Gamemaster Kobolum's Way of the Wicked (Inactive)

Game Master Kobolum

Guilty. You are a lawbreaker – the worst of the worst. Too dangerous to live amongst the good people of Talingarde, they dragged you in chains before a magistrate and condemned you. They sent you to the worst prison in the land and there they forever marked you. They held you down and branded you with a runic F. You are forsaken. You won’t be at Branderscar Prison for long. Branderscar is only a holding pen. In three days – justice comes. In three days – everything ends.

What a pity. If only there was a way out of this stinking rat-hole. If only there was a way to escape. If only…

No. No one has ever escaped from Branderscar Prison. This is where your story ends.

I'll allow it on the condition that you really play into the Devotion to Eiseth.

My idea would be to actually grab the Fiendish Devotion feat and probably the Damned Soldier feat as well.

Another question: Would you allow Combat Stamina for Fighters? If so, would you give it to them for free (as per the suggestion in PF Unchained)?

The stat rolls. Focus will be Strength, foible depends on the answer to the question above.

Alright, so I'm working on an Asmodean Advocate cleric, Alixus Vade. I'm including my background in this post, though it is slightly nontraditional, as you'll see in the spoiler. The character will be up fairly soon.

Warrant of Limited Contractual Authority 3T-487.59-666:

Warrant of Limited Contractual Authority 3T-487.59-666
ISSUED in the name of the Nine and Asmodeus most high, in accordance with protocol 24682:292.98, pursuant to relevant codes, regulations, and decrees.

ARBITRATED by Damned Procurator Ulanaxian, hereafter referred to as OFFICIATOR, in service of Asmodeus above all, to bind Alixus Vade, hereafter referred to as SIGNATORY, to the will eternal of the Nine and Asmodeus most mighty.

HERETOFORE shall the efforts of the SIGNATORY in service to the Nine and Asmodeus unparalleled, be rewarded as specified by the following terms.

1. The ability to channel power and magical effects, approved by the Nine and Asmodeus unsurpassed, with proper display of the Archstar, may it shine with radiance until eternity.
2. The grant of a representative of the Nine and Asmodeus incomparable, in the form of a viper until further notice is granted by the OFFICIATOR.
3. The SIGNATORY is herewith granted a writ of authority to issue contracts within the bounds of infernal code 199-219 in the name of the Nine and Asmodeus without equal.

TERMINATION of the Warrant of Limited Contractual Authority 3T-487.59-666 will come upon 1) the cessation of the mortal continuation of the SIGNATORY or 2) upon deviation from the will eternal, inferred or explicit, of the Nine and Asmodeus transcendent. Termination due to the first condition will result in the full integration of the soul of the SIGNATORY according to the will eternal of the Nine and Asmodeus unrivaled. Termination due to the second condition will result in immediate revocation of all vested ability and authority.

The Warrant of Limited Contractual Authority 3T-487.59-666 shall be signed in triplicate, firstly for possession by the OFFICIATOR, secondly for possession by the SIGNATORY, finally for record-keeping in sub-vault 9016B of the Nine-Fold Archive located in the damned metropolis of Dis.

Signed in blood and bound by soul.

1d10 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
1d10 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
1d10 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Yeah that’ll make a good character

I have two villain character concepts, though one uses a non approved race (nagaji) I guess the fighter is off the table
I’ll have to use the oracle (something I am fine with)

I have a backstory for him already but I would like to know your opinion on the feat chain designed to make one into a vampire (that I think was introduced in book 5) or starting with the vampire corruption (something made by Paizo)

Edit: nvm they were already approved

Scarab Sages

Man. With all these vamps around it's a good think Z can both heal and channel negative. ;)

Shadow Lodge

Likewise for Wade the oracle of bones
Also dang selections are today! I best get on it!

Shadow Lodge

backstory:
Wade willhelm is 6ft 2 red eyed, gold haired aasimar with somewhat pale skin, he has rippling muscles from his profession as a blacksmith and well groomed facial hair that rings around his mouth
Wade Wilhelm was an upper middle class Aasimar blacksmith and merchant, he made and sold blades and armor along with a few alchemical trinkets, and had many customers, due in part to his celestial heritage
all in all many would have been comfortable with his life
but
Wade Willhelm has never been a person who could stand to be content, always he was looking to improve himself and his work, one day he found an old book detailing ways to use dark necrotic rituals to strengthen the blades and himself, he preformed a few of the preliminary rituals
that's when he started to hear the whisperings...
voices of the deceased telling him things that no one else could hear
things he himself could barely hear
he delved deeper into them preforming rituals, stealing from graves, whatever he could do to further his abilities
at last he began to know true power, the power over life and death, power over shadows.
the spirits imparted upon him magical power
inevitably however the pale road lead him into troubles with the authorities as they caught him in the act, coming back from steeling bones from their resting place
and so here he is
awaiting his death
will he too become one of the whispers for the next fool to find books he should not
or shall he escape and make them rue the day they sought to “punish” Wade Willhelm!

