Harqen manages to shutdown some of the sources of necromantic energy before he is locked out, resulting in a necromantic aura that is now less powerful.
Exiting the cargo bay, you see that the branching corridors inside the Endless Threnody are not made of solid bulkheads of metal and plastic, but of a lattice of enchanted bone and steel. A metal grating on the floor provides stable footing, but the walls have gaps large enough to fit a fist.
The passages split and recombine in a manner eerily reminiscent of being inside a giant rib cage.

The graphic display on Neon's vacuum-sealed faceplate switches to a laughing skull, mimicking the skeletal nature of the crew's opponents. "At least you'll go out in a blaze of glory!" His aura begins to pulsate much like it did in their first fight back on the station, and he advances 10 feet, manifesting his weapon as he does so before taking a swing at the nearest foe.

I suppose this is a good time to mention that, if given the opportunity, Vchk will take a reaction to protect Harqen from any attacks of the skeletal crew as per the Bodyguard feat. GM, you can assume Vchk would take this action whenever he's adjacent to Harqen and the ysoki is targeted by an attack, but I'll try to explicitly append a reminder to my posts whenever applicable.

Botting Watdems and putting her on delay
Neon Punk enters the port section of the Endless Threnody. Spying one of the remaining undead crew members, he strikes without warning with his solarion solsword and destroys the nearest undead with a single strike!
Upon observing the boarding Starfinders, the remnants of the crew of the Endless Threnody stop their lurking within the halls of the heavily damaged vessel and swiftly move to attack the intruders! The five remaining skeletal crewmen each take a move action.
The two remaining skeletal crewman in the port corridor swarm the vidstar newcomer. "Skulls! We neeed your skuuuuuuulls." the one moans (orange) as he swipes at the Starfinder with his bony claw.
Melee attack (claw) v. Neon Punk KAC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Damage (claw)(S): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"Withouuuuuuut themmmm, we are stuuuuuck here.", moans the second undead (yellow0. He too tries to claw the Starfinder that he had observed end the undead life(?) of a crewmate.
Melee attack (claw) v. Neon Punk KAC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Damage (claw)(S): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Both attacks fail to find their mark against the vidstar.
Seeing only Ozei before him, the skeletal crewman (green) in the central corridor, which houses a central computer panel, attacks.
Melee attack (claw) v. Ozei KAC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Damage (claw)(S): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Damage (claw)(S): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
The undead's claw rips through the flesh of the female solarion! "Soooon yoooour bones will powwwwer our daaaamaged vessel!", the undead moans.
Two skeletal crew wandering the starboard corridor each move forward toward Vchk. One(purple) attacks.
Melee attack (claw) v. Vchk KAC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Damage (claw)(S): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

He falls for the ysoki’s trick attack, then falls to pieces. “Noooooo!” he cries in his undying unbreath, “What good is having fast healing if you never get to use it?!?” It seems that during the space battle, another portion of the fourth wall was damaged.
Zapp’s laser fire momentarily lights up the corridor, showing off the new skull highlights that one of the skeletal crew (red)just had done, really making them stand out! However, when he realizes that he has been singled out for attacks, he cries out in a gravelly, “Noooo! I’m not wearing a red shirt, it is just the border!” As if on cue, Watdem’s negligent use of tobacco products (Is it safe to assume its tobacco… ?) lights the highlights on the not-red-shirted crewmember as well as the not-cowardly-it-is-just-the-border crewmember behind him!

