Finaly the recruitment.
I think I'll go with a swindler rogue (that steals everything not nailed down or on fire ( but with the setting, she will carry a fire extinguisher and a crowbar ;) ))

Regarding the prospect of enchanting our guides in their jewelry forms, how would that affect something that requires attunement to function?

For example, I give my guide, who takes the form of a headband, the various features of a headband of vast intellect, which requires attunement to function. Now, while the guide is in its guide form, it would be perfectly reasonable that it isn't providing the headband benefits (because it isn't in the proper form and all), but would I have to constantly reattune it every time it shifts between forms?

Here's a question worth asking: If we take a Drawback, can it be different in our Social Identity and Magical Girl identities (i.e. I'm aiming for a straight-laced, eager-to-please workaholic 'girl,' and a "Hyde/Mask/Freakazoid to her Jekyll/Ipkiss/Dexter" uninhibited maniac 'magical girl', so the flaws of the two characters ought to be drastically different) - and might that in turn permit certain traits being different for each persona too?

Scarab Sages

Introducing...!

Upbeat, fast-paced female chorus backed by taiko drums and electronica covering montage of Shisōka's busy life:
Shirokuro Shisōka always wanted to be the very best!
"By oni she's driven!" Her schoolmasters all said!
WORK!FAMILY!CHORES!HONORS!SCHOOL! No time for her head!
Be polite! Work hard! Ask for nothing! That's how you get ahead!
Get your B.S.! M.S.! Ph.D! And stayed very very well-read!
Rocket to the top, and then keel over dead!
Never leave the window open for existential dread....

Cut to Shisōka's bedroom; Whispered Narration:

She woke up one day, bright and early as always, but the morning was dark
A handsome little bat flew in the window, and to her, he said:

Jiko-Ninshiki spoken word:

"Can you see me at last? I've always been there."
"I'm the tic in your cheek, I'm the stubborn knot in your hair."
"When's the last time you checked to see if YOU were still there?"
"You'd have the world devour you, and say you don't care."
"Have you ever stopped to wonder if it was...fair?"
"You work and achieve, but what is your goal?"
"What profit the world at the price of your soul?"
"A wise man said, 'to thine own self be true.'"
"Allow me to introduce myself: I am Jiko-Ninshiki - True Self - and, well, why don't I just show you...?"

Jiko-Ninshiki shifts to mirror form and floats up to Shisōka's anxious face....

Transformation sequence!

Women's Chorus with sweeping pipe organ, and Japanese and Indian electronica in background
OBSIDIAN STAAAAAR!!!!!
Black Sun looking down on a wicked world!

OBSIDIAN STAAAAAR!!!!!

The true face of genius in a world too small!

OBSIDIAN STAAAAAR!!!!!

The joke is on all of Mortalkind!
The unworthy have had their day....
Too long the mice have played...
...but one cat, at least is no longer away.

OBSIDIAN STAAAAAR!!!!!

The headband would NOT need be constantly reattuned.

Sweet. Totally gonna grab two drawbacks and two traits to toss on Vinda. :-D

An old manor house sits in a wooded mountain valley. A thick blanket of snow covers everything.

Suddenly a large, upper-story window explodes outward, a dark-haired young lady falling out amidst the shards of glass. She lands in a roll, and is off running as soon as she is up on her feet.

As she disappears into the forest, we see a dark figure looking out of the broken window. In one hand he grips a bloody curved sword, while the other supports the limp body of an older man. A fresh wound cuts across his right eye.

The dark haired girl runs through the forest, a sheathed sword clutched in one hand.

She stops, finding herself surrounded by three maniacally grinning ruffians. They charge her, and are cut down in three flashes of the young lady's sword. Their bodies hit the ground simultaneously.

The girl turns, and locks gaze with a small black cat.

The wind picks up, blowing an obscuring flurry of snow across the scene.

When it clears, only the bodies remain.

Introducing Namae Aldori, swordlord and paladin of vengeance. Her inheritance has been stolen by her treacherous cousin, a cultist of Norgorber. She hopes that the House of Unyielding Radiance can give her the strength to cleanse her home of evil.

Aid Other for activating Combo special attacks? Mmm...not really the right mechanic. If a character is expending class feature limited ability stuff, Aid Other would be too easy to leverage since it is a static number DC. It needs to be more along the lines of simultaneous actions with either certain conditions like specific positioning on the map, double expenditure of limited use abilities, critical confirmations, spending longer (making the ability used go from a move to a standard or standard to full), or something that shows it's extra effort to coordinate.

