I'd like to handle the Ulrick's burial, and figure out things with the captive, but then we'll move at a brisker pace.
A good question about making decisions in a dungeon. I don't want to impose a method if you guys have an idea for how to handle this; ultimately its about your decisions, not mine, so you should have a degree of control. Its important to me that everybody feels they can weigh in, whether in or out of character, but I recognize that party consensus cannot always be reached quickly. Are there other thoughts on this?
Also, it's time that I confess that I messed up on experience. I was referencing the fast-track leveling chart without realizing it, so you guys are ahead of where you would otherwise be. You will hit 4th level by the end of first Jade Regent installment, but not likely before that. I'm still keeping track of XP, and have a good sense of it now. I apologize for the confusion, but then again, it was somewhat of a boon to have leveled earlier than you otherwise would have, so I don't feel that bad.

Be assured, Sorin, Lisabett will be pulling her head out of her ass soon and teachin' ya magics. Well, as much as a Sorc can teach a prepared divine caster about magics, I suppose :P I've been playing it like she doesn't know where her druidic magics come from, she just comes away with them after she sits and ponders the stars for a bit.

I figured Lisabett would get around to it eventually. I imagine 4th level is still a ways off anyway. As I don't game in Golarion outside of these boards, how do they AP's handle levels between the books? When Book 1 says levels 1-4 and Book 2 says levels 5-whatever, does that mean that you start Book 2 at 5th level (or close to it) or that you end Book 1 at 4th and you have to play awhile in Book 2 before you get to 5th level.
Interesting how you viewed your Druid abilities as that's mostly what I've done with my Shark Shaman in a Skull & Shackles game. He's TN and has never even met another Druid and he doesn't worship a deity (no named deity anyways). When he levels he has strange dreams and wakes up with the intuitive knowledge.
@DM Hamied: If you ever mentioned you were involved in theatre I must have missed it. My college degrees are in English and Theatre though by the time I got my BA's I was broke, in debt and couldn't afford post-graduate studies. I always sort of regretted that (not that there was anything I could really do).

Sorry if I've been misleading. There is a nearby threat, but not necessarily an encounter. One might happen, depending on your actions, but the horn blast was in the distance, within a couple of miles.
Be assured, there is plenty of combat upcoming, but not necessarily seconds, or even minutes away.
DM Hamied |
You were in the hospital, Hu5tru? I hope everything is okay.
Lisabett sure likes to keep us all creative! I have to admit, I'm nervous any time a party goes into initiative against one another. This has the potential to be a cool roleplaying moment, but it also could explode into party combat. It's a fine line, and I'll ask that we don't cross it.

Husband had minor surgery on his gut as general upkeep for his condition. Five hours waiting in the hospital for a 15 minute procedure. The healthcare system in Soviet Norway is brutally efficient.
And it's not going to come to combat. At worst, she'll drop an entangle spell to slow the heavy armor guys down further and keep running.
I dare someone to try to track the druidess with trackless step :P
By the way, I have internet on the weekends, but it is slower than the dial-up I leached back in the late 90s with my 36.6 kbs modem and it likes to drop off frequently, like... now for instance.
Come Wednesday our vacation ends and i'll be back to fiber and regular posting.

We are not going to kill her... just to drag her back (kicking and screaming, probably... :D)

I'm not thrilled about splitting the group at this point, but I think this is still workable. If Lisabett continues her charge, we're likely headed that direction. I'd like to get her back into the course of the main story, but if she does escape, I encourage the rest of you to proceed. I'll work her back in as best I can when I can.

On a slightly different note, I have noticed that we have traveled for a few weeks before ending up at B rinewall, and yet the magic items that the elves had given us remain unidentified for the most part. They might be helpful on the adventure now.
I would have continued to try to figure what they were on the trip up here.
Do you want some massive amount of rolls, or could we have discovered what they were by this time?
Sorin Nicusor |
I keep hoping for Lisabett to suddenly reappear. I'm not sure about Almar. It's well past when he said he would be back and the holidays are now over as well.
I don't think this is the ideal time to look for replacements as, I assume, we're getting nearish to the end. Is it possible to finish the first book with just the three of us? If so, I'd rather do that than try to rush and fit somebody new in near the end.
DM Hamied |
In terms of tackling the dungeon/castle, I'm sure you three could do it. It's designed for a party of four using a 15-point buy, and the first half is doable by second level characters. I've been tuning things up to challenge the group, but I think with three, leaving the encounters as is will be fine.
I agree that it would be unwise to seek replacements now. Let's finish Book One and see where we stand.

You guys, I am so sorry. Between my course load and professional responsibilities, I am getting completely slammed right now. I've managed to keep active in this game for a year and a half, balancing my GM duties with grad school and career opportunities, but everything is hitting at once this January. Things should ease up by this weekend, but I honestly need to evaluate whether or not I can continue with this game. I'm really enjoying playing with you all, and really hope to keep doing so. Please, give me a few days to get my work done and clear my head.

So here is what I'm thinking - I will need to take a hiatus from the game for several weeks. I'm in the middle of staffing/casting a theatre production and completing my thesis proposal. The majority of this work will be complete by Monday, February 25th. At that time, I'd like to check back in here, to see how folks are feeling about continuing.
I'm really sorry to do this - I consider myself a reliable player and DM and not being able to keep up is quite frustrating. My school/career priorities are necessarily pulling me away from this game, however, and I need to take some time to address them.
I hope that you all understand, and that you're willing to check back in at the end of February.