COMBAT OVER
GM Valen |
With the last of the skeletal crew defeated, the ship falls eerily quiet.
Both Vchk and Tarqen suddenly realize that parts of their bodies, those closest to the starboard, exterior wall, have gone numb with cold. Each took 1 point of cold damage during the battle (I forgot to include it earlier)
The bridge of the Endless Threnody is located behind the enormous crimson eye at the front of the ship, bathed in a blood-red glow. The crew stations are fabricated from bone and steel, apparently grown from the floor and walls of this room. Battle damage is evident throughout the bridge, but it is now empty and utterly silent—truly a ghost ship.
A small red light flickers on what you assume was the captain’s chair. Next to it, is a nice, big red button! Do you press it? Do you press it? Do you press it?
“Ah, yes. Come in Doctor…,” the captain’s voice continues,
“What are you doing here? No, seriously, what are you doing here. This is a ship of full of only undead. What made you think we needed a doctor of all things?!?”
“Undammit, Limb! I’m a doctor, not a philosopher!” a gravely, undead voice replies. “I didn’t come here to discuss metaphysics! This isn’t about me, it’s about our science officer!”
“Mr. Spook? What is it?”
“Yes… well….”, doctor’s voice hesitates for a moment, ”He.. uh.. stepped outside.”
“Stepped outside? What do you mean ‘he stepped outside’?”, the captain’s voice asks.
“I mean, he stepped outside.. of the ship. He left. He exited. He extricated himself. He spaced himself!”
”I… see.”, responds the captain’s voice. “What do you think made him do it?”
”Who knows what goes on in that skull-kin head of his…”
”He’s only half skull-kin,” the captain’s voice corrects.
“Half skull-kin head of his,” the doctor’s voice corrects.
“It’s just not logical!”
“Well… tell me what happened.”, the captain’s voice instructs.
”It was… pardon my Infernal… the darned-est thing! He had just tried and tried and tried to target the other ship’s life support system. Then, the next thing I knew, he just stepped off of the ship!" replies the other voice.
“You’re not trying to rib me are you, Doctor?”
”Of course not, Limb. I don’t find this at all to be url=http://www.cs.rpi.edu/~kleine/anatomy/bones.html] humerus [/url].” The doctor’s voice pauses for a moment, before continuing. ”The saddest part of all is, while he was leaving, I could have sworn that I saw the Eye-Beam™ strike the enemy’s ship’s life-support systems!”
“Did you try to tell him that… before he left?”, the captain’s voice inquires.
“I couldn’t.” the other responds, “I just didn’t have the heart" !
The sound of straining metal can be heard on the recordings.
“I think we’re being boarded!” the captain’s voice says.
”Wait! Where are you going?”
”I’m stepping out.” comes the response.
”Hold on!” the captain responds. ”There is something I have to do.”
A short click can be heard and the captain’s voice now has a definite echo, as if it were being broadcast over a ship’s comm system, ”This is your captain speaking, Limb Quirk! We are being boarded. You must repel these invaders. We will fight down to the last mandible!”
A second click and the captain’s voice returns to normal, “Still stepping out, Doctor? If so, mind if I join you?
The recording then goes static.
Just beyond the captain's chair lies the bridge computer system.
GM Valen |
Assuming you analyze the bridge computer…
You find quickly that this bridge computer is a secured tier-1 computer system. To access any data within it (like, for instance, any coordinates to a missing Starfinder vessel’s crash site), you need to first gain access to the system.
Gaining access to the system requires a successful skill check, either Computers or Mysticism check.
Continue the above skill checks until your roll has uncovered the spoiler that says, “Success”! You may then proceed.
Bypassing the bridge computer security system requires a second, successful skill check, either Computers(or Mysticism check.

GM Valen |
Edited spoiler in my prior post to correct some typos.
PCs receive the Lawblight Data clue. Well done. I figured the fight with the skeletal crew would go fast, but... wow!
Upon returning to the bridge of the Loreseeker, you are greeted by a warm, bluish glow---the hologram of Venture-Captain Arvin already active and appears to be waiting for you. He appears to be making a mental tally of the number of Starfinders entering the bridge. A frown, followed by a slow, unpleasant eye-roll follows his spotting some of the surviving crew.
"Didn't you just leave the ship like..." The holographic figure looks down at his wrist, apparently forgetting that no one has worn a watch for centuries. "... five minutes ago? What are you doing back already?", he asks.
"Did someone forget his vacuum suit?" He looks directly at Zapp. "Or did someone suddenly have to use the lavatory?" He now looks at Watdems. The hologram points to the door to the lavatory, which stands just off to the side of the bridge of the Loreseeker and has a prominent "No Smoking" sign displayed upon it.

