The Borderlands… an untamed wild region far flung from the comforts and protection of civilization. A lone fortified keep is the only bastion of good desperately striving to maintain the forces of chaos at bay. But evil is everywhere, lurking in dark caves, fetid swamps, and forlorn forests. Bands of cutthroat brigands and ruthless tribes of humanoids eager to clash with the forces of good rove the region. The Borderlands hold many secret wondrous locations, and the opportunities for fame, prestige, and fortune are plentiful. But equally abundant are the perils, risks, and challenges to those brave enough to explore the wilds.

Sharpen your swords and axes. Purchase your iron rations and tinderboxes... and don’t forget to bring at least one 10-foot pole. Adventure awaits those with the mettle to confront chaos in the Borderlands!

The Stretching Goat is the tavern in the Keep. This can be used for out-of-character discussion, as well as RPing until the players are chosen. Role-playing will not have any effect on my decisions, but you are welcome to do so.

While I'm here, this seems as good a place as any to put my rules.

RULES

  • It is one thing to play in character, it is another entirely to be a jerk. Don't be a jerk.
  • If something is in a spoiler that doesn't apply to you, please don't read it. If you don't speak that language, don't read the spoiler. You may read the Dice Rolls spoiler, as I will put all rolls there.
  • Likewise, you may not, under any circumstances, read the GM Screen spoilers. These contain notes to me about the encounter or other pertinent GM info.
  • I know that there are ways to cheat the dice roller. If I catch you doing it, you will be blacklisted from all of my games. This goes for all other forms of cheating. Play fair and have fun!
  • Please don't metagame. I don't mind that you may have played these classic adventures, but your characters haven't. Please keep that in mind.
  • That's it. Pretty simple, yes?

By the way, I want to applaud Daniel Stewart (Hoddy Fonkin) for his choice of character names, an excellent homage to old-school adventuring.

Back in the day, there was an NPC named "Fonkin Hoddypeak," originally written as a pre-generated character for one of the old 1e modules (I believe that it was the Giants series). I don't know if his name is a deliberate reference to this character, or simply a happy accident, but either way, good job!

Alrighty, I have assembled a shopping list if people are interested in giving their opinions. I'm going to make one with a potion of healing included

- Potion Of Healing (50gp)
- Hammer (1gp)
- 20 pitons (1gp)
- 100 pieces of chalk (1gp)
- Pole, 10ft (5cp)
- Mirror, Steel (5gp)
- 6 sacks (6cp)
- Shovel (5gp)
- 1lb of flour (2cp)
- 1 donkey (8gp)
- 1 cart (15gp)
- 1 chest (5gp)
- Chain, 10ft (5gp)
- Lock (10gp)

Some of the items are a little more situational (flour to try and find secret doors or hidden enemies, the chain and lock to close up a door so we can safely rest or lock the chest full of our loot). This would cost 91gp, 1 sp, and 5cp to buy in total. Any suggestions, my good folks?

All looks reasonable to me. I might suggest adding a bell (1gp) and some string to set an alarm.

Posting this to all my games: Sorry for the lack of posting. For the second time this year, I got the flu, and the internet is out at my house right now (where it has been for the last two days). It should hopefully be resolved by Monday, and if not I'm going to switch ISPs. I will be out of pocket this weekend (Friday through Sunday). I have a local convention and will be running PFS for much of it, so I will not be checking in. See everyone on Monday.

As for initiative, we can certainly do group initiative if you folks prefer. I have no issue with that.

The map looks awesome and I'm really enjoying the effects of line of sight with it! One small thing, it doesn't seem to be taking Darkvision into account. I know most of the party has 60ft worth.
