GM WhtKnt's Into the Borderlands, Table 2 (Inactive)

Game Master WhtKnt

The Borderlands… an untamed wild region far flung from the comforts and protection of civilization. A lone fortified keep is the only bastion of good desperately striving to maintain the forces of chaos at bay. But evil is everywhere, lurking in dark caves, fetid swamps, and forlorn forests. Bands of cutthroat brigands and ruthless tribes of humanoids eager to clash with the forces of good rove the region. The Borderlands hold many secret wondrous locations, and the opportunities for fame, prestige, and fortune are plentiful. But equally abundant are the perils, risks, and challenges to those brave enough to explore the wilds.

Sharpen your swords and axes. Purchase your iron rations and tinderboxes... and don’t forget to bring at least one 10-foot pole. Adventure awaits those with the mettle to confront chaos in the Borderlands!

This game will use Roll20 for maps. Would everyone please sign in at https://app.roll20.net/join/3245225/O3QwmA and then tell me your Roll20 identity so that I can set everything up. If this really irks anyone to the point of non-participation, I will use Google drive, but I prefer Roll20.

The Stretching Goat is the tavern in the Keep. This can be used for out-of-character discussion, as well as RPing until the players are chosen. Role-playing will not have any effect on my decisions, but you are welcome to do so.

While I'm here, this seems as good a place as any to put my rules.

RULES

 • It is one thing to play in character, it is another entirely to be a jerk. Don't be a jerk.
 • If something is in a spoiler that doesn't apply to you, please don't read it. If you don't speak that language, don't read the spoiler. You may read the Dice Rolls spoiler, as I will put all rolls there.
 • Likewise, you may not, under any circumstances, read the GM Screen spoilers. These contain notes to me about the encounter or other pertinent GM info.
 • I know that there are ways to cheat the dice roller. If I catch you doing it, you will be blacklisted from all of my games. This goes for all other forms of cheating. Play fair and have fun!
 • Please don't metagame. I don't mind that you may have played these classic adventures, but your characters haven't. Please keep that in mind.
 • That's it. Pretty simple, yes?

Male Halfling Rogue 1

Thanks very much for choosing me. I'm looking forward to some old school gaming again.

My Roll20 ID is Ben R.

Thanks for choosing me WhtKnt, I'm super glad to be here with my dwarf. Looking forward to the campaign and playing with you guys!

EDIT: So quick question? Do we want to have all our characters already knowing one another? A newly former adventuring group? Or are we strangers all heading the same way?

EDIT EDIT: ID Tag is Pierce J.

Wood-Elf Monk 1

Thanks for the invite, My roll 20 id is Jon Z

I believe my AC should be 16

My AC is likely to change too, seeing as I'm going to be the heavy armor class guy in the group. I'm probably going to use my domain feature to enchant my armor and get myself up to AC 19.

I will need for everyone to actually follow this link to check into Roll20, even if you already have a Roll20 identity. This is so that I can connect your name to your character.

The link is https://app.roll20.net/join/3245225/O3QwmA

The names that come up on Roll20 are John Z. and warforgedman.

Huh, it didn't change my display name it seems then. I apologize WhtKnt, my display name was warforgedman but I changed it to Pierce J. I'm the skeleton in a tophat.

I've followed your link, so hopefully I'll appear.

Yes, you have a casual knowledge of one another, just from having traveled together for safety.

By the way, I want to applaud Daniel Stewart (Hoddy Fonkin) for his choice of character names, an excellent homage to old-school adventuring.

Back in the day, there was an NPC named "Fonkin Hoddypeak," originally written as a pre-generated character for one of the old 1e modules (I believe that it was the Giants series). I don't know if his name is a deliberate reference to this character, or simply a happy accident, but either way, good job!

Wood-Elf Monk 1

When I was adding myself to Roll20 I spotted that my perception should only be 14 (+4)

No problem.

Male Halfling Rogue 1

Sorry. Forum ate my post and then I forgot to change alias.

