Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Like a reply to Rommin's question, the darkness is suddenly filled with the war-shrieks of a mite horde! The dancing light globes show two large furry spiders crouched among the little blue guys.

So Lawson and Amadia both rolled nat 20 and have the same init bonus. I think house rules say that Amadia and Lawson have to thumb wrestle for this one. In the virtual world, we'll just go with whoever posts first...

No one is surprised and the first round is a full round. Everyone is still flat-footed until they act, per normal rules.

Init:
Amadia|Lawson, mites, spiders, Rommin, Hema, Valai

Female Elf Follower Alias

I think Lawson can go first and get his sneak attack on. I'll check to see who he deletes first before unleashing a ranged attack.

Lawson quickly darts to Y5, X6 and swings at the spider. Though his haste causes his blow to go wide.

Shortsword Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

I'm going to move us along by interpreting Amadia's last instruction as practically as possible. She advances to (7,4) and makes a bomb attack v the mite in square (4,7). This hits (10 + 5 - 4 cover) = 11 v flat-footed mite dealing 7 hp (2 + 5) and the minimum (splash damage) of 6 hp to the mite in (3,8) and the spider in (5,6).

Amadia slips around the oblivious soldier and lobs one of her incendiary surprises into the crowd of gathered enemies. The now familiar crack and whoosh of the elf's bomb igniting is followed by the tiny screams of your burning enemies. Both of the mites caught in the blast are quickly immolated in flames. The spider's also scorched but still able to participate in the melee.

Three of the evil little monsters charge forward into the light and scream their bug eyes out. Lawson, Amadia & Rommin please make a Will Save.

Another of the mites grabs ahold of the furry spider next to it and swings up onto its back. Together they scuttle toward the fray.

One of the mites attacks Lawson, and another advances on Amadia but neither draw blood with their blunt little pokers. The nearest spider attacks Lawson but misses.

Init:
Lawson, Amadia, mites, spiders, Rommin, Hema, Valai

Rommin lurches into action when Lawson advances on the mites. He steps in the opposite direction, trying to keep any from getting around him.

Five foot step to 4-8, attack the one in 5-9.

To hit 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 - 1 = 6
Damage 2d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (6, 2) + 4 + 3 = 15

F Human (Vudrani) Cleric 2

Hema draws her scimitar and steps into battle. "Excuse me," she says to Amadia on her way by, "Off to work, then!"

Hema moves to spot (7,5) which provokes an attack of opportunity, but I just had my Trifexis, so I should be good.

scimitar attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

It won't matter to Rommin's last attack, but Lawson, Amadia and Rommin owe Will saves.

Yes, moving through (7,4) provokes an AoO.

Though she's scratched for the effort 1 hp damage Hema lands a killing blow on one of the monsters.

Valai walks forward, the very picture of cool and poise -- draws her sword and points it at the enemy currently engaging Rommin. "Oxydyne," she says in a commanding voice, and a splash of acid goes flying at the Mite's face!

Valai moves to 3'7. I can't set off my Burning Hands with everyone in the way, so... Acid splash. ^^; Ranged touch attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 for 1d3 ⇒ 1 damage to the Mite on the right.

Hey everyone! Sorry about that! I was kidnapped for my bachelor party this weekend. Survived and am back!

Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Focusing past the strange magics and seeing Hema strike down one of the mites Lawson strikes out at the closest mite with both blades.

Now that I think of it, I'm not sure from the context if the mite next to Hema and me is the one we squished or if it was another one. If it is dead already. Lawson will attack the spider.

Amadia hurls yet another bomb at the creepy mites, Attacking Mite #3 attempting to burn it out of existence.

Bomb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Sorry Rommin. The whole party's been cursed with 2s suddenly.

I rolled the d8 miss die and came up with 3, corresponding to the square marked on the map. The bomb splashes to all the red shaded squares.

Amadia's bomb throw misses to the left, shattering in the corner of the room and rebounding on Rommin and his mounted adversary. The mite burns to death clutching the spider's back. The spider screeches in displeasure and presses its attack against the scorched warrior. The spider bites Rommin. Rommin is dealt 6 hp of fire damage, 3 hp normal damage from the spider bite, and must make a fortitude save v poison DC 14 or take d2 Str damage. I have Rommin at 15 hp.

The other mites in the room press the attack in desperation. One of them lands a blow on Hema 3 hp. The remaining spider bites Lawson 1 hp, and must make a fortitude save v poison DC 14 or take d2 Str damage.

