Deep in the Mindspin Mountains, a storm giant warlord known as the Storm Tyrant has seized control of a cloud castle and an Orb of Dragonkind, and is gathering an army of giants from across western Avistan—first to bring the orc hordes of Belkzen under his banner, then to conquer the neighboring realms. Heroes defending the human town of Trunau from an orc raid discover that the attack is just a precursor to the Storm Tyrant’s larger plans. Working their way through an abandoned border fort, an ancient giant temple, the tomb of an undead frost giant, and an elite fire giant training facility beneath a dormant volcano, the heroes eventually take the fight to the Storm Tyrant himself inside his flying fortress. Can the giant army be defeated before it can conquer the human lands of the Inner Sea, or will all of Avistan bow down in fealty to the Storm Tyrant?

We've been at this decision for a while, I if no one has any ideas we vote between trying to stealthy lift the gate and attack, smoke them out, or wait upstairs as an ambush. I vote for smoke them out since its more chaotic.

"Perhaps some Obscuring Mist to surprise our quarry?" finishes, some bestial quality coming forth in his voice as he shifts into a hunting mentality.

"Obscuring mist doesn't last very long. Perhaps we should use that once we've gotten the gate open to cover our approach so we can attack before they get a chance to see us.

I suggest we open the gate and go after them. If there's another exit that we haven't see yet, both other plans result in them getting away and we can't risk that. We should open the gate, head through, then lay down obscuring mist as the fight starts so we have cover to hit them first.

"I like that plan, Aisha. We charge in like bats out of the Nine Hells and mist them," Norasha said, agreeing with the half-orc.

She readied herself as she prepared to lead the charge, saying, "Just be careful. If our foes were speaking Giant, then it's possible we might run into something that likes to pick on people who are smaller than it. I'll lead the charge."

The dwarven paladin adjusted her shield.

That plan should hopefully work. Norasha will charge forward as soon as we open the gate. If there are any giants, then Norasha will charge straight at them, since she has the most potential to lay down some pain, what with her traits and skills.

Norasha dashes through the portal and swings at the smaller figure, her blow connecting and eliciting a grunt of pain. Aisha prepares to cast lesser confusion only to find that she cannot see her target. Corric's first attack connects and the larger opponent growls menacingly in response. Taking advantage of the fact that the opponents are caught by surprise, Rokar and Milani take up flanking positions and attack mercilessly, bringing low the smaller of the two opponents.

The remaining opponent swings wildly at Corric with both arms. One clawed hand connects with the halfling, inflicting a grievous wound! Corric takes 8 points of damage.

If I need line of sight for most of my spells and obscuring mist counts as not having line of sight, I'm not exactly sure what to do here. If I'd known most of my combat options were going to be shut down by this plan, I would have suggested something else.

Aisha frowns as she can't seem to attack the enemy's mind. That's certainly never happened before. She half-heartedly launched a telekinetic bullet through the mist, hoping not to hit anyone on her side.

I'm going to make the ruling that line of sight will be affected by obscuring mist, because the spell specifically states that an attacker cannot use sight to locate a target at a distance greater than 5 feet.

Norasha's attack misses the foe by mere inches, the larger creature being quite agile despite its size. Aisha flings a telekinetic bullet at the creature, hitting it in the side of the head and drawing it's attention. Corric snags one of the long limbs, attempting to scramble up the creature's body, but a shrug throws him aside. The same cannot be said for Rokar and Milani, who tear into the creature. Blood flows freely and when the melee stalls, the creature lies bleeding on the ground.

Being a dwarven paladin I don't think Norasha would be okay killing the half Orc in cold blood but I'm going to have think the other be some sort of troll although she doesn't know what kind of troll so using fire and acid on it might backfire and actually heal the troll!

Norasha scratched her chin in thought.

"Not sure I like killing in cold blood, unless me be doing a mercy kill. Still, the big one looks like a troll, although I could be wrong. If it be a troll then even hacking off its head won't kill it. Only things I know of that can truly kill a troll would be acid and fire. As for the other one," she says pointing her axe at the downed half-orc, "Might tell us some useful information. Best strip him of his belongings and tie him up before we wake him up. Which reminds me, why is a bloody troll doing in this haunted place?"

