.

When a wardstone falls, the city of Kenabres is assaulted by a demon host. Massive demons smash paths of ruin through the city, while droves of the worst the Worldwound has to offer spread through the streets, offering death, dismemberment, and horror to all they find. The collapse of one of Kenabres's greatest landmarks, the Cathedral of Saint Clydwell, sends the heroes tumbling into forgotten catacombs deep below the city, from which they must find their way out or perish alone in the dark. But when they finally emerge, they find Kenabres transformed into a post-apocalyptic devastation. Can the heroes navigate the dying city and make contact with the ragged remnants of the Silver Crusade in time to aid them in defending the city's refugees until the cavalry arrives? And what of the damaged wardstone that flashes and thunders across the ruined cityscape—has the city's one-time defense become a ticking time bomb poised to deliver a death blow to them all?

About This Game
Welcome to Wrath of the Righteous! I am quite excited about this AP and have been itching to run or play it. This group brings over three people who are re-purposed from a Carrion Crown game, who I hope to compliment with some of the excellent people I have met on these boards. Please note this game uses the new mythic rules. Please choose your path as you create your character.

About Me

I've been roleplaying for around 20 years with a variety of systems, but seem to have become entrenched in Pathfinder. I work in project management at a northern Canadian university in a remote rural area, huddled against the cold with my wife and dogs. Although I've been playing Pathfinder for a while, I am somewhat new to the Pathfinder community at large and may be clueless of certain conventions and expectations. This is also my first crack at running a game on the boards, as I have just been playing until now. I encourage constructive criticism.

Combat and Party Tracking

Experience will be awarded as we go, and will be tracked in a google doc spreadsheet along with all items picked up and money gained/spent. You level up instantly but if you have to prepare new spells you must rest.

I've seen a few different ways of handling maps here and my favorite is use of the google draw feature where players move their own tokens.

Character Creation Guidelines:

WoTR is for 4-6 players, so I'll recruit for five and consider a sixth. This game uses mythic rules, so please familiarize yourself with the paths, and choose one with the character creation. This will be formalized in choice of trait.

I am a traditionalist and much prefer a well played human fighter to a half-vampire starslayer or some nonsense like that. So core races and classes are my favorite. That said, WoTR is about unlikely allies against an unstoppable foe, so I will consider nonstandard races more readily than I would otherwise.

- All classes allowed. I do not like eastern classes (ninja/samurai/etc) and am cautious of summoners for balance reasons.
- Standard races preferred.
- Make your characters at level one
- 2 traits and a campaign trait. Please note that your campaign trait will determine your mythic path.
- 150 gold
- 20 point buy. Your stats should figure in to how you play your character.
- You are playing a hero, good characters, or heroic neutral characters only.
- Max HP at 1st, roll from there on out. Reroll 1s.
- No 3rd party supplements.
- Please post a full stat block.
- Summary detail should be on the class/level section of your profile like so:

Class Level | AC XX T XX F XX | HP XX/XX | F +X R +X W +X | Init +X | Perc +X

Game Expectations

- Posting rate is 1/day, 1/weekend. I GMPC readily and without mercy or apology. If you do not post I will automate your character, particularly in combat.
- Please post in the discussion board if you will miss some time.
- There will be some less experienced players in this game. Give 'em a hand!
- Play your character sheet. Your stats and alignment should be reflected in your personality.
- I break the rules when it is dramatically appropriate. I try to never do so in a way that is unfair to PCs.
- Play your character with the fun of the entire party as your first goal. So inter-party drama, sexual themes, or anything like that must be handled with caution.

That's it! Sorry for the wall of text, but hopefully that gets everything out of the way. I intend to run this through to completion, and if we can keep a steady posting rate this can be done. Thanks for your interest.

Liberty's Edge

I'm interested, I like the theme of the campaign.

I have been RPing since the early days of AD&D (I was around for Basic Box, but didn't know what it was at the time :)). I am a math instructor at a community college during the week, and a PFS Venture-Lieutenant on the weekends. I love a good RP-centric game, which is why I've started playing open ended games and AP's via PbP.

