Hey guys, a friend of mine got a surprise military leave and between that and work I've been swamped. However, last night I took the really quick route down some stairs (I.e. I fell) and thus wotk has become a non-issue for at least a day or two, so i will be updating later today.

My laptop died on me last night, eating my post when Kenneth brings up the shield (which I'll re-write now, assuming I get the same dice rolls) -- but one of the things I did mention in that is that the Block 3 from the shield would apply to everyone from the blast -- which should be good news for Gril, at least.

Tilnar |

Same rolls. The dice roller knows all.
I think it might be the battery, to be honest, though I'm loathe to buy a new battery just to learn I'm wrong. It does work under AC power -- at least so far.

Sorry about the block confusion -- I think my Shadowrun 2e brain started to fire there.
Just to be clear (for myself in the future), my understanding of blocks is this:
The block roll will mitigate successes on the attack, however, to neutralize an attack completely, you need to beat the attacker.
So, if I'm fighting a master martial artist who gets a total Fists roll of 6 and I roll a Block of 2, he has 4 shifts left to hurt me with. So the block helps me not get flattened, but I'm still not a happy camper.
By contrast, if I'm fighting a less skilled guy with a 3-stress weapon who's attack roll is a 3, my block of 2 means he has 1 shift left to hurt me with, and then 3 more from his weapon. So, again, 4 physical stress, and ow.
However, had I rolled a block of 3, he'd have no extra to hurt me with, but the Weapon: 3 would still do its stuff and inflict a 3-stress hit... and a block of 4 stops the attack by completely preventing it.
That's it, right? And, also a magical block breaks as soon as it's defeated.

No worries Tilnar, I would rather learn these rules now. Especially as this is a shake-down fight for everyone and allows me to assess capabilities. Looking at the book you are correct - sorry I wasn't sure exactly how it worked compared to Armour.
It's more of a fiery wall amongst the mists (on the floor) which burns up the splinters with Brigid's Holy Fire. So it doesn't stop current attacks.

BTW, thank you for the notes and updates on rules/effects/ etc DSXM. I really appreciate it! :)
I'm slowly beginning to get a picture of how the system works. I think. :)
And yeah, LOL myself! I'm a little slow here (lots of late nights as you can probably tell by my posting times.) While I should have KNOWN it was Bunny, going straight off your description I thought she was some sort of guard dog or blind-service animal! ;P
I love when comedy works so easily! :)

Valegrim |

hehe rolled 1,1,1,2; oh my.
spent nearly all of Friday at the hospital and you never guess what took so long; the doctor of ortho who was the only one who could look at my daughter; got called away to another hospital for her child who was in the hospital; wierd eh; so we waited and she came back and all is well, but pretty wierd eh. Glad none of us we're sick ,my daughter just needed a specialist.
I am a bit confused on what spells and bonuses are currently active; could someone post it? modifiy my rolls as needed.

Alternative look for the Dragon Armoured man
Now THAT'S funny! Thx for sharing! :D

Question about fate point, Would it be possible to use a fate point to increes my defense (FIT FOR DUTY aspect)?
Yes, definitely, it's usually only for a single action - giving a +2 or a re-roll. However you can also create an Aspect like Danny did, or 'tag' a consequence to a villian for a free +2.
There are also a quick explanation of the rules in campaign info tab.

Ragadolf |

Note (If I understand it correctly) Grillian could have used a fate point & tapped his aspect to do a re-roll, instead of just a +2. Normally a plus 2 is awesome, but as you noted, in a fight this heavy, a -2 is pretty low. a reroll is almost bound to have been an improvement! :)
Just a note for the future. (For myself as well!) :)

Grillan Avaruvex |

Aye, and I did consider making that choice. The problem that I ran into was that I didn't really think any of his personal aspects seemed appropriate, and it would have dissolved the Blinded aspect to use that, thereby preventing Grillan from having had even a chance of pulling off the grapple block.
In reality, taking the hit wasn't the worst thing in the world: it sets Grillan up for making a concession and cashing out on the fight, which if he plans it right is definitely in keeping with his aspects and how I view him in my head: he didn't come prepared for this, and he's currently focused on putting on a show, so that the supernatural community in the city will know he won't just lie down because you catch him unprepared... but the real danger to the party crashers will be when he comes after them and is prepared, after they've beaten him here.
The fate points from the consequences are something I'm realizing he is definitely going to need down the line.

Grillan Avaruvex |

I have to admit that I considered trying to hold on for one more round, as the thought of trying to sneak a piece of Grillan's hoard onto him as a tracking device of sorts occurred to me. But it seemed too likely that he'd be able to take Grillan out if I did, from the math. And if he didn't, then it seemed like it would be hard to set up Grillan's retreat as not being a sign of weakness to the rest of the supernatural community.
On a blow like that though, him being buried under a pile of rubble seemed reasonable enough, and Grillan is smart enough to realize that he can bill the time he spends under it playing dead as simply being the difficulties of extracting himself, particularly with a damaged arm.
Of course, I'm beginning to realize that with his relatively low direct combat stats, I probably should have invested in one of the recovery powers for Grillan. There's always the future to do that in, though. As long as he survives that long.
Now I just need to start thinking of how he's going to explain what he saw and what he thinks about it to the rest of the group...

