Moral quandary time! Are we under any kind of group obligation to consider raising Gattel?
I think we should give him a proper burial, at least. He's earned that much.

As long as your partners agree to it . . .
"Look, babe, my character concept would be so much better if you'd just let me take one level in the 'Suspicious Spouse' PrC. I mean, yeah, I'd be coming home at odd hours and there would be strange phone calls that hang up when they hear you answer, but I'd get some huge Stealth and Bluff bonuses!"
Rynjin |
Oh- to clarify. Eben's 7th-level-up is actually into Bard, NOT fighter. That was just a ruse so nobody would say 'hey, why aren't you casting those 3rd level spells?'

That said, I'm still planning a marital dip in 2 levels. More to be said on that later, but it might also fill the void Eben leaves in not having inspire courage.
Interesting. Now you have me curious.
You planning to drop a few levels of Cavalier (Daring Champion, perhaps, for some Dex-y rapier-y Swashbuckler-but-better goodness?) and then go Battle Herald?
Edit: Nevermind, that requires you to already have Inspire Courage. D'oh.
Somehow I doubt you'd wanna dip TWO classes, then a PrC. =p

Tanith lost a bit helping Carina pay for her restorations but how did you guys end up so rich? I feel like I'm missing a payout somewhere.

Well, you did kinda let him get himself killed trying to save one of your friends. I'd say we (you) need to research his background and find his family.
Cuetzpalli |
You never ask for any of the loot, Tanith. You're too nice :P
Edit: Wait, we do buyout don't we. That makes no sense then.

Cavalier, yes, but it's a 3rd party archetype I was contemplating. (Pending KCs approval, which, since this is the first I've mentioned it, he wouldn't know about...) This one.
Allows use of Inspire courage- off a different pool than my normal bard performances, and based off intelligence, so only a few rounds per day until I get some stat boosting going on, but lingering performance might help with that. Plus fun with teamwork feats (which Action Point expenditure could make very versatile...) Might go Battle Herald eventually with it, but that would be far down the line. And I'm not sure how many bard levels I'd want to give up along the way.
I actually wouldn't be able to go Battle Herald with Daring Champion, because Eben would still lack Inspire Courage, ironically. Still, some panache-y things might be fun, which is why the other martial dip option I've been contemplating is the Hooded Champion.
In either case, the main reasons I want to go slightly martial are to be able to upgrade to a longbow (yes, I know going from a 1d6 to a 1d8 is mostly irrelevant, but it still bugs me) plus a cheap way to give my fortitude save and BAB a slight booster shot. That said, Tanith's talk about having someone pick up an inspire courage equivalent ability does make me feel it's time to start seriously considering it.
Gattel Watam |
Tanith, you've been buying and selling armor pretty frequently. Might've lost a few K through that.
Astraden's also got effectively an extra ~5750 from the group funds for the scrolls and shield.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Tanith's taken a few items - the headband of wisdom and extend rod specifically.
There's a bunch of ways to get inspire courage these days. Don't feel like you've got to do it Danke.
I didn't end up buying any armor. KC let me retcon that mithril armor for an amulet of might fists +1.
Gark the Goblin |
Tanith, I forgot to reply. I was hoping to retrain the Intelligence increase, since I'd only bumped it up there when I was thinking of going with the Feint line.
Also, I'd like to remind everyone that Cuetzpalli is still carrying an infusion of bull's strength. AFAIK infusions are still good after the maker dies so Farrukh could pass his off to somebody as well.
Carina Viera |
I think he's also carrying an infusion of see invisibility.
Kobold Catgirl |
Farrukh also still has detect secret doors, doesn't he?
So, KC, are we doing the Spiny thing, or should I start working on another PC?
It'll be a while before Spiny can get awakened regardless—such would take place during the "raise dead" period after this dungeon.
I'll say that you can assume Spiny getting awakened is what will happen. We'll run with it for the other half of the installment—if it feels too overpowered (or stupid), we'll work Spiny out of the campaign.
One thing that I'd be somewhat concerned about is Spiny's attacks. Three attacks is pretty good now, but it'll officially be outclassed by 16th level. Animals don't get iterative attacks, after all.
Kobold Catgirl |
You can't gore and bite in a full attack.
Creatures with natural attacks and attacks made with weapons can use both as part of a full attack action (although often a creature must forgo one natural attack for each weapon clutched in that limb, be it a claw, tentacle, or slam)
Could be I'm misreading this, but the intention seems clear.

Although now I'm looking into the rule and the closest I can find is SKR saying, "Monsters can do it, PCs can't." Which is sort of useless. I heard of the rule being mentioned off-hand on an unrelated thread and just took for granted it had a source behind it. So if Spiny does get Elmer Fudd's magic helmet, he can go nuts.
Carina Viera |
Just a thought--if Astraden's going to come back, I think we can afford to pawn some of Gattel's gear to get him raised (or at least reincarnated) as well. I'm going by his character sheet--he's got a stash of money back in the mimic room of Sodden Hold...
As to why I'm bringing this up? I liked him. Simple as that.

She's not gonna be happy about it, though :(
Incidentally I came across a rather relatable post today. I've seen KC making that look more than a few times, now . . .
DankeSean RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4 |
I have. That's got a very good shot at being one of my two new 1st level spells next level. (Planning on dropping silent image and taking major image as my next level 3 spell, so I'll have two 1st level seplls known to fill. Not 100% sure on what the other one will be; feather fall is always worth having on tap for emergencies.)

SKR is like that. And then he makes passive aggressive posts on Facebook complaining about people ridiculing posts like that.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
We planning on a flurry of posts in the near future? If not I'm going to head to the gym.
Carina Viera |
So, the order is:
Farrukh
Tanith
Carina
Eben
Spiny?
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Spiny should really be 2nd (he's got great AC and the strongest full attack in the party) but I'm not sure how in control we are of him right now.
Carina Viera |
I've got Handle Animal, but then again I don't know if Spiny will recognize me as his 'substitute master'.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
If Spiny's dino-rage is in check for now, he should be second.
Cuetzpalli |
Up to KC, but it makes sense to me that he would at least follow you guys around if you keep feeding him. He knows all of you.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Okay. Carina's HA is solid. Let's put Spiny on the 2nd rank with a 'guard Farrukh' command.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Would you guys be interested in starting up a Drawception game? We started one at work and it's been a big success.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
It's a super simple browser-based game. Think Pictionary meets telephone.
I'll find you a good finished game as an example.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
I suppose it's also a question of if the Ministry of Thought Crime will let WW play.
I didn't participate in this one but it made the front page for likes and made me chuckle.
The general premise is: One person writes up a single line description. The next person draws a picture based on that description using very basic MS paint-style tools. The next person writes a description based on the drawing. The next person writes a description. Etc.
At the end you get a sweet frame by frame to see how far off course things got.

It's asynchronous (part of what makes it a great at-work game).
I just hit level 3 so I can start my own games now. I'll get something started.

For the record, I'm fine being NPCed for door opening. 90% of the time it goes "Take 10 to examine the door, Take 10 to open the lock" when I post anyway, since I wanted to expedite the process and a 28/31 Perception and 31 Disable Device are usually enough.
In combat I like it less, since I have a few options. But for "Door, search, unlock, next"? Go for it with my blessing.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Pfft home work? That's silly.
That was a general "Let's open the door" Do eet.