I have a number of concepts in mind. I currently have a wizard and an alchemist going in other PbPs, so for variety I might go for either a more martial cleric/inquisitor type, or possibly a support bard. I'll wait to hear if anyone else has concrete plans before I put a lot of effort into a concept.

Tony
(aka Arkady, aka Sutandir, aka The Great Rinaldo!)

.

Ah crap, forgot that there's a free player's guide. Please read it in its entirety!

.

Good to hear it Rinaldo. I haven't had the others post yet, but they've expressed interest in a sorcerer and druid. I actually started on the basic box too, although it was about when 2nd edition was coming out. :D

Heya boyo! Just popping in to dot this one and give interest. If you don't mind a non-maxed character I may just play a magus or (gasp) a bard! Had a spear-wielding barb in the last one, so totally different this time, swear!

If you have a specific gap you'd like filled or even a character concept, I'd be happy to flesh it out for you.

Liberty's Edge

Heh - Magus and Bard were two of my ideas as well. :) I love them both, and there are so many different things you can do.

.

Heya! I much prefer fun concepts over careful min-maxing, so please play what you like. The only confirmation I have now is a druid since my sorc is considering her options.

I like big character backgrounds, but they aren't required. You'll get back what you invest, so if I get something robust I'll try and ensure it factors into the game. That said if you have a skimpy background I won't complain.

All right, going to go with Magus, just because I have never played one before. Be on the lookout for a character sheet soon!

I'm going with a fighter. Good ol' fighter. Nothin' beats that!

I'm still trying to decide, I might go with a paladin but I want to read the players guide first.

Liberty's Edge

So far then: Magus, Fighter, Maybe-Paladin, Druid, and Sorceror? Unless the druid plans to be a healer, we might need a cleric. Hmmm. Got a couple of them already. *think*

.

I've talked to our druid (MDear) about her character and I'm pretty sure this druid will be doing some healing. Of course, all subject to change.

Brother Shartol's player, here.

I was thinking a Paladin. Sword and Board defensive type. I could do an Erastil Archery Paladin instead, but when I saw "druid & sorcerer" I figured the would need a wall more than a damage source. This AP is a really good choice for a Paladin, rjay. It really is.

But I can do nothing and stay out of the way for people who haven't gotten into a WotR, or whose WotR games have already folded instead. I don't need to be greedy.

As for the Cleric issue . . .. I am a traditionalist about the classes, and much prefer the old standards, but I have enjoyed playing Life Oracles when I am filling a healing role more than I have Clerics recently. I am currently playing both of those, though, and I'm not currently playing a Paladin.

Not sure if I want to go for the tiefling trying to overcome his heritage or if I want to just have a standard race. This AP advertises that it caters well to those trying to overcome their heritage or personal past.

EDIT: When did I start playing? I had a friend who had just bought the brand new PHB, and I made a character using it before he started running me through things he had designed using the "original" basic box. That was back in what, '79?

.

Awesome, that's six! I'm sure you guys can sort out who has what. And you are right - this AP -screams- for a paladin. I'm out for the night. This weekend I'll set things up on my end and if all the sheets are done by Monday I can get things going.

Cleric 3 | AC 16/13/13 | Saves F+ 3 R +5 W+6 | Init +3 | Per +6

Hi all! Half-elf, druid here. I'm pretty new to pathfinder and I've been enjoying it so far! Glad to meet you all.

I can do healing if that's what is needed. :D

Looking over the archetypes, I'm thinking a Sacred Shield/Warrior of the Holy Light dual archetype Paladin, aimed at Guardian, of course. I said I was looking at building a wall, right?

Looking it over, I think I will pass on Stalwart Defender. It was, of course, the FIRST mechanical thing I thought of when I started thinking of building a wall. Too good not to at least consider, but the double Paladin archetype gets LOTS of crunchy protection goodness, and can use the feats for other buffs . . ..

Yeah, I know. STORY. Starting with party role and intent on how to fill it, this time.

