Riori Stargazer |

Sorry, I'm confused. I saw I went after Cyclops 2, but didn't see the confirmation he'd dropped earlier, so I was waiting for the cyclops to act (or confirmation he was dead) before I posted. I tried clicking on the map link but the map won't load so if there was indication there I can't see it. I am going to go ahead and post both my round 1 and round 2 actions and hope that's okay. I'll make the round 1 action fairly innocuous.
Riori sticks with the party and calls on a quick bless spell. +1 morale bonus to attack and saves vs fear
After the cyclopes come closer--within range of her starknife--she hurls it at the one that looks the most hurt.

Chumtooth hurls his harpoon at the nearest cyclops (#1), causing it to reel. He recalls the weapon and throws again, impaling the one-eyed monster through the heart! The cyclops falls backward and shakes in its death throes.
Faengrim attacks the one on the end (#4), inflicting a grievous wound, but the creature refuses to fall! Riori hurls her starknife into the foe, but it stubbornly refuses to fall.
Deprived of one of his targets, Rogar switches to the two most wounded (#3 and #4). His bombs explode against the cyclopes, bringing one low, and leaving two foes, both blinded.

Dantes casts bull's strength on his captain. The cyclopes continue to rub their eyes, trying to clear them. That is when Faengrim strikes! His sword bites deeply into the flesh of the more wounded of the two, taking its head with a single stroke!

Between Chumtooth and Riori, the last cyclops goes down rather easily.
Combat over!
The stone watchtower is 60 feet tall, with battlements encircling a raised platform about 40 feet up. Like the tower at the Chelish fort, it provides a commanding view of the seaside cliffs. The chambers below the tower have completely collapsed. The cyclopes were outside the tower's ruin, but there appears to be nothing of value within.

Riori Stargazer |

Riori hooks her starknife back to her belt, turning her eyes back to th tower. "While you loot the bodies, want me to fly up to the top of the tower and see if there's anything of interest up there?"
She's been with the crew long enough you know she can fly... and that in general when she walks, even, her feet barely seem to touch the ground, so much so she doesn't even leave footprints. A useful divine gift, to be sure.

Chumtooth |

Chumtooth nods at Riori's suggestion. "Yes. See what you can see. This tower will need to be rebuilt, once we have subdued the island."
To the others he says, "Let us see what the one-eyed giants were carrying."

Faengrim |

Change Shape: Land
Con +2 (+10 hp, +1 fort); Ferocity; Swim 30'; Bite +13 1d6+3
Faengrim helps loot the bodies. "You think the eyes will be worth something, Captain?"

![]() |

Riori flits up to the top of the tower, alighting gently on the remains of the rooftop. From here, she has a commanding view of the island and to the east, she sees a natural canyon that the road passes through that looks almost like it contains the ruins of buildings. Beyond this, she can see a lone mountain to the northeast, about which circle several large flying birds.
The giants carried heavy crossbows and greataxes but had little else of value. Each carries a supply of a dozen bolts. One of the bodies bears a note, scrawled on a piece of parchment, written in an incomprehensible language (unless one of you reads Cyclops).

Riori Stargazer |

"Giant birds. A troubling portent." Riori tries to identify the birds--if too far to see type, to determine if circling pattern is that of hunters, scavengers, or protecting a nest.
Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
She then flies back to the ground and tells the crew what she saw, picking up a stick and sketching a rough map into the ground to show them.
"If we've no other ideas, the ruins by the canyon might be worth exploring."

Dantes Goldforge |

One of the bodies bears a note, scrawled on a piece of parchment, written in an incomprehensible language (unless one of you reads Cyclops).
As a matter of fact, I do read Cyclops!
Dantes takes the parchment with shaking hands. For decades he has sought the secrets of the cyclops. Now, perhaps, a sliver of it has come to his hands.

![]() |

Riori, the birds are clearly protecting a nest, though from what, you cannot tell.

Faengrim |

Change Shape: Land

"These overlarge weapons are of little use to us beyond scrap unless we get to a major port. Then they'd be of some worth."

![]() |

"Nothin' in th' tower? What a waste.." Rogar grumbles, turns a few stones in hopes of finding something, anything.
Once Riori flies back from her scouting, the dwarf studies the map she sketched. "Th' canyon looks as good as any place t' start. How far ye think it is?" he says, tapping the location on the map.

Dantes Goldforge |

Dantes reads the note in the cyclops language, and then repeats the message in the common tongue for the others. "You are to go west to the lookout tower and remain there until I send for you. You are being punished, remember that!" He looks at the others and says "It is signed 'Shaija'."
GM, does the name Shaija mean anything to us? Based on the size of the script, does it look like Shaija is giant-sized or more medium sized?
If this is the lookout tower, that means we could head east and see where they came from.

Faengrim |

Change Shape: Land
Con +2 (+10 hp, +1 fort); Ferocity; Swim 30'; Bite +13 1d6+3
"Maybe lightweight," referring to Riorti "can fly back up and see what she can see. If this is a watch tower, there's probably another place on the horizon for it to send signal to."

Riori Stargazer |

"Based on what I saw before, I didn't see an obvious tower or other singular building to signal. But there were the buildings in the canyon, or somewhere on the mountain. Where large birds were flocking to protect their nest. With our luck, the nest is on the other tower."
When Riori was up there, did she see anything inside the tower that indicated how they signaled? Mirror? Bell? She'll go back up and look if it wasn't obvious.

![]() |

The script is fairly large, indicating that the author is a larger being. Riori, you saw nothing that would indicate a means of signaling. The name Shaija does not ring any bells. The tower is indeed empty and the canyon looks to be about a league (3 miles) from where you are.
