Sal'era looks about. This log is too tough to handle. "Everybody out!" She scoops up Eddie and hustles out of the room. "Jiggs, incoming."
Jiggo raises a magical >Shield< to protect himself. But really he's proud Sal'era's taking the initiative to do something to help others.
She frowns briefly before realizing he's proud, and then she can't help but smile. "They're a really helpful... fungi. Can't let that go to waste."
She carefully lowers Eddie on the ground.

This is Eddie’s second attempt to identify the log so it will be at a penalty of -2.
Recall Knowledge rules
Eddie can not recall anything further about the Elder Trunk. He does determine it still doesn’t like being frozen.
Fortitude: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
The trunk spits seeds at Bun. They hit all around him, none of them coming anywhere close to the gunslinging poppet.
seed: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Piercing: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

GM Bret |

The Veiled Lady continues to support Bun and Sal’era with her protective magic as she tries to recall what she can about this creature. It looks like wood so it should burn, right?
She thinks that Eddie made a mistake, this isn’t an Elder Trunk but rather a Fossilized Shrub and as such would be resistant to fire, not electricity!
Since the two of them can’t agree on what sort of creature it is, it might be a good time to do some testing.

"Wait, it's not flammable? I thought we couldn't shock it?" Jiggo hears the contradictory information.
Sal'era shrugs. "Just do whatever, it's blocking the doorway, Bun's in there!"

Does someone have Crafting trained and a Repair Kit to fix the shield?

![]() |

"Thanks, Eddie! This will be very useful, you know." Veiled Lady is grateful that Eddie lends her a wooden shield, given that her own is broken. She stows it behind her, keeping it for now so that it can be fixed when they get the chance after their mission.
She also gives Bun a nod of appreciation for healing her too.
She spends the time Refocusing.
I have no repair kit and I only have Crafting -1.

GM Bret |

We will assume you spend the time so that Eddie can heal you with more berries and then move on.
The full incriminating records of the Golden League Cell's activities can be found here. In tiny print, there are seventy years of every smuggled or stolen item or creature that has passed through these walls. One of the most recent entries notes the discovery of Bloodmoon, noting that the remarkable artifact would surely be worth thousands of gold pieces to the right collector in Goka, but that the boss seems unable to part with it.
So nice of the accountant to provide these sort of details.

![]() |

"Bloodmoon? Well, that makes sense. They smuggled in an artifact, their boss doesn't want to surrender it, so it stayed here. It must be cursing the area and the kami blocked the roads to slow its spread." Jiggo takes a wild guess.
If it's Religion, Jiggo would like to Recall Knowledge about it with a +7 bonus.
"Let's find the leader and take it. Isn't there a... Pathfindery place you keep these artifacts?" Sal'era returns to her skulking position.
Once the team is ready, Sal'era prepares to check out C3, then C5.

Jiggo's Exploration Activity: Investigate via Religion +7

Eddie's head bobbles at Lady with a smile "Anytime! If I need to lay the smack down I'll just use both hands on my staff! BIFF! BLAP!" They show off their really poor melee fighting skills with enhancing sound effects.
Jiggs finally starts to steer the ship back on the right path "It IS nice they left so many papers with the tiny print. The VCs that give out the shinies always want to see those papers." Eddie starts to stuff said papers into their backpack for safe keeping.
If Nature Eddie has +10 to recall

That is fine as well. Just a little easier to track a 10 minute cool down than an hour cool down. Continual Recovery is nice in that it makes Treat Wounds the same timer as the focus spells.
Having collected the papers, now it is time to figure out where to go next. Unfortunately this wasn’t a pirate accountant, no map with a big red X to show where the main treasure is. :)

GM Bret |

The accountant is sneaky though. It seems they squirreled away a spellheart smuggled from the forest, a thorn triad.
So cleverly hidden, the GM almost missed it. :)

![]() |

"Yes, explore more, compost later.." Eddie waves at the trio of downed enemies and follows Jiggs back to the drinking hall. They sniff the air, enjoying the fermented stale air of spilled saki.
"So, I know we are down here searching for the baddies, but, there are probably baddies out in the village to? Someone up there must know what is going on down here right?" Eddie's brain works to connect the two thoughts, its a windy road through that spongy cap, but they'll get there eventually.
Continue searching. Staff in two hands.

![]() |

Bun reloads and follows...