Female Magus 12 | AC 26 T 16 F 21| HP 102| F +9 R +9 W +8 | Init +11 | Perc +18

Vaashti here with the beginnings of the character. I think I have her fleshed out in my mind as far as motivations, behaviors, and overall party role. Going plain magus, dervish dance (sorry to be so predictable), but it fits the Quadira background so nicely.

I'll try and get the mechanics up this weekend. In the meantime, what do you think of the back story?

<snicker> I came back to double check the mechanical build requirements. He's going to be a Qadiran Paladin of Sarenrae, dedicated to trying to find creatures which can be redeemed and helping them along that path. Helping explain the defensive focus of the build and reinforcing the archetype choices with story that directly supports them!

I think I even have an unused alias with a Keleshite style name . . ..

I get distracted by character building.

Male Human (Keleshite) Paladin (Sacred Shield/Warrior of the Holy Light) 4 | AC28 T11 F20 (27 w/ Shield) CMD17 | HP40/40 | F+10 R+6 W+8 | Init+1 | Per+0

Mechanics are done. I have a fairly good sketch of the background in mind, but tomorrow's errand day so that we can watch the game.

Meriui will be a very recent arrival, having come all the way from Qadira to join the Crusade.

As far as Ayesha's backstory goes, very nice EXCEPT . . .. Kelishites trace ancestry and inheritance through the WOMEN. If the guy who purchased her was Kelish, then he would inherit NOTHING (and technically her eldest sister would inherit their father's debts, but that wouldn't keep him from trying to clear the books by selling off his youngest).

.

Awesome, looks good so far. Thanks.

So far we have:

Rowena - Druid
Meriui - Paladin
Stilltobenamed - Fighter
Ayesha - Magus

Still waiting on character sheets from rjay and Rinaldo!

Female Magus 12 | AC 26 T 16 F 21| HP 102| F +9 R +9 W +8 | Init +11 | Perc +18

Darn, I didn't read the world setting closely enough. I'll make the mods this afternoon. Time to take the kids to the science museum

Liberty's Edge

On my way to run PFS at a game day today, so don't expect to hear from me with a character until late tomorrow at earliest.

Female Dwarf Fighter 2 | HP 22/22 | AC 16/11/15 | F: +5 R: +1 W: +1 | Init: +3 | Perc: +7

Stilltobenamed has been named! That's, ah... That'd be me.

Male Human (Keleshite) Paladin (Sacred Shield/Warrior of the Holy Light) 4 | AC28 T11 F20 (27 w/ Shield) CMD17 | HP40/40 | F+10 R+6 W+8 | Init+1 | Per+0

I think I've got him set up pretty well.

Please let me know if I stretched too far for the Exposed to Awfulness trait or if what I did is acceptable. I can't adapt unless I know you want me to, after all!

Like I said, character creation distracts me.

Did the grocery trip already. Need to take the old bananas and make some banana bread. Figure out what I want to make for supper. I'll probably cook the ribeye tonight instead of freezing it for next weekend.

rjay: PLENTY of Paladin goodness available for you to work with without stepping on Meriui's toes. He's kind of a corner case Paladin, focusing on Redemption instead of enforcement. Most Paladin builds are far more about Enforcement. Or, if you want to play a Paladin and you don't wan tot share the title, tell me and I'll cook up something else. Sure, i really like an idea before I think it's ready to play, but there's always another idea in the wings.

EDIT: Wait. Who was gonna be a Sorcerer? I don't see one in the lineup?

.

Your background is great Meriui - no complaints from me here. Our sorcerer switched out for fighter early on. My mistake for not making that clear to everyone else.

So our current setup is this:

Druid - caster w' companion
Fighter - 2H build
Paladin - sword & board
Magus - no build yet

Submission pending: rjay and Rinaldo!

Neither have settled 100% on a character so we should be fine in terms of party balance. And if not, that just makes things more fun for me. ;)

Female Magus 12 | AC 26 T 16 F 21| HP 102| F +9 R +9 W +8 | Init +11 | Perc +18

GM - I have never played a bladebound magus, but have always been intrigued by them. I think they have amazing potential for plot hooks. I plan on starting with my black blade (scimitar), but leaving it up to you to know if it is anything special before level 3 (where it actually has game affecting mechanics). Is that okay? Backstory has been edited to fix earlier errors and slip in the black blade.

