That sounds fine by me. Really, whatever method you think best would work. I know they've said overall, the combat xp given in the adventure is approx. fast rate for the 3.5 AP's. However, if you wanted outside encounters and what not, it's fine with anything really.
In short, we're in your capable hands ;).

In response to Breborks idea of a treasurer I thought it would be good to have an OOC record of the loot we find.
Treasure Record:
From Badawi Ruins:
Renfro's Necklace (unknown protective magic) in Duhma's possession.
Cinnamon, Dukkah, Cumin, Nutmeg, Saffron, and other spices (50-60gp value)
Gold and Silver coins (42gp value)
+1 Mace -- Given to Kyra

To keep from blogging this thread down with our treasure lists I put a spoiler in my character profile where everyone can see what we have collected and where it's gone to. I will try to keep each find listed by where they were found to help players remember the circumstances that got us the treasure. Please feel free to let me know if you think I got something listed incorrectly. Eli is a rogue but he is not a thief.

Ok guys, I have been thinking about a houserule as DM. This particular one only affects spellcasters. This thing about limitless orisons bothers me because then there would never be any droughts in the world, with a 1st level cleric creating as much water as he wants, 2 gallons of water per round, 20 gallons per minute, 1200 per hour, etc. You can hire a cadre of 1st level clerics to fill a reservoir in 1 day! It rubs me wrong. So from now on, the rule is this: You can cast orisons 4+ability modifier times a day. So, for example, a cleric with 16 wisdom can cast a spell 7x a day. Comments and opinions are welcome.

Jarva bin-Stavain |

You are the boss, DM. I am cool with your rules. If you are good enough to DM for me, I am fine with your word being law.
I would point out that Create Water won't solve the world's water issues, as it disappears after a day if not consumed, per the spell's description. I don't know if that would allay your fears or not.
But like I said, I am fine with any rules you put forth.

Its a well run story with well run characters... I'm not surprised we hit 500+ so quickly.
Regarding orisions/cantrips: I'm going to consider this a house rule now in place and update my stats accordingly. The only suggestion I might make regarding it would be to factor in level. For example, uses per day equal 4+ability+(level or half of level), or even (4+ability)times level.

Question: Is the slow down with the posts due to RL issues in all your lives? Or it just that a murder investigation tends to slow down the action and cause disinterest, depending on what type of player you are? Feel free to comment, I am taking this directly from the AP, so you will not offend me, if it is the latter. Just curious.

Gerald |

Real life's been a bit hectic the last couple of weeks.
Also, in my limited PbP experience, investigations and gathering info and diplomacy slow down a lot of characters posting, since generally only the "face" characters are any good at it. Guys with Jarva's 8 charisma hinder investigations more than help, so I tend to post less in circumstances like that.

Gerald |

And for instance, dungeon crawls are tough too. Rather than 6 people talking and checking for traps and things, I typically sit back and let the rogue handle all that stuff, otherwise it tends to get confusing with a ton of posts all doing the same thing.
Those are just inherent rough spots in PbP games. And I'm not sure howto smooth them over.
But the clues made sense, and the meeting with either a suspect or red herring helped too. I think we are making our way back to Garavel now to present our (limited) findings.

In PBP players tend to let the GM take the lead a lot more than in Table Top games. We need you to move us from scene to scene. Once people stop posting on a subject you can spring forward to the next scene. For example once the they were done in the wagon and we were done with Dashki you could bring us together with a post to join us as a group sharing what we just learned in separate parts. We don't actual have to tell everything because we all read the same prior posts. I knew that they found a dagger and suspected murder OOC so a simple post the says "you all get together and share what you have found and here is a new tidbit to keep you going" would do well. By sending us some of the info in spoilers and some by email you allow us to have nice reveals which is a good way to help keep players posting so that they can share the secrets with the group. One of the problems I had when running my first PBP was the pacing from one section to the next. I kept waiting for the players to tell me where they went next. Sometimes you just have to say okay your done here and this is where you are now, based on the logic of the flow of the story and the actions of the players. They way I solved it was thinking about it as scenes in a TV show. They are short we see the important stuff and sometimes it is implied that all the characters know whats going on even if they were not present in a prior scene. When the scene is done we jump to the next scene. For example our group is done investigating and the next scene is to tell the princess. Enough of the group have said to do this and now one is doing anymore investigating so now is a good point to start the next scene. You have been doing a great job with description ant he players have as well so between you setting it up an with us filling in our actions the story should flow along just fine. If someone missed because of RL and wants to do something in the last scene before moving to the next they can start their post with the last actions and then detail the new actions and you can resolve it in a separate post. LOVING the game and I think all the players are still here and eager to keep it going. Hope this helped sorry if it doesn't.

