Hi people,
so I've got a hankering to get some gaming going and I've been enjoying my reading of Jade Regent so I thought I'd combine the two and try getting a PbP started for it. Feel free to ask any questions, I'm open to discussion but the guidelines below are fairly set in my mind. I'm after four players, might take an extra or not depending on how many apply and the like and how I like some of the applications. Oh and try to avoid stepping on each others toes class role wise since I'm more likely to pick a fighter and a wizard over two wizards. Anyway, hopefully I don't sound over serious and you'll be interested in giving the game a go :)

Character Creation
- Starting at first level
- 20pt buy with no stats above 20 or below 8 after racial traits.
- 2 traits
- Starting wealth is the average for you class
- Max hit points for first level
- No summoners (Sorry, just not my cup of tea) and I'd need a heck of a good reason for Ninja/Samurai
- I'm down with Archetypes but I'm going to limit each character to one even if they multiclass, at least in my mind they represent too narrow a focus to be able to have multiple archtypes on a single character.
- I'm willing to have a look at any of the races from Paizo published material but no secondary published or fan created material please.

Social Contract Stuff
- Being able to post on a daily basis (I understand that breaks have to be taken from time to time, weekends are normally lighter post wise and the like but at a slower then "daily" rate we'll never even finish Brinewall Legacy).
- Rolling will be handled openly, using invisible castle or the inbuilt dice roller, under a spoiler tag, this way you guys can seem me rolling badly or awesomely as the dice gods will, and I can see the same for you, but we wont clutter up the flow of the game with mechanics all over the place.
- During combat I'll do my best to use maps but for very small time combat I may just use narrative description, I don't see the need for a map of "In the middle of the 80ft circular clearing stands a giant spider crouched over a dead horse".
- The Paizo books are avaliable and I'm willing to use most of material contained within. I however, do not have an eidetic memory so if you use anything outside of the core book please tell me which book its from (I don't normally need page references but if it's particularly obscure it wouldn't hurt).
- I'm aiming for a moderately serious tone, I'm not saying no humor or jokes, they make a game memorable, but I'm not after joke characters like "Chesire McPurrs, the Catfolk theif who drinks milk and steals from party members for the lolz" and that flavour of stuff.

Sounds interesting, I'm throwing my hat into the ring.
I think I'd like to try an play an Eldrich knight.
Starting out as a fighter (Because it makes sense that he would have spent time learning that) for one lv, then taking sorceror lv's (discovering an inborn talent over suddenly learning wizardry) and then Eldrich knight lv's.

Hi Jörmungandr. I'd like to play in your Jade Regent campaign. Presenting Mei Szilani, human monk. I'm happy with your ground rules.

Mei is a young monk who has just completed her first years of temple training and is, finally, allowed to travel and discover the world. Her family hails from Sandpoint, and as a young girl Mei was in and out of the Mvashti household. Koya was a second mother, and Niska a beloved grandma. Mai kept up a correspondence with Niska while away at the Temple, and a bundle of Niska's letters in a scented wooden box is one of her most cherished possessions.

Count me interested.
Human magus (don't know archetype yet), changeling oracle of life or halfling paladin hospitaler.

I would be interested in joining your game. Initial thought is a Cleric of Desna with the Varisian Pilgrim archetype (from Inner Sea Magic). I may potentially be interested in going into the Spherewalker prestige class from AP #2.

I'm still up in the air on some of the other bits of the character such as race (Likely Human or Half-Elf), or gender.

I'll look over the Player's Guide for Jade Regent and come back with a more fleshed out concept later today.

Hey, I am interest and wish to join you.

I must warn you that i wish to join in a online game to learn pathfinder as I haven't play it RL yet. I haven't thought of a class yet though.

If you do accept me please send me a pm Jörmungandr as I have some questions.

Dotting this for now and I'll get a character concept up tomorrow.

Hey guys, some nice ideas already. I've no problems with making a character with the goal of becoming an Eldritch Knight (I'd probably just be a Magus instead but thats me :P ). The Monk looks good, and I have no problems with any of your ideas Chainmail. Also have no problem with a Varisian Pilgrim or Spherewalker (thanks for the directions, saved me time finding it). We seem to be divine heavy which is a first for me as a gm.

