So I was reading the adventure paths and I purchase every book for hells Rebels and ordered part 1 of hell's vengeance and pre-ordered all the other parts.

That got me thinking of something I tried a few years ago in 3.5. A play by post campaign in two separate treads one party good the other evil and competing for similar goals until finally both groups meet in an epic confrontation.

Now what I'm thinking if the following scenario: A rebellion sparks in Cheliax and quickly spreads. At the same time a new knightly order called the Glorious Reclamation seeks to purge Cheliax of its diabolical taint by overthrowing the House of Thrune and reclaiming the country for its people in the name of Iomedae.

A group of good-aligned pc's get involved at first as rebels and then as crusaders.

A group of evil aligned pc's work as agents for the House of Thrune and work in the shadows to put and end to the rebels and impede the Glorious Reclamation as much as possible as the Cheliaxian army works in the open to crush all opposition.

If this is something you would be interested in let me know and we can start looking at getting it set up.

Now the adventure would start level 3. 28 point buy for character stats. No 3rd party stuff allowed.

I'm a little too busy right now and I need to prep some stuff so I'm looking on getting it started on April 4th.

I'm interested. I've got characters for both sides as needed.

I'm interested. I haven't read any of the Hell's Angels material yet and I can play a character on either side, though I think I'd prefer working for Thrune. I'll prep a character concept hopefully tonight, depending on what time I get off of work.

Dark Archive

I'm yer huckleberry.

(I have no idea what that actually means, but I've always wanted to say it and somehow it seems appropriate. =)

I'm interested. Count me in as a rebel.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I could see this ending up with some awesome situations. Like forcing both groups to work together because of a greater enemy or having a character switch sides. It's the rebel's life for me though! Although... I would be interested in playing a character who starts on the side of Cheliax and becomes a rebel.

This sounds interesting! I'd be up for either group, but I'd prefer to be evil.

Liberty's Edge

I'm very interested. I do have to warn you, I've seen similar concepts attempted and it takes serious DMing chops to make it work. Anything designed around a competitive concept like this requires extreme effort. I was involved DMing in one called Loom of Fate and every PvP encounter ended in hurt feelings and folks feeling like they'd been cheated.

I'm all in on agent of House Thrune side! This character specifically, possibly a couple of others as needed.

Kewl. I can create a new character. I'd be up for either side

Looks like we have plenty of interest. I'm still trying to figure how to set it up. Last time I did this was on a site called Salroth were I was able to have multiple treads in the same campaign which made it easy to have separate parties in the same game.

my last pvp game if your interested:

The last campaign I ran had both groups competing for fragments on a powerful artefact (kinda like the shattered star campaign). The evil side got the first kill around the time both groups were level 7 by purchasing three scrolls of lesser planar ally and summoning three bearded devils and leaving them to ambush the good party after claiming an artefact first (they had become aware another group was after the same thing previously).

There were no more deaths after that for a while even after one direct confrontation that had to be cut short as the building was coming down around them and eventually the evil party came across a staff of power which the wizard wanted to claim but everyone else wanted to sell so the wizard took the staff and teleported away leaving the evil party.

Honestly I was shocked it took that long before evil party

The evil wizard then tipped off the good party of the plans of the rest of the evil party which led to them being ambushed by the good party at the site of the final fragment and being nearly wiped out and then the evil mage tried to ambush the good party with some minions of his own) succeeding in killing two of them but ultimately being forced to retreat. In the end only those three members were still alive but good got all the fragments and won the game and we ended it there.

Even so nobody really complained and all had a good time.

The whole thing lasted like two years of real life time and a few months in game going from level 1 to 14-15.

Feel free to throw me some character concepts.

On the side of evil I definitely want an inquisitor and I'd like someone who is interested in becoming a diabolist or an assassin.

For good a divine caster or paladin of Cayden Cailean would be neat or a follower of Sarenrae. All in all make what you want but I will be choosing characters to try and make an interesting an diverse cast of characters on both sides.

Background story is a big plus.

Also starting wealth is 3000 gold.

