"Never dealt with a roc, but manticores are fierce beasts. However, they do enjoy sending their quills flying your way if you rile them, so we could just all buy shields and collect them that way. It could be fun."
Kern gives a sly smile.
I wonder what manner of tattoo you create from a giant flying castle egg... and why does Piotr know so much about birds mating? Kern thinks.

Ok, gamewise, I see the path to increasing our trust with the tribe. Storywise, however, is there anything else we haven't asked the centaurs about clues we found in the town? I'm purposely hiding Roslin's lineage for now, but anything else? I'm trying to think about what Alister would see as the next steps. We've essentially gotten nowhere with what happened to Varnhold. But maybe he would see the need to return home to take care of affairs and do more research.

I'm not sure if you're asking me or the players, but I'll take a swing at it. I think you've probably found all that you can reasonably expect to find. The road to finding the people of Varnhold mostly likes through the trust of the Nomen centaurs. It isn't impossible to search directly, but it would be difficult and you'd be in over your head without some more XP.
As for returning home to take care of affairs, if you merely ride a horse it's going to take you four days each way, and a week there. Do you have a faster way to get to and fro? If not, we should consider rules for possibly having your Consort rule in your absence. I -think- the consensus was to move the kingdom-building into the background, but not everyone was on board with that (in particular, I liked it and I think Thomas (Mikhail) did too.) I hesitate to ignore the very factor that gives the AP its name and which separates you guys from any ol' adventurers.
However, I'm willing to hear otherwise.

If we get someone to know Sending we can do at least some ruling by just sending messages quickly back and forth. That combined with the Consort should handle most day to day things for a while.
I like the kingdom building. I think it goes well with being a cleric of Abadar. But I don't want to bog down the game.

I'm mainly indifferent since I haven't been party long enough to have lasting kingdom impact. :( However, if I had to choose, I'd say yes to kingdom building, specifically with defense in mind. Maybe the Marshall position is open? Kern would be quite good at getting to remote parts of the realm faster than those on horse. :)

Sure, Piotr can take Sending as a spell when we reach level 9, as can the divine casters.
In my opinion, kingdom building cannot be front and centre. We can set general direction and initiatives, but there simply isn't enough time in this gaming format to handle the regular production and construction details.
Sure, we can react to random events when they actually require the rulers to respond. But many, so far, could now be resolved by delegating the response to someone else ... which can be handled by standing orders.
Personally, I would not mind using Piotr's Crafting feats ... the loot for an arcane caster has been pretty slim, so far. Those are perfect things to put into the background.

Having Eristhea rule make sense. I think it shouldn't completely deobligate us from coming back now and then, but it frees us from the strict monthly need. If we can do that, then perhaps we can do some of that exploration of the Tors area, then head home. Alternatively, we can head back now, do some admin (perhaps set up some standing orders), then go out exploring on the way back to the centaurs.

I'd prefer to keep the kingdom building aspect of the game, and I also think it makes sense to have the option to have the Consort rule while we are away. It certainly feels awkward to leave, take a week to manage the kingdom, then head back for a couple of weeks before repeating the process.

            Let's do it.
Alister and his group spend a couple more nights in the Nomen camp making preparations to leave. He bids Aecora Silverfire farewell, telling her that he needs to return to his own family, but that they hope the centaurs would welcome further visits and trade eventually. He thanks them for their hospitality and gifts.
Since we're exploring, is this one day per hex?

A riding horse has a movement of 40. Per page 50 of the Player's Guide, it will take 1 day1 to search a plains hex and 2 days to search a mountain hex. So that's a week to search the three hexes between the camp and Talon Peak.
The centaurs are clearly glad to see you go, with perhaps only chief Aecora looking forward to eventual better relations.
The first hex to the west of the camp (0626) is barren, a windswept expanse of grass that stretches to the horizon. Moving west, you encounter the northern arms of the Tors of Levenies (0625). Searching the area, you find a large cave system with plenty of evidence of a large body of Queen Roswen's spriggan soldiers, but they're gone now and the place has been abandoned for months. Here you find the lake that is the source of the Gudrin river, that flows east into your own realm after passing through Lake Silverstep.
Days later you survey yet more mountains (0624), finding the source of the Kiravoy river that flows north to join the Shrike at Fort Serenko. Finally you come to the mighty northwestern spires of the Tors of Levenies and the source of the Crooked River. Looming above them all, its top wreathed in clouds, is the mighty crag of Talon Peak.
A Nature check might be in order. Or any skills related to climbing, mountains or stone.

I have Terrain expertise Forest and as a woodland elf I get Climbing bonuses for trees and foliage. Not sure if it'd be applicable here.
You’re adapted to life in the forest or the deep jungle, and you know how to climb trees and use foliage to your advantage. When Climbing trees, vines, and other foliage, you move at half your Speed on a success and at full Speed on a critical success (and you move at full Speed on a success if you have Quick Climb). This doesn’t affect you if you’re using a climb Speed.
You can always use the Take Cover action when you are within forest terrain to gain cover, even if you’re not next to an obstacle you can Take Cover behind.

Humans... always hunting for sport... thinks Kern as his eyes narrow at Piotr.
"What if we were to burrow underneath it to grab the egg? Then it couldn't use its advantage against us. I'd hate to fight this thing in the open or in the sky. And if we burrow, we can easily retreat without killing it."

Aristu shoots a questioning glance at Kern, "Burrowing is a smart way to approach, if you have a way to manage it. But that won't help us move the egg safely." He tries to recall how big roc eggs are supposed to be.

With Aristu's route, you can expect some rope climbing. Take that into account when considering how to transport the giant egg.