There is a feat in Pathfinder Player Companion: Blood of the Elements called Elemental Commixture which seems to have the sort of effect you want. If you and an ally both cast an elemental spell then you can combine them, increasing the caster level and adding a secondary effect depending on the elemental mixture.

Lots of stuff is killing my free time in real life, so I am going to bow out of the recruitment. It's a shame, because I was looking forward to this one.Looks like a great pool of candidates anyway! Happy gaming!

Is this recruitment thread still open? Because I might have this sort of Ragna-Esque character that might fit into a Kill La Kill-esque setting. What do we have here so far?

I believe Tux is keeping the recruiting open until the end of the month or so. We also have some glorious fun already going in the gameplay thread if you want to get a feel for how the game is shaping up (or join he mayhem).

I think I'll take you up on that offer :)

Recruitment will officially close on the 31st - Tuesday.

Oh, this looks like it's going to be a good one. I'm going to have to get in on this.

Here's my character:

Luna carefully finishes her mask. She smiles at her new addition to her costume as her alter-identity. Now, she'll be able to kick butt and look fashionable at the same time.

Eager to try it out, Luna snatches it up and with a swish, she magically changes her outfit to her heroine costume. Putting on the mask, Luna makes a pose.

Suddenly, a creature appears on her desk with a pop. The fox delivers a message. She's been invited to the newest school around: the House of Unyielding Radiance.

With a squeal, Luna jumps in place and shouts out, "Yes!"

~~Theme Music Begins~~

Luna is an actual Vigilante/Magical Girl class. She wields both a rapier and utility spells.

Since there is the Mystical Talking Acceptance Letter template for each character despite class, can my character still use the Vigilante Specialization class ability, since that is what the magical child replaces it with?

I was at a con this weekend and got a picture commissioned of Chocola. This is Chocola and Petro.

I'll have a better scan of it as soon as I get home.

Nice. Love the sword she has, and especially how she's holding it so casually.

Yeah me too. And the sloth is so sweet. I had another one done but they didnt finish it today so she is going to mail it to me.
Here is the scan. I had to darken it a bit but it still looks good.

Oooo, very, very nice. The sloth is adorable now that I can see it better. Just glad the picture's silent. Wanting no audio commentary from Petro.

Hehe yeah. Just love from him, no screaming. Though it would make an awesome piece for him to be yelling at her. :P

Grand Lodge

That is awesome!! I've tried sketching out Shona a few times, but I'm not the most talented artist. Ah well.

Silver Crusade

Wow, just watching this. But I have to say I see so many interesting characters.

I wonder if there is someone that might figure out how to make a Ranma type of character... >.>

Yup.

Awesome. I have pics of Luna, but I didn't make them (though I did edit them).

So here's the plan: later today I'll throw up a list with all the completed submissions to make sure I haven't missed anyone, and then tomorrow recruitment will close so that I can work out the final cast of characters (which will be no easy task considering the current submissions).

So excited to see who makes this!

Thanks, Tux, for opening the thread early for the roleplay to happen. I think it's awesome that we've all gotten the chance to enjoy our characters whether they become the stars of the show or not.

So glad I didn't miss recruitment for this. I'm just glad I had left the tab open with the last thread about this, heh. Anyways, here is my submission.

Slightly.

here would be mine:

There once was a maiden, living on Cassomir's streets,
owning nothing but what quick wits, deft fingers and a devils spade could get her,
she was the girl with the coat full of contraband, that had everytihng for a price.
Fate had it that one day, lead by her lonly heart, she stole a cat,
that to her great surprise complained rather elaborately,
but made her an offer to good to refuse,
"become a magical girl and nothing will be out of your reach,
even the stars in the sky"
So Alyza packted her coat and started her journey to become,
Radiant star thief.

Darkvision (Ex) Range 60 ft.; Darkvision is the extraordinary ability to see with no light source at all, out to a range specified for the creature. Darkvision is black and white only (colors cannot be discerned). It does not allow characters to see anything that they could not see otherwise-invisible objects are still invisible, and illusions are still visible as what they seem to be. Likewise, darkvision subjects a creature to gaze attacks normally. The presence of light does not spoil darkvision.

