Sorry, been dealing with out of town relatives for the past three days. Hopefully, I'll be able to eke out some time tomorrow.

Just a note to let everyone know that I am in the direct path of Hurricane Gordon. This should be fairly routine (I've weathered many such storms), but in case we lose power or I am otherwise out for a few days, that's what has happened. If you are in my game, stand tight and I'll be back. If I am in yours, please bot me as necessary.

This is a brief message to let everyone know that I am going to be on vacation from Sunday, 23 September until 1 October. As many of you may be aware, my wife is 90% blind from glaucoma. She wanted to see Walt Disney World through the eyes of friends who have never been (or haven't been in many years) before she can't see at all. So I, she, and 9 of our friends are all going to Walt Disney World for a week!
During this time, my posting will be greatly curtailed, if not nonexistent. If you are in my game, I will continue upon my return, just sit tight. If I am in your game, please feel free to bot me as required.
During this week leading up to my vacation, I will be very busy and may be slowed, but I will try to get a post out before leaving for the week.

Hey there guys. I'm posting this on my phone so I apologize for any mistakes. My laptop has given up the ghost so for now, I will be not be able to post. I do not know how soon can get a new one up and running but I'll do what I can as soon as i can.
I'd like to keep playing but if you have to replace me for a more consistent player, I understand. If that is the case, it has been a pleasure. I'll keep you guys updated as best I can.
KingHotTrash |
Hey there everyone. I'm so sorry for the terrible silence over on my end here, I usually pride myself on my communication skills. This past week though has been probably one of the hardest weeks I've had and been a huge eye-opener for me about the state of my mental health. For that reason, I've decided that I'm going to back off away from online gaming at the moment and focus on taking care of myself.
It has been an absolute pleasure to play and I apologize for the inconvenience of all of this. With that said though, I think it'd be best for me to resign, maintain good relationships with folks, and maybe try coming back once everything is figured out. Thank you guys for having me and I do hope your adventuring goes superbly.

Safe travels, my friend. If you ever want to come back, you will be welcomed.
Now, with the departure of Baern and the fact that Garret hasn't checked in in over two months, I'm going to try to recruit a couple of more players, so we'll hold for a short while. Please feel free to give your input on the replacements and who they should be.
WhtKnt |
Agreed. As someone who lives daily with chronic depression, I know all too well what it means to need some down time.
Galessa |
Hey everyone. On recruitment it was asked for a rogue/Cleric replacement. You all got a rogue/bard.
Would it be preferable for me to switch over to a Dwarven Cleric? If so I can make the switch fairly quickly.
For the Cleric it would be:
* Forge Domain
* Mountain Dwarf
Str (18) Dex (7) Con (17) Int (15) Wis (15) Cha (15)
Spells purely focused on healing. In combat he’d stand next to Baern with hammer and shield.
Brunhild Liefdottir |
Crunch is finished. To be as useful as possible, Brunhild is a Cleric with Disable Device and Knowledge Arcana. She also has Perception as a skill. So she can find and disable mundane and magical traps.
With +7 Hit and 1d8+5 damage she can do fairly well in close combat, and having 22HP with AC18 she can hold the front lines.
For spell casting, I’ve chosen to have 5x healing word. Makes book keeping easy and with Domain spells she can still buff her attacks (1d6 Fire damage) or cast identify as needed.
At lvl4 plan to take magic initiate for Booming Blade / Greenflame Blade (make up for the lack of a second attack) and Find Familiar (for aid action, to again make up for the lack of a second attack)
Background
She is a priestess of Moradin. Born in Citadel Adabar, she is traveling on a holy mission: to discover the lost artifacts of her people and to earn the skill necessary to forge a hammer worthy of a true priestess of the god of the Forge. For this role she has been trained to overcome the traps left behind by her ancestors, and those who inhabit the ruins of her people. She is also, while not a professional warrior, at least trained enough to defend herself on this quest.
Personality
Unlike most dwarves, she is actually fairly pleasant. She is of the belief that anything is attainable through hard work, and that if the past was golden then the future can be too. She is, though, a horrible liar*, and finds the act of threatening others to be distasteful*. She is of the opinion that a conflict can never be resolved through trickery or deception, as it will never stick. Rather, foes must be persuaded or killed, as those are the only two solutions that will last.
* Deception and Intimidate are -2. Those are not skills she will ever be good at.
Hess Grimlock |
And spells are different in 5E. YOu don't have to choose multiple instances of a spell. You prepare spells per day equal to your WIS Modifier plus your Cleric Level. You know all the spells, but you can only prepare this many per day. Then you have spell slots, and your prepared spells may be used in any combination you wish. Your Domain spells are treated as "Always Prepared". In addition there are "Ritual" spells which may be cast without using a slot, but taking extended time. Your character can prepare 3+1 spells from the entire Cleric list per day, and you know 3 Cantrips (Cast unlimited), and have 2- 1st level slots.

