Kingmaker PbP

Game Master Egoish

Five brave souls attempt to tame the wilderness and forge a kingdom.

1 to 50 of 167 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | next > last >>

Hello pbpers,

I have been putting some thought into a pbp and have finally decided to try my hand at it after having a great experience playing in one of Lucendars games.

Rules, we play as closely to raw as possible, core/apg/um/uc are allowed as are anything from the campaign setting books as long as its on the pfsrd.

15 point buy
max starting cash
1 campaign trait
1 other trait
max hp for level 1

I will be recruiting 5, maybe 6, players and tweaking the AP as such. I would like to warn you that the first book and into the second book until your kingdom gets rolling can be a little treasure light, i will be slotting some more stuff in.

I'd like a little bit of fluff on your background and the reason you wanted to head to the stolen land, a simple paragraph will do. Recruitment closes at 7pm gmt on Saturday 12th of May, if its a slow response i might extend it. I would like people to commit to 10 posts a week, weekends are understandably quiet but if we are mid combat posting your action to keep the game moving would be appreciated.

Also one last bit of fair warning, if you want to play a summoner your math better be prefect because i hate checking sheets for errors and this class drives me crazy, its not an auto no but if there are mistakes in your first draft it will be a no.

Dotting.

Hi Menas, super-dotting this :-) Will apply soon

Dotting for interest. Application to follow.

Background:
Leon Gilham grew up in the Brevoy the eldest of 5. His father was a small time charlatan selling coloured water as potions; his mother was a seamstress for the local nobility, the house of Lebeda. At the age of 16 Leon was training to become a butcher when his father conned the wrong people. At first the thugs only wanted their money back, beaten to an inch of his life; Leon’s father paid them back. They came back a week later and did the same. After a year of abuse, the Gilham family was out of money to pay the thugs. This time they didn’t stop their attack. Leon’s father died beaten up to a pulp.

Upon hearing the news, Leon grabbed two knifes from the butcher’s shop and tracked the thugs to an inn a day’s ride from his home town. He waited until they had drunk themselves unconscious before slitting their neck open. Unfortunately things didn’t go as well as he had hoped, since one of the town guards saw him murdering the thugs and chased him out into the wilderness. There he was captured by bandits. Having no money and being young Leon managed to convince them to let him join. He spent the next 5 years with his new bandit family, learning to live of the land and to hide his weapons well. His weapon of choice was the dagger, a simple weapon that was easy to hide. One day his bandit brothers went out for the morning hunt, they never returned. Leon searched for a week, but only found the bloodied rags that once belonged to them.

He returned to his family a man, a bandit, only to find that his mother had died of a broken heart. She believed that he had died at the hands of the thugs. His brothers told him that he had no place to come back to, nor was he welcomed back, his sisters only wept. Having no home to return to, Leon’s only option was to make his way in life alone, he left for the Stolen Lands to make his new future.

Personality
Leon Gilham is a very pragmatic man; while not evil he has no reservations to do what needs to be done. He isn’t altruistic and will never do anything to help a stranger in need unless he gets something in return, but he is incredibly loyal to his friends and would die for them. Since he has lived for years on his own, without friends or family, roaming from town to town, he longs for friendship and family. He is quite and stubborn, especially in his what he desires, and will never admit that he cares less for money than for friends. To outsiders he seems a greedy heartless man, a persona he uses often, more out of habit that for any real reason.

to the mix. I've never played an AP and I'm quite looking foward to doing so

Sovereign Court

Dotting as well. This will be my first attempt at pbp, but I am incredibly interested in it. I will post my application shortly

Dotting. I will most likely be going with an elf fighter, specializing in the elven curve blade. Perhaps serving as a bodyguard for another character?

I should have most of the character posted by either this evening or tomorrow.

-Concept is a gnome musician/spy. Having grown up in a varisian caravan, he has seen the world, and come to the lands after having a falling out with some of his former caravan buddies.
-Note, this is a charasmatic skill monkey rouge, not a damage dealing rogue. He's got a short sword and knows how to use it, but is no great shakes in combat as a small creature.

