We can presume the forged documents have been procured already.
On the way, Ali questions Ringeirr on their upcoming subterfuge. Do the Wolves often travel with humanoid races in their patrols? Specifically, will their eclectic group stand out too much if one poses as a Wolf and the rest are part of the patrol?
Aye, the grizzled fisherman-turned-rebel says with a nod. The winter wolves do many things wit'out regard for what others think. This won't set off any alarm bells. Just mind what ye say, and we may get through this with our insides still inside.
Kappi Matarito
Kappi obviously really wants to use the rimepelt. However he does offer it to Ali or Edward first, knowing they are often better at speaking than him. Yet, he will use it if the others turn it down.

Edward witnesses Kappi starting to take off his prized pelt with a disappointed look on his face.
Kappi my friend. Keep the cloak on, like I said earlier not only do I have faith in you, Apsu does also, and she gives you her blessing, like I'm sure Davosh's Ancients, and Ali's elven spirits.
Edward gives Kappi a good game, and a you can do it thumbs up.

The lad's hope soars as first Eward and then Ali advise him to use the wolfskin.
Though almost shaking with excitement the lad does his best (only partly sucessful) to take a deep breath and reverently place the rimepelt over his shoulders. He closes his eyes and begins to melt into the form of a large wolf.
Though his eyes are closed a whole world of information comes pouring in through his nose. Lacking the experience to place names to all the potent and subtle aromas the Varisian lad is reminded of walking through a foriegn bazaar where he hears many words of numerous languages but can only guess at their meaning.
He opens his eyes and now with a lower sight perspective looks around and then down at his big fur covered wolfy paws. With delight he starts to scamper around like a puppy...
And like a puppy he quickly discovers he doesnt quite have control over his new body. A front leg trips with his hind legs still going full speed. He tumbles tail over haunches into the wiry (but luckily powerful) Vojtek. The murder hobo grabs the big wolf and with little effort sets him down on all four paws. With a sheepish(? maybe wolfish?) grin the big canine looks to Vojtek with thanks. Yet soon with Kappi's very high natural dexterity quickly figures out how to operate all four legs at once.
After a few minutes of walking forward, hopping from side to side, and suddenly bursting forward with astonishing speed the wolf comes trotting back to his friends. With an odd voice wolf Kappi speaks. Okay, lets do this.
Though old man Ringer set off leading the way. Wolf Kappi flanks him and often walks slightly ahead looking as if he is leading.

To help us get moving as players (and to help out the GM) let's just sum up the plan and its execution:
We join in with a caravan so as to look more natural sneaking into the city.
Davosh: Cast Youthful Appearance to appear as a teen and apprentice.
Kappi: Our own Winter Wolf
Ali: TBD
Edward: TBD
Vojtek: TBD

Edward looks at his "papers", and doesn't understand why his last name is Scissorhands, but he commits it to memory and tries to put on the haughty nature of being attached to an important house of the city.
Davosh the Wanderer
Not sure if TS mentioned it here, but work is destroying him Vojtek style this week.
Vojtek Wartooth
Vojtek knows the ways of his people are strange to the southern folk, so he does his best to play up his exotic nature. His idea is that maybe by being a bit more of an oddity, then he could help divert some attention from Kappi.
He dresses in the traditional sealskin loincloth. He then mixes some ash with light-colored clay he was able to find on the side of the road to create a striking gray face paint, which he enlists Edward's help to apply in a tribal pattern. By adding a few feathers and fetishes to his ensemble, Vojtek looks every bit a fascinating and exotic foreigner, or so he hopes.
Little Brother, Vojtek says to Kappi If anyone gets suspicious of you, maybe you can instruct me to do a tribal dance or something. I can pretend to be upset and prideful, then do it. This may take eyes and interest off you.
Vojtek practices a cheesy approximation of a tribal dance, and finds himself chuckling uncharacteristically.
Davosh the Wanderer
Teenage Davosh mimics the Vojtek dance....
Edward W.Fell
|
Edward watches the two do their dance. Edward recognizes the dance Vojtek is mimicking as a northern mating dance. Edward hooks Ali's arm as if escorting her, and turns her away just before Vojtek does the inverted portion of his dance.
The ummm loincloth bounces around and covers the northman's belly button not his loins for the next 4 measures of the performance. Thankfully Ali and I were taking in other interesting views.

I'm back. Let's do this! (Assuming TS is back from GaryCon in one piece.)
GM thunderspirit
He's back. Knowing what Vojtek and Kappi do at work, I will refrain from complaining that I'm exhausted, cos I don't do anything that draining so I feel like I have no business even being tired. :-o
However, being logjammed at work will hereafter be referred to as being "Vojteked." :-D
I'll have a post up later today (CST), as well as an updated map.

