Sorry if my last in game ooc post was a breach of etiquette. i often find that at the gaming table you would take the opportunity to discuss a situation ooc before, during, or after the roleplaying such that there is no miscommunications. Its metagaming for sure but it makes the process of communicating easier. I see that the PBP world is more about the roleplay. Is there an official ruling on this sort of thing?

Beats me, I have no experience in any of it. I've never even had a battle/fight yet, lol.
I also wasnt trying to shoot you down, I just thought it was a little... awkward to have a side discussion about battle at a dinner table, where the host wouldnt notice, lol. I'm going to let the bard talk, but Oro's going to step in if he thinks something shady's going down. He's not the best at recognizing when not to step in, and may insert foot in mouth.
As to the idea, I whole heartedly agree. We can do it IC maybe? But going in blind seems silly. I've been musing IC about the rest of it. And agreed on the not killing everyone thing. I dont know how to disarm and capture someone IC, gonna need some help Mr. GM. Hell, gonna need help with a lot once the dice start rolling.

oh, I never took it as "shooting me down" but I see where the miscue might have been. On the part where Krallek said
"As soon as the moment permits I tell the party that ..."
What I meant was, "as soon as a moment of privacy presents itself, Krallek mentions to the party ..."
And then on to the bit about having a strategy in place.

You can disable and disarm your opponents by using subdual (non-lethal) damage. This incurs a -4 penalty to attack with a weapon that is not designed to do non-lethal damage. Things like saps are designed to do this and do not incur the penalty. You can also try to disarm your opponent with the 'disarm' combat maneuver. There are also many other ways you can win combat with opponents. You just have to be clever. However, your charter clearly sates you can kill these bandits.
Krallek, I understand things have been moving slow and the RP is taking front stage right now, but I am trying to set the stage for the world you are about to enter. It will become heavily combat oriented very soon. I don't mind a bit of meta-gaming, but those statements wouldn't necessarily be beyond what your character would think-up and say.
Right now I am giving you a chance to think up a battle-plan and strategy and discuss amongst yourselves if this (fighting the bandits) is worth it. There seems to be two different approaches to PBP - one is a bit more drawn out where you guys tend to run the show, the other is where I push the game forward without too much consideration of planning and tactics. I have provided you a map, with locations and a grid so you can use that to plan. I have also provided you a limited strategy via Oleg. If you want, I can close scene and start it up tomorrow with the arrival of the bandits, but its up to you guys. I'll set the pace according to what you enjoy.

I don't think you broke any rules. Nothing you did bothers me. I'd just ask the OOC be kept over here and out of the game play.
I think it will be fairly quick for you guys to come up with a decent plan. I think Deanarth provided a decent start. Heck, you can even just agree with Oleg and jump out when he signals :)

I'm on. Also Spark has some pretty big limitations on it's combat use.
School evocation [fire]; Level bard 0, cleric/oracle 0, druid 0, magus 0, sorcerer/wizard 0, witch 0
CASTING Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V or S
EFFECT Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Targets one Fine object
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw Fortitude negates (object); Spell Resistance yes (object)
DESCRIPTION You can make an unattended Fine flammable object catch on fire. This works as if you were using flint and steel except that you can use spark in any sort of weather and it takes much less time to actually ignite an object.

Being the logistically minded individual I am, a few questions to everyone about how we should handle loot? Remember my experience is mostly table-top, this being my first pbp.
1) When we sell stuff, are you going to give us the total GM Trav, or want us to figure it out?
2) For division of loot/treasure, do we want to use the 'Dungeon Accountant' method (where we calculate the value of all treasure, divide it evenly, and deduct items from gained loot, resulting in a possible loot deficit when items received > treasure gained) or the more friendly divide cash evenly, give item to who it suits best. I've used both methods before and just curious what people prefer.
3) Since I don't really see a way to keep a nebulous 'party treasure' list, I assume we're dividing all assets between the group?

Much like Mels comment, typically on my table top games we have just handed out items to those who can use it/need it. If its an item that two or more players want then they can work it out. If it can't be worked out then they roll a d20 and the highest roll wins it. Priority is given to a player that hasn't received anything yet of course.
The remainder is simply sold to the vender and divided up evenly amongst the party members.
With this system it is possible that things will get unbalanced in favor of one player or another but IMHO thats the job of the DM to make sure the loot items are fair and equitable.
I did play in an AD&D campaign once where one player got a vorpal sword ... basically on a roll of 20 you lopped off the creatures head. Meanwhile if you pooled the rest of the party's loot into a pile the best item we could come up with was a +2 ring of protection. That was a very unbalanced and unhealthy group to play in.