Oh, and Chado, rather then getting us to pm back and forward you may as well ask the questions here. You also might want to have at least an idea of what you want to play, helps me during the selection process.

Oh, and I should have mentioned this earlier but I'll leave this up for a couple of days and while first come first served isn't my policy for RPGs it doesnt hurt if you have a good character concept and are amongst the first responders :)

Well, as it is my first time I play an RPG online that uses dices, I guess you have a site with random generators?

Also, what will be the time limit between the post?

I thought about the classes :
Well, I would like to play Human Druid or Half-Elf Ranger.

Sorry I'm not sure if you're trolling so I'll be polite and assume you aren't so, as I said in my first post I would prefer rolls to be performed using this websites built in dice roller or the website invisible castle. As for the second question I've requested people are able to post roughly once a day.

Scarab Sages

Hey,.I am interested. Thinking maybe an arcane duelist.bard, or a spirort barbarian. Gah,.& posting from my phone sucks!

I'll try and have a finished character up after work tomorrow and let you have a look see.

I am sorry if something I wrote was annoying or ignorant but this is my second day in the forum, so if I have a gap here or there please show tolerance. I didn't even know that this website has a built-in dice roller.

As for the time I asked because in other forum rpgs there was a time limit like : you got 48hours to post or you are skipped for that round (of posting) and thus the topic wouldn't wait for a person like a week.

I'm interested in a human or elf ranger or elf witch.

Again some interesting ideas people.

I wasn't offended or anything I'm just trained to see trolls even when there aren't any with current internet culture. My basic stance is one post per twenty four hour period but I won't be draconic about it on weekends or during the bigger holidays and the like. During combat if someone isn't able to post for more then a day I normally try to do what is either logical or the continuing progression of a characters actions but during charactreization I don't normally "act out" the characters of absentee players.

Oh, also thought I'd add the following. Since this is a game that includes romance with NPCs I thought I'd add that while sexual relationships may occur between PCs or NPCs I'm of the fade to black school on sex scenes. I'm also not going to be drenching my game in gore but it may be a bit more graphic then a teenagers game. I'd say the maturity rating of the game would be fifteen plus. Hope that helps :)

I'm happy with those content ratings. I absolutely don't need to read amateur erotica here, and it could get massively derailing!

Chado, you could do worse than look at this thread for some tips on how PBP games usually work here.

Also, below the 'add new post' text-box is a button called 'how to format your post. It contains instructions for rolling dice, and also using bold, italics, and

Spoiler:
EXPLOSIVE RUNES

Sorry to bail already, but I stopped and looked at the number of pbps that I'm involved with already, and began to question if I could realistically pick up another one and give it the attention it deserves.

Thanks.

Not a problem, sad to see someone leave already though :P

Quick question, as it'll help inform my character choice. (I love witches and rangers, equally, sometimes even multiclassing the two.)

Is the dreamspeaker elf variant in the APG allowed? If so, then I'll go elf witch, if not then I'll go human ranger.

I had created a Half-elven rogue for an earlier recruitment thread and would like to submit him for this game.

He is a member of the Sandpoint militia who accompanied Shalelu on numerous patrols and has developed a, as of yet unrequited, crush on her.

Just gave it a re-read, I've got no problems with a dreamspeaker, only warning I'll give for a witch is that in the Land of the Linnorm Kings your going to cop some prejudice from the locals. Nothing that'll hurt you mechanically but people might spit as you pass by and the like if they know you're a witch.

I like roleplaying challenges, and would expect nothing less for a witchy character. :) I'll have stats up by tomorrow night.

Since we are divine heavy--should I alias the Magus?
I like Magus to mix melee and arcane, and my halfling paladin mixes melee and healing.

I am intersted to join too, concept would be a Varisian Starsoul Sorcerer, foster child of Koya Mvashti. Her starsoul heritage tempting her to go out adventuring.

Hello, adding my interest to play Marduzi Lovarya, a Varisian Cavalier of the Order of the Dragon. Marduzi grew up as a trick rider in a Varisian clan that was close to the Mvashtis, old Niska, an extra grandmother to the young rider. He promised Niska to look after her daughter if she ever left on a long trip. Stat block is in the profile and I'll add more on background there tomorrow.

Presenting Nostariel Lan, female elven witch, raised by Varisian humans.

