Ok, as per suggestions from prior games, just a few notes and housekeeping before we get started. Thank you for posting your player data. If everyone else could do so as well, I would appreciate it! I would have put that up last night, but Fridays are my 20hr day between work and class, so please excuse my laxness!
Second: Posting. I am in nursing school through the week, and work 16 hr days fri-sun. My posting through the week will mostly be in the afternoon/evening, after class. I will be most proliferative on the weekends, as most of my work is done on or near a computer and I am able to get on here pretty frequently. I will post a minimum of once a day, but mostly will be more than that.
Third: Combat. I will roll for initiative, and create a tracking block that will track conditions, dmg dealt, and turn order. This will be at the bottom of every one of my combat posts. If you are Highlighted, then you may post. It does not have to be in the exact order that your name is listed, just as long as you are going during that "block" of actions. Any saves, held actions, special dmg, etc should be rolled by the players. I try to keep it as close to a tabletop game as I can, barring the obvious limitations of PBP.
I do not expect this run to last overly long, despite the fact that it is labeled as a module. It is mostly dungeon crawl, but it really is not that long.
For those that have not played with me before, I am a relatively new Pathfinder GM. I still make mistakes, but am pretty good about owning my screw-ups and trying to learn from them. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. There will be a feedback form at the end, and I greatly appreciate any feedback that you are willing to give.
Lastly, HAVE FUN!! I will get the first posts up here shortly. Thank you for playing!
Edit: I was able to figure out how to sign up for GM IV thanks to some helpful posts in the Flaxseed, so this game will be reported as such and be eligible for boons.

Am I still on time?
Yep, all is well!

Heyya! Sorry I'm a bit late - my weekend access is a tad spotty.
Player: Stephan W. Pfuetze
Character: Nikolai Vancaskerkin
PFS#: 7275-5
Faction: The Exchange
Day Job: None.

GM DevilDoc |

Sorry about that, Niolai. I think when I was getting set up that I got mixed up and confused you and Turan because he wasn't on the signup list. Welcome! Your token is next to Fauxish.. and if you wish to retcon purchasing those knives, you may.

Sorry for my late post today.. was at the hospital last night with my son and slept in this morning.
Hope everything's okay.

It turned out ok.. my son got a hold of some cleaning supplies at his mothers house then went to watch TV and suck his thumb leading to mild chemical burns on his lips and mouth. We are very fortunate that it was not as bad as it could have been.

Thank you. Just for everyones knowledge (I had no knowledge of this at all) we learned that cleaning products are rated on scale between Gain to Tide. Even if it is ingested, most Gain products will only give the patient diarrhea. Tide on the other hand is major bad ju-ju. Thankfully, Lysol products are closer to the Gain end of the spectrum! Score one point for being poor and cheap, and a second for having poison control on speed dial! lol

I am going to go ahead and report this game so that it can be included with GD4. Boons are won on a roll of 1 or 20
Turan: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Nikolai: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Fauxish: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Xasay: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Isobel: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Wow! TWO winners! Turan and Isobel, please post or PM me your email addresses ASAP. I cannot report this until I have that.
Edit: Isobel, I need all of your reporting information as well please.

Sorry, I usually like to provide all this up front, but forgot!

GM DevilDoc |

Session is reported, so don't everyone just run off and no one is allowed to die in the bbeg fight.. got it? lol. Seriously though, this will be given GD4 credit, and to the two lucky souls that won a boon, you will receive a separate email from the organizers that will have a special chronicle for your character. Tally-Ho!! Once we decide what to do with the prisoner, there is not a whole lot left.

Just as a side note, I would like to thank you guys for helping me to obtain my first GM Star. I thought I was still a table away from it, but after reporting this game yesterday, it popped up! Anyways, Thanks for contributing, and I hope that I am living up to yalls expectations.

GM DevilDoc |

Update will have to wait until tomorrow. I am sorry, but I was travelling today, and next to nothing went as planned.

Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas holiday. If Christmas is not your thing, I wish you a very merry ______! (Yule, Kwanzaa, Festivus, etc) The point being that I wish all of you very happy memories and prosperous times!