The holographic image looks at Vchk blankly for a moment. Then, it responds in a slow, methodical and audible manner, "You will have to use audible words.". The holographic Venture-Captain holds up his hand, opening and closing it like a puppet, "Neither the ship nor the Drift beacon are able to transmit your telepathic communications. And what kind of stuff did you get on that hammer?"
”In any event,” the holo-Arvin continues, “I want you all to board the Endless Threnody and uncover some info on the location of the Unbound Wayfarer. Those were my orders!" The holo-face of the holo-Arvin appears to be getting holo-angry.
Harqen Taabestuun |
"Venture-Captain Arvin ... you know that I wanted to blow holes in something and to be honest I did that pretty poorly but the other guys here, especially Neon Punk, Ozei and Vchk, wanted to create bone dust instead so to answer your question: The undead are f****g dead now and we have the data on the location of the Unbound Wayfarer and even more thanks to our computer genius Watdems!"
GM Valen |
“Oh, really?” Arvin responds to Tarqen, raising an eye-brow as if about to go into shock. “If that is the case, then... um.. way to blow... I mean... I am grateful...really...um... excellent work,” he eventually manages to utter, although the eyes of his holographic image appear to be drawn to one of the oxygen masks still dangling from the ceiling of the Loreseeker bridge. No one every said that they put the masks back. : P
Suddenly, there is a thump, rattle, and scraping sound coming from the forward viewport as the skeletal body of an undead being, dressed in a ragged version of a doctor’s coat, strikes the front of the viewport window.
His undead unlips seems to muttering something over and over again.
A second thump, rattle, and scrape can be heard as another undead now hits the front of the viewport window--this one wearing a captain's uniform.
Then, as the ship hums forward in the Drift, the two undead are slowly dragged across the viewport window towards the window’s edge, before disappearing out of site.
After conveying a quizzical look, the holographic image of the Venture-Captain resumes moving its mouth in sync with the lashunta man’s voice, “Please send me any information that you obtained from the data banks about the crash site of the Unbounded Wayfarer.” Venture-Captain Arvin requests. “I am eager to get started on the next step of this quest with some new agen…er, I mean, new…. new…” The Venture-Captain struggles for a good while, before saying, ”Angles! I meant to say, ‘angles’. Some new angles, would help with the next step of this quest?” Noticing that Neon Punk’s vidrecorder appears to be on, Arvin seems rather pleased with his recovery.
“I wish to research the planet identified by the undead and determine how best to approach it.”, he continues. “Therefore, you are to leave the Endless Threnody and return to Absalom Station. In the meantime, as an additional reward, you will find, under the captain’s chair of the Loreseeker, a concealed compartment. It is impregnable and cannot be opened without the proper password, which I will transmit to Vchk. Now… where is it… I have it written down here…” The holographic Venture-Captain quickly checks his pockets and pats down his person until he produces a small scrap of paper. Holding it up to his eyes, he picks up a comm unit and begins to enter some information.
“There,” the holographic Venture-Captain says, ”You should have it now.” Despite his words, Arvin continues to type.
End of Quest the Third
GM Valen |
The next quest starts back on Absalom Station on another ship out in deep space. So, feel free to describe the trip back and any activities on the station when you return that take place before the next mission. The PCs will have several days in game time before the next quest to make repairs, purchase items, heal up, etc.
Let me know of any changes prior to Quest 4, which I will probably start tomorrow since this one wrapped so quickly. Good job again, everyone.
There aren't many opportunities for roleplay in the next quest, so this is a good opportunity to get some in while I prep for the next quest. Feel free to re-visit any NPCs on the station or meet some new ones if you'd like until then.
Vchk |
Vchk makes a great show of entering the passcode, eventually unsealing the compartment of glorious snacks. Before passing them out, he receives a second message.
{"Well, would ya look at that. Zapp? Wat? It appears that you've been assigned to hull repair duty - there's some suits in the airlock. The rest of us are, uh, assigned to analyze the contents of this very boring and totally not edible storage locker. VC's instructions, it appears."}
Harqen Taabestuun |
"Ok ... so ... so where do you guys live on Absolom station?! We could have a beer together before our new mission starts!"
Zapp Brannigan, Nameless Man |
Wow, that was a lot of posts. And quite the flavor, too! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to rewatch the entirety of TOS...
Zapp remains mercifully and strangely quiet through the computing. Perhaps he is ruing how he bullied that poor undead so.
Sense Motive: 0 = 0
Ha, you think you've won, Vchk. But you just assigned Zapp to fix an essential part of the ship.
"Fine, fine, if that is what Arvin wants. A downfall of being exceptional, I suppose," he grouses at his unlucky assignment. "If you find any snacks during or after your analysis, I will of course be entitled to a captain's share. Especially in the case of ice cream. I'm contractually obligated to two scoops for every one another crewman receives."
Throughout his task, the rest of the crew may notice his vital monitors flatline as some minor disaster befalls him, only to be incorrect. They were prematurely excited too, it seems.
Neon Punk |
Neon chuckles at Vee’s comments and politely declines the snackage. “Zapp, be careful of rogue Comet Snipes! They’ll pick you off if you don’t keep your eyes peeled.” Meanwhile, he sets up a memo on his comm unit: See Jul, re:Star Citadel VII.
“Actually, I don’t live on the Station. I just rent a room near the Lorespire Complex when I’m around - my family’s back on Verces.”
Vchk |

