A handsome and brash halfling fellow comes rushing up, huffing and puffing. "Sorry to be late - I had some, uh, difficulties back in Absalom that needed... resolving." He glances over his shoulder as he says this, then hurriedly slings his lute on his back, checks his purse to see if it's still empty - it is - and grins at the others. "Oskar I am, and it won't be long before all Golarion is humming one of my ditties. Just gotta write it first. Hope this adventure provides some inspiration, otherwise what's it good for? A small creature wearing ratty and tattered wizard robes and a stained conical wizard's hat arrives. He is carrying an oversized (for him) spellbook. He has a mouse's mask on, but hasn't drawn it over his face just yet, so, you can tell he's a goblin. "I'm BakBat. The mighty wizard!"

He will set himself down, and begin studying his spellbook. You might notice, if you have a chance to glance in, that the pages all seem to be covered with drawings -- no writing. And the drawings all seem to be in crayon.

Argoni has arrived early and somehow turned a small corner of the room into an improvised alchemy lab. He is mixing two concoctions and sniffing them, alternatingly. "Hmm, smells like too much wheatgrass. Maybe more almondleaf?" He writes in a notebook, ignoring the others for the moment.

You see him dig into his bag for something and then crumble it into one of the mixtures. It instantly turns blue. The halfling seems alarmed. "Oh, um....that doesn't seem right..." He flips a couple pages in his notebook, turning them back and forth before pulling apart some pages that seem to have gotten stuck together. He squints at the unstuck pages. "Wait, it's supposed to have beef sautéed with peas and onions?!" He groans. The mixture is now turning a glittery purple with flashes of green. After a few minutes it begins to smoke.

The halfling's shoulders slump. He quickly puts a stopper onto the mixture and shoves it into his bag. "I'm sure I can throw it at something." Then the turns to the second mixture and lightly taps it on the side. The clear mixture blossoms in a beautiful swirl of oranges and yellows. He smiles and takes a sip, finally turning to the others. "Hi, I'm Argoni. Ari, if you like."

A human teenage boy, adorned in full plate mail that's a tad too big for him, runs awkwardly to catch up with the group. Slowing him down is a large halberd strapped to his left hip and a longbow strapped to his right. Both weapons are comically dragging on the ground behind him as he approaches.

Breathing heavily, the boy looks to the group with wide-eyed excitement. "Golly, it's great to be going on another Pathfinder mission!" Catching his breath, he quickly says, "I'm Dennis. My daddy says I'll grow into my armor. I'm a real good fighter. I've been practicing with my bow, too!" His bow appears to have never been used.

As he swings around to show it off, his halberd nearly knocks over an elderly gentleman trying to pass. "Oh, sorry mister. You'll be okay." Turning back to the group, he remarks, "Wow! A goblin and two halflings! Fun! On my last mission, I was the shortest one." The 5' tall teenager isn't used to towering over anyone.

Meeting the group, Dennis says, "Smells good, Mister Ari. Can't wait to try it!" And "I like music Mister Oskar. I'll hum your ditty." And "Gee, Mister BakBat, that's neat. I use colored wax pencils for my notes too!" Dennis is happy he's found so many fellow Pathfinders that think like him.

Pathfinder Provisions ◆◇↺

The story begins at Iceferry Lodge in the town of Kalsgard, in the Land of the Linnorm Kings. Here, amid the racks of snowshoes and the barking of sled dogs, Venture‑Captain Bjersig Torrsen (LG male dromar scholar) has assembled one of the best libraries in the Saga Lands. A Pathfinder team is summoned to a meeting bright and early and are invited in by Lirall (LG female gnome Pathfinder agent), Bjersig’s scribe, who pulls on a colored rope to let the venture-captain know they’re coming. Without further ado, she ushers the Pathfinders into an overstuffed room chock with scrolls, books, and dog fur.

Already present are Bjersig, his service dog Mahki, and Ogthup (CN female snow goblin scout), who seems thoroughly on-edge around the husky, though Mahki ignores her as he nudges Bjersig to signal that the party have arrived. The venture-captain invites them to sit with a gesture. Once everyone is settled and introductions have been made, Bjersig gets down to business, communicating in Napsu-Sign, the Society’s signed language, with Lirall interpreting if needed.

“Thank you all for coming. Ogthup, stop making faces at my dog,” Bjersig communicates with a distinct sense of exasperation. “Right, let’s make this brief before there’s a murder here.

“You know of Irrisen, I trust? Land of Eternal Winter? A closed country, with very little passage, in or out. The Society’s been looking for more information on Irrisen for years, but we’ve never been able to get any agents inside the country... until now.”

“Frostfur goblins are the best goblins,” Ogthup interjects, taking a break from scowling at Mahki to beam proudly. Bjersig appears to be less enthusiastic, but rallies gamely.

“Indeed. Ogthup here has found what looks to be a pass in the mountains east of here. She hasn’t explored it much yet, but it does seem to go straight through the mountains and come out in Irrisen. Which is where you come in.

“I need you to accompany Ogthup, explore the pass, and find out what is the situation on the other side. Calisro Benarry, the head of the Horizon Hunters, wants all the maps you can give her. Think you can do it?”

