Elaine Holhiem was the child of a wealthy merchant family in Magnimar. The Holhiem’s had originally fled Chelax after the House of Thune rose to power, and there were some whispers that they were minor nobility that backed the wrong side. Elaine was a willful child, and as she grew older, she acted out more and more against her strict family (particularly her father). At age 16, she became pregnant, and the scandal forced her family to disown her.
Weeks later, Elaine turned up at the temple to Sarenrae, in the middle of having a difficult childbirth. Although the midwives did everything hey could, she still died giving birth to Raziel.
Elaine’s family would not take the child, and the child’s father was never determined.
Raziel Holhiem grew up poor in Magnimar. His family name was the only thing that his mother had left him, and the Holhiem’s were offended that he had the nerve to keep their name at all. As a ward of the temple, Raziel grew up training to become one of Sarenrae’s clerics. His skills with channeling were seen as a blessing from Sarenrae, but his attractiveness also proved to be less than a blessing. After a close scrape with a married woman intent on seducing him, the temple officials decided to send Raziel out of town (for his own good).
With the upcoming festival at Sandpoint and the rededication of the Cathedral, they decided to send him there to minister to those Sarenrae worshipers. So, with a letter of introduction, Raziel has set forth to Sandpoint, to work with the resident cleric of Desna, Father Zantus.
Raziel has worked his way into the fabric of daily life in Sandpoint since then. He has spent much of his free time learning common sense and wisdom (or maybe just listening to all her stories) from Niska Mvashti. before she died, she asked him for a favor, a favor he gladly granted, to watch over Niska's daughter Koya if she ever went on a journey.

Raziel had sort of adopted Niska and Koya as a surrogate mother and older sister, since he has no aknowledged family of his own. Part of his agreeing so readily to Niska's request was that Raziel also harbors a bit of curiosity about the rest of the world. Being a cleric of Sarenrae in the quiet city of Sandpoint is better than he would have hoped for as a child, but Raziel often wonders about the rest of the world that he might never see. This also drives his interest in the other NPCs.
Ameiko he sees as a kindred soul of sorts, she having also lost her parents to misfortune, and yet she shines so brightly. And she has been out adventuring!
Shalelu is exotic to him, someone who drifts in and out of Sandpoint, a lifestle he can't imagine (but he wonders what he might have been like if the church hadn't taken him in).
Sandru is another wanderer that he finds interest in, although Raziel isn't sure if he envies or admires him. To travel so far as a livelyhood, to see so much...

Build-wise, Raziel is designed for both offense (fire domain and his scimitar) and defense (healing domain and selective channeling). I would also add creating potions and wonderous items to his abilities later, as he gets more feats.