Male Goblin (Unbreakable) - AC 19(21), HP 28/28, PER +5; F +5, R +10, W +5 Rogue (Mastermind) - SPD 25, Background - Osprey Scribe

Damn. Forum just ate my post as well... :-(

Wood-Elf Monk 1

at work with no dice randomizing Physical Characteristics

rolls:

Height: 2d10 + 54 ⇒ (6, 3) + 54 = 63
Weight: 2d10 ⇒ (9, 6) = 151d4 ⇒ 2

Male HP: 13/13|AC 20/14/16|Init: +5|Fort: +4 Ref: +5 Will: +2|Perception +6, SM: +9| Conditions: Martial Flexibility (10 rounds)

So I'm assuming that the coupon for the provisioner is 100gp total, not just per person. What kind of items do we want to get? I was thinking a climber's kit could be useful, perhaps.

Male Halfling Rogue 1

Potions could be handy, though expensive.

Wood-Elf Monk 1

Chalk, Hammer and Pitons, if I remember anything from my AD&D days it is spiking doors and marking your path.

Male HP: 13/13|AC 20/14/16|Init: +5|Fort: +4 Ref: +5 Will: +2|Perception +6, SM: +9| Conditions: Martial Flexibility (10 rounds)

Alrighty, I have assembled a shopping list if people are interested in giving their opinions. I'm going to make one with a potion of healing included

- Potion Of Healing (50gp)
- Hammer (1gp)
- 20 pitons (1gp)
- 100 pieces of chalk (1gp)
- Pole, 10ft (5cp)
- Mirror, Steel (5gp)
- 6 sacks (6cp)
- Shovel (5gp)
- 1lb of flour (2cp)
- 1 donkey (8gp)
- 1 cart (15gp)
- 1 chest (5gp)
- Chain, 10ft (5gp)
- Lock (10gp)

Some of the items are a little more situational (flour to try and find secret doors or hidden enemies, the chain and lock to close up a door so we can safely rest or lock the chest full of our loot). This would cost 91gp, 1 sp, and 5cp to buy in total. Any suggestions, my good folks?

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Halfling Rogue 1

All looks reasonable to me. I might suggest adding a bell (1gp) and some string to set an alarm.

Male HP: 13/13|AC 20/14/16|Init: +5|Fort: +4 Ref: +5 Will: +2|Perception +6, SM: +9| Conditions: Martial Flexibility (10 rounds)

We'll add four bells (4gp). WhtKnt, how much would string be? I couldn't find a pricing. We'd like a decent amount so maybe a 1sp or so?

Dark Archive

Maps: Car. Crown || Forge of Heroes || Skull & Shackles

Yeah, a silver is fine for a roll that will hold you for a while.

Male HP: 13/13|AC 20/14/16|Init: +5|Fort: +4 Ref: +5 Will: +2|Perception +6, SM: +9| Conditions: Martial Flexibility (10 rounds)

Our final shopping list then:

- Potion Of Healing (50gp)
- Hammer (1gp)
- 20 pitons (1gp)
- 100 pieces of chalk (1gp)
- Pole, 10ft (5cp)
- Mirror, Steel (5gp)
- 6 sacks (6cp)
- Shovel (5gp)
- 1lb of flour (2cp)
- 1 donkey (8gp)
- 1 cart (15gp)
- 1 chest (5gp)
- Chain, 10ft (5gp)
- Lock (10gp)
- 4 Bells (4gp)
- Lots of String (1sp)

Total: 95gp, 2sp, 5cp

Anything else anyone can think of?

Lookings like you're missing rope.

Posting this to all my games: Sorry for the lack of posting. For the second time this year, I got the flu, and the internet is out at my house right now (where it has been for the last two days). It should hopefully be resolved by Monday, and if not I'm going to switch ISPs. Please feel free to bot me until I am back up and running, and if I am running your game, I haven't forgotten about you!