-Dagger had a problem with gambling. Sure he was good at it, and usually won, but sometimes you have to cheat a little to always win. Or sometimes somebody bigger than you is cheating. Anyway, when one game of cards went sour, really SOUR, Dagger had a problem. After getting stuffed in a sack by a few irate players, he was beaten and left for dead. When he managed to get out of the sack, the caravan, and all he had ever known was lost to him.
-Dagger begins play with the skill knowledge local. However, that isn't really appropriate, as by local I mean he has knowledge of sczarny/carnival traditions and some underworld knowledge. He doesn't know a tinkers curese about where he is. Since the character speaks several languages, he can usually figure out enough to play cards.
-Dagger is chaotic good, but has a serios gambling addiction, which leads him to the occasional alignment slip. He wouldn't sell out his friends, but he might lose his own gear. He wouldn't sell his sister, but he would beg her for one money so he can play one more hand. As a gnome, he is easy to intimidate, and is afraid of a fair fight against people 1m taller than him.

I'd like to submit Antha, half-elf wizard (universalist). The background and gear need to be revised, but otherwise her profile and such is complete.

Dark Archive

Submitting Zoc for approval. Have to rework a few things (he was created with 20 pt buy) and tweek his background a bit. Should have him updated by the weekend. Good luck all!

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens Subscriber

I'm interested and willing to be flexible for party balance - either a sorceror or ranger/fighter type maybe. Will try to put together some ideads today - if its not too late.

Good luck all!

I wrote Sergei up awhile ago for another Kingmaker game that I wasn't able to commit to at the time. I still like the concept and would love to give him another chance.

I may tweak him a little, since I haven't really looked at his stats in a few months, but the background and basic build will remain the same.

I'm interested and will have a cleric worked up. Is this race okay? Its on the pathfinder srd but just wanted to double check since its not core.

The race simsaran unfortunately are not ok, they have an ok stat distribution but they have far to many spell likes on top of their other abilities.

If you are tied to the concept i will consider a rewriten version a la council of thieves teifling but they do not look balanced as a player race. Sorry.

I have been working on a halfling cleric of Erastil for a while, hoping to bring her into a Kingmaker campaign. I have something to submit shortly...

Liberty's Edge

Hi Steven,

If you are not too tired of me I would love to get to play in a Kingmaker game. No problem with 10 posts a week for me. I'll submit a caster concept after reviewing setting. Thinking Oracle.

Dotting. I have a druid build ive been wanting to play, ill draw it up
Here soon

Hello again, I would like to apply with this guy - Alagor Faelan. All the information and crunch are in his profile.

Ah, but those noblemen's guards leave so much behind..

I too shall apply for this journey..

So far we have...

Leon Gilham, Human knifemaster rogue (needs profile)
Torillan Ellandilas, Elven two handed fighter (needs completion)
Dagger, Gnome rogue (needs profile and completion)
Antha Scapegrace, Half elven wizard (complete)
Zoc Nightleaf, Half elven monk (complete)
Sergei Malov, Human scout rogue (complete)
Alagor Faelan, Human weaponmaster fighter (complete)
Shianne Ryu, Human ninja (complete)

Incomplete applications just need to be filled in, Leon needs a profile, Torillan needs full stats and Dagger is just an idea at the moment so needs filling in.

Profile up and running

I should have it done by tonight. Thanks for your patience!!

No problem, the cut off date is still 3 days away so you have plenty of time.

Any issue with a lawful evil character?

As long as you can work with the other party members i have no problem, so if you can write into your background or personality a reason that will work for me.

No problem, should get the alias up tonight.

Would you possibly allow a Nagaji Monk(zen archer) build?

If not then I'll throw together a human cleric and call it a day.

Here is an Aldori swordsman - he fits all your baseline requirements save in gold.

I think I need to up the equipment as this character was made for a low gold campaign.

I'll polish him a bit too.

I play in a few other pbp's and am a regular poster in all of them - generally 2-4 posts a day pm each.

The race itself seems fine, stats are ok and no sla's. Its a strange fit for the campaign but if you can pull it off it will be cool.

Aldori duelist looks good, i can't view the profiles too well at the moment since i'm at the hospital waiting on our baby being born but i'll catch up again one evening this week

Congrats! Hope all goes well.. make save vs screaming :)

May I present Maksim huntsman and a Brother of Erastil?