And a Happy Life Day to you and everyone else (except those dang the Imperials) too!

GM DevilDoc |

I know that I have some pretty experience people in here and I am still a pretty fresh GM, so I have a question: How do you handle grappling in an area of Grease?

![]() |

It depends on how the spell was cast.
A grease spell covers a solid surface with a layer of slippery grease. Any creature in the area when the spell is cast must make a successful Reflex save or fall. A creature can walk within or through the area of grease at half normal speed with a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Failure means it can't move that round (and must then make a Reflex save or fall), while failure by 5 or more means it falls (see the Acrobatics skill for details). Creatures that do not move on their turn do not need to make this check and are not considered flat-footed.The spell can also be used to create a greasy coating on an item. Material objects not in use are always affected by this spell, while an object wielded or employed by a creature requires its bearer to make a Reflex saving throw to avoid the effect. If the initial saving throw fails, the creature immediately drops the item. A saving throw must be made in each round that the creature attempts to pick up or use the greased item. A creature wearing greased armor or clothing gains a +10 circumstance bonus on Escape Artist checks and combat maneuver checks made to escape a grapple, and to their CMD to avoid being grappled.
It depends on whether the spell was cast as an area or on an item. If it's cast on an area, then the grapple is more or less unaffected. Prone members of the grapple receive the prone condition, but I don't believe they'd lose the grappled condition.
If it's cast on an item, like Nikolai's clothes or armor, then he gets a +10 bonus to his CMD to avoid being grappled. It's a fairly useful defensive measure against grapple-focused creatures.
It looks like Isobel was trying to knock it prone, which it looks like she succeeded at doing. Which of the two rolls was the creature's combat maneuver roll? The first or the second? I assume the first, which would still beat my CMD, even after we take into account the prone penalty.

![]() |

Ooops...I should have posted here. I was intending to knock the croc prone, mainly because I forgot Nikolai was grappled.
But I agree with what Nikolai posted here.

GM DevilDoc |

That's the way that I read it to begin with, and so I continued with the attack.. then I reread it a couple of times, and couldn't find anything saying that grappling was not affected, so I rewrote the post. I think this is where your confusion came from, nicolai, I think you saw my post in between these times. It worked out in nicolai's favor this way.. I was reluctant to do that much damage to you and not be sure that it was legit. I am very thankful for Yalls input on this.. I am still learning.. and would rather ask questions when I am not sure. GGG: do you have any input?
-Posted with Wayfinder

GM DevilDoc |

Ahh. Looking back, I forgot to delete the bite damage roll when I changed his CMB roll to a reflex save, and in worrying that i was making a wrong ruling, things got all out of order on my post. Going with my ruling that grease does apply, you take no damage.. the damage roll should have been removed, and the croc is prone.
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

I agree with Nikolai's take given the situation and the actions taken.

GM DevilDoc |

Thank you for your input. Things will stand as-is.. and this will be a learning experience for me! The croc slipped while trying to roll, and lost the CMB. Nikolai takes no damage this round, but both are prone.
This is why I like recruiting from the Flaxseed.. I have not had an issue with any players picked up from there, and for the most part, everyone is pretty cool with the mistakes that I have made. That makes learning to GM so much better of an experience. BTW, I will be posting a feedback form.. your responses are anonymous.. but should you have any suggestions/tips/tricks/criticisms, feel free to voice them either here or on the sheet.

Turan Walks the Steppe |

I think not fully understanding the PF grappling rules is not considered a sin by 99% of PF players.
Is it Turan's turn also? He's not listed in the initiative order and that is what Erastil considers a true sin...

GM DevilDoc |

Facepalm.. yes. You are up to Turan. I'm sorry
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

It's fine, GM. We were all new once, and like Turan said, grappling is still weird. And that's given that it's easier than it was in 3.5!
I'll attack the croc now...hopefully I'll actually hit it!

![]() |

Yes, thanks so much! You do a great job...I like your pacing and enthusiasm for the work!
Chronicle looks great!
Great group. I'd love to join up with any of you again. Nikolai, thanks for being kind to animals and not making me cry. ;p