checking in with a Bard
Thought we were going to make a new table.
If we need another role, please let me know. I can make another PC, as I'm not fully invested in this guy
Hess Grimlock |
HI all. While I appreciate the LOS / Fog of War combat maps, it's very confusing to keep up with where we are / have been in reference to the entire area. In a Table top game this could easily be solved by someone mapping (Well not so easily, but possible), but PbP would make this difficult unless there is someway to share this map. I know I don't know how, but I'm totally lost as to where we are in this game. When you say "To the North" I don't know where that is...
Still enjoying the game, and it's nice to have a slower paced game, however it would be much more fulfilling to have track of where I am in the dungeon.
WhtKnt |
If it makes it any easier, north is always at the top of the screen for my maps. However, I can switch to using basic directions (left, right). I can also remove the LOS restrictions, and just place the monsters as they are encountered instead of ahead of time, but this does mean that you will see the entirety of the dungeon before exploring it. Give me a day or so, I may have another idea. I'm also open to other suggestions.
Newcomers, stand by for an intro.
WhtKnt |
It has been a very busy week, much of which was spent with my parents whom I was visiting. I have a con this weekend, and I have some family business to take care of next week. I may be a few more days between posts, but don't worry. When I get everything straightened out, I'll be back on the action bandwagon. In the meantime, sit tight, or if I am in your game, please bot me as necessary.

Update: My wife's elderly aunt has been moved into a care facility. My wife and I are tasked with clearing out her room of all her belongings and finding a place to store them. We have about 10 days to do this, and we have our own affairs to worry about as well. To complicate things, she has lost several savings bonds and other important papers (like her will) in her room, so we can't just go in and bulldoze the place. We have to look for the papers as we pack. It's slow going and very tedious, so until we get the room vacated, my posting will be limited, but I will try to keep pace as much as possible.

Posting this to all my games, so sorry if you see it multiple times:
This week both my office and I personally are going to be moving. It's been crazy busy and I am not going to be able to post until Monday at the earliest. Please bot me if I am in your game, and if you are in a game I am running, I will get a post up as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience.