Full stats and background are in the profile. If there are any questions you have or any changes you would like, please let me know.

In Brief, Male, NG, Cleric of Erastil, with a longbow. Thinks of himself as a huntsman not as a priest. On the run for a crime he did not commit. (Cue 'The Fugitve" theme song. Yes, I'm old).

Ok - I've upped the gold to max and checked encumbrance and gold costs alike.

I'm medium encumbrance but if I drop the Pack I am good to go (or assuming we can set camp).

Theres a pretty decent background there and a reason for him to be in the charter scheme.

Watched it every week myself.. in black & white.

That was me, six months ago! Your first?

whoa - you're becoming a daddy? Errrr... not sure how pbp is gonna work for your 'schedule' (I use the word very very loosely).

Yeah, I was about to say. Congratulations, but I'd hesitate to schedule anything until you get a feel for your schedule.

Unless you're an old hand at this...

Dark Archive

Congrats DM Ego on the new child

Dark Archive

Ya man congratulations! Hope all goes well!

dotting, and Congrats.

Dark Archive

Dotting going to modify this character to fit.

Congrats on your wee one.

For your perusal I submit Dean Warmack.

Congrats on new baby!

Shianne Ryu wrote:

My mother and sister were fans, so I watched too. Saw few eps in color when parents bought new TV, when they tried color to get ratings.

Updated profile: changed to shortspear to save weight and get Light on my feet.

See more posts are rolling in. Good luck everyone.

Thanks for the congrats all.

Just for your worries, this is going to be my second time running kingmaker but my first pbp. I've had to cut back on irl gaming due to the obvious but since i post from my phone, work and home i can easily manage the "schedule".

My only worry is the maps, i'm far from a expert with map tools but i intend to pick it up as i go.

This is our first child but life cannot entirely stop due to children and i am happy to dedicate the free time i have to a game i love to play, and pbp with its slower pace and open posting times suits my needs perfectly.

Since i just got back from the delivery i'm in need of a shower and sleep, but i'll take a look over all the applications tomorrow and make another list of everyone.

If your worried about maps you could do what I do.

1) If you have the AP as PDFs open them in acrobat reader,
go to the page with the image / map you want and adjust the zoom to the right size.
2) go Edit -> take snapshot. click and drag from one corner to
the opposite corner.
3) open MS-Paint, photoshop or another paint program.
3)b) if using photoshop, go file -> new.
4) press Ctrl+V (i.e. paste).
5) edit the file as needed (or if photoshop use the layers) and save it as PSD
6) go File -> "Save As," give it a name and select the jpeg file format.
7) upload it to a hosting site like photobucket.
8) when the map is needed go into photobuck find the image click on it's direct link and use the url forum code to allow players to see the file.

So far i've used an extractor to get all the map images out of the first books pdf and sized them for map tools and added coordinates. My worry is getting pc's and monsters on there and making maps for random encounters, but i'll work it out. Can't be that hard with the number of people doing it, i'll just have to learn.

That's where having photoshop is a bonus, you can put the PCs, NPCs, and grid into their own layers in the photoshop file, and do a save as for each round.

When the round is over, you open the PSD go to the layers where characters have moved and move them one at a time. when done save it, then go save as and make a jpeg copy that has the round number attached and upload it to photobuck.

Map sample round 1
Map sample round 2

Thats handy, gonna give that a whirl. Seems a quick and easy task i can do in a few mins, gonna have to get photo shop.

I forgot the Mention a helpful photoshop tip,
and it requires the rulers being on,
is to click and drag guides from the rulers to over the map's grid lines.

it locks the Characters and any layer editing into grid like chucks.

photoshop has lots of great little tools,
even a copy as old as Photoshop 6.0.

Oh I didn't realize you just had a baby. Gratz! With that being said, I am mostly done with Petronicus's fluff. Finishing off the crunch. I have been trying to get into a Kingmaker campaign since I first discovered Pathfinder and a GM who is already familiar can only make it better!

Sorry it took me so long to get him up but here is my Zen Archer monk. I need to make an alias for him and he needs gear and a background but other than that he's all set...well I might switch traits around yet.

I have two interviews today so I don't know how much extra work I'm going to get done on him today but he'll be done by tomorrow night for sure.