This character covers your request of Inquisitor, but I can offer up an assassin as well if it works out that another Inquisitor is preferential. I'm just as happy to play either, so I don't have a preference. Here's the link:

Aloysia Sett

I've been wanting to play a diabolist for a while now, so sign me up for that. I'll come up with a concept in the next few days.

Color me curious.

I would like to hear more about character creation. What races and classes would be allowed? Are variant heritages allowed? Traits/drawbacks?

I would be very interested in playing a diabolist. Summoning and binding is one of my favorite ways to build a character and I've been itching for a good game that lets me delve into the other planes.

However I don't want to bash heads with other players if there isn't a ton of interest. I've also always wanted to give the assassin class a try.

How big will each party be?

My main ideas are a good Halfling arcanist and an evil Human Mesmerist. Let me know if either class is banned.

Depending on interest 4-6 players, most likely 6 each.

I am not banning any specific classes or races at this time.

Variant heritage sure.

2 traits and sure 1 drawback for a third trait if you want.

How would you feel about a Bladebound Magus? I'd really like to build one but I don't want to give you something else you have to manage.

I'm going to draw up a strix oracle of Zon-Kuthon for the evil party.

Antuok of the Fen wrote:

Why would the Strix fight for Cheliax? They hate Cheliax.

I also have a CN Psychic for the good guys.

I'm fine with a bladebound magus I've had a few in my games before.

Alright so for now just post applications like so:

Faction: Rebel or Enforcer
Character name:
Class: (variant or future prestige class if applicable)
Background (can be as long or as short as you want)

Feel free to post a full character sheet in a spoiler tag if you went ahead and made one.

Application:

Faction: Enforcer
Character name: Tic Douloureux
Class: Inquisitor - deity Zon-Kuthon
Background/Full Character Sheet: Douloureux

Faction: Rebel
Character name: Freya Solheim
Class: Arcanist
Background:

Spoiler:
Freya was born to a small Halfling family in the metropolis of Almas. Her parents had emigrated to Androan to escape slavery and build a better life for themselves. The name Solheim was picked after the captain who brought them safely to their new home when she could have just as easily sold them elsewhere. Her parents found work at an orphanage where they raised Freya along with many children of many races. Life was happy and more or less uneventful for Freya until she was 16.

It was then a few men in fanciful robes walked through the slums of Almas looking for teenagers of magical talent. When Freya passed their test, the wizards pressured her parents to get her to attend the Almas Academy (Home of the Fightin' Eagles!) Her family was sorry to see her go but thought it was the best chance she had of having a better life. Freya came home for every holiday and wrote to them often so they were never truly apart from each other.

Her time at the university was still some of the best in her life. Though classes were dull and the teachers generally unsympathetic, her fellow students more than made up for it. Her non-threatening appearance and jovial personality gained many friends and more than a few lovers. The university was split along school lines. Though there were no rules against fraternization between different specialists, rooming, classes, and many extracurriculars were determined based on what school you preferred. Freya was an Evoker all the way even if she had some flair for conjuration (mostly at opening up pits for people to fall into.) She was known as the life of the party among her fellow Evokers who were already considered to be the wildest Wizards.

When school was done, she decided to explore her self-taught path in the larger world and perhaps gain more knowledge of other practitioners. Her travels have taken her to the Lion's Den of Cheliax. Inspired by the Captain Solheim who freed her parents, she wants to give other halflings the same chance at freedom and happiness that her family got. She is optimistic as always but not stupid. She knows that she can't save everyone and that she needs friends. The next group she joins will find a powerful mage and a fast friend in Freya Solheim.

Questions though before I finalize the sheet. How are we doing HP? How do you feel about Background Skills and/or Automatic Bonus Progression?

Application:

Faction: Enforcer
Character name: Aloysia Sett
Class: Rogue (Knife Master) going Assassin prestige as soon as pre-reqs are met
Background and Full Character Sheet: Aloysia Sett

Faction: Enforcer
Character name: Samuel Hutchinson
Class: Mesmerist
Background:

Spoiler:
Samuel Hutchinson does not exist. That is to say that he was not born with that name. His mother was a laundress turned street thief/beggar. She was once employed by a noble house but was forced to flee. He had to scrape from the bottom to survive. When he was 14, he discovered his power: he could invade people's minds and make them like him more. He used this get more than what he usually got. This gave him a very small taste of the finer things in life.