Foible will be either Cha or Int, depending on the answer to the Combat Stamina question. Also not sure on whether I'll go Angelkin Aasimar (to further mirror Eiseth) or Half Orc for race but the background would be the same regardless.

Background for Katherina Woods:

There is nothing Katherina, or Kat, knows about her origin. She has no idea who her mother is or who her father is. All she knows is she was a foundling discovered near the royal palace's garden gate, hidden among some trees. That is why the maids that found her and raised her as one of their own gave her the surname "Woods". Her first name was given to her in memory of the old cook who had passed away months earlier.

Kat's youth was a joyful one. She was raised by her many "aunts" and "uncles", all servants at the palace, and surrounded by all her "cousins", their actual children. There she was treated as part of the family and any who would call her names because she was different would be scolded.
Now one shouldn't mistake a joyful youth for an easy one as living among the servants meant that even as a child you were working more than you were playing. But singing songs and making jokes made scrubbing pots bearable or even fun.

As a teen Kat's otherness started to work for her as boys and young men grew intrigued by her. Key among them was the son of the king's closest friends and advisers. He was several years older than Kat and some saw his as a possible future husband to the king's own daughter. To Kat he was her on-again, off-again boyfriend, though always in secret. When together they'd skulk around the palace, going places they weren't allowed to go and even learning bit of Infernal, the forbidden tongue, in an act of teenage rebellion. When they were apart she's curse him for it and her "aunts" would scold her, saying there was beings that listened to scorned women and would take violent action and she wouldn't want that.
So when the then 16 year old Kat excitedly approached him with the news that she was pregnant, hoping it would formalise their relationship, she was baffled by the look of shock and fear on his face as he ran off. In desperation he told his mother who in turn promised to solve things.

The next night a group of three man armed with clubs infiltrated the servants' quarter, sought out Katherina and beat her within an inch of her life. She was out for several weeks while her fellow servants looked after her. She miscarried during those days.

After she came to the boy came to visit her, ashamed and horrified by the actions of his mother. When Kat blamed him for what happened he told her he had been desperate, that he had told his mother, that she had orchestrated this and that he regretted all of it. When she asked him what he was going to do now he replied there was nothing he could do. Kat broke down in tears. When he then leaned down to console her she grabbed the knife she had used to eat her dinner and stabbed him three times in the back, the blade breaking on his shoulder blade on the third stab. Then she ran.

By the time he was found, bloody but alive, she was already out the palace gate and halfway across the city. She kept running and only stopped when her feet and legs were too worn to carry here any further. By then she was several hours away from the capital where she hid within a forest. There she survived for a few days, living on fruits and game stolen from hunters' traps while at the same time resentment and hate grew within her heart. Every night she'd pray to that supposed dark entity that listened to hurt women and took vengeance on their behalf.

After a few days in the woods she was found by a gang of bandits who, seeing her ragged appearance and the fire in her eyes, took her in and made her one of their own. With them she trained, learned how to wield a blade and shoot a bow, fuelled by her still growing hatred. At night she prayed to an entity she now knew was named Eiseth, knowledge she received through dreams. Like her, Eiseth had fallen from a place of goodness due to the incompetence and idiocy of men placed above her.

With the bandits she robbed travellers and merchants, her job mostly consisting of keeping their victims cowed while the other took their valuables. They were quite successful and that success was what eventually cost them.
They attacked what looked like a regular group of merchants. Kat was the first to realise something was wrong, when she spotted one of the men from her nightmares, one of the men that had beaten her, among the merchants. She tried to flee and warn the others but it was too late, the trap was sprung. Several of the bandits, including their leader, died in the ensuing battle. Kat however got captured, along with several others. But while the others were tried and convicted as bandits and ended up in normal prisons she was recognised as the one who had attacked and almost killed a noble's son. She was tried and convicted for attempted murder in addition to banditry and was sent off to Branderscar.