Sounds good to me. I've done both types, and while I can find my own enjoyment out of the 'Dungeon Accountant' version, I much prefer the other.
Though I do enjoy math. If you're curious, a Golden Idol to Pelor, melted down and poured into a portable hole, is approximately 3.5 million gold pieces. Just be careful when the paladin comes wanting it back.

Krall, I'm game to respond to your last post IC, but I feel like that conversation might not take place for another day or two in real life. This whole questioning bit might take a while depending on when Scar up there (the brit) gets around to charming some people. Stick around for the intimidation bits, since you've got a nice bonus. ;)

Indeed. No one need feel like I was offended by your comments. It is after all just role playing. 8) I am not a torturer in real life. Actually, that "technique" I was going to employ, I saw it in a movie ... I didn't dream it up myself!! 8)
Just FYI I am kind of modeling the character "Krallek" after a character in Joe Abercrombie's books named Logen Ninefingers... blended with a little George RR Martin too.
Cheers!

Just checking no one's actually waiting on me to post at the moment, I was rather expecting to hear back from the GM before progressing. I'm used to doing little pithy posts, and allowing others to have a say, allowing for a very clear shared narrative progression, whereas I notice some people are doing much longer "if this, then that" and "after this X will" -- I'm happy to change the way I play accordingly, but I think we should all do the same. Could we have a ruling from our esteemed GM, do you think?

I've been slightly struggling with Mr Abercrombie, but George R. R. Martin I absolutely love. I have special editions of all the books, and a early signed copy of the very limited release Guardians of Order roleplaying game, before they went bust. One of my treasures. Also the Dune Roleplaying Game, which is quite hard to come by. :-)

Ahhh Dune. I remember you well. The book, not the RPing thing.
I kind of like the short, quicker posts. It requires everyone to post a bit more, I think, but we all get a say. I'm just learning the right etiquette for all of this. But it seems to me like short, quick posts allow for everyone to drive the story together.
Also waiting. I can fill up time with character stuff, but... eh.
[edit]Oh, and Trav, I dont want you to think I'm angry or impatient about the waiting. If anything, you were responding crazy fast for a couple of days, and during the "battle".

I loved both series of books. I particularly loved the "homespun wisdom" from the Abercrombie series. There is a ton of profanity in it, much of which I could do without, but it isn't over the top. I just think Abercrombie and Martin both do such a fantastic job of developing characters. Though Martin is somewhat getting under my skin with the last two books. I would think at some point he would want to start wrapping the story line up instead of adding new plot lines and new characters.
As for THIS story line, how are we to progress from here? Are we waiting on the GM to push the story forward? As for the length of posts, well there's no hard and fast rules I think. Just post what you believe is sufficient to get your message accross; some will be short and others less so.

I dont know where to go from here. I got the feeling we were waiting to see what the interrogation would lead to. However, it seems as if Mel never actually asked a question. So, I'll try and push this forward...
[edit]And that makes me the captain of the failboat. How are the Abercrombie books? Anybody that he compares to? I need something new...

I rank Abercrombie amongst the best fantasy writers that are still alive. I daresay he is better than Martin if only because I can't see where Martin is going on any of his plotlines. 8)
Well worth the read if you can stomach the harsh language and descriptive scenes of torture. There's probably 3-4 characters you just cant help but root for. I give it 4.5 stars out of 5.
As for the interrogation, I feel I might have burned that bridge for the moment so I too am waiting on someone else to push it forward.

I wonder whether DM Trav is young enough that he's suddenly had his computer privileges revoked for a week or something... haha. Anyhow, most unfortunately, after a week with no posts when the expectation was daily posts, I guess the game's dead. A pity, because it seemed to start with such promise.
I expect I shall see you gentlemen around on the boards elsewhere. DM Trav, I hope everything's OK -- real life is, of course, so very much more important, so if you're having a tough time, I wish you luck, and if you'll forgive me for changing genres I say to you, and our fellow gamers: "Live long, and prosper."
