Race a djinni, wrestle a shaitan, outwit an efreeti. Only then can one gain admittance to the Houses of:
Unfolding Wind!
Untwisting Iron!
Unblinking Flame!

For the past 2,000 years, the isle of Jalmeray has been home to the three most prestigious fighting schools in all of Golarion. Collectively known as the Houses of Perfection, these three high schools (often mistakenly referred to as monasteries) remain unchallenged in their dominance over both fighting technique and secondary education.

Until now! Rather suddenly, a fourth House of Perfection has mysteriously appeared - the House of Unyielding Radiance! Rejecting the traditionally "impossible" entrance requirements of the other Houses, a mysterious entity known as "The Omnesiac" sends out invitations to the House of Unyielding Radiance via magical spirit guides to those who are pure of heart and strong of soul.

Today is the day YOU begin your career at the House of Unyielding Radiance. Having freshly arrived on the island of Jalmeray, it's time to make new friends, pick classes, not lose your way, learn to vanquish your foes with your awesome might (and the power of friendship), and most importantly protect your school (and the world!) from the inevitably encroaching forces of darkness!

As mentioned in this thread, I'll be running a "magical child academy" game in the vein of Kill la Kill or Sailor Moon. Before I commit to a full campaign, however, I'll be running a single self-contained adventure at the House of Unyielding Radiance - a pilot episode, if you will.

-Character Creation-
Starting Level: 2
Starting Wealth: 1,000 gp
Ability Scores: 25 point buy
Races: Any core, featured, uncommon, or reasonable rp Paizo races
Classes: Everything Paizo, chained and unchained
Hit Points: Max per HD
Alignment: Non-evil
Traits: 2, no campaign traits, drawback for a third
Monologues: are always a free action.
Automatic Bonus Progression: Should the game continue past 2nd level, automatic bonus progression will be in effect.
Electives: In lieu of background skills, you will receive 2 extra skill ranks per level which must be spent on "elective skills," representing what you've learned in class between adventures. The elective skill list consists of the class skill list for the Magical Child Vigilante archetype. These skills are not automatically class skills.

Elective Skills:
Acrobatics (Dex), Appraise (Int), Bluff (Cha), Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (arcana, dungeoneering, local, planes) (Int), Perform (Cha), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Sense Motive (Wis), Sleight of Hand (Dex), Spellcraft (Int), Stealth (Dex), Swim (Str), and Use Magic Device (Cha)

The Magical Child Template: Instead of limiting characters to the Vigilante class, everyone will receive the following abilities as if acquired from a template.
Magical Child Abilities:
Gratuitous Garment Generation Sequence: The Magical Child gains the Dual Identity ability as well as the Transformation Sequence ability. Social talents may be granted as rewards to the group as a whole later in the game.
Mystical Talking Acceptance Letter: All potential entrants to HoUR are notified via a mystical, shape-shifting spirit animal sent to guide them back to the school. Even after arriving at the academy, these spirit guides will continue to serve characters in the form of a familiar. This functions as the Animal Guide ability with a few changes. Firstly, the spirit guide is always capable of speaking common, even before gaining the Speak with Master ability. Secondly, instead of having separate social/vigilante identities, the spirit guide can transform between its normal form and that of a specific inanimate accessory (usually a piece jewelry) as a move action. Familiar archetypes may be taken. Any class that receives a familiar normally has their familiar replaced by the spirit guide.
Sword That Will Pierce The Heavens! (optional): Players may choose to reduce their character's size to small with no ability adjustments. Regardless, any small characters always wield weapons as though they were one size larger.

Backgrounds: Instead of a traditional background (or in addition, if you're so inclined), all I want is a short vignette that might run before the opening theme song of the first episode of the HoUR tv show to introduce the audience to your character. Specifics are up to you - it could be before, after, or even during the visit from the spirit guide. The setting is Golarion, but feel free to change up and "magical girlify" anything outside of Jalmeray to suit your character concepts.
Administrative Stuff: I'll select 4-6 characters (leaning towards 4 right now to keep the pacing tight). Be able to post at least once a day. I work on weekends so I will post then, but you don't have to. When maps are necessary they'll be on Roll20. Recruitment will probably end at the end of the month.

