have the ability to give Mr. Stinky here..." Droja points to the Zombie Hill Giant, "...something to keep it a bit fresher."

I allow Gentle Repose to be used on Zombies so that they aren't quite as offensive in the company of a party. There was a Robe of Gentle Repose back in 3.5. I am not sure if this exist in the Pathfinder world. So treat this a not a RAW, but a Home Brew exception.

"Ok, let's try to make some order in here!" Leira rolls up her sleeves and starts ordering all the magical items found in the table.

"I will go an bring the mule while you finish sorting the items we already have to relight the Forge" the girl will sneak through the Cathedral outdoors, and use vanish and dimensional slide if needed to avoid some enemies.

The side of the Cathedral where the party left the mule was avoided by the giants except when they needed to clean out the latrine. The mule seems a bit skittish. The dead dragon lies not far from the mule. But Leira has no problem retrieving the mule.

Anyone else go with Leira to search the Cathedral?

Droja will join the party commanding her Zombie Hill Giant, Mr. Stinky, to remain in the Groghall.

As the party searches the barracks (Z13) they find that a few of the giants have left behind some of their possessions inside three large leather sacks. The first holds three throwing rocks, an iron spike, two torches, a large waterskin filled with oil (equivalent to 16 flasks), and a patchwork blanket the size of a tent. The second bag contains a vial, a medium-sized adamantine battleaxe, two Large axe handles, a surprisingly large number of different-sized pine cones, and a small leather belt with a pouch containing 172 gp and 1,348 sp. The third sack smells horrid when opened. It holds a suit of mountain pattern armor, a masterwork set of nunchaku, a small lump of electrum (worth 324 gp), a bag of dirty giant teeth, and four dead turkey vultures. (Snack...maybe.)

What does the party do next? Do you rest before venturing toward the Dark Passage, the caves and tunnels that runs through the mountains south of the Cathedral. Etena and Ferin said there may be clues as to the whereabouts of the other items needed to relight the forge. Also, do you know what items you have already found or located?

Droja will cast Detect Magic. The Mountain-Pattern Armor indeed radiates magic, as does the iron spike and the contents of the vial.

She then looks at Ulfgard, "Its a lot prettier than that hammer you wield." Indeed Agrimmosh looks like a common Blacksmith's hammer, and the Adamantine Battleaxe is a sweet looking weapon. But.....