Male HP: 13/13|AC 20/14/16|Init: +5|Fort: +4 Ref: +5 Will: +2|Perception +6, SM: +9| Conditions: Martial Flexibility (10 rounds)

With all of our packs, rope should be included. I think in total, we have 250' worth of rope between us all.

I have returned from the great beyond. You may now call me Shianni the White!

=P

Male HP: 13/13|AC 20/14/16|Init: +5|Fort: +4 Ref: +5 Will: +2|Perception +6, SM: +9| Conditions: Martial Flexibility (10 rounds)

So for marching order, I think this would probably be the best.

If We Can Stand Abreast

1st Rank: Baern Holderhek & Hoddy Fonkin
2nd Rank: Hess Grimlock & Shianni Fadrick
3rd Rank: Garret Goodbarrel & Teasag Galt.

We can have Shianni and Garret in the front, with Baern and Hoddy taking their places respectively if we're worried about traps.

Single File Order

1st: Hoddy Fonkin (or Shianni Fadrick)
2nd: Baern Holderhek (or Garret Goodbarrel)
3rd: Hess Grimlock
4th: Shianni Fadrick (or Baern Holderhek)
5th: Garret Goodbarrel (or Hoddy Fonkin)
6th: Teasag Galt.

The parentheses are for when we're in trap detecting mood.

What do you guys all think? Sound good?

Wood-Elf Monk 1

Teasag begins to count his darts.

I approve of this deployment.

Also, thank you for taking "point" on this both in and out of game.

Male Halfling Rogue 1

Looks good to me. And I'd like to echo the thanks too

Male HP: 13/13|AC 20/14/16|Init: +5|Fort: +4 Ref: +5 Will: +2|Perception +6, SM: +9| Conditions: Martial Flexibility (10 rounds)

D'awww, thanks guys. I hope I'm not being pushy, I just...want to post more so this allows me to stay focused on game and contribute too :D

So my girlfriend's computer has given up big time, so I will need to be botted for a bit. I'll be out for a week at most, should be back in just a few days though.

Male HP: 13/13|AC 20/14/16|Init: +5|Fort: +4 Ref: +5 Will: +2|Perception +6, SM: +9| Conditions: Martial Flexibility (10 rounds)

I am back! :D

Has anyone heard anything from Vrog yet? I rather not have this die before it even has a chance to get off of the ground...

Male Goblin (Unbreakable) - AC 19(21), HP 28/28, PER +5; F +5, R +10, W +5 Rogue (Mastermind) - SPD 25, Background - Osprey Scribe

Since this is a slow posting game, we might be better off going with group initiatives...

ie...

Group before 14

Bad guys at 14

Everybody else...

Just a thought

Or. If it's someone's time and they haven't responded in 24 or 48 hours then they get botted or moved down in the initiative.

I will be out of pocket this weekend (Friday through Sunday). I have a local convention and will be running PFS for much of it, so I will not be checking in. See everyone on Monday.

As for initiative, we can certainly do group initiative if you folks prefer. I have no issue with that.

Male Halfling Rogue 1

It tends to make life easier.

I've never heard "out of pocket" used to mean busy before. Around these parts it tends to mean broke. You learn something every day!

I'm still here, the game just wasn't updating for me. I'll get a post up right away.

Male HP: 13/13|AC 20/14/16|Init: +5|Fort: +4 Ref: +5 Will: +2|Perception +6, SM: +9| Conditions: Martial Flexibility (10 rounds)

I have looked at the link for Borderlands 2 and I see our tokens but not where the enemies are or how the setup looks at the moment.

Wood-Elf Monk 1

Things seem dire for our Heroes, I am seeing the same in Roll20

Dark Archive

My most profound apologies. That should fix things.

Male HP: 13/13|AC 20/14/16|Init: +5|Fort: +4 Ref: +5 Will: +2|Perception +6, SM: +9| Conditions: Martial Flexibility (10 rounds)

The map looks awesome and I'm really enjoying the effects of line of sight with it! One small thing, it doesn't seem to be taking Darkvision into account. I know most of the party has 60ft worth.