HoUR Episode 1: New Students Orientation Field Trip!
Hello and welcome dear viewers to House of Unyielding Radiance! I'll be your headmaster and guide, The Omnesiac. What's that you say? Don't I mean "amnesiac?" Not at all! Amnesiacs, remember nothing, whereareas I remember EVERYTHING - hence, The Omnesiac. What do you mean, how does that work? I'm obviously not going to reveal such precious information in the teaser for Episode 1, no, no, no!
Anyhow, it's orientation day and it looks like a handful of students are running late. Oh, how I do loathe protagonists sometimes. When they arrive, there's probably just going to be some type of scene where they introduce themselves and become lifelong friends and reveal a bunch of useless expository information. Some other plot critical characters like the Elite Four should show up too.
However, fear not dear viewers! To save you all from boredom, I'm going to devise a deliciously dangerous but optional New Students Orientation Field Trip; which is not optional for any students late to orientation! You can thank me later.

wow. i'm more interested in this then I probably should be... so many ideas swirling. One questions for now (probably the first of many): if we take a class that grants an animal companion do we have two pets, or could we use the separate identity ability to have our spirit guide transform into an animal companion instead of a piece of jewelry?

edit: second question already, if we take a class that lets us pick between a familiar or a bonded item can we take the bonded item and have that and the spirit guide? what about a blade bound magus (which normally cannot have a familiar even from another source)?

Animal companions I'll leave up to you, you can have them work either way.

Having a bonded item and a familiar is okay as well, bladebound magus included.

Working my submission up into a profile now. I'm so glad this is getting off the ground!

So this certainly sounds amusing, sounds like the sort of game where you could take a couple spins on the TVtropes page and come out with some interesting if contradictory concepts.

So what themes do you intend to primarily draw on for this game? Making a character that fits with the general thrust of the world is going to be easier if we know what you intend for that world.
Ex: the sort of character I'd make for a game influenced by say, Madoka is going to vastly different from something fueled by Kill la kill or sailor moon.

I'm not asking for a spoiler but it would be good to know how much nightmare fuel this setting is going to have.
Looking at your interest thread there was some comments on Kill as a bar for that, it would be good to know if thats changed since you were interested in doing this.

Kill la Kill is still where the bar is set, that's probably going to have the single biggest influence on the tone of the campaign.

Crippled in an accident as a child, Shizu was cast aside and left to fend for herself... until the day a magical rabbit appeared before her and asked her to attend the House of Unyielding Radiance. Now, as Radiant Pink, she fights for truth, love, and friendship... and tries to keep her grades up at the same time.

*Submits this character with a completely straight face*

Inspiration and Ideas:
The behind this character is "a disabled girl who is nevertheless competent in social settings, and can use magic to transform and fight when need be". I haven't hammered out the exact mechanics, but I'm thinking something like half land speed in her normal form.

Synth Summoner is pretty strong to begin with, so I've deliberately chosen a less-than-optimal selection of abilities. That should keep them nicely in line with others. Otherwise, Shizu is kind of a "Class President" type of character - intelligent and charismatic, but given her physical issues, often in need of help. XD