This habit continued until his mother died from a knife in the back. She was the victim of an internal coup in the Brotherhood of Silence (the largest thieves guild in Avistan.) Samuel used his power to convince them to let him run. He went to a new city and started doing street performances and con games to get by. Soon one of the people he charmed invited him join his acting troupe. He chose the name Samuel Hutchinson then to be his stage name. It sounded classier like the nobles he charmed in his youth. But it turned out he was not a terribly good actor. He only did well with villain parts and had trouble with the part where they lose. He decided to bounce around troupes. Samuel always left on good terms and could enter a new troupe very easily.

The greatest secret of his life is that his father was Lord Aberforth, the head of the house and Samuel is his bastard. The house reverted to the family of the woman who would have been his stepmother, Lady Denning. Sam's mother was able to run away with her child and was able to escape because she wasn't showing her pregnancy at the time and deemed too inconsequential to chase. Samuel is now the sole heir to his house but he wouldn't be able to get any land or power even if his title were recognized. The attack was done by an anti-noble revolutionary group with ties to nearby Galt. But they were paid and directed by the Dennings to punish their daughter for marrying a lower class noble out of love rather than a more convenient match. It only gained them the Aberforth estate along with it.

Samuel wants more out of life. He wants to be in control of something. He wants wealth and comfort and all the things that were denied him. Samuel will do absolutely anything to avoid being where he was. His primary motivation is to be a noble. No act is too cruel in the name of this goal.

Faction: Rebel
Character name: Zindra Malru
Class: Cleric

Hello!

This alias was for a Cheliax-inspired explore Arcadia game.
Seeing as how it has appeared to have died, she'd love the opportunity to join this one.

Now, the GM over there was so lenient as to allow a paladin to be LE, simply changing every instance of "evil" to "chaos". I hope that's okay!
Her profile would have to be updated to level 3 and your stat-gen (rolled for her current stats), but I can quickly have her ready to go.

Faction: Enforcer, rather obviously.
Character Name: Azrielan
Class: Paladin of Tyranny (Oath of Vengeance), future Hellknight.
Background: all in profile, along with personalized code of conduct and oath.

Edit: thinking about it, I might pick up a level or two in Oracle, and could go Signifer if we have enough melee and the casting would be more appreciated.

This sounds fascinating! I love the idea of putting the PCs up against each other and I am very interested for either side. I will try to throw something together after work. Sounds entertaining.

A few questions though.

Is it going to be social and intrigue or hack and slash? So I know which skills matter. I tend to try for skill monkeys.

Would flipping sides be acceptable? They idea of trying to recruit from the others side has an appeal.

3000gp is a lot are we starting at level one?

Is leadership allowed?

Faction: Rebel
Character name: Arrgrush Stoneclaw
Class: Hunter

background:
Halfling riding a dinosaur

Deaths apprentice:
-A mix of both, the rebels will be relying more on stealth while trying to defeat a superior force at first but as the crusade gains momentum the balance of power could change depending how things are going. On the other hand the villains will find they have all the power at first trying to hunt down and eliminate small bands of rebels only to find that the number of rebels is quickly growing and unless they do something they will be the ones hunted instead.

-I have no objection to a player switching sides or even starting a new side if they can manage it but I expect a good reason for doing so.

-Starting level is level 3. I don't want anyone dying right at the start and your characters have a bit of experience under their belt already at the start of the adventure.

-No, depending how the story plays out I may make an exception but don't count on it. However minions may be acquired by other means.

So I like Tic Douloureux, Aloysia Sett, Freya Solheim and
Zindra Malru so lets say they are approved I haven't really checked over the sheets entirely so far just looked at the backstory and the classes will review them later but I trust everything is ok.

So that's 2 for good and 2 for evil.

Azrielan why not make an antipaladin?

Arrgrush Stoneclaw I see very often so I'm not particularly interested and it doesn't suit the campaign very well.

HP: Max for level 1 then average (rounded down) for the rest.

Because she isn't Chaotic. Like, at all. And she does care about the law, just a bit too much.

