Sorry, I'm gonna have to call that out. You guys weren't aware that there was anything dangerous here. You'd cleared out the dungeon, and you're lugging out the loot. Unless you figured a 3rd-level wizard without his spellbook was going to turn on you guys, you would have no reason to assume "marching order".
I get adventurer paranoia, but this seems a bit silly to me. There was no indication from anyone that you'd be leaving in a cautious manner, or that any PCs still suspected that there was anything dangerous in the area. Do you guys go everywhere in marching order? Is this how you enter taverns and shops? Have you been walking around in marching order the whole time while looting the rooms and looking in mirrors?
Besides which, why does it matter? Nobody's attacked you. You're still free to back out, or let Farrukh move up. It doesn't matter in this case, but I'm concerned about the precedent "auto-marching order" sets. I assume marching order when you're in locations you know to be dangerous. Since you've searched all these rooms thoroughly, I find that level of caution unjustified here.
No, we don't use a marching order for everything but we're still in very dangerous place with unknown hazards around every corner. It's not even like we're out on the street yet.
Like I said, I'll roll with it but in the future try to keep Tanith in the second rank. Remember when we started and I found out we were going to be melee heavy? I changed Tanith's build to account for that. Being put on the front rank accidentally hurts.

What unknown hazards? You've been through the entire area. Everything that originated in the entire area is dead. No square has not been stepped on, no corner not turned. The fact that there are foes does not retroactively demand marching order be established.

Right, if there's something ahead to melee that you're blocking Farrukh from reaching. Which there isn't. So...again, why does this matter?
I will continue to place Tanith in the second rank when I have reason to believe the PCs are still being wary. If you want to roleplay this (arguably justified) level of paranoia, fine, but it's not my job to establish that character trait. Just to encourage it. ;)
All this said, I can see why Farrukh being behind Spiny doesn't make a ton of sense, considering the dinosaur is encumbered and moving much slower. That much I'll change; I hadn't really been thinking about movement rates at the time.
As far as where we're going from here, let's be clear, we're not going to the thieves guild. I don't even know if Eben would know where it is. What he does have is a way to send a signal to them; we should just take stuff back to the crooked house (not sure what we can do with the bodies) and we can have someone come meet with us there.

Plus, hey, even if he's living... it's just Filge. He's kind of become the designated buttmonkey of this campaign anyhow.

I imagine we're still going to have to do some fighting; these guys will be inconvenienced by the water, but I don't think they'll drown or dissolve like the wicked witch. It might be worth loading your gun in advance.
The main benefit of flooding the room is it makes their ranged weapons ineffectual, and makes the 40 foot drop meaningless.
Based on this thread (and a discussion with Gark), I'm introducing a house rule to address a small point of confusion in the RAW: An unconscious character can survive underwater for four rounds, reflexively holding their breath. At the start of the fifth round, they drown.
Sounds reasonable.
Now we just need to convince Mr. Squidface to be reasonable. Where's he getting his damage bonus to his spells from?
That would be a Spellcraft check—albeit a somewhat more difficult one than usual.

Yes, he's dumb as they come and no one is telling him what to do. He had a bunch of people in front of him when the lightning thing happened. As far as he can tell, the hallway shocked him.
Also since Tanith hates the idea of him as a PC so much, it'd probably be better for him to just die and me to make a normal PC instead.

You're not allowed to mention your item on the boards or I would have. It's okay, I just got my hopes up too much this time. I've only entered once before, on a lark. But I feel like I actually had a solid entry this year, and I made it past the 55% cull. That, and I knew several people who upvoted my item at least once. Annnnd, another person I play with made it into the top 32, which while I am happy for them somehow also makes it worse.
Edit:Gark, my item was a rod. Fiery Baton Rod.
It was like 8.5k GP, let you light things on fire as spark, shed light as a torch, and 3/day you could activate a flame blade-like baton that functioned as a light mace and did 1d8 fire+str as a touch attack for I believe a minute increment. Can't remember which duration I went with in the end.

Right after I submitted it I also wanted to go back and change it to Burning Crescent Rod and make it function as a sickle instead. Both because the name was better, it feels more druidy, annnnd you could use it with slashing grace then. Oh well!
I'm just combatting the urge to quit all my PBPs now and spend all that time on writing my own third party product instead and self-publishing that. If I keep waiting for RPGSS I'm never going to become a game designer.

Commiserations, Jelani. For what it's worth, I'm officially terrible at doing any kind of predictions as to what makes it into RPGSS- I think only two of the top 32 and one alternate were on my list of favorites. (Though most if not all fall into the 'I liked this item quite a bit and usually upvoted it' category.)
And, while quitting all your PBPs would be a rather hasty and unnecessary action, you are completely right that waiting for RPGSS every year is not the most productive activity. As a middle ground between being discovered by Paizo and devoting all your time to your own 3PP, have you considered seeking out other 3PPs and seeing if they're looking for freelancers? (For instance, this open call for magic item submissions...)
Every year, the time to decide if I'm gonna go to PaizoCon comes around, I look at my post-holiday finances, and say 'mmm... yeah, maybe next year.' And I've officially found myself saying the same this time around.
I just spend soo much of my free time running and playing PBPs. It's fun (usually), but it's time I'm not getting any return on. I'm essentially doing RPG design work and getting nothing in return.
I'll look at that thing.