Backstory: Shona is the youngest child of a Varisian merchant named Jamifar and his wife Sylvar. Jamifar, a native of the Varisian city of Magnimar, serves on the Council of Ushers: a group overrun with self-indulging nobles and greedy power-seekers. Jamifar, however, is a man consumed with doing good and making a positive difference. He would be a great role model for his young daughter...if he wasn't at work so much.
Sylvar spends much of her time tending to Jamifar's mercantile interests since he is so often busy with Council business. That is largely why Shona was raised by numerous members of the household staff.
Shona's personality has always been of a bright and outgoing nature. Her large smile, red hair, and bright green eyes have always quickly endeared her to people. Because of this, she grew up with continual praise for how lovely an sweet she was. This helped develop her complete lack of humility. It's not to say that Shona is vain in any way, she just doesn't understand that compliments aren't something commonplace and she expects that everyone is just naturally inclined towards adoring her.
As Shona grew older, her parents (in the moments they were around their youngest daughter) decided that she was a great beauty, but needed to develop more skills. Therefore, they enrolled her in training for dance. Her instructor began by trying to teach her to do traditional Varisian dances using ribbons. Shona had no real interest in the dance steps themselves, but took immediately to the snap, swirling, and manipulating of the ribbons. In no time at all, she was wielding them as weapons with which to trip the other dancers as they'd move across the floor and having a great time as this would induce light hearted chasing and playing. Her instructors were not as pleased with this, and her dance training ended...mere hours after it had begun.
As her family worshipped Calistria, and the whip is the deity's favored weapon, they presented her with the scorpion whip that had been in Sylvar's family for generations and turned to the Calistrian church as a place for their daughter to learn a skill. While she was learning training with the whip, Shona was also picking up on the subtle art of manipulation. She was quickly building a large repertoire of social understanding which helped her to be even more effective in getting her way...not that she needed much help.
Shona's comfortable and pampered life included being a kind and caring younger sibling, a generous member of the society helping the underprivileged, and a lot of positive attention. It also featured impulse control issues and a lack of social tact. It was not an uncommon scene to see Shona wander through town waving at strangers as though she were a celebrity nor to see her walk into a room with boys present and strike a pose while calling out, "Hello, boys!"
Things changed for Shona on the day that a thrush landed on her windowsill. It perched there staring at the girl who greeted it with, "Hello, Mr. Thrush! I'll bet you've never seen anyone as beautiful as me, have you?" The thrush, after giving what sounded like a sigh, responded with, "Unfortunately, the school does not give classes on learning humility." Rather than being caught off guard that a bird was speaking intelligently to her, Shona replied with, "A school? Are there boys there?!?!?"

*Coughs* I don't make aliases before characters are accepted - gotta cut down on alias bloat as much as I can, y'know? - but I'll certainly be keeping an eye on things. XD

Chocola was walking through the park on a totally ordinary day in spring, admiring the flora and fauna as she passed, her ears perky and alert on the top of her head. She so enjoyed these types of days. Look! There was a deer! And a sunflower! Oh what a wonderful day until a creature fell on her. She let out a shrill scream as its body contacted with her face, causing her to fall on her butt. ”What the heck?!” Looking down at her lap, she found the creature was a sloth. ”Oh, hello little guy! You must have mistaken your arm for a branch and fal-”

”CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE BEEN INVITED TO ATTEND THE HOUSE OF UNYIELDING RADIANCE! THE NEWEST AND MOST PRESTIGIOUS FIGHTING SCHOOL!”

Chocola’s ears folded as the creature screamed at her and she let out a frightened shout. ”Yo- you can talk!” She pushed the sloth off of her and scooted away. ”How can you talk?!”

”I’M YOUR SPIRIT GUIDE! THE KEY TO YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL! DO NOT BE AFRAID! I WILL NOT HURT YOU!” Its uncharacteristically masculine voice rang in her ears. Was anyone else seeing this? She looked around, blushing, but saw no one was around. ”Keep your voice down! Do you need to yell?”

”I WILL SHOW YOU THE WAY TO VICTORY, CHOCOLA! JUST COME TO THE SCHOOL WHERE YOUR POTENTIAL CAN BE REACHED!” Backing away a little farther, she sighed. ”You can’t be serious! I’m supposed to drop everything and come with you to this fighting school?”

