I like the sword saint however I don't believe that it is very viable for a cavalier, its tailored more for the samurai. Are there any 3rd party products with Cavalier archetypes that do away with the mount and mounted charging and the like? Looking at the class, I think these abilities need traded out: Mount

What is the most viable Cavalier mechanically when it comes to taking an emphasis off of mounted combat? I'm trying to determine what is the best course of action when it comes to the crunch of my character for a Carrion Crown campaign. I'd like to be viable when my character isn't mounted and feel that I can still contribute just as well as the rest of the party. From player's experiences while playing cavaliers, how was your character able to perform when not on a mount? Honestly, I have no desire to play a small character to make the class more viable (I do not like Halflings or Gnomes). Any good archetypes and/or feat combinations to facilitate a capable character? ![]()
Masaru steps aside as Godfrey, the stable boy, asks that Ameiko be moved to a table. He nodded to him and glanced to Kerri, offering her a reassuring smile. "Come now," he spoke in a low tone, once more carefully moving her to the table so that he could attempt to mend her wound. Afterwards Tanimoto got keys to the rooms upstairs and requested that the two women be brought upstairs. He complied and once more carefully moved her, each step slow and sure not to injure her any further, to a free bed once a door was unlocked. He laid her down and if another had not already moved Shalelu, he would return to carry her body upstairs. His expression had steeled into an impassive mask, eyes looking to both woman with concern as he momentarily remained by Ameiko's bedside. As Tanimoto set to take care of the two woman, he considered propriety and glanced to Godfrey. "We'll let the two girls here keep an eye on these two," he explained, gesturing to Tanimoto and Kerri. He was oblivious to the fact that Tanimoto was indeed a young man. "We'll split up and go grab the sheriff and Koya. You know Koya better than I so I'll go call on the sheriff. Alright?" He glanced across the room, concern the only emotion he let tug at his features, before his eyes settled on Ameiko one last time. He quickly took his leave of the tavern to find the sheriff so that he could inform him of the latest turn of events. They may need to raise the security of Sandpoint if something had injured Shalelu so badly. After all, she was a hardened scout in the surrounding area. Even Ameiko was a retired adventurer which only raised his concern. His sense of duty urged him to step up and help out if necessary, even if he wasn't part of the militia. ![]()
@Vanulf: I'm aware of his limited time online. @ DM Mathpro: I see "no archetypes" in your post about character creation guidelines but I had intended to play the sword saint variant of the samurai which swaps out all the annoying class abilities (mount, horse archer, banner, greater banner). Would it be acceptable to play that? ![]()

I want to piggyback off of this and am wanting to play a Samurai. ![]()
I'm looking for a game where a GM is willing to allow me to play a Sword Saint Samurai, the archetype of the Samurai from the Dragon Empires Primer. I'd like to be able to play the Samurai class and not be restricted mechanically, which is my greatest fear when it comes to playing the class. With an interest in role playing a traditional feudal Japan inspired samurai, I think I could add a very memorable character to a game's roster. Let me know if you're willing to consider a Samurai. Thanks! ![]()
With Rise of the Rune Lords being released as an anniversary collection in one book at roughly $60, could we potentially see other adventure paths at a discounted price for buying the entire adventure path line with all 6 books at an equivalent price? With older adventure paths having been out and me having never jumped on the bandwagon, I was hoping to see the APs at better prices. ![]()
As a GM, if I increased the skill ranks for every base class by 2 (ex: Fighter 4, Cavalier 6, Ranger 8, Rogue 10) would it disrupt the game too much? I want to give players the incentive to purchase the Knowledge, Perform, Profession and Social Skills as I want them to be very important to the setting. ![]()
I've been thinking about playing a Paladin and approaching the class for the first time and not quite sure how to play one, even after reading through the class and reading a guide. I'd like to think the Paladin is a jack of all trades: he's a strong fighter, a secondary healer, a second-hand divine spellcaster and is the best against Evil every time. I really like the support they provide to the party and their own resiliency. However, I'm unsure on how to go. I think the best way is to give the guy a sword and shield and let the role play dictate his mechanics. What say you? ![]()
From Ultimate Combat the Martial Artist archetype removes your access to a ki pool however the Abundant Step ability remains with a requirement of a ki point. Can anyone recommend a new ability to replace Abundant Step that maintains the flavor of the archetype? I'd like to see multiple options and present them to my GM. Improved Exploit Weakness (Ex)

The reason I ask is because of how the wording looks in comparison to the Martial Artist archetype for the monk. Martial Arts Master (Ex) At 4th level, a martial artist may use his monk level to qualify for feats with a fighter level prerequisite when those feats are applied to unarmed strikes or weapons with the monk special quality. This ability replaces slow fall. ![]()
At 3rd level, a samurai gains an unparalleled expertise with his chosen weapons. At 3rd level, the samurai selects either the katana, longbow, naginata, or wakizashi. The samurai can draw the selected weapon as a free action as if he had the Quick Draw feat. In addition, whenever he threatens a critical hit with the selected weapon, he gains a +2 bonus on the confirmation roll. Finally, his samurai levels stack with any fighter levels he possesses for the purposes of meeting the prerequisites for feats that specifically select his chosen weapon, such as Weapon Specialization. I remember this being a topic of a lot of debate during play testing and I don't recall there being an official ruling. Does a Samurai need to have a level in Fighter in order to access feats like Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialization? ![]()
I wanted to ask the community how they felt about Pathfinder RPG's 3rd Party Support. Do you like the products non-Paizo companies put out to support the Pathfinder RPG? Do you use any non-Paizo books in your own games? There are a lot of 3rd Part companies and a lot of products. Given they are not authorized for Society play and are not an official product, I've always been curious how well people beyond myself have received them and how much use they get. Are they useful? A waste of time? Let me know. ![]()
I've always been a fan of classes that are not a one-trick pony (although I am playing a Two Handed Fighter in a game for the raw awesomeness of their damage) so I'm pretty familiar with the "Rad Monk" and the Bard, first two loves. I've recently began experimenting with the Ranger and I have to say I really love the class. I get the BAB of a Fighter, a good chain of bonus feats that ignore requirements, two good saves, an awesome skill selection with 6+ on skills per level, spells, an animal companion and favored enemy/terrain which altogether make a fun class. I feel like a cross between a Fighter, Rogue and Druid. How do other players feel about playing a Ranger? I love it because it's fun too. ![]()
Personally I think you should use a normal reach weapon that doesn't require a feat to use (I don't think the weapon is all that impressive). The +2 damage can easily be replicated with Weapon Specialization. You could benefit more from a Weapon Focus and then take advantage of the Polearm Master variant if you're using that type of weapon. Personally, I really like the variant. But you don't want to hear all that... Also, get Lunge. 28 Point Buy Optimized
I personally think using INT as a dump stat is generally bad for Fighters who already have close to no skills and a terrible skill list... Role Play

More than just magical items, arms and armor, Sundering helps against things like doors and other obstacles. It's not the best option but I decided to play off of what my class already had. I don't know what I'll play up to but it's an evil campaign and I'm more or less the "enforcer" -- it's a campaign I joined in for a few months before I deploy. Go ahead and share how you built your "Greatsword Guy." I've invested the ability for mine to be good at Stealth (Highlander trait, Armor Expert trait, max ranks in Stealth, Cloak of Elvenkind and Elven Chain) since we're party of an Assassin's Guild. ![]()