Skilled (Ex) Tieflings have a +2 racial bonus on Bluff and Stealth checks.

Ah, I thought I was missing someone. Edited in.

I'm happy I wasn't too late ;) , thank you

Aaaand I'm just waiting to see who gets picked. XD

I just got home from a convention to learn there's been pre-game roleplay already... very sorry I missed that, hope it won't hurt my chances for consideration...

Since I didn't get even one response to my request for which of my three concepts to run with, I agonized for many days to finally go with my Master Summoner concept, Murielle Carcosa.

I am in the same boat with some others in that I didn't want to jump into the roleplay with an alias as I have been burned before with other recruitments and have a stable of aliases which were never used for the games they were intended. I also do not want to see my main alias listed in the character thread nor its silly face whenever I try to roleplay a shy little girl...it just wouldn't work for me. So hopefully the preferential treatment won't be too high for those with alias slots to burn. :P

That being said, Murielle's background is fairly simple. As mentioned before (with some expanded details) she is from a prestigious god-caller family that traces its roots back to a line from fallen Sarkosis. They currently lend their efforts in helping to stem the tide of the Worldwound and see that much of their powers are passed on to their children, so they believe in large family. She is seen as a bit of a disappointment as her eidolon is not nearly as powerful as her many siblings (queue unexpected complications from sisters and brothers showing up in varying degrees of familial love, rivalry, or dislike).

For a great while Murielle was unable to produce an eidolon at all...no outsider seemed to want her. Secretly she always held back, but when her favorite older brother fell unconscious into a river, suddenly she found the will and the strength to fully bring an eidolon to Golarion. When Fenrir, her eidolon, finally did arrive, he came with quite a surprise. Fenrir had been contacted by a powerful mystic across the planes from the House of Unyielding Radiance, and that if Murielle ever succeeded in a full summoning of an eidolon, she was to be sent to the HoUR when she is old enough. And so she has.

queue intro music

Images of Murielle when she first summoned Fenrir are first. Fenrir looks wise and surprisingly colorful for a wolfish/foxish creature. Sigils and glyphs associated with summoning bounce around the sides of the screen while the music bursts into full swing.

Next are images of Murielle at school. In one she slips and falls dropping her books and papers, one of the other PCs helps her up and smiles at her while tears pool but don't run in her eyes.

Now she is sitting on Fenrir as she and the other PCs are in heated combat, and Murielle saves one of them by suddenly bringing forth a pair of devas in full high school band costume to intercept the manticore bearing down on that PC. (That clip is from episode 24...or maybe just a dream sequence. ;-D)

The music playing the whole time is mostly upbeat with some light Jpop vocals singing a song about a brighter tomorrow starts with being brighter ourselves.

The whole sequence ends with Murielle attempting to summon Fenrir but when he arrives so do a multitude of other summoned creatures all cute and cuddly who jump on a wailing Murielle while Fenrir laughs.

Freeze scene.

Grand Lodge

For those who haven't been role-playing, I wouldn't worry about any potential unfair treatment. The slight advantage here is most likely just a larger sample size to see what the character is like and how they interact. If you have done your job with creating a solid background and given a good writing sample in presenting your character, I'd imagine you'll be just fine :=)

Recruitment is officially closed!

Selecting the final party is taking longer than I thought - there's just a lot of good stuff for me to look over. I'd like to say I'll have my final picks done by today, but tomorrow looks more likely.

Good luck, everyone!

Grand Lodge

So excited to see who gets picked!
Best of luck, all, and it's been a joy role-playing in the gameplay thread with those of you who took advantage of that :=)

Fun way to fluff the selection process would be to have those picked enter an advanced class set at the HoUR, while the rest are consigned to the regular classes. Then, if a slot opens up and an existing application is chosen to fill it, you can just fluff as the student getting moved up to the best classes :D.

Cant wait to see who gets picked. Good luck everyone!

Good luck everyone. It's been a pleasure roleplaying with you all

Luck all.

Good luck everyone! I'm very excited for this game!

*Pops some popcorn and passes it around*

It should be fun to see how this goes. XD

*Takes offered popcorn*

I feel anxious, excited, and impatient all at once.

*Chows down on said popcorn to calm nerves*

--Good luck to all, especially you,
TuxedoShmacked.

I was thinking something similar, except I kind of wanted to draw all the characters that don't make the cut in detention together. :B
