Yeah...sorry, Hu5tru. I've certainly taken liberties with your Ulfen mercs, but I do so in a way that I hope will serve the story.
One of the reasons I like Jade Regent is because there is a lot of journey to fill in between places. When I picked this group, I wanted a balanced party, but what I looked for above all else was quality backstory/roleplaying. It became clear early on that the adventure hooks as written weren't going to be motivation enough to get things moving for the whole party, so as things have gone on, I've worked more and more to incorporate your backgrounds into the plot arc of the entire AP.
This is probably a good time to check in with you guys on the pace of travel. I like moving day to day, and it seems to be allowing for some great roleplaying, but I also would understand it folks wanted to speed things up. I will say that as things currently stand, we are close to reaching the final dungeon of this chapter, though it is quite extensive.

It's cool. I'm not upset. Lisabett will be upset that he didn't die in battle and left to the crows and the valkyries but got punked out and stuffed in a box. She may have a thing for Desna, but she was raised with Gorum from birth, so that stuff is rather important.
Plus he was the only that didn't act like a weirdo, and other things most folk in party don't know.

Guys, a heads up. It looks like I will be traveling overseas for a little over a week, starting on July 7th. I am unsure what my internet situation will be, but it is almost guaranteed that my posting rate will be affected.
Things should proceed as normal until the 7th, and I will be back and on my regular schedule as of the 20th. I apologize for the inconvenience, and for the relatively short notice.
Thanks!
Almar Ashfield* |
Sorry Lisabett but you are putting Almar in a position where he can't act any other way. He doesn't think he did anything wrong, far from it he thinks he and Sorin did something good by unmasking the creature. And to him asking for a punishment for possibly saving the caravan was the epitome of ingratitude. I understand you are playing out the personality of your character but then I've to do the same.
Lisabett Erikkson |
Is cool, we all have different perspectives of what Almar said. Hers happens to be different than his, as... has always been the way between them. I know he confuses her intent all the time.
She wasn't asking him to leave the caravan, she was asking Sandru to step up and be a captain when it was clear that the defecation had hit the oscillation. Almar is a guard, not the captain.
Lisabett Erikkson |
Gonna have a long hard think on where I'm going with Lisabett for the next few days, I think, because my first inclination is to do something incredibly CN and not at all Shelyn with the Espen NPC.
Second choice would be the Qouaral NPC because he never talks... which is the only joke I can pull out of what she's going to be doing for a while.
DM Hamied |
I'm not going to encourage or discourage anything, as I think it's tough to overlook the way Espen acts towards you, and women in general.
As always though, keep your companions in mind (it sounds like you are, given the reference to Shelyn). There's a lot of party tension, and while I think most of us enjoy that, I never want it to devolve into in-party combat.
At any rate, off to London! I hope to get the chance to post occasionally over the next two weeks, but I'll be back to my normal schedule as of the 20th.
Almar Ashfield* |
I see, well... have a good time anyway!
P.S.
I discovered Paizo is going to release a book on prestige classes in August and one of them is going to be Shieldmarshal! And another is going to be Ice witch (prerequiste will be having at least 1 lvl of the ice witch archetype btw). Almar will be very happy probably and maybe Lisabett too!

What was Lisabett's response/reaction to Sorin's last comment (post #2350) or did she decide to ignore him. His earlier questions have already been left dangling and unanswered and I'm reluctant to post again until I know her reaction.
Lisabett Erikkson |
Sorry, I have attacks of the respond to what's just in front of me on account of jet lag itis.
Almost slept through the night last night, so am feeling a bit fresher, but will probably respond properly assuming my brain is awake after lunch. Still operating on USA time in Norway, and there's a 50% chance round about noon here (3 in the morning back in CA) I cannot think in complete statements.
Sorin Nicusor |
No problem. It just would have seemed weird to me to have Sorin suddenly switch to the topic of wagon defense while expecting an answer to something else.
I have had the same problem of missing posts because I have a tab set up in my web browser which automatically takes me to the last page of the thread. But when a new page starts I have, on occasion, forgotten to go back and look at the last posts of the previous page.
Sorin Nicusor |
Oh, I understand. Sorin's frustrations aren't mine :)
Sorin's thinking is, in some ways, still very provincial. He's only left Varisia once, when he journeyed to Nirmathas to receive his Paladin training (where he was mostly surrounded by fellow Shelyn followers). Apart from that he's hardly even left Sandpoint. He lacks the context to really understand the life Lisabett has led though that is slowly changing. Lisabett's comments after the drinking match with Sandru affected Sorin quite a bit.
As for his attitude towards violence, that's the big thing. Where does the line between necessary/unnecessary violence begin and end? How and what are the best ways to "defend the innocent"? Sorin's never really had to ask himself those questions before. His current view of his Code is still fairly literal and he hasn't explored the subtleties of it yet because he's never had to.
@DM Hamied: This makes me wonder (as I've lost track) how much game time has actually passed since we started 11 months ago?
DM Hamied |
It's crazy that this game started nearly a year ago. Much less game time has passed. It has been approximately two and a half months, by my count. I'll pull the Golarion calendar out tomorrow and tell you which months have passed, but I got back in from a long day of traveling and am going to head to bed in very short order.
Sorin Nicusor |
Sorry to hear that; hope you feel better soon.
I've noticed over the last couple of pages that some of our posts have been marked as favorites. Are we really that fascinating? It can be fun to see how other groups play but I can't imagine ever finding the time to slog through 49 pages of someone elses game.
Sorin Nicusor |
It's on page 47, post 2333 if I've counted right. It was the same post where he asked her if she needed any help with Ulrick's burial (or whatever) and right before we saw the strange mist in the forest.
It was really just a way to roleplay-justify Sorin taking a rank in Spellcraft at 4th level. He's never going to learn spellcasting beause of his archetype and it really isn't the type of skill that you're going to wake up one day and suddenly "get it".
Lisabett Erikkson |
Ah yeah, that was 3 days before I left the states, and I think the same day I ran my last session of my Kingmaker game online, which was my party's assault on the Stag Lord's Fort. And there was the fog stuff. Sorry my brains were quite scattered then.
Assuming Lisabett can bring back some pork, she'll have a few things to say in camp while she burns Ulrick. Ulfen mourning without mead is not likely to be very pretty.
DM Hamied |
I like the enriching role-playing that happens day to day, but I am conscious that things are dragging. Would anybody object to me fast-forwarding?
It will certainly be necessary in this campaign, as you have a long way to go. I wanted to move more slowly at the outset to allow a party dynamic to develop, but we've been playing for a year now, and I might start to expedite things.
Sorin Nicusor |
That's fine with me. Though I haven't read this AP (or any of them for that matter) I do know that some parts of any type of module translate better to a PbP format than others. It's not like having a group of players around a table that can talk for 15 minutes before making a decision.
Which leads me to my next question: when we get to a dungeon, how should we handle things like, "Does the party turn left or right at the "T" intersection"?