As the party approaches the "gate," a tall woman with shoulder-length silver hair, fair skin, and bright blue eyes steps out from a structure near the wall, watching your approach warily. Her eyes scan the lot of you and ultimately rest on Kappi in the rimepelt. Her faces breaks in to a wide grin, and she speaks with considerable warmth in her voice. Hail, friend! What brings you to The Howlings today?
Ringeirr begins to speak, but the woman curtly flings her hand up to stop him, looking directly at Kappi expectantly.
Kappi needs to make a Bluff or Diplomacy check on behalf of the entire party!
Kappi Matarito
untrained bluff 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
Wolf-Kappi stands as tall as his wolf form can, he tries to mimic posture of a dominant dog that approaches another. Escorting a group of foreigners in for some well paying stilyagi. Wolf-Kappi emphasizes the words "well paying" as he says it. He looks to Old Man Ringer, Show her the papers... Wolf-Kappi says it to the man with absolute authority just like Mother Matarito spoke to all the children when he grew up with the Family.
Ringer hands over the papers and within the papers is the bribe we talked about.

Give her a smile, or a feral grin, flirt a bit lad, or hit me to show dominance. Edward whispers to Kappi as he bends over near him to tie an errant strap.

The woman listens closely to Kappi and blithely accepts the papers Ringeirr presents, totally ignoring both Edward and Vojtek. (The latter gets some raised eyebrows from others about the gate, but nothing from the woman.)
All appears to be in order, she says without looking at the documents. Ringeirr arches his brow but says nothing; the woman continues to eye the Varisian in the rimepelt. Feel free to stop by the tavern for a cup of spiced wine, or maybe some tea, she says with a smile. Greta will be there after sundown. Greta steps to the side and watches your group move through the hole in the wall, catching Kappi's eye and giving the lad a wink.
Once out of earshot, Ringeirr chuckles lightly. Looks like ye've an admirer, lad!
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein

Shes dam hot too, boy!
Kappi Matarito
Wolf-Kappi gives Greta a friendly nod and leads the group on. As soon as the party is out of sight the faux wolf suddenly drops his muzzle and throws up. Then wipes his jowels with a paw in a very human way. I cant believe that worked. Thought for sure she would see through our ruse.
Then steeling himself he "leads" on taking subtle clues from Ringer on where to go.
For a moment the lad ponders meeting Greta later for a drink. She had such a solid figure, so different from the uber petite and slim girls of his youth. He had to admit there was something very appealing about her beautiful yet powerful build. Then feeling his stomach start to twist he immediately pushed the thoughts from his mind. "Concentrate on the mission you fool" he thought to himself.

Visions of Greta still dancing in Kappi's head, the group winds it way through the twisting streets of the Howlings. To yer left, son, the grizzled ranger mutters.
Kappi's eagle eyes spot a blue-skinned goblin attempting to hide along the roof of a nearby shack, and he notes that it sees him seeing him. A blue, furry head pops up with a smoking bottle in his hand, and he calls out.
Davosh the Wanderer
Skald, "Show yourself..selves.... " The teenage Davosh turns to his friends, "I think we're about to get bombed..."

With a laugh and strong pat on Kappi's wolf shoulder. Edward walks out of splash damage area from the "Winter Wolf"
Ha! You four have stepped in it now. Not only do you threaten Greta's powerful love interest, you threatened him when he has friends with him. Now I'm sure we can all be reasonable and let this challenge and slight go from us and everyone walk away.

quick question GM or anyone else? So Kappi is a wolf? Can he attack effectively in wolf form? Like jump over and bite the crap out of a goblin? Just trying to figure if Kappi should "stay in character" or drop it.

Here is how it works. Right now it's a cloak of sorts, but that's what you can use it to do.
Kappi Matarito
Wolf-Kappi takes a step and his form melts into a similar tall slim youth, however the lad's normal swarthy skin and dark eyes are now replaced by a northerners very fair skin, blue eyes, and a shock of silvery hair. Short sword coming out on the move the lad thrusts his blade into the green goblin.

Both ALi and Kappi light into Green, who is severely bloodied but still standing after their onslaught!
Green retaliates on Kappi with his rusty blade that is as big as he is, wielded in both hands!

The lone goblin on the roof scampers to one side, puling a flask from his pouch. He flings it at Ali, who only then realizes IT'S A BOMB!
bombs away vs. Ali's touch AC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
