Biography: Ain't much to tell. I was born. I grew up rough. Got into some trouble up north and came down here to get away from it. There's always some work at a bash like this, if you know what I mean.
GM:
All of that is a lie, a cover story. His name isn't really Sergei nor is he actually a criminal on the run. In reality he's a spy working for the Surtova, hoping to find out what Rostland is up to with these expeditions into the Stolen Lands.
He was born a younger son of an impoverished branch of the family, with only the name and a little land remaining of their heritage. His parents placed great importance on the claim to nobility, but he never did. He probably would have wound up in military or as an actual bandit, but an uncle saw potential in him and took him to be trained as an agent. Maybe he should feel more loyalty for the opportunity, but he knows it was only because he could be used, not out of affection or family feeling.
His uncle, Aleksi, is high in the Surtova's spy organization. Uncle is a courtesy title, the real relationship is more distant and complicated. He's a ruthless and cunning man, well suited to the post. The position is not known outside the inner circle. Aleksi holds a fairly large estate near the capital and has done diplomatic work, that requires royal prestige, but not the king himself. As far as Sergei know, he's absolutely loyal to the king.
Sergei has been his protege these last few years, leading other recruits to whisper about favoritism and pushing Sergei to work even harder to disprove the rumours. He's always seemed to genuinely have Sergei's best interests at heart, but Sergei's been behind the scenes enough to have seen that charm turned on and off for others.
Appearance: Sergei is a small man, not tall and a little too thin. Tanned skin and short brown hair. One of those average faces that you never really remember. The only distinctive thing is that he's always in motion. Pacing, shifting in his seat, tapping his hands or feet, always moving. Except when he's working. Then it's just the eyes, always moving, watching everything.
Personality: Friendly, outgoing, always interested in whoever he's talking to. So nice, it's hard to remember he can be completely ruthless.