Damn roll20...
So a heads up. I can’t get it to work on my computer. This is an issue in another game of mine. Just an endless loading screen. While I’ll try to get through the issue, no promises. I understand if this is a deal breaker and you’d like to find a player who can access the map.
Shianni Fadrick |
If you're trying it in IE, try a different browser (You may well have, but I thought I'd suggest it in any case). IE apparently isn't compatible with Roll20 anymore.
Brunhild Liefdottir |
Firefox and Chrome. Ever since my computer broke and I took my wife’s old one, I’ve found it impossible to get on. :(
Shianni Fadrick |
So I am posting from work:
Apologies about not posting sooner, but I have been down internet wise for roughly a week, and will not have internet back up yet for a week or so.
This means that I haven't had internet for the last 4 days (as we had 4 days off at my work for the holiday).
It's been...an experience where I learned that I use the internet more than I thought I did.
With all of that being said, I will try to post from work as I can, but if I am in your game, please bot me as needed.
If I am running your game, please bear with me while I try to post when I can. Hopefully, sooner than better, but I want to be up front about this issue.
again, I apologize about the delay.
WhtKnt |
No worries, Shianni, and Brunhild, I'm working around the problem in another game with a player who can't access R20, so I'll try to be extra-descriptive for you.
WhtKnt |
A belated Merry Christmas to everyone! I've healed up everybody and given an extra 5 hit points that will be removed first as a one-time bonus!
Brunhild Liefdottir |
I’ve got a build plan. Just want to make sure it works.
Lvl 4: Magic Initiate Wizard
* At-Will: Booming Blade (You make a single melee weapon attack against a creature you can see in range. If the attack hits, the target is surrounded by magical energy, and it can't willingly move or it takes 1d8 thunder damage. The spell ends after dealing damage or at the start of your next turn, whichever is sooner. At 5th level, the melee attack deals an extra 1d8 thunder damage, and the moving damage becomes 2d8. Both damage dice increase by one again at levels 11 and 17)
* Prestidigitation
* 1/day Find Familiar (picking a bat, takes “Aid” action each turn giving Brunhild advantage on attack rolls)
———-
Lvl 4: Advantagw To Hit: +7 Damage: 2d8+5
Lvl 5: Advantage To Hit: +8 Damage: 3d8+5
Lvl 6: +1 AC (Forge Cleric)
Lvl 8: Advantage To Hit: +9 Damage: 4d8+6 (divine strike)
Lvl 14: Advantage To Hit: +10 Damage: 5d8+6
Lvl 17: Advantage To Hit: +11 Damage: 6d8+6
The idea being that unlike a fighter she will only get 1 attack a turn, but it will be very likely to hit and will deal fairly strong damage. With plate, shield and Cleric she will have AC21 (fairly tanky) and she can then focus her spells on healing and party buffs.
Does all of that look legit? I’m a veteran of pathfinder but am still fairly new to D&D5e
Hess Grimlock |
I'll go along with the group on this one, but did you guys look at how many orcs there are potentially in that room? I'm not sure that our party of 2nd level characters is ready for this challenge. I would suggest an orderly...I mean panicked withdrawal.
I see at least 15 from where Hess is standing, and no telling how big this room is or how many others might lurk there. Maybe we come back later when they are not massed for defense like that, or explore another cave for the moment, and come back here when we're stronger. This smells of a TPK...
Shianni Fadrick |
I am posting this to all of my games, so apologies if you see this multiple times:
Unfortunately, I have some bad news.
A combination of work-related stuff has lead to me having to take some time off from the forums. I am, in all honesty, going to need to be gone for several months, as I am going to be travelling for extended periods of time (weeks or more) and I'll likely not have good access to the internet.
As I am not someone who would want to have you all sit and wait for me here, I am going to be withdrawing/closing all of my open forum games.
I want to thank everyone who I have had the pleasure to game with over the last couple of years here, as I have immensely enjoyed my time on the forums, and hopefully, once my work stabilizes, I will be able to rejoin the community.
Thank you again for your time and energy, and I am sorry that I won't be able to keep things moving forward in any of the games that I am running.
Hess Grimlock |
Little help here all. I truly believe this is going to be a TPK unless the GM decides to intervene. If this happens are you going to make new characters... and/or continue with the game. If so then Hess is inclined to run away. If not then he'll stick it out and die with the rest.
Landau Carmycal |
Yep still here. Sleep is risky with lots of extra orcs to wake them up.
I try not to meta game. We have a pile of orcs in front of us. If we leave, we're guaranteeing those dwarves are dead. Landau is not ready to do that.
That's how I'm playing it.
Hess Grimlock |
I was thinking a fighting withdrawal. The Dwarves made a mistake by taking the fight to them without knowing what they were up against. If we all die, there is nobody to avenge us. There is no guarantee that the orcs will pursue us if we leave their den... however it looks as though we're standing to fight, so I'll do so. Just really like this character and feel like I'm committing suicide :-)
Brunhild Liefdottir |
Well fleeing is an option. It’s just that if we win Brunhild will call him a coward. ;)
How many orcs are there? I can’t get on roll20...