Background/Description:

Nostariel was born to parents of elven nobility that were killed when she was young. Taken in by a Varisian caravan that came across the burned remains of her village, Nostariel learned to love her new family, taking to the carefree life, hedge magic, and tinkering with abandon, traveling the rugged hills and highlands. Her passions lied with weaponsmithing, hedge magic, and scouting. It became apparent to her adopted family that she was a witch, and was trained by the fortune teller in the caravan to unlock her potential. When she outlived her adopted family, Nostariel felt she had to strike out on her own, often hiring herself out as a scout and healer with various caravans, and she eventually found herself (at the start of the campaign).

Nostariel stands at 5'10" and has curly raven hair. While it is obvious that she is at least half-elven, she hides her ears beneath her thick hair and Varisian head scarf.

Magus it will be--a soul forger if there are enough party members to make arms and heavy armor for--a staff magus if not. No need to have someone who can make cheap magic full plate if there is no one to wear it.
I will make avatar and alias tomorrow.

I really wanna play, but I'm planning on running this in real-life. Is that okay?

Thinking about a Barbarian, or a paladin, but we've got lots of those.

Hmmm...
I'll have to think about this.

Crunch done. Background to follow. Named after one of Roger Zelazny's better books.
Will be a magus with a staff.

Will be submitting a character concept tonight followed by a character rollup.

Just wondering... shouldn't "Jade Regent" be enough reason for Ninja and Samurai? nevertheless I am interested.

Background, Appearance, Personality, etc. have now been added to profile.

another question. due to your stat system, does anything lower than an 8 automatically become an 8 and anything higher that 20 automatically become a 20? or we just can't get an orc with 17 base strength and 9 int?

Right, here is my Eldrich Knight then, all done, with one change.
He starts as a ranger instead, it makes more sense with the background I've written for him.

Silver Crusade

@Jörmungandr

I am interested in this PBP concept. In regard to your rule about posting on a daily basis.

Can you post more than once per day and daily is just the expected minimum?

I know that during combat, actions are restricted based on rounds. Am I correct in assuming that during non-combat, posting is unrestricted as long as it progresses character development and adds to the story?

Dark Archive

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Yeah, no limit on how many posts only a minimum of one per 24hr period, if you or I are going post mad thats fine, it normally happens at the start of a PbP and trails off into a steady number fairly quickly.

For me part of the fun of Jade Regent is coming across the Ninja, Samurai and the culture they belong to as the game progresses. You kind of dilute that if you have a member of either class beginning the game as part of the party. I wouldn't be against one with a background I enjoyed but I gave the warning because they're not something I'd automatically want to see in the game from the beginning.

Reason I put a limit on the max/min attributes is because I've had some truly silly characters handed to me before with multiple stats at numbers like 4&6. To answer the Orc would contravene what I requested for characters so I would ask you to rebalance his numbers.

So far we've got...

Mei Szilani, Human Monk of the Four Winds
Marduzi Lovarya, Human Cavalier
Nostariel Lan, Elven Dreamspeaker Witch
Toby “the Madwand” Lerner, Human Magus
Ruhk Ekensköld, Human Ranger

Which is looking fairly good, guess we aren't divine heavy anymore but thats all good. These aren't guarenteed positions but they're nice characters so fair warning to anyone else applying.

Sorry I won't be able to get my character up but I I've narrowed down my possibilities:

Elf Druid(Wolf Shawman archetype) with wolf animal companion
Human Fighter(crossbow archetype)

While I don't mind filling the role, we could use some more healing in the group. :)

Let's not forget the lovelorn Rogue.

Makes sense. However with that reasoning, if a character would be inspired by Tian Xia and multiclass into ninja or samurai, would it be allowed?

Well, I guess I'll be submitting a cleric of Desna.

Character will have to wait until tonight though, kinda busy at the moment.

So, this is my starsoul sorceress.

Here is the background that I have. Working on the details, but alas, that must wait until after dinner. Three hungry children and a husband to feed and all that.

Ariniar Delian:

Ariniar Delian
Half-Elf Bard(Arcane Duelist)

Ariniar was born in Qadira, or rather, on ship in the waters of Qadira. Her father, Sanar ibn Nial was captain of the vessel - not quite pirates, but a group of like-minded individuals seeking adventure and excitement. Aristrael Startrail is Ariniar's mother, a fiesty elven woman who left home and culture for the man she loves. Which isn't out of character for one of Shelyn's priestesses. The life that Ari knew growing up was of adventure, tales of great daring, and even a bit of heroism mixed it.