”YOU WILL GET THE FINEST TRAINING AVAILABLE TO UNLOCK YOUR HIDDEN TALENTS! COME ON NOW! DON’T MAKE ME BEG YOU! YOU’LL GET POWER! GLORY! YOU’LL TRAVEL! ALL IN THE NAME OF GOOD!”

Chocola sighed. ”Okay okay! If you’ll stop yelling I’ll check it out…” It seemed he wasnt taking no for an answer… Suddenly, he dematerialized, the particles that once made up his body moving fast towards her neck. Again, she made a startled yelp, but it did not hurt her. Where there was once bare flesh, there was now a lovely choker with a bell on it. ”Just like this sloth, to be something loud… Wait! How do I get there!! Come back!!”

After seeing the Sword That Will Pierce The Heavens! ability I think this is a good reason to allow Dreamscarred Press's Soulknife. ^-^

I have a few ideas for this I'll be mulling over soon.

Background skills are from Unchained.

Traditional background refers to the usual character origin/history bit.

Thanks. I just wasn't sure since he didn't mention the "adventuring skills" part of the Unchained anywhere. Also, as Ultimate Campaign has a background system, I wanted to be clear since that system can be used to make trait requirements if that is what the GM had in mind.

Broodmaster and master summoner are fine. In a PbP with block style intiative they shouldn't really slow down combat, which is the only problem I have with the summon-y characters.

Scarab Sages

Can anyone with a copy of the Magic Tactics Toolbox on hand do me the following favor as soon as possible: Send me a PM with a transcription of the Havoker Witch Archetype (I'm on vacation for the next 2 weeks-ish, and left my copy of that at home, and it doesn't appear to have been put up online anywhere yet)? It may be good for my character concept for this.

So a very brief set of hooks for my intended character, Kayin Ashok, to act as a teaser while I grind out the stats and background.

Kitsune warrior-scholar (fighter with lore warden archetype) with a penchant for mucking about with lost lore that lost for a damn good reason (Dangerously Curious, Forbidden Knowledge, and Seeker traits).

Some brief, and incredibly risky, experimentation got the artifact to do something before it crumbled to dust in his hands. He soon enough discovered that he gained the ability to cast spells, along with some other intriguing knowledge. He also discovered that he was the newest recipient of a long-buried curse attached to the artifact (oracle with the dual-cursed and warsighted archetypes, wrecking mysticism and haunted curses, and Tainted Spirit drawback). With the artifact reduced to a fine powder and scattered by the wind, he was left with no way to undo the effects.

Receiving his invitation to HoUR, he established a somewhat adversarial relationship with his spirit guide, who considers him to be a window-licking moron due to his habit of messing with things better left alone, a habit which he continued to indulge during the voyage to Jalmeray. For his own part, he sees his spirit guide as a stuffy, uptight bore who really needs to get that tonfa dislodged, loosen up, and live a little. (His spirit guide wishes to point out that if his brain-dead charge would just stop f#cking with things, he could live a lot, which is the far better choice.)

His human appearance is that of a stereotypical bishounen, and that combined with his slender physique has led him to getting all sorts of propositions that he really doesn't want from people mistaking his gender or orientation (or both, in a rare few instances), a fact which amuses his spirit guide to no end. At the same time, his own attempts to pursue relationships consistently meet with failure, sometimes for the most unlikely of reasons; one girl had multiple personalities, of which only one actually liked him, another girl turned out to be violently allergic to foxes, and yet a third wasn't a girl at all, but one of his more persistent male suitors in disguise.

The effects of his oracle curses have given him a reputation as a klutz, because he always seems to be tripping over or falling down something, dropping something, getting hit by falling objects, and so on, though he never seems to get seriously injured during these incidents.

His heroic identity is Karma, the mysterious fox-tailed, masked, and rapier-wielding avenger of wrongs.