Once certaint hat even he would have a hard time breaking, or slipping through those bonds, he brought up the topic of countermeasures.

"After all, just being tied up is good and all, but being tied up around a pit of spiders adds something special to it."

Of course there was no pit of spiders, but Corric thinks he got his idea across.

Welcome to the OOC and discussion area for Giantslayer. I have decided to wait until after GenCon to kick things off, but in the meantime, I have some homework for everyone. I would like for each of the chosen to make a "wishlist" of goodies that you would eventually like to obtain. I will use these lists to alter the treasures found in the adventure to better suit the characters. You can send them to me in PM or put them here.

I think it might be useful if we think of items that would benefit each other as well as for ourselves.

Or we can share ideas with each other on what might benefit another's character. Just tossing ideas out there.

Hello! I will also be traveling to gencon this year! I'm going to be leaving on Wednesday, July 29th and make the return trip on August 2nd. It should be fun!

As far as specialty items, my only request would be for weapons and armor that Roseline could use (Simple weapons, tridents, light armor, medium armor, and shields). I'm pretty self-sufficient otherwise.

I look forward to playing through this adventure with everyone! My only regret is that there are currently no avatars of smiling half-orcs for me to choose.

Thanks. It's pretty basic stuff that usually ends up in the game anyways, but now hopefully that'll be stuff he wont swap out! The ring of feather falling is important though as the draconic bloodline offers a ton of ways to fly, including the perma-wings at level 15 (or level 11 with that robe of arcane heritage *waggles eyebrows in the form of a subtle hint*)

Thank you! I thought it best to ask as I was tempted to put the Axe of the Dwarvish Lords on my list but since the axe is located far from this adventure plus the GM's answer I decided not to put artifacts on my list. Besides there are some good ones already in the adventure.

Also if I remember my giant lore correctly there aren't many giants who are immune to acid...hmmm...I might need to think about corrosive weapons.

What do the rest of you think?

I was thinking about acid too, but for different reasons. I'm mainly looking for the various natural weapon enhancements, so while the classic Amulet of Mighty Fists & Bodywrap of Mighty Strikes makes the list, so do Deliquescent Gloves (which would be my source of acid). Cloak of Fangs would be a nice later game pickup since I won't be using iterative attacks (just the 2 claws), and I like the idea of a Ring of Tactical Precision. Might as well throw a Runestone of Power & Page of Spell Knowledge on the list too.

I'm also interested in the more tracking/survival oriented gear, so something like a Lens of Detection is flavorful and useful, and I wouldn't say no to a saddle, barding/bracers of armor, or some other goodies for my animal companion either.

Zeviel is most certainly okay with all of you going for acid. All the better to overthrow you all later when she gains immunity! I mean uh... wat?

Zeviel's taken the green dragon powers for her draconic bloodline and the acid energy for the elemental bloodline (crossblooded! woo!) so she's got acid damage all over the place. It seemed the best choice for the AP.

nice image Zeviel what program did you use?

I need to do a better wish list, I was just thinking a couple of keen weapons, thinking short swords, Keep wanting to go kukri's but I would need to burn a feat, any opinions?

My big concern is finding gear for a small character!

Boram you could use a short sword and a dagger, or even a punching dagger.

I know that there are a couple of wondrous items that might work for you though. Miser's mask might be a good idea as well as belt of tumbling and trapspringer's gloves. Gloves of reconnaissance might prove handy.

But yeah I know what you mean. Always hard to find items for small characters.

Small characters can be a b$!#% to find gear for unless you've got a campaign with a lot of goblins. I think it'd be great if you could take some skills in something that would allow you to jury rig over-sized things to make them usable (like break off the top half of a blade, use rope to tie armor on if it's too big, etc)

Yeah I probably went overboard with the items. But this is probably want I'm feel that Norasha would have at the end of the adventure path. Dwarfbound Hammer would prove useful as well as the gauntlets of the weaponsmaster as that would allow me to store any artifact weapons we come across.