"I live in a nursing home in the Downlows. These fools keep signing me out every once in awhile." Watdems spits, referring to the Starfinders. "Take me away from my shows..." She slowly begins wheeling herself with an electronic stick attached to the armrest. Revealing to all but herself that her hoverround had been electric this whole time and Zapp didn't need to push her at all.
Zapp Brannigan, Nameless Man |
"As I am currently between homes, the Society has been gracious enough to let me stay in the Complex," Zapp adds. He seems a bit sore that he had to touch Wat's chair without needing to. "The Armada ship under my command exploded in a very heroic manner."
GM Valen |
Shortly after returning to Absalom Station, you are once again summoned to the starport by Venture-Captain Arvin. Upon arrival, you see Venture-Captain Arvin standing next to the entry ramp of a starship, one larger than the Loreseeker.
“This is theOydssey, a Drake-class ship that's heavier and better armed than the last Starfinder vessel that you were entrusted with." He sighs deeply and gives a stern look at Wats.
"Unfortunately, THAT vessel was still undergoing repairs when the repair crew began to register complaints about the smell of smoke and another odor that they could describe only as 'rather funky'. The Loreseeker has since been removed from active duty for… extensive detailing."
"So, I am assigning you to the Odyssey." He says as he waves his hands over the side of the starship affectionately. "Given its heavy armor and more powerful shields, I KNOW that you can't possibly run into anything that could damage THIS ship. Furthermore, it has a state-of-the-art stain-free seat pads, residue eliminating shower-nanites, and a magically-enhanced air filtration system that prevents ANY smells from lingering. Thus, it seems like the perfect vessel for you crack... er, I mean.. your crack team. Yeah, that's it. That's what I mean to say."
"Based on your previous mission, we’ve obtained information about the planet of Ulmarid.” Arvin explains. ”All you have to do is head there and investigate the wreckage of the Unbounded Wayfarer. The desert world has breathable atmosphere but is devoid of intelligent civilization.” And it will remain so, even after you land on it, he notes, mentally.
”Take good care of this ship. It is among the pride of the remaining Starfinder fleet,” Arvin says aloud. “Since you are heading out into the Vast, you will be well beyond the range of this Station or any Drift beacon. Therefore, I have placed a pre-recorded, holographic message aboard the ship that you are to activate once you enter the orbit of Ulmarid.”
“The message can only be activated upon entry of the proper password, which I will transmit to Vchk. Now… where is it… I have it written down here…” The Venture-Captain quickly checks his pockets and pats down his person until he produces a small scrap of paper. Holding it up to his eyes, he picks up a comm unit and begins to enter some information.
“There,” the Venture-Captain says, “You should have it now.” Despite his words, Arvin continues to type.
Watdems Faegneencuth |
Watdems burps loudly and her lips and jowls quiver as she spits a small piece of sketchy meat onto the floor. Wiping her face she looks to the others. "OYDESSEY IS MY OTHER FAVORITE ROMANCE BOOK." She screams next to Zapp. She nudges the man. "Though nothing beats 500 Shades of Grey." She winks at the man. "Now come. Push me to the shuttle so we can talk more."