If you're not okay with a LE Paladin (which I think is what Antipaldins should have always been), then I guess I could work something else out.
But I think her code and oath pretty much spell out Lawful Evil. Which, to me, isn't the corrupting, disease-spreading monster the Antipaldin is.
She wouldn't use her Lay on Hands to heal the sick, instead saving it for herself or those who she needs kept alive.

I see. Remind me a bit of the paladin of freedom one of my players played once. (would actually be pretty good for rebels)

However if were are going to make a lawful evil paladin we need to change a bit more that just switching smite evil and detect evil to smite chaos and detect chaos.

We should be building off the antipaladin instead.

I would allow you to trade smite good and detect good for smite and detect chaos. (bit of a loss actually since you gain those when you become a hellknight and would then be able to smite chaos AND good.

Aura of good becomes aura of evil obviously, divine grace becomes Unholy Resilience (same effect so wtv)

I would however change lay on hands to Touch of Corruption, an evil paladin should harm and not heal.

you can just be immune to diseases if you want.

Aura of courage would become Aura of Cowardice.

cruelty's instead of mercy's

Channel Negative Energy instead of positive

and use the antipaladin spell list.

Fiendish Boon for your weapon or an evil mount.

Beyond that take levels in hellknight.

If you want to go pure law however we could make up a Lawful-Neutral paladin.

How about a rebel assassin?

Faction: Rebel
Character name: Tobias Flint
Class: Rogue
Background: In the profile. I'll have to make some changes but I was thinking of swinging his father a noble in the house of Thrune which gives him a very good reason to join the rebels. First for vengence then maybe something more. I'll update to level 3 later.

I should probably specify, because I definitely don't expect you to remember every post in the thread! I am both Tic Douloureux and Aloysia Sett. I only submitted both going back to one of my previous posts replying to your statement that you would like to see an Inquisitor and an Assassin on the Enforcer side, and I had mentioned I have one of each. I only submitted both in case you found yourself in a dilemma of needing to choose between, say, two Inquisitors I would be happy to pull Tic out and go with Aloysia as the submission. Sorry for any confusion, I'm happy to delete one of the submissions if you prefer!

Yay, I like being approved! And Thanks for the HP clarification. Anything about Background Skills or Automatic Bonus Progression?

Ah between the two I prefer the inquisitor but your choice.

Is the 28 point buy a typo, or did you mean 1-for-1, or what?

It's fine if you meant 20 point but, normally, but just need to know.

DireMerc wrote:

Sounds great, we'll make that my submission and just have Aloysia on backup if it ever comes up.

Faction: Rebel
Character name: Mordecai Goldman
Class: Fighter
Background:

background:
Mordecai grew up on the tales of times long ago when his family served as priests and paladins of Aroden. His ancestors battled for Cheliax in many battles on many fronts bringing great honor God and Country.

Then of Course Aroden died and Cheliax fell under the sway of Devils. Mordecai's family has fallen into a state of disgrace. His relatives have all forgotten Aroden. Some serve Arodens servant Iomedei, some serve there or own ambitions or worst of all some have pledged loyalty to house Thrune.

Mordecai would go to battle not for any of these reasons. He has no ill will towards Iomedai and would gladly fight with those who champion her. But Mordecai would rather fight for a time that has been lost. For this reason Mordecai chooses to fight under the banner of Aroden. He knows that the former patron of Cheliax is dead but that does not mean he must be forgotten.

If you want to play a LE antipaladin, may I suggest Fire Mountain Game's Lord of Darkness? It was created with a LE antipaladin in mind.

28 point buy is considered legendary characters by pathfinder but personally I consider is average stats if I'm rolling lol

Riverfort's submission here. Going to write up the character sheet tomorrow. Decided just to go with the straight magus instead of bladebound.

Faction: Rebel
Name: Turpilius "Turp" Lucretius
Class: Magus

Backstory:
A tiefling born to a prestigious Chelish family, Turp was hidden away for the majority of his childhood while his older, human brother was given every opportunity their family's wealth could afford. Turp had a number of private tutors, all of which were well paid for their silence. He might be hidden away, but he was still a Lucretius. Things were expected of him.