Sadly, with a big consequence like that, it's a large number of shifts to heal you up -- Kenneth can probably start tending you (assuming he doesn't get himself killed) but controlling the power to reduce the severe physical would probably knock Kenneth out from mental stress if he did it with evocation, and probably need a very long time to harness the power through Thaumaturgy.
Since there's a whole lot of us who can whip-up potions, though, we can probably get you a work-around -- apparently both my potion slots are free at the moment.
I do think it was a good concession -- it's a perfect in-story way of getting out of combat -- however, mechanically, you're not taking *anything* for it right now -- the consequence you took came from soaking the hit.
Now, since it's such a spiffy story thing, you might be golden -- but I'm thinking you may find yourself with another consequence to go with that one as the "price" of getting out of the combat.

Ragadolf |

Danny's just been REALLY lucky. He's not a physical kind of guy. He's just been showing off for the girls and the dice roller likes him this week! :)
Unfortunately, Danny's not capable of going toe-to-toe with the real bad guys either! He's more a 'musical accompaniment' fellow. :D
I think I see a rematch in our future. ;P

Duana |

a wild changeling appears!
my crazy mom called me home to star as a villain in a softcore pornographic production satirizing james bond. another trick ending with a polaroid photograph of a leash mauled by a large hound. presumably my gelert. he's not been seen since.
we do not speak of the fate of the frost knight. it was written on the window glass, then promptly scrapped away.
and the constant crunching of ice cubes... *shudders*
anywho, hope ya'll are havin' fun. mah ice princess is probably off being some shade of villain for someone's gain somewhere... :)

Jericho Korben |

Just a warning, if the ghoul gets away with Jericho he's going to go into a royal angry rampage, and in being so angry at himself he will likely say some very unkind things to all of your characters. Just saying, I have no issue with anyone and honestly neither does Jericho. Poor guy speaks from anger.

Tilnar |

Ok, well, I'm sort of reading the current aspects as...
Warrior-Bard of Old
Kenneth is the Herald of Brigid, one who must hold the light against the darkness --both in terms of fighting off the things that go bump (warrior), but also in keeping the knowledge and traditions going and preventing the world from descending into chaos. Basically, this is the aspect that compels Kenneth based on Brigid's whim, but also the one that makes him want to stand up to the darkness.
Romantic Poet's Soul
Despite the power-up that came from being forged in Flame of Kildare, Kenneth's still the same romantic, sensitive poet at heart. He is a gallant and follows a chivalrous code where women are concerned, though he feels it is his duty to win the hearts (and bodies) of women -- and also to protect them (for innocent beauty must not be allowed to be trampled out). This seems pretty easy to compel, both in the positive and negative, I would think.
Runt of The Litter
Kenneth's part of a large family, and while he didn't much get along with them (especially after his mother died), he's always been the little brother who was told what to do and expected to do it. Tied into this, also, is the element of addiction in his family -- his father's alcoholism, and his sister's addiction to Red venom -- and it boils down to being an easy compel; but, on the other side, Kenneth's adept at avoiding the attention of bullies and those who would boss him around.
Bet You Can't Save Just One
This is where the guilt of Cait's death lives -- it stacks with Kenneth's High Aspect to drive him nuts about needing to save the innocent from the supernatural (and why, for instance, he just drew in more power than he can handle safely). I figured this was a compel-bait aspect, because it means that Kenneth will never really be able to stay his hand when there are innocents in danger -- at least not without coughing up a fate point.
Echoes of Caitlin
This will clash and compliment the Romantic Poet's Soul -- Kenneth's one true, deep, love died -- and did so because he couldn't protect her. His heart is damaged and so, he keeps his relationships with women shallow as a result -- which serves to go well with the Gallant's code of glorifying beauty and love - superficial, fragile relationships remain beautiful, because they're never allowed to grow dark. I figure this gets me compels based on Cait's family, as well as messing up any long-standing relationship.
Burns With Righteous Fury
This is meant to be Kenneth's anger and hatred for the dark beings -- a mix of a hothead temper and the fact that, as a Herald of a Goddess, he truly is a righteous individual. Again, I figured this was easy compel-bait, but also a source of strength when Kenneth's facing true evil.
One Faithful Harp Shall Praise Thee..
This is the aspect of Kenneth which (tying back in with the 'bard') causes him to seek the truth behind situations, rather than accept the easy answers. Part of Kenneth's job (and personality) are to find and record the truth of events, and so -- as he did when Jericho was being framed -- he will stand against authority (or even his own best interests) in order to preserve that Truth.
So, with that all spelled out -- do we think there's too much overlap? I'm open to hear people's thoughts.