Lucendar |

Good to know, I was unaware of this, being new to PbP. Thanks a lot. I wanted to move the scene when it looked like you were done investigating, but thought that in game terms, only a few mins had passed and it would seem unreasonable in game for Garavel to summon you 10 mins later. Thus, I was waiting for you to say, we go see Garavel. A few bumps along the road.

I've been fairly busy in real life, but checking the thread at least once a day (usually 3 or 4). However, there was a time there on the weekend, where Quzman didn't really have much to add.
During the days, it seemed that folks were able to post a lot last week, and that was great and the combat and aftermath rolled through. Unfortunately, this time of day I usually can't follow the story, but look forward to catching up when I get off work. Please use DM prerogative to move Quzman forward with the story as you will if that seems appropriate. I have no issues with this, and actually prefer if others are not held up by my inability to post. It helps keep the fun and story going for all.
Also, for my 2 cp, I am really enjoying this. This has been the longest and most active PbP I've been a part of to date.

From what I understand:
Dumah's idea: announce illness and/or bluff them with collapse in front of everyone to stress gravity of situation, advise whomever was close to wagon to report for medical checkup/cure, interrogate the people who appear.
Eli's idea: Let it slip that there is some illness with some general symptoms, that there is an antidote, wait for killer to try and steal it.

MythrilDragon RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16 |

Dumahs plan is telling the group that the poison is released and will effect people by nightfall but not to worry the cleric will be able to detect anyone who might have it soon. We also tell them anyone who was in or near the wagon slightly before the fire will be most likely effected. The hope is that the killer will want to prevent getting detected and will either flee or try to get Brebork before Brebork can detect him/her.
Eli wants let it slip we have info about at poison that anyone who was in the wagon before the fire would have it and slip out a list of symptoms that the a person in the wagon would have. These symptoms would be fairly common place and under normal circumstances no one would think twice over. Eli hopes that fear, stress, or guilt will make the killer start to "see" these symptoms in themselves and panic and try to steal the antidote to cure themselves without begin detected because only a killer would have been able to be affected.
While I like the complexity of Eli's plan and I think it makes for good story telling, I can see the benefits of Dumahs plan and think it might work better. Don't tell Eli I said that ;) Something tells me Eli is going to go the way of the bard not sorcerer as I had originally planed

Brebork |

I read about a similar ruse in pulp fantasy fiction novel I read (I can't remember the title - sorry). They lined up a bunch of suspects before the altar. The priest performed the feigned rites on a number of suspects. The first few in line were all bogus suspects. One of the bluffing suspects would actually be caught and be dragged off for "treatment" By the time the real suspect approached they're were ***ting themselves...

Brebork |

I am really enjoying the way these characters are shaping out. Dumah always shows his cool, reasoning mind. Eli has the talent for intrigue...just look at this mess he has started with the poison con job...nuts! Quzman is like the conscience of the party. Javra is shy, but takes cares of everyone. Kyra has been mysterious and quiet (brooding maybe?).
---------
Brebork is treading a fine line. What he is doing with the big ruse could be construed as blasphemous.
He may have the wisdom of a holy man - but he is still young, passionate and ambitious. He flys by the seat of his pants a little bit and is not afraid of the spotlight (he's a bit of a pompous windbag sometimes if you ask me).
I have tried to ad lib some things for Brebork, ie. the visions he suffered when saving the burn victim earlier. I feel that when a cleric saves a man's life with divine magic - that should always be a special thing...I though this might make it more dramatic and leave seeds for character developement. What is Brebork's connection to fire? Why was he chosen by the order...etc..
I hope the DM is cool with that...

Lucendar |

Never saw your message, Brebork, sorry. I like his rping and the description of the healing was super cool and dramatic, just flow with it and take it how you like.
I know there was a lull in the action, since the escaping the sandstorm, with all the talking about plans and such and finding the assassin and CSI, etc., but now I think the action will start to build up again. By the way, if you ever play this AP in RL or in another PbP, you will see 95% of what I have done is not in the AP! LOL...

LOVE the way this is going.. I haven't read the AP so what ever you do will be new to me. I have to admit I was pretty sure it wasn't Dashki since that seemed to obvious. I do like how you took our plan and made it work but turned it on its ear. Now we just need to catch the guy. And don't worry about the pace of the posting I think we are moving along just fine. I started another PBP just before this one and Eli already has 80 posts while my other character only has 33. We are moving along just fine for a PBP.

TDLofCC |

I most definitely did not see this coming ... very nice :)
And I must say that Kyra is more of the frontline fighter then one who makes plans to uncover murderers ;)
Things she cannot do, and knows that others can, she lets go.
All goes well ... until gnolls are sighted.
Be prepared for the barbaric response ;)

Thanks, glad you liked it. I just think it gets the adrenaline going when cool stuff is happening in game and you can't wait for the next post.