As the fight in the room rages the party is taken by surprise from the rear by another group of angry smurfs. This group is led by a 'big' one with a very odd and unwieldy crown fixed to its head by strings tied around its ears and nose. It's nasally voice prattles on in an alien tongue as it waddles down the stairs. An illustration of this character is here.

Undercommon:
Big guests! Sting them, pretties! Tear them!

The new mites are unable to attack this turn - they have to use their full turn to negotiate the stairs and get to the positions noted on the map.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Ugh: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Fort save vs. spider's poison 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Rommin exhales hard when he's engulfed in flames, and the distraction he doesn't see the spider lunge forward and plunge its fangs into him. As the spider pulls back, Rommin looks down at his wound and quietly mutters "oh no."

A torrent of white motes burst from the wound, surrounding Rommin in a cyclone of white haze. His eyes turn white, and his body, previous sagging from the wounds, jerks upright like a marionette. In a blur, he lashes out with his sword at the offending arachnid.

Two handed sword vs. the spider
To hit 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage 2d6 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 4 + 6 = 20

Touch negative energy slam attack vs. the spider (or the mite rider if the sword blow downs the spider)
To hit 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Damage 1d4 ⇒ 4

This is round 5 of 9 raging for Rommin.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Rommin:
You hit anyway, but I can't figure the calculus on your attack bonus. I was thinking 5 + 2 (rage) - 2 (shaken)

Rommin attack is as lethal as it is mechanical. The spider is destroyed.

GM:
No, I forgot the shaken penalty; sorry I was doing that at work and lost track. The +6 just represents strength with two handed, power attack and rage bonuses.

F Human (Vudrani) Cleric 2

Hema cuts a glance at Rommin's odd behavior. "Hey, Rommin," she says, "You all right?" He doesn't look like he's in imminent danger, so she moves up to continue the fight. "You let me know if you need help, okay? I don't have many friends and wouldn't like to lose any new ones."

I take a five foot step to square (8,6) and whack-a-mole on blue man #2

scimitar attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Since that doesn't hit I stand there and mock his parentage, threaten with some Raid and a flyswatter. You know the drill.

Female Elf Wizard 3; Init +1 (+1 Dex.); Senses Low-light vision; Perception +3; AC 15 (+1 Dex., +4 armour); hp 20; Fort +2, Ref +2, Will +4

Valai turns, cursing, and raises her empty hand in a magical gesture.
"Ignem iubeo!" she chants - and a cone of flames sprays forth from her hand, engulfing the approaching Mites.
"We have company back here!" the Elf yells.

Concentration 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 2 + 4 = 24 to cast on the defensive: success! Valai casts Burning Hands at the Mites approaching the group from behind. With a range of 15 ft., that should be all of them. :D Damage of 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 fire to all, Reflex save DC 15 for half.

Shortsword MH Attack - Flanking: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Lawsom will attack the Mite that he is flanking with Hema. Should that mite fall, he will attack the spider instead. No more poison!!!!

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Lawson slays the mite with the blade in one hand and draws spider blood with the blade in the other.

The crowned mite starts screeching commands at his underlings, backing away from the actual fight.

Undercommon:
Aaagh! Magical fire! Kill the she-elves!

The three mites on the stairs press the attack even as their leader retreat up the steps. Their attacks are meager and are easily evaded by the crafty wizard. The southern group, including their spider have lost their belly for this fight and flee down the western tunnel.

Withdraw actions from the southern crowd allow them to retreat without provoking further attacks. Pursuit of that group will take the pursuer off the battlemap in one turn, so declare that as your action in initiative order as the battle with the northern crowd continues, and we'll resolve the pursuit independently from the fight (should anyone choose that road). Amadia is still entitled to an action.

Init
Lawson, mites, Amadia, Rommin, Hema, Valai

Amadia swiftly translates for the others what the Mites are saying. "They plan to eliminate the source of magical fire, thus, myself and Valai are their targets"

Delaying for now, just in case Valai wants to unleash something like Burning Hands and kill them all.

Rommin will delay, waiting to see what Lawson, Valai and Hema do.

F Human (Vudrani) Cleric 2

"Wait," Hema yells to the mites running away, "I have something for you!"She really hates it when people don't finish what they start, so she chases after them and attacks.

I move to (3,9) and attack.

scimitar attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Beware, mite spatters ahead!