Always nice to have a ship upgrade. Thank you, Venture-Captain.
Vchk |
After receiving the VC's messages (both technological and telepathic) the shirren nods. {"I will do everything within my power, sir, although some challenges are beyond my capabilities."}
As Vchk boards the ship, he pauses and looks back to the Venture-Captain. {"I've noticed that your briefings no longer contain a Q & A. That's a wise decision, I feel."} With a light-hearted waggle of his antennas, the shirren boards the Odyssey and finds his bunk.
Zapp Brannigan, Nameless Man |
"I've got to agree with you on that one," Zapp whispers back. "A quality work of literature if I've ever heard one."
"It's all good Venture-Captain, we'll see the job through to the end." The man quickly prepares for liftoff by finding his new captain's chair.

The Odyssey and, after a considerable amount of travel time, leaves the Drift and approaches the system containing the coordinates for the planet Ulmarid.
Picture and stats for Odyssey have been posted in Slides.
Assuming that Vchk enters the password upon reaching the designated coordinates…
Venture-Captain Arvin’s pre-recorded hologram stands on the bridge of the Odyssey, his hands clasped behind his back. The programmed image begins to recite, “Hopefully your journey was uneventful. Based on your previous mission, we’ve obtained information about the planet of Ulmarid. The desert world has breathable atmosphere but is devoid of intelligent civilization. A cloud of asteroids—leftovers from a collision of the planet’s moons long ago—surrounds the planet, so you must carefully navigate the Odyssey to the surface to find the crashed Unbounded Wayfarer."
“Be sure to bring the Starfinder insignias with you; they will be critical in recovering the information the Starfinders left behind." The audio played with the image closely matches the Venture-Captain's words back on the Station. "If you can recover any of the lost Starfinders—alive or dead—please do so as well. Good luck.”
Any PC(s) acting as science officer(s) may scan the planet with a successful Computers check.
Traversing the asteroid field down to the planet requires a successful Piloting check made by the acting pilot.
The acting captain may attempt a DC 10 Piloting (DC 10), Diplomacy (DC 17), or Intimidate (DC 17) to assist, encourage, or place demands on the pilot; a successful check provides a +2 bonus to the pilot’s Piloting check.
Any PC(s) acting as science officer(s) may scan the asteroid field to identify and avoid potential collisions with a successful Computers check (DC 15); each successful check provides a +2 bonus to the pilot’s Piloting check.
Tracking the distress beacon emanating from the Unbounded Wayfarer crash site makes locating the ship easy. However, the crash site is amid dunes too soft to safely bear the Odyssey’s weight, and the safest place to set down is about a half-hour’s walk away.
As you disembark from the Starfinder vessel, you find that the surface of Ulmarid is a wind-scoured desert with jagged protrusions of rock thrusting up through the sand. The air has a harsh tang, like burning metal.

Are we level 2 now??
piloting to traverse the asteroid field down to the planet: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 I need the aid! :-)

Can we Aid Another on those Science checks?