Z revised fluff:

Lazarus. The name is synonymous with resurrection and, at least in the medical community of Talengarde, that connection is due to one doctor of that name: Lazarus P Ratilerre. He earned a reputarion for emergency work and last minute recoveries to the point that there was a rumor that he actually lived on death's doorstep.
One fateful day, a member of a highly respected family, the newest daughter of three years, received a nasty kick from a startled horse. Her chest cavity was no longer a cavity.
The family rushed her to Lazarus via an emergency teleport from the family mage and he immediately took the case. The girl died there, but Lazarus knew his magic. He reached into death and brought the girl back to life.
From that moment on he was a celebrity healer. He took the opportunity and claimed powers both miraculous and wonderful, selling his brand of healing across Talingarde! It all came crashing down when agents of the church of Mytra actually stated checking into his abilities.
He tried to make a run for it, but was captured. The evidence was overwhelming, the trial short, the outcry severe. His 15 minutes of fame was now taking him to the salt mines.

Hm, I'm going to say no on the combat stamina, simply because I've never used it before and I don't know how well it would go.

This attack deals 1d6 points of negative energy damage +1 point for every two oracle levels you possess. If used against an undead creature, it heals damage and grants a +2 channel resistance for 1 minute. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier. The Bitten
You have been bitten by a vampire and infected with the curse of undeath. As you sicken, your senses heighten and you become profoundly aware that every day, you are changing into something both more and less than mortal. You have only begun your transformation into the living dead. Prerequisites: You must be bitten by a vampire. Benefits: You gain darkvision 30 ft. and the alertness feat, however your Constitution score is lowered by two permanently.

Desecration

You have violated one of the churchs, cathedrals or holy
shrines of the great god Mitra. To be sent to Branderscar
this was no minor act of vandalism. Instead you have
done something flagrant and spectacular to dishonor the
Shining Lord.
Punishment: Death by burning
Benefit: You receive +1 trait bonus on all saving
throws against divine spells
(he stole the bones of an important religious figure and was caught)

buildnotes:

Crazy good stats except for that nearly dead con (if this is too good for you to be comfortable with my going vampire, I can change the forbile to wisdom and it would not change the character much)

I’m trying to decide between Aboleth, deep one and black blooded for my curses, I really wish there was a triple or quadruple cursed archetype lol

Anyway I’m planning on going for a classic necromancer build with my spells, mostly healing and debuff/buff with spells cast in combat, with melee either from scythe or natural weapons depending on the weapons
Out of combat he’ll be able to craft weapons for the party, use party face skills and will provide coverage for two knowledge skills

Personality wise he’s prideful and confident and a bit of a flirtbut not one that cares about being in the spotlight. Regarding character flaws he’s somewhat vain, unused to hardship and very power hungry

Yes it is. Sorry but my cat got hit by a car the other day.

Sorry to hear that, hope you're alright

As always good applications all around but I already have two other players so I can only pick four of you.

Araton Fal (KingHotTrash)

Katherina Woods (Cuàn)

Saulric (DJ TPK)

Lazarus "Z" the Rat (Choon)

Please go roll a perception checking the gameplay thread.

As for the rest of you don't put away that evil character sheet just yet. For you see the Way of the Wicked is just one path to true evil, and a shining city of silver and song will soon face a challenge far greater than any it has ever known.

My condolences Kobolum. I hope your cat is okay and if not, take whatever time you need. I'd be an absolute mess if that happened to my cat.

EDIT: Woot! Checking in now!

Huzzah! Thanks GM!

Shadow Lodge

Sucks about the car
Good luck guys

Wow. Didn't expect to get picked for this one. Huzzah! Well I wish you evil villains good rampages in the future.

Holiday attrition in play by post is terrible. I need replacement players in this game. You can either take over one of the existing characters or create your own.

We just hit level two and are in a good position to introduce new characters.

Silver Crusade

Dotting, would an aspiring hellknight be a feasable PC (likely order of the god claw?)

Armiger archetype for fighter would be the class before the Prestige class.

New to the boards but have a few years of rpg experience. I'd like to apply as well. Just wondering what group looks like? But a Dhampire Anti-paladin would be my first application

Otherwise I may go the lines of a human rogue going for Red Mantis Assassin

Way of the Wicked assumes nothing about the world surrounding Talingarde, and the Hellknights are very much a Inner Sea region thing.

I could home-brew in a Hellknight group in Talingarde or such a character could be the founder of that type of group, but the Godclaw specifically would not work.

A Godclaw Hellknight would have reason to fight against the player characters, not join them. Talingarde is overbearingly lawful good, the Godclaw would love it there.

Welcome to the boards. You didn’t mention if you have play by post experience or not so fair warning, this is a full-on campaign, and a full-on campaign in play by post takes years. I started this close to a year ago we just hit level two. This is a marathon.