![]() |

"Well, we do need to find the leader of this Golden League cell. Sounds like they may have the Bloodstone." Jiggo responds.
"Uh, Sal'era? Did you see anything in there? Maybe fewer deadly logs?" Jiggo looks in the direction of C3 and C5.

GM Bret |

You go out through the dormitory with the sleeping bandits, through the dining hall, and into the other room.
C3
This is another dormitory, set up much like the other. The main difference is it appears several people got up on the wrong side of the bed. It looks like at least one of them never woke, having been killed in their sleep. Then it appears a fight broke out. The last one standing left the room, still bleeding.
Quite an appalling site.
Finding nothing of value in the room, you move on to the next room.
C5
This office contains one wooden desk, a coffee table with the remains of breakfast, and a comfortable chair. A small wooden chest lies under the bed.
Eddie’s attention immediately goes to one of the books on the desk. Investigating it, he finds it is a dairy that he suspects was dictated. There are multiple handwritings.
The diary chronicles the boss's rise to power within this cell of the Golden League, revealing a ruthless cunning and honest self-appraisal. But in the most recent diary entries, the handwriting becomes erratic as the boss extols Bloodmoon and expresses violent sentiments like, “They don't want me to succeed, but I will crush them all like the insects they are.” There are two entries that are blood-splattered and crossed out. The following entries are in a different handwriting and immediately note “As chronicler, it is my responsibility to write what is dictated to me.”
It will take a while to read in detail the whole chronicle.
The chest does not appear to be trapped, but it is locked.

![]() |

"Oh.." Is all Eddie has to say at first. They check on the corpses to make sure they are indeed dead.

![]() |

Jiggo mutters a quiet prayer as he enters the room. "We'll handle the bodies afterward..."
Sal'era resists the urge to shrug. They got sloppy, always check the merch. She makes sure nothing is going to ambush them before waving people into the room.
"Doesn't look trapped..." Sal'era reaches her hand back and Jiggo hands her some Thieves' Tools. She sits down to unlock the chest.
Thievery: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Thievery: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Thievery: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

Thievery: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Thievery: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Thievery: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

![]() |

After a bit of reading Eddie nods "I think we know why they haven't sold that bloodmoon thing.. guess they REALLY like it." Eddie notices all the BLOOD everywhere.
"I know it probably won't happen, but it probably will... anyone good at stopping bleeding? I think there's a spell I can ask the fungal spirits about tomorrow if we want."

![]() |

"I can bandage people up a bit." Jiggo breathes slowly to calm himself. "But these are too far gone. Once Sal'era finishes her search, we can see where this blood stain leads..."

GM Bret |

Sal’era is able to quickly unlock the chest.
Inside are a magical ladle and a magical wig that is smoldering. It takes a little time for you to identify the items.

![]() |

Eddie imagines the smoldering wig and how it would look on Bun's head and starts chuckling to the point of wheezing. "Must be some shinies they found, we should take them with us.." Eddie advises once they stop laughing.

Salera, the Reformed |

"Hmm, pretty..." Sal'era stares at the wig for a bit. "But my horns will ruin it. Jiggs, hold onto these for now."
Once he and the team are ready, Sal'era looks at the blood trail. Does it lead anywhere interesting? If not, she will head towards C6.

GM Bret |

The group heads back the way they came and then through the doors.
Water laps softly against the docks in this muddy subterranean cavern. Seven boats cluster around the dock, all usable and in good repair, and three tunnels lead back out to the Bunkatsu river. There are curving pictographs over the archways that lead to other parts of the complex. Along one wall is a frieze with several carved hobgoblin figures, each raising a hand in greeting.
In there you see three beings arguing; a halfling, a serpentine creature and a magical naginata. At least, you assume it is magical since it is floating in the air and talking.
“I still want their pay! I deserve it!” shouts the halfing as the doors open.
“So you want a cut?” asks the naginata.
“I think it would be better if you were cut out.” says the serpentine creature in the water.
It is about this point they all turn towards the door and stare at you. The look isn’t friendly.
The argument forgotten for the moment, it is clear they have decided to release their aggravation on your group.
“Who dares intrude on Bun the Black?!?” the serpentine creature shouts.
In a somewhat more subdued voice, the naginata says “Always nice when victims deliver themselves to us!”
More to come once I have things updated. No one should be past the doors, I have adjusted several people’s position.