Female Elf Wizard 3; Init +1 (+1 Dex.); Senses Low-light vision; Perception +3; AC 15 (+1 Dex., +4 armour); hp 20; Fort +2, Ref +2, Will +4

"Miserable little pests," Valai grumbles, flicking her open hand at the Mites and spraying them with more fire - careful not to engulf Hema with the same blast. Sadly enough, this very precaution causes her to miscast, and the magic fizzles!

"Curses!"

Burning Hands, Reflex DC 15 for half of 2d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 fire damage. Casting defensively: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 4 = 12

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Lawson follows Hema as far as the light extends but doesn't chase the remaining spider or mite any further. These two enemies are lost to the darkness of the western hall. Lawson winces and leans on Hema for support as the spider's poison has further deleterious effect on his strength.

Rommin steps into combat with the remaining mites and kills one of them with his giant sword. The last two melt in the face of his fury, the little mite captain leading the retreat as vigorously as he trailed the charge. He catches his ludicrous crown on the low ceiling of side tunnel as his troops pressure him from behind.

This combat is effectively ended. Combatants have fled both to the north and the south. Lawson fails two more saves v poison before defeating it (terrible DMPC rolling on my part). Lawson is now down 5 Str, giving him a total of -3 penalty to normal melee damage and Str related skills.

Rommin comes to himself once again when the melee subsides. Looking at the grievously poisoned Lawson, he asks the others "What can we do for him?"

Female Elf Wizard 3; Init +1 (+1 Dex.); Senses Low-light vision; Perception +3; AC 15 (+1 Dex., +4 armour); hp 20; Fort +2, Ref +2, Will +4

"If our resident priestess can do nothing for him," Valai says, "I have two curative potions left."

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

DMPCing Hema - she's tied up at Strings institute all week (ooh that was punny).

Lawson requires a prayer that Hema's never been successful at (lesser restoration - cleric lvl 2) to restore the strength that the spider poison has drained from him. That said, she feels that a night's rest and a morning's prayer may yield a different result.

Not to put too fine a point on it - you guys are eligible for level up at the next stop in action. From the perspective of the time-of-day, your morning has lasted all of about an hour. But from the perspective of team health, some of Lawson's combat abilities (the damage he does) are compromised. That said, he is a finesse combatant, so the strength damage is not as serious as it would be for say, Rommin.

Female Elf Follower Alias

Its prolly safer to rest as Lawson is vulnerable, and Amadia is out of her bursty bomb damage. I don't really mind what we end up deciding, just pointing out that I don't mind resting up.

Female Elf Wizard 3; Init +1 (+1 Dex.); Senses Low-light vision; Perception +3; AC 15 (+1 Dex., +4 armour); hp 20; Fort +2, Ref +2, Will +4

I'm up for a rest. I'm running low on battle-ready spells and it was a rather intense hour for all of us... ^^;

"Your diety's power seems to have done Lawson some good, Hema. But I think we should still recover and regroup after these last couple of melees." He looks away, clearly embarrassed, as he says "When the spirits take over, they take a toll on me."

Leveling up, getting Lawson to strength, recovering spells and bomb uses, adding back rage rounds. I'm not for camping after every encounter, but before we go deeper into the mite lair it would be exceptionally prudent for us.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Alright folks, seems like everyone is likely back from their RL diversions. This is a level-up spot, so lets go ahead and and do that. Your rest in this case is likely to be longer than eight hours since you need Hema's new prayers and those wouldn't be granted by Saranrae until the following dawn. Alternately you could return to shore and seek the services of a priest - this would have the added benefit of preserving Hema's new prayers for the day ahead, rather than spending them recovering from the day that's passed. It might also offer you a chance to tie up any other lingering shore business, make contact with the Pathfinder house, buy additional potions like lesser restoration, etc. If you're just resting here please settle on a camping place and establish a watch (you're in the middle of a hostile ruin after all with enemies both in front and behind).

Female Elf Wizard 3; Init +1 (+1 Dex.); Senses Low-light vision; Perception +3; AC 15 (+1 Dex., +4 armour); hp 20; Fort +2, Ref +2, Will +4

Bump. ^^

Rommin wakes from his nap well rested. He stands a stretches, working out the kinks of sleep. He closes his eyes and places a hand over his abdomen, feeling the power of the spirits restored and pulsing inside of him. He sits and patiently sharpens the blade on this two handed sword, knowing that it will be put to use soon enough.

Rommin is ready to go.