The party currently consists of a Cleric (Ecclesitheurge) of Lorcan, a Mesmerist, and a Tower Shield Specialist. All human.

A Dhampire Anti-paladin is fine, however he will be lawful evil. rather you choose an archetype that makes him lawful evil or I use a home-brew rule.

Just like with the Hellknights, the Red Mantis Assassin are a Inner Sea region organization. I would either need to Home-brew that in or have you act as the pioneer of that group.

So perhaps the rogue would be best suited for the group? If I go this route, she may have either been sent of this could be a start to said orginazation

I understand I'll be in it for the long haul. And I'm happy to do so. New to PbP but happy to participate

Short Explanation:

While working, she was caught, not that the thought didnt cross her mind, but she was sloppy it seemed. She didnt know what happened, she was standing over the corpse of her victem, the next thing she knew a tight grip on her neck, extreme cold, then darkness. When she woke up, she was in prison. Luckily the prison break helped her to escape too, the prison being disarray really makes things easy. a few dead guards later, and she was following the group that escaped

A devout follower of the Crimson Death, she made her way in the world by doing his work. She is rather friendly, up to the point where she guts you, but that shouldnt dissuade people from talking to her.

I didnt roll for HP yet, so here goes
HP: 1d8 ⇒ 1 hah, average it is then

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Oh wow, yes please, sticking with these for the stats. Editing my sheet now, since i didnt roll yet when i made it

Shadow Lodge

Can I use Wade? He was in the initial recruitment

Silver Crusade

I meant a godclaw of asmodeous however I am fine with a homebrewn hellknight order and or one with him as his eventual diabolically blessed founder sounds fun. If you are up for that.

Shadow Lodge

Order of the gate is traditionally where the evil casters go

Silver Crusade

Thats true, I don't see him as a caster though, and godclaw seemed the most likely to tear down "unjust and worthless" laws and replace them with more proper and effective laws. In the name of a deity. Though thinking on it, order of the scourge may have been a better one to opt for.

If making my own order is an option I would have opted for that even if the latter was available, the idea of him creating his own order is epic.

Would also be a reason he was recruited, ambitious, dependable, duty-bound.. the works haha.

I'm trying not to get too giddy, as I haven't been selected yet. But the prospect of writing up my own order with the GM has me all excited.

rorek55 wrote:

The problem with the Godclaw is that they are Polytheistic. They don't just worship or gain power from just one god, so it's impossible to be a Godclaw "of Asmodeus". It's not a huge problem, but it's there. Maybe we could just pick five or so lawful evil deities and go with it.

Silver Crusade

Aye, edited it a bit, though likely the same problem arises as the godclaw, the order would likely need to be exclusively LE/LN and based around enforcing a type of "Hells laws"

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

I may keep this, might use PB... hm. Probably PB, as it lets me spread the points out a bit more to better match the character.

I'd be happy to pick up Baolo. Seems he hasn't been gone from the board for so long that it would be hard to reintroduce him and it might make for more consistent story.

He seems like he's got an interesting backstory and some good roleplay potential.

How would you like to handle it if that's the application I'd like to put in?

Also, would it be a problem if I'm running a Way of the Wicked game right now?

Alternatively, if that's not what you really want, I'd probably make something like a rogue/wizard/arcane trickster (though at second level, it'd be more just rogue)

Can I use Wade? He was in the initial recruitment

You can use Wade.

Don’t get giddy! It’ll make me feel bad if you end up not making the cut. :(

I'd be happy to pick up Baolo. Seems he hasn't been gone from the board for so long that it would be hard to reintroduce him and it might make for more consistent story.

He seems like he's got an interesting backstory and some good roleplay potential.

I didn’t think anyone would actually take that option, I just pointed it out so that people would go look at the characters we already had. Hmm... An explanation of where you’d want to take the character roleplay wise and statistic wise and a roleplay sample? Yeah that sounds good. Or you could go for your rogue/wizard/arcane trickster.

LOOK AT ME! I AM A SHINING BEACON OF CHARACTERNESS AND THINGS! YOUR MIND WILL BE BLOWN BY THE EXQUITE NATURE OF MY... what, what is it. why are you tugging on me?! Can't you see I'm trying to... oh, I'm average. I'm not the best thing since Aroden's sculpted abs? Really? Oh...

CARRY ON!

Do not listen to the voice Lazarus. You are far better than Aroden's pot belly.

Well, since it was an unexpected option, I'll probably go for the Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster. Besides, that would probably play better with the party you've already got.

Str: Foible
Dex: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Con: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Int: Focus
Wis: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Cha: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Oh, wow. That's a little . . . I don't know, I might go with the 25 point buy. That seems a little TOO good at everything. Villains just aren't as good without flaws.

