Droja is sleeping near the warm fire. Leira will be up in her Rope Trick. Ragnir and Ulfgard can chose whether to be near the fire or up in the Rope Trick as a start. Map updated. I don't know if you did anything with the dead bodies.

Early in the dark of the night of the third watch, Droja tosses in a fitful sleep as the ghostly creature hovers over the Half-Orc Oracle.

The mule begins to become agitated from its tethers and tries to break free and flee.

Kaos sees it, but does not know what it is. Kaos shivers at the sight.

The ghostly form briefly looks up at Haskyll and Kaos.

Haskyll recognizes the ghostly creature as being a Dwarf apparition, an undead one, likely a Spectre. It is currently draining the sleeping Droja.

The entity howls at Kaos' attacks. It turns on the human with a fierce determination to make Kaos one like it.

Kaos will only take 1 point of damage. But he will also lose two levels through Energy Drain. Essentially, you lose 10 more HPs, -2 on attacks, and are two levels lower.

Droja awakes feeling drained. She then notices the entity battling Kaos. She tries to crawl away making sounds of desperation, "Ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh."


"I was not finished with you," the entity swipes at Droja as she tries to crawl away.

Initial Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Droja started with 71HPs, lost 15 points and 2 levels with the initial attack 56HPs, and another 16 points and 2 levels with the AoO. This puts Droja at 40HPs and 4 levels.

Round One

Leira wakes up and grabs her bow. When you looks through the portal of the Rope Trick she sees Kaos distorted through the near invisible form of a Spectre.

Anga recognized that the party is back in a fight again. She brings up Mage Armor.

Kaos saw something hovering over Droja. He doesn't know what it is. He doesn't care. He takes Gorum's Thorn and slices into the entity. The magic blade hurts the apparition.

The ghostly crazed Dwarf turns and attacks the big human. It touches Kaos sapping power from the Dragon Disciple. The entity becomes stronger.

Haskyll calls for a Light to illuminate the area around the entity.

Ragnir awakens, grabs his frosty mace, and rises.

Droja also wakens. Having been drained by the Specter, all she thinks about is to move away from the apparition. As she does, the Specter swipes at the Half-Orc Oracle. It drains even more life away from Droja.

Ufgard wakes up with a start. He rises while grabbing Agrimmosh.

Round Two Start

Leira, seeing the party's desperate situation with an entity no one wants to in truth encounter, cast a spell to quicken the party's actions.

Anga know what works best on a spook, she fires a mighty bolt of pure force at the Spectre. Vulnerable to such attacks, the entity takes the full brunt of damage from the Magic Missile.

Though moving at a quicker pace, Kaos was only able to strike twice with Gorum's Thorn. The entity continues to exist.

Realizing its own existence is about to come to an end the Specter hovers up and over the embers of the now dying fire. It calls out in a ghostly whisper in the Dwarven tongue.

Dwarven:
"I am Begrundi Stonehold. I have preyed on those that venture near these waters for several lifetimes. I was betrayed by the greed of my own kin. They too now venture like I, though some have been destroyed." It senses that its time is near an end. It hovers at about an even level with Anga standing on the rock. Its ghostly gaze turns toward the Dwarf Wizard "In another age, we could have been friends. Your magic is powerful. I did not expect this. I will go back to under the waterfall."

The Specter only has temporary hit points left. It will soon be destroyed. What does the party do?

By the way, the Diamond Dust is only needed if you are casting Restoration to remove Permanent Negative Levels. These Negative Levels from a Specter are temporary for the first 24 hours after they have been bestowed.

I sent them away and watched with glee as many of them were destroyed to nothingness. I would welcome Torag's grace. But alas I do not deserve it."

The apparition floats toward the waterfall and disappears through it.

If you decide to follow the Specter through the waterfall:
The area behind the waterfall is too small to be a cave. The apparition hovers over its skeletal remains. Most of its possessions have long rotted away, except a golden bracer on each boney arm. Only the rusty head of an iron pick remains. There are several loose gems scattered around the remains. They are all garnets valued 4 x 25gp, 2 x 50gp, and a single 100gp large raw garnet.

The Specter fades away without a sound.

It is a couple of hours before dawn.

I'm sure we will fallow the specter because we are heroes aka unbalanced. Kaos will bring up shield spell just in case. Then will carefully go under the waterfall watching his step carefully while looking around. perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

In that case, I can at least help Djora out a lot.

After the burial, Haskyll takes 15 minutes and quickly prepares a spell, along with pulling a scroll out.
He will then expend the scroll and the spell on Djora.

In about an hour, I will be able to help both you and Kaos out a bit more

As I keep 1 empty spell slot for reasons like this, I will spend 15 minutes to prepare lesser restoration in the empty slot.
This along with my scroll will remove 2 of the negative levels from Djora.
When it comes time to prepare spells normally for the day I will prepare 2 lesser restorations in my normal routine, and use 1 each on Djora and Kaos, which means that they will be 1 effective level short. until the morning.


I don't believe Lesser Restoration restores Negative Levels. You need a full Restoration for Negative Levels. Read Restoration spell for greater clarity.

Damn, I keep getting the two mixed up. In that case, I am not using those, but I can do the restoration twice.
That is if you are willing to call some of the party cash is diamond dust ? will need 200 gp worth.


Yeah! I think that would make sense. I doubt that a Cleric would have left Janderhoff without the necessary ingredients to handle most any event. I always see this as cash drain to restore a level drain, so this is OK.

Same procedure, use blank slot for Restoration (Level 4). As part of morning routine, I will prepare another restoration, and use it on Kaos. This means that I will not have a blank level 4 slot for today only. will do the same for tomorrow morning.

Edit, She will be down 3 levels today, tomorrow down 1 effective level (1 level fixed for resto, and 1 level fixed for rest).
Kaos should only be down the 1 level today, and the nights rest will fix that.

Again, as noted in the Discussion Thread, you only need one Restoration spell per affected PC. From the Core Rule Book: This spell functions like lesser restoration, except that it also dispels temporary negative levels or one permanent negative level. By my interpretation of the inadequately worded rule, this means "All" temporary negative levels. Though it would have been nice to add the word "all" in the rule for greater clarity. Also, you really don't want to get to the point where you need to make a Saving Throw. You must roll of Saving Throw for EACH negative level. Failed Saving Throws mean that the temporary negative levels become permanent. Not good!
