About mid-morning the party, healed and rested, heads further into Minderhal's Valley. After about five hours of slugging downward through snow along the slowly freezing Minderhal River, the party sees a wider forested valley in front of them. From the widening canyon, tributaries from the east and southeast can be seen cascading through other even higher canyons toward the wider Minderhal River. The Minderhal River, itself, bends toward the south.

The shouts of a raucous argument echo from somewhere up the path ahead. The voices are deep and guttural.

Giant:
Anyone able to speak Giant can understand the shouts, which consist of curses, insults, and threats hurled in heated argument. They seem to be upset about not being selected for the Storm Tyrant's army.

The path splits to the left and right. The sound appears to be coming from beyond a stand of trees near the rivers edge. The party cannot, at present, see who is arguing.

New map is up. Also, the Minderhal Valley map has been updated to show the party's progress. This encounter is labeled "D." The party has surprise. What does the party do?

Well, folk, we can only carry so much, but I think I got a bit of a surprise in for our poor mule.

This still don't mean that we can take everything from the drake pile.

I found a link to a website that has a picture from the AP of what Droja actually looks like. She is quite the looker. Giantslayer Campaign with an image of Droja further down.. Just scroll down for the image of Droja. I wish Paizo had a token with what Droja actually looks like.
I think her appearance is intense.

The invisibility sphere would help us close on them. But let's go. Kaos will wait for Leira to cast the spell if she is going to then either way he starts to sneak up on the monsters.

Haskyll ties off the mule to a nearby tree. Then Leira cast Invisibility Sphere. And with Leira in the center, the party advances toward the sound of the argument. The giants were too busy fighting and arguing to notice the invisible approaching party, even though you are making considerable tracks in the snow.

I have placed the party at a point where you can see the giants with Leira in the middle. You have a Surprise Round. Then everyone except Ragnir and Droja can also take their Round One actions. @Ragnir-Please go ahead with your actions including Round One too, so I will be able to quickly recap the actions.

Leira cast the invisibility sphere on to Droja and the party advances toward the giants.

Having never been invisible before Droja comments, "Hmmm. That may be an improvement."

Surprise Round

Leira fires and arrow at the flat-footed Giant. But her the giant moved just enough for her shot to fly harmlessly past the unsuspecting giant.

Their natural AC is very high. So even flat-footed these things have a decent AC.

Anga seeing four very large humanoids, cast a Shield on herself.

Ulfgard charges the fourth and nearest giant striking a powerful blow with Agrimmosh.

Kaos coming out of invisibility, turns into a dragon-kin, and makes an acrobatic move to get close to the fourth or nearest giant.

Haskyll does as we all should, and says a Prayer before getting into things.

Ragnir cast a Communal Protection Against Evil on the party.

This provides a +2 Deflection Bonus to AC and a +2 Resistance Bonus versus these creatures. If you character already has a Deflection Bonus it will not apply. Please let me know if you have a Deflection Bonus or not. Gracias.

Droja stays invisible while she weaves a spell.

Round One

Leira's second shot strikes true as the arrow lodges deep into the giants chest.

Anga places a fireball that takes in all the giants.

The fourth giant falls over dead. The other giants take the full brunt of the Fireball.

Ulfgard moves on to the next flat-footed giant. He pounds this third giant with Agrimmosh to near death.

Kaos moves up next to Ulfgard, and in his dragon form pours fire out of his mouth.

(With the fourth giant dead, I shifted Ulfgard and Kaos to the third giant. DC17 Reflex Save versus Kaos' Dragon Breath.

Giant 2 Reflex Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Giant 3 Reflex Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Giant 4 Reflex Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11

The third giant fall over unconscious.

These giants are not particularly powerful. No one could have guessed that two would already have fallen by this point. I have had to improvise with actions.

Now with both the third and fourth giants fallen, Haskyll casts Bull Strength on himself.

With the sudden appearance of the party, the remaining two giants, after being hit by first a Fireball, and then the fiery breath from a dragon looking humanoid, simply run.

Arrows show begin and end of the runs.

Ragnir sees the last two giants run.

@Ragnir - You can take a different Round One action.

Droja brings forth a Celestial Dire Bat that appears and chases after the last giant fleeing. It catches the second giant, but fails to deliver a bite against the big brute.

Ulfgard has not posted, but since the only thing he can do is move, I will move Ulfgard, and move on.

Round Two

The first giant moved out of sight of the Rogue Arcanist. But Leira gave chase enough to get a shot off against the second giant. Her shot whistles through the limbs on the trees. It successfully sticks into the second giant.

Anga follows Leira and sends a couple of Scorching Rays at the fleeing second giant. The first ray drops the second giant. The second one kills it. Singed pine needles along the rays path continues to smoke.

I gave Anga a little line of sight through the edge of the tree line.

Ulfgard, Kaos, Haskyll, and Ragnir all run back toward the mule as fast as the snow covered ground will allow.

The last frightened giant continues to run. It looks back seeing the second giant fall. Being the last of the four giants, it is now in full panic mode.

Droja moves to a position to cheer on her Celestial Dire Bat. She comes up with a name for the bat, "Go Fangs! Go!" Now all she needs is pom poms. That would be quite the sight.

There is a miniature of an Orc Cheerleader. This miniature is fundamentally wrong in many ways.

Celestial Dire Bat Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

The bat does nothing more than harass the first giant.

Round Three

Leira moves toward the first giant from behind.

That is about all Leira could do in the Round, so I went ahead with the actions.

Anga follows in pursuit.

Ulfgard, Kaos, Haskyll, and Ragnir keep moving to cut off the fleeing giant, this time shorting the distance through the trees.

@Ulfgrard - I show a 20' movement rate for Ulfgard. This is difficult terrain. I gave the Dwarves 6 squares of full round movement. Ulfgard did not cast Longstrider. BTW-I did not see this in your stats. But then again, I could have missed it.

With a loud whimpering sound, the first giant continues to move as fast as it can dropping its over-sized club. It stops as Kaos emerges from the woods.

Droja's Dire Bat continues to chase the fleeing giant. It delivers a wicked bite to the back of the giant's neck. The giant's scream sounds like a little human girl.

Celestial Dire Bat Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 231d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