Health: 1d8 ⇒ 1

Definitely half+1 health though.

Initial Concept:
Half-elf Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster. She'll be an enchanter specialist, using it to buff her manipulation of people outside of combat and control the battle within combat, while feinting and stabbing for Sneak Attack, with the occasional blast.

Levels 1-2: Rogue
Levels 3-5: Wizard
Level 6: Rogue
Level 7-16: Arcane Trickster
Level 17-20 (Should we get there): Wizard

Basic Background (more to come later): Kira Petrilus was born to a family of elves, but she a half-elf. She never got a chance to know her human father, and her elven father hated her as the reminder of his wife's infidelity. She was treated poorly, to say the least, till she eventually ran away. She nearly starved to death on the streets of Matharyn, before she was taken in by a wizard, Wentzel. He and his familiar (an imp named Randune) taught her how to survive, how to use people. While she learned a lot about magic, she didn't get the chance to learn to do any. Her new family was taken away and imprisoned when it was discovered he was a worshiper of Asmodeus. Lickily for Kira, she was not officially part of his home, so she was able to hide and remain undetected when they came for Wentzel.

Kira moved out on her own, but this time she was prepared. She spent her time conning people of what she could. Despite this though, a spark had taken hold in her heart. She wanted revenge. Wentzel and Randune were her only family and they had been taken away. Mitra and his priests had ruined her family for something as simple as worshiping Asmodeus. Kira sought out jobs and cons that would cause the Church of Mitra to lose credibility, often impersonating a priest.

She got away with it for some time, but got caught. A man hired her to forge a document that threw Mitran support behind a known murderer, the man's brother, in an attempt to set him free. The man got caught and pointed directly to Kira.

(I stopped at that point. I figure I can change the end up however is best suited for introducing her. As for the build, I'm going to take you up on the offer expressed in OP to apply with just background, etc. If you need more details, I will be happy to provide.)

Silver Crusade

Hmm.. you get an 18 in all stats, but every level after level 1 you only get 1hp from the hit dice. Lol.

** spoiler omitted **...

I would personally suggest you split your levels between Rogue and Wizard for the first two. With the right spell choice they synchronize really well and it would give us more arcane power and sneakiness right off the bat if you get chosen.

As to your ability points, lucky rolls are lucky rolls. Keep 'em. The best flaws are character flaws anyways.

Dotting, I have an idea for an aasimur bladebound magus. I'll have to work it out later.

Foible of wis
Focus either str or dex

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

1d8 ⇒ 6

Yeah, I keep going back and forth on that. That is probably how I'd end up doing it.

As for the stats, yeah, I probably would end up keeping them as rolled. Kira's going to be interesting enough as is.

How long are you giving on recruitment? I'm hoping take some time to detail Kira out a bit more between now and then and want to plan my time if I can

Working on the crunch aspect but the idea is hexcrafter/bladebound/magus angelkin aasimur, Catrus White.

background:

Bastard's Fall

The story of Cartus White is one of sadness. After the talingarde civil war the remaining members of the house of Barca were stripped of power and left as little more than examples of the power of the house of Darius. Over the years the remaining members of the house of Barca have died out with the family becoming less numerous by the decade. The last surviving member of the family Theodora ensures the death of the name whether she marries or dies. and the end of the possibility of a usurper.

With the family decimated and destitute Theodora prayed for something from the gods to reverse their fortunes. Then one day an angel came to her in her dreams and lay with her. When she awoke felt different, several months later she realized she was pregnant. She gave birth to a young baby, half man half angel, though by law he was a bastard.

As he grew his mother told him of the stories of his family and the glory they once had. She told him it was his right to be King and to rid the country of the house of Darius. This went on till the boy was ten when word finally reached the king of this supposed angel born child. Fearful of what this boy might turn into and what might happen if a angelic pretender were to gain support against the crown he sent for their arrest for sedition.

With the king after her and her son they fled and for 10 years they moved around the country staying one step ahead of the law. It was on this trip that Catrus began to learn of his natural strengths and intelligence. He grew good with weapons and learned some basic spells. Then one day the law caught up to them.

They accidentally killed his mother in the scuffle and in a fit of rage he killed the gaurds. He then went to the nearest town to round up as many of the people as he could to start his glorious rebellion. It ended up failing miserably as more gaurds quickly came to the town. They captured him and charged him with high treason against the crown.

As they took Cartus away he went screaming about how it is his birthright to rule and they will all pay for their insolence when he rules. As he was taken away more than just the guards watched Cartus....