Now both the helm of insight and ring of sacred protection are custom items but they are both legal as I've checked. I hope that's okay. I felt that since we're going against a storm giant warlord, it makes sense to have some energy resistance and spell resistance is always to good to have around.

Why bracers of the avenging knight you may ask? Because in every single AP I've read there's always undead, and well channelling lay on hands through a holy weapon will mean bad news for any undead foe we meet. Lion's shield I think will prove handy, and I added dragonslayer's shield as while Norasha may use the lion's shield someone else might benefit from it as well.

Good choice with all the AC buffing items, Norasha. I guess I left it out of my list, but any AC-improving item, armor or otherwise, would be greatly welcomed by Rokar. He's relatively squishy, at least compared to some of you guys!

Borum the Burglar’s wish list.

There are many Wounderous Items that help a Burglar out, just listed a few, anything of that nature would be wonderful.
Robe of Infinite Twine
belt of incredible dexterity
Traveler's Any-Tool
Burglar Boots
Trapspringers Gloves
Eyes of Keen Sight
Duelists Vambraces

There are several armor’s that would work well for a Burglar: Mistmail, Enchanted Eelskin, Boneless Leather, Murderer’s Blackcloth, but my favorite was: Catskin Leather

Borum’s primary weapons will be either shortswords or daggers, I haven’t decided yet, I really like: Dagger of Doubling if he went daggers, and Gloom Blade if he focuses on short swords. Of course dagger or shortsword with Keen or Giant-bane would be excellent also.

@Rokar Thank you! I figure that since we are going up against giants whose attacks pack a whallop it's best to have as much AC as possible. Cloak of displacement also factors in as well since I'll mainly be on the frontlines. And that's a good idea too. And sorry to hear about the errata. What happen to those abilties?

@Boram Excellent choices! I see you picked Trapspringer's gloves. Good idea there. I would never have thought of Robe of Infinite Twine or Duelist's Vambraces. You did a great deal of research into your choices.

@Everyone Just curious here, I know who our cleric and warpriest worship but what about everyone else?

@Zeviel just curious here, but what is your alignment? I don't think I saw it.

Animal Soul went from: "spells that affect animals can affect you" to "you can choose to not let spells that wouldn't affect animals affect or not affect you". So now if someone cast's Dominate Person on you, or something similar, you can ignore it. The old way, you could be the target of Animal-only spells like Animal Growth, etc. Pretty big change thematically.

Spirit's Gift went from "get a bonus during the next 24 hrs" to "get a bonus once during the next 24 hrs, activated as a standard action, and for a number of minutes/level". Ouch.

Rokar doesn't specifically worship a deity. Between his childhood experiences and his time as a hunter in Trunau, he's come to see that in Nature, the strong survive. He's got a self-determined moral code in which he strives to be a good member of his community, but he's not above bringing retribution to those who've done wrong, or squandered goodwill.

Rokar doesn't deny the existence of gods, which would be rather hard to do in Golarion, but he doesn't see them as infallible. Instead, he appreciates the good things that people gifted with divine power choose to do, like clerics and others, and believes that his own powers come not from a deity, but from Nature itself.

Yup, a lot of green faith ideas (but none of the official organization) with a little humanism and the Golarion version of atheism mixed in. I chose the the Totem Guide archetype on my animal companion to really drive home the point.

If I'm not playing a cleric (or a member of organized religion), I normally don't spend a lot of time thinking about deities. I would say that Boram follows "Chaldira Zuzaristan" because of his Halfling parentage, the domains of Good, Luck and Trickery and her close association with Desna. Of course, on a bad day he may throw a curse from "Thamir" at someone.

I'm back. Pardon for the unseemly break. I had a lot of fun but walked back into a hornet's nest of family issues, but that's neither here nor there.

GenCon was a lot of fun, and I have the blister on my foot to prove it.

Anyway, in the interim, one of my players has had to drop out (papajohn41). Some of you may have guessed this is my father and unfortunately, his health will not permit him to continue. So, I turn to the rest of you to help me determine who should replace him.