So much did all that absorb into Arisniar, that the young woman became a better teller of stories than her father. It was a great delight for Aristrael and Sanar to listen to Ariniar sing the ancient songs, or even embellish a few of their own adventures.

It was decided that Ariniar had a talent, and so her parents, with much love, hugs and kisses, sent the young half-elven woman to train with the Shelynites in Taldor.

Taldor was a much different experience for Ariniar than life aboard her father's ship. There, she did not even realize the difference between her mother and father, or that a half-elf was something perplexing to both races. In Taldor, despite the love of Shelyn, Ariniar learned this. That is how she wound up in her first 'duel'.

Oh, that was that, for Ariniar! The taste for adventure was long in her blood, and finally having one of her own, minor that it was, Ariniar knew what her life would be! Oh, she continued her schooling in Taldor until it was completed, but the moment it was done, she wrote her parents a letter and set off for the life of an adventurer!

Since then, Ariniar is constantly writing her parents about the sights she has seen, or the adventures she has been on. One day, she hopes to compile them into a book about exploring all of the world.

Liberty's Edge

I'll put something up. Thinking Kensai Magus, influenced by tales of swordmasters from Tian Xia.

Background:

Elda was not originally named what she is named now. Her parents were Tien traders along the Path of Anghei. The family had made a few treks over the Crown of the World, and looked have many more ahead of them when tragedy struck. A group of goblins and orcs raided the caravan and had slain most of its members and were in the process of hunting the survivors when they found the young girl.

They must have been in a particularly cruel mood, because they decided to "play" with their new-found "toy." The atrocities they committed in front of her were, needless to say, scarring. Especially when they found the still warm bodies of Elda's parents and began to desecrate the remains. Then they moved on to the young girl herself. They bound her hands and feet while one of them started a fire and heated one of their shoddy weapons in it like a cattle-brand. They took the weapon and craved a long gash from her forehead to her cheek over her right eye. The cut burned and bleed, but the goblins weren't finished yet. They took a fiery branch from the blaze and put it to young Elda's clothing. She shrieked in terror and pain as the fire caught, but hers weren't the only shrieks to shatter the cold air.

Two Ulfen warriors were tracking an ice drake when they say the caravan come under attack. Without thought for their safety, and their only fear being that they would only be able to avenge the dead, they ran to join the fray. The goblins, distracted by the tortures being visited upon Elda never noticed until their heads began to be caved in and lopped off. The pair attacked with a ferocity that would haunt the few surviving goblins the rest of their days. They found the girl sobbing, screaming, begging for her parents, and desperately trying to smother the flames engulfing her. One of the pair, a druid, put out the flames and healed her mercifully few wounds as best he could before the orcs could return from their rampaging hunts.

The two warriors were a husband and wife from the Whitescale clan just north of Grungir Forest. They adopted the young girl and named her Elda. The events that left her an orphan were only remembered in shadows and nightmares. The only other scar was the one given to her by the red-hot goblin blade.

She grew up in the unusual clan alongside her adoptive cousins, Elaina and Estrid, who turned out smaller than the petite Tien. As a result of their small size, they relied less on brute strength and more on agility and cunning. When Elda was almost of age, she chose to become a cleric of Desna. Elda said it was because if it wasn't for her smiling, she wouldn't be alive, much less with such a kind clan.

At the age of seventeen, wanderlust took it's hold on the young cleric and she left the clan's keep for Varisia. There she was hired on by Sandru as a fortune and story teller. While she saw several new and beautiful sites, Elda's wanderlust wasn't even close to sated. When they arrived in Sandpoint, she quit her job. Sandru, much to her surprised, laughed and offered her some advice on adventuring. She's been in Sandpoint for a few days when everything starts.

As I said earlier, I'm planning on running this one in real life. If that's going to be a problem, I can drop out.

Asira's background is in the profile. Feats and one Trait are missing as are the spells. I will provide the later this day bit I think you have enough information for judging Asira your decission.

Character submission complete, see profile for details. Thank you.