I'm going to go with the sorcerer (sylvan). A male. In my student identity I'll be short and chubby and best friends with all the cutest girls because he's sweet and funny (and so far into the friend-zone it would take the light from romantic interest 40 years to reach him). His transformed persona is tall and fit and incredibly handsome, and all the girls have a bit of a crush on him.

<-- nate lange's submission

Are we allowed to have any mechanical differences between our personae? I would like my hero persona to be obviously an Aasimar (with otherworldly grace and beauty) but my student persona to seem completely human... Can I take the scion of humanity racial alternative, but only in student form? Also, I'm taking perform[comedy] to be the class clown (so girls will talk to me)- could I have that switch to perform[sing] in hero form and have sometimes singing his monologues be a quirk?

"Oh my Goddess! Freshman Shelyn scout squire 3rd class reporting for duty sir!" *Blush* Wow, the GM is really dreamy. "Er, well um, almost reporting for duty. This is my Pathfinder Society uniform sir. While it has all the flavor, it doesn't have all of the mechanics sir."

Apollyanna's greatest hits from Siege of Serpents - We sort of accidentally began the game with 4 of the 6 characters being worshipers of Shelyn (2 paladins, a cleric and a gnome illusionist). There was an older (late 20's) monk and a ratty (charisma 7) elf in the party too.

Originally she was going to be a paladin with the Chosen One archetype but the game ended up being CORE which just meant see would get a pony for 4th level.

It's a beautiful day at the fair gracing the campus of the Pathfinder Society's Grand Lodge when suddenly disaster and spoilers strike!

A day at the fair.

When evil rears its ugly head.

To the rescue!

Out of the frying pan into the fire!

Pestering ancient evils into leaving.

The horse she hopes to own one day (around 4th level).

She has a wand of cure light wounds too.

I do have a second character concept but he's just in the concept stage right now.

Pinning for developing PC. Thinking Witch/Ninja Tiefling or elemental race like genasi.

Decided to go with Suli/Elemenal Knight. Question when it comes to electives is that instead of the class skills?

Nope. The elective skill thing replaces the background skills from Unchained. You get your class skills as normal and two skill ranks that indicate what you're learning about when you're not out being all heroic.

Thanks !!!

Narly's opening:

Some time somewhere on Iovo, Narly wakes to the senseless tune of his alarm. The skull-white moon is out watching from an uncomfortably close position along the horizon. Narly pulls the shade. He gets up stretches and plods off toward the shower.

Later he rolls down the big entry hall stairs on his board with skates on it grinding the hell out of the banister. And pulling a chandelier chiming leap to avoid the nob at the end. His family calls after him from the kitchen. But Narly somehow already has a corner of toast stuck in his mouth. He kicks his board forward and out the door into the queer reflected moonlight.

The world thrums like an unbalanced dryer in the basement. He doesn't hear it though.

School is over. The day ends. It's black and silent out when Narly finally returns home. Gravity doesn't seem to be working as well for the rest of the world as it does for him. Odd kitchen utensils, bunch of pencils and vase full of garden flowers hang lazily in the rather sparse air. Narly takes no notice. He's exhausted. The family is out ('Typical.') so he trudges up the broad stairs to his room with his skating board beneath his arm. He slams his door behind him and sags onto his bed causing it to land. Next to him above the desk is a bit of damp mail. He looks at it a moment before snatching it and tearing it open. He absently tips out what appears to be a gasping pufferfish reads the slightly moist and perforated form letter inside.

Then after a moment he says: "Really? That dump?"

Of course Gailen remembers all this I'm sure. Hey again Gailen! *Waves madly at Gailen's player who for good reason pretends not to notice*

That said I'm trying to get into more games with that group and those characters and playing Apollyanna in two games simultaneously might get weird so I think I'll stick with Narly unless you figure him to be a bit too over the top, though he certainly fills an archetype of the genre--bad ass delinquent with his own personal problems that will no doubt be revealed in some protracted battle involving multiple transformations and startling revelations about people's past lives and families.
