For a question on hit points, what do you guys think about average+1 as opposed to rolling? I default to rlling because it seems to be more popular with players, but the inverse seems true on the boards. Thoughts?
I like average, because it's consistent at least.
When I first did my hit point rolls, I accidently did 2 at 1d8. When I corrected it to 1 at 1d10 and one at 1d8, I ended up with 3 fewer hit points. I guess I've just been hanging around Sarkast too much...

GM SpiderBeard |

I'll take 3 votes as good enough.
Everyone please revise your character to use average hit points +1 per level, of course in addition to your con and other bonuses.
d6 - 4
d8 - 5
d10 - 6

Nilus Romani |

I wanna go ahead and say that I already did that but let me check the math...

Sarkast |

Just a reminder to all:
1. We are carrying the following items, distributed in some unspecified manner at the moment. If anyone has a use for them, please claim them. The armor and weapons in particular have a noticeable weight and bulk, and I expect the GM would like to know who has them for encumbrance. Sarkast can carry some of it in his backpack (since he's already medium encumbered and drops it at the start of combat), but not all.
> mw chain shirt x2, mw scythe, mw glaive x2
> 3 lapiz lazuli, 2 bloodstones, citrine, white pearl
> sword case, magical sword
> book of prayers (from the cultists)
2. Who took the Mwk Backpack that Thora was using? If no one else has it, I'll take it to give me a bit more carrying capacity.

GM SpiderBeard |

I think the MW backpack went unclaimed. Thanks so much for sorting this out Sarkast. WoTR rains loot like you wouldn't believe. I'll move the group to the next scene this evening.

GM Niles |

Guys, Today is my first day back at work and school opens in a few weeks. This means my daytime posts might be a little limited until the school year begins and things settle down. I will still post in the mornings and evenings like normal. Also, taking the family camping this weekend so I may or may not be able to post, depends on cell service.

GM SpiderBeard |

It's fine, it's summer - stuff happens. Enjoy uh, work? I'll have the next scene set up this afternoon. Morning was a bit of a blur. Damn dog ran away and I got to sleep at 3am. He's safe and sound at least.

Sarkast |

Oh wow, sorry to hear that, SB. Dogs can be a real pain sometime when they get that wild hair.
Niles, what part of the world are you in that starts school in July/August?

GM Niles |

Southern Louisiana, we begin Aug 11 and end May 21. I'm an administrator so I'm in a few weeks early and a few weeks after to open and close school.

Dejik |

Oh wow, sorry to hear that, SB. Dogs can be a real pain sometime when they get that wild hair.
You know, some conditioner will calm that right down (unless you mean "wild hare")...
We had an Australian shepherd with 10 ranks in Escape Artist. Lots of drama chasing him down every other week.
Unrelated question:
Has the group discussed what their dragon scales do? Should we?

GM SpiderBeard |

The dragon scales haven't been discussed in detial in game yet. As for should? WEll, up to you folks.

Dejik |

I envision you knocking a bolt on one of the strings, then pulling it back and releasing it with a mighty TWANG! :-)

GM Niles |

I'm gonna be in meetings all day for work. I can't promise I'll be able to post again until maybe tonight late. Bot me as needed

Ayesha Jalal |

You said the word "tacky" and so I must share this. remember that you brought this on yourself.

Ayesha Jalal |

'Happy' was already enough to make me bash my head into my desk to try and get it out of infinite-loop repeat. 'Tacky' takes it to a whole new level. I've given up and just let it play in the background of my mind like a single-track loop of elevator music.
And yes, I loved Word Crimes, but people seem to get really upset when I link it to them. Of course, it's usually in response to a Facebook post like this: "Iz ne1 up foar sum partie 2nite? Cuz I iz redy foar sum!"

Dejik |

I just realized that running a Life Link character in an online game is going to be tricky. Since my healing is round by round, and since it happens in multiples of 5, I'm forced to track people's hit points each round instead of just totaling them up at the end of combat.
It will be less of a problem if I don't try to switch the life link in combat. Each level, I'll be able to bond with an additional ally, so that problem with eventually go away as we level up. I suppose for now, I can just maintain the link with one character through the combat, then if someone else is hurt, I can switch the link after combat (to give them the equivalent of fast healing 5). As long as nobody gets dangerously low on HP, that will probably work.
I'll try to come up with some ways to make the tracking easier. If anyone has any suggestions, that would be great.

GM SpiderBeard |

Yeah. As you can see I was running into some sloppiness in tracking on my own end there. I think what I need to do on my part is just repeat the actions of the last few posts and keep the combat tracker up to date since I'm posting the most frequently. Maybe make better use of a google drive spreadsheet.

Dejik |

Just so people know, I wanted to explain Dejik's healing strategy, since it's kind of odd.
Dejik has the Fey Foundling feat (hence the funky blue eye), which lets her heal an extra 2 hp on every die of healing she receives. On a wand or potion, for example, she'll heal 1d8+3 instead of 1d8+1. So out of combat, it's often more efficient, resource-wise, for Dejik to absorb the damage through her Life Link and then heal herself or get healed out of combat. With one lay on hands, Nilus can heal himself for an average of 7 hp. Or Dejik can absorb all 10 points of his damage, then have Nilus use the same lay on hands on her for an average of 11 hp.
The other strategy with the Life Link is to spread the damage around a bit to make channels more effective. And it moves the damage away from the front-line fighters, which is always helpful.
The downside is that Life Link absorbs damage only in multiples of 5, so once you're at or below 4 hp, it stops working. Right now, Dejik's strategy is to switch the link to anyone who has over 5 points of damage. Between combats, she'll keep it on whomever has the most damage carried over or whomever has gotten hurt the most recently. (As she levels up, she'll be able to link to more people, so the switching will eventually go away.)
Since Ronan has his own life link with Jinxx, Dejik won't use the link on Jinxx. But if Ronan starts to look woozy, Dejik will link with Ronan to take some of the hp pressure off.

Nilus Romani |

I think once Mythic gets here that level of mathcentric strategy isn't really all that necessary. If everyone optimizes then encounters are going to become even more one sided and one round than they already are.

I was actually thinking more in terms of long-term resource management. This strategy works better out of combat. Dejik can't really do in-combat healing until she has selective channeling.

Taking the family to the beach for the weekend. The place we are staying "should" have wifi and I'm bringing my laptop because well...work. So I should be able to post this weekend, if I don't however I'll definitely be back Monday. If I don't post bot me as neccesary

GM SpiderBeard |

Wow, not sure what happened there, but map is fixed! Remember kids, you can always hit ctrl-Z if you break it. :D

Dejik |

We'll be at Dragonflight this weekend, with sporadic Internet access at best. I've posted Dejik's planned actions for the next 3 rounds as spoilers. (I did them in rounds she absorbs 5 hp each round.)

Ayesha Jalal |

BTW, my 2-year old shattered star campaign is in need of two replacement players. If anyone is interested, check out the recruitment thread. We basically went the last 2 years with no replacements, then had RL sneak up on two players simultaneously. We are near the end of the first module.

GM SpiderBeard |

Oops, thought I responded to this. No can do. I am at my limit for PbP but appreciate the offer. :) Hope you found some people!

GM SpiderBeard |

I'll send Bellis' player a message about absences and park Bellis at Defender's Heart so the group will move on with just five.