“You all draw the maps. I’ll sneak and scout. We will learn everything,” Ogthup proclaims.

“Indeed. One last thing though,” Bjersig signs, leaning forward for emphasis. “We’re here to explore, so don’t cause any international incidents—we want to make friends, not enemies. Don’t get killed either.”

You might have some background knowledge with a Society or Nature check.

"AH! Duh-nee!! I zot I 'eard vous! Ve are on an adventure encore!!" The woman speaks with a French (not sure what it translates to on Golarion) accent. A long rifle is slung on her back and she now has a bandolier of vials on her chest.

Zhamie, BakBat, and Oskar all know that Irrisen was carved out of the Linnorm Kingdoms eons ago by the witch Baba Yaga and is still ruled by her descendants, the winter witches. Drawn from the Jadwiga peoples, winter witches are formidable masters of the magic of ice and snow and mirror.
Argoni also knew that, but he's further aware that the ruler of Irrisen for the last century was Elvanna, a daughter of Baba Yaga. Rumors hold that something unusual happened in 4713 ar, but details are sparse.

Charlies and Oskar recall that through unspeakably powerful magic, Irrisen is locked in eternal winter. It ranges from a killing frost to festive and fluffy snow, but summer never touches Irrisen.

Dennis can't think of any relevant background knowledge.

Ogthup laughs, “If you’re as hardy as a Frostfur, nothing to worry about!” She eyes anyone who seems unprepared for the environment. “…otherwise, you may need a jacket.” Bjersig offers to loan the Pathfinders some snowshoes of the long trek (Pathfinder Society Guide 88), though he notes that he expects them back after the mission. Winter clothing is available for purchase for 4 sp as well. Bjersig strongly recommends that every party member have some way of dealing with the frigid mountain temperatures before they set off.

Bjersig dispatches dog sled teams to take the Pathfinders to the pass, and the journey is largely uneventful aside from Ogthup constantly scowling at the dogs.

Ogthup acts as a minion for the entire party. Her stat block and instructions for commanding her are on Slide 6.

Once the Patfinders arrive at the pass and continue on foot, however, things change. The mountains here are not exceptionally tall, but Irrisen’s eternal winter spills out over them, leaving them covered in snow and ice. Avalanches are a constant threat, and it’s nearly impossible to tell whether the snow underfoot is solid or if it will break and send the hapless traveler plummeting into a deep crevasse. It takes a scout of Ogthup’s skill to survive the pass.

Each Pathfinder can aid the journey by helping Ogthup scout (a Survival check), by keeping an eye on the environment (a Nature check), or by breaking a path through the snow (an Athletics check).
Only one PC can attempt each check, though others can Aid.

Most of the journey is also in severe cold, inflicting damage and fatigue--but you have that covered.

The journey through the pass takes about 24 hours of total travel time, though Ogthup calls for a rest after 12, so the party ends up traveling for about two days.

One hour after the Pathfinders reach the top of the pass, it begins to snow, and soon afterward, the Pathfinders spy something utterly massive moving through the flurries. The shape shortly resolves into a truly immense bear. Deep-set eyes glimmer within his broad skull, and a harness of delicate silver chains strains against his shaggy brown fur. A mirror gleams from his back, and icy flowers dance around his head. When he notices the Pathfinders, the bear rears back, unleashes a terrifying roar, and charges.

BakBat sense magic as the bear approaches. While helps the party be ready for the beast's approach... though ironically not the wizard himself.
Argoni (with the help of Oskar's magic) realizes the mirror is exerting control over the bear, and that neutralizing it would revert the bear to his natural animal instincts. However, given the mirror’s location, this is easier said than done.
A character who wishes to target the mirror must do so by flying above Mishka or by Climbing the bear’s shaggy pelt using the Athletics skill. Given the vigor of Mishka’s movements, the DC to Climb the bear is DC 23, and a climber must ascend 20 feet in total. Mishka can’t attack creatures on his back with his claws or jaws, but he might have other attacks that could reach them. To disable the mirror, a character must either deal damage to it or Disable a Device (two actions, requires Expert in Thievery).

Oh, I forgot to put Ogthup on the map. Remember that any PC can command her as one action once per round.

Argoni sees the way the mirror glints in the sunlight. It may be influencing the bear's behavior, but it looks like he can also use it as a tool, reflecting sunlight in fiery beams. Though... given that it's on the bear's back, he can probably only use it against targets above him, like anyone climbing on his back or climbing the rocks.

He bashes the mirror with his boomerang... which pretty much confirms that it's a magical object, as it proves unusually resilient. Still, he did manage to crack it a little.

Did Argoni's crit on the mirror destroy the construct hardness? Crits tend to do that, yes?

[On the bear's turn...]
As the bear starts to stand, Dennis admonishes the beast, "Bad teddy bear! Stay down. We must destroy that mirror." Without his halberd drawn, Dennis decides not to make a feeble punch at the mirror. And he doesn't want to hurt the Teddy. He then cries out, "Owwwiee!" when the bear bites him.