During his tutelage, Turp showed he had a natural talent with both magic and the blade. His father didn't particularly notice or care, but his brother did.

Turp's brother, four years his elder, attended a rather exclusive university. He and his classmates had taken up the hobby of underground tiefling fighting, which is exactly what it sounds like. When Turp was sixteen, he started fighting for his brother in the ring (though their familial relation was not made public). He dominated for a while, glad for the relationship with his brother at first, but the psychological toll weighed him down. These were HIS people he was fighting. He had a stronger connection to them than he did to his family.

One night, Turp was up against an opponent that had cost his brother a lot of money in the past. His brother whispered to him that this was to be a fight to the death. Turp agreed, and killed his brother.

Since then, Turp has been fighting for the oppressed tieflings within Cheliax, while also doing his best to avoid his father's wrath.

one thing he killed his brother? Like in the ring? Was his brother the opponent? I'm a bit confused.

Azrielan has been set-up and will be joining the enforcers.

Tobias Flint we can work something out sure. Were you thinking going actual assassin prestige class? I'd be willing to allow a CN assassin.

Approved

Enforcers:
-Douloureux
-Azrielan
-
-
-
-

Rebels:
-Freya Solheim
-Zindra Malru
-Mordecai Goldman
-
-
-

Still plenty of spots left.

Liberty's Edge

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring. I'm applying with Bjorn, retired gladiator/freed slave turned aspiring freedom fighter.

Faction: Rebel
Name: Bjorn "Stonehand"
Class: Brawler (exemplar)

Background:
Bjorn was conceived in a night of wild passion by a small town tavern maid, sired by a mighty Ulfen Longaxe passing through on Taldan business. His mother, too young and too frightened to cope with the bastard-born child quickly surrendered him to the Asmodean orphanage in the larger neighboring town. Unfortunately, orphanages in Cheliax are often over capacity and rarely equipped with the kind of kindness and charity one hopes for. As soon as he was old enough to walk the boy was sold to noble family in Westcrown.

The family that bought him used him as a house slave at first but when the boy hit puberty his northern ancestry boiled to the surface and he grew into a giant almost overnight. With their property suddenly too large and unwieldy to work within the house but too unlearned and untrained to serve as a guard, they looked for ways to recover their investment, selling him to one of the city's gladiator stables to be trained as a fighting slave.

Bjorn was a natural in the pits, gifted with size and strength but also a natural tenacity and stubborn refusal to lose. As the years passed and he grew in experience, the young Ulfen eventually graduated to the Devildrome itself where his victories continued to mount. Finally, at 29 years of age, he'd collected enough fame and winnings to buy his freedom and retire from life as a gladiator. Unfortunately, freedom wasn't what he thought it'd be. Bondage and battle was all he'd ever known.

Eventually, Bjorn got himself a job working as a bouncer at one of Westcrown's seedier taverns and, over the course of a year, he settled into a life of peaceful, if mundane, normalcy. His celebrity mostly faded with only bloodsport scholars and his more dedicated fans remembering the titan of the arena Bjorn used to be. He was content but far from happy. He missed the roar of the crowd and the adoration that followed his victories. He considered returning to the arena but Bjorn knew he'd never be able to rekindle the love of the crowd in the same way he did when he was just a boy.

He'd have to find a new way to earn the love and respect of the people.

Sounds Good Feral and yes Turpilius.

One spot left for a rebel. Still missing 4 villains.

No. He doesn't use poisons and the death attack is hard to pull off without a ring of invisibility or similar item. The unchained rogue is plenty for now. If I could I'd throw a splash of Stalker in there for buffs to thrown weapons but you said no 3pp.

OK just wondering I'm fine with him being a regular rogue, probably better that way.

Enforcers:
-Douloureux (inquisitor)
-Azrielan (paladin of law/hellknight)
-
-
-
-

Rebels:
-Freya Solheim (Arcanist)
-Zindra Malru (Cleric)
-Mordecai Goldman (Fighter)
-Tobias Flint (Rogue)
-Bjorn "Stonehand" (Brawler)
-Turpilius "Turp" Lucretius (Magus)

This will do for rebels now were are all the villains?