.

Starting with the black blade is fine by me. Looks like a fun archetype and gives me some things to play with.

The only thing you need to do with your background is select and work in your campaign trait - this also points you towards your mythic path. So for example if you picked Riftwarden Orphan (Archmage path) she'd have to have unknown parentage and a Riftwarden birthmark.

Female Magus 12 | AC 26 T 16 F 21| HP 102| F +9 R +9 W +8 | Init +11 | Perc +18

Yep, I'm getting there. Unfortunately most of the campaign traits almost require you to be from the rift area.

Question: Can I take the Riftwarden Orphan trait, without actually knowing that my father was really just a foster father (and thus more likely to have a relatively large family and be willing to sell me into slavery)?

.

Absolutely. Please feel free to modify campaign traits as necessary, provided that you hit the high points. The important things for that particular trait are the unknown parentage and the Riftwarden birthmark.

Female Magus 12 | AC 26 T 16 F 21| HP 102| F +9 R +9 W +8 | Init +11 | Perc +18

Okay, I think Ayesha is ready to go, except for spells

.

Awesome! I'm helping Rowena finish her's - she'll be playing a cleric instead of a druid.

Cleric 3 | AC 16/13/13 | Saves F+ 3 R +5 W+6 | Init +3 | Per +6

Hi everyone! My character is done. :D

I will have my character done tomorrow, will be playing a Human Summoner

Male Human (Keleshite) Paladin (Sacred Shield/Warrior of the Holy Light) 4 | AC28 T11 F20 (27 w/ Shield) CMD17 | HP40/40 | F+10 R+6 W+8 | Init+1 | Per+0

half-elf Cleric of Pharasma - provides divine. Archery is an unusual choice for a Pharasman, but a good one!
dwarf Fighter - dps build
elf Magus - meat and arcane
human Paladin of Sarenrae - protective/defensive (no spells, ever)
?? Summoner - provides meat and arcane

Well, I know what's missing for a "well-rounded" party. I don't particularly care what Rinaldo chooses to play, this looks to be an interesting bunch. I am curious, though.

Meh. He said we'll find out today.

For the newer players: I like to identify the god/ideal for divine characters as part of the basic character description because of how differently the same class and attributes tend to play out based on what they venerate. The comparison in Rowena's story between her Calistran parents and her Pharasman character just helps drive home the amount of variance.

.

I've always loved religion in fantasy games because it really helps define your character's ethics and personality if you're trying to find your voice. As a result I tend to play a lot of religious types. :D

Anyways, I have things ready to go on my end and gameplay thread will be open once the party is complete - or close enough.

Liberty's Edge

OK, I have about a thousand things to do today, and this is one of them. Looks like we could use something in the Rogue/bard category, so let me percolate some ideas while I get some other things done and I'll get back to you all.

.

If you don't have time today Rinaldo it's no biggie. What I'll do is put the gameplay thread up (you all start wandering the city during the festival) and let people stretch their legs and RP a bit before I land the plot hook.

Male Half Elf Summoner 8/Achmage 2 | HP 78 | AC 18/13/15 +2 if Next to Jinxx | Saves F 7/ R 7 / W 8 | Init +6 | Perc +3

Ok Almost got it I think, just have to add gear and what not and I should be good to go. Please let me know if I have missed anything

.

So far so good. Need the following:

- One more trait (you get two and the campaign trait)
- Backstory. Even just a short paragraph.
- Stat block for your eidolon and what it looks like. If you want, create a new alias for it which is pretty common with companions.

Male Kellid Rogue (Unch) 11 / Urban Bloodrager 1 / Trickster 5| AC 29(32 w/Cmb Exp) T 18 F 22 | HP 122/122 | F +7 R +14 W +5 | Init +11 | Perc +21

OK, all set. Please review and let me know if you see any issues. I'm using both the Acrobat and Scout archetypes (Scout won't come into play until 4th level).

I identified the items in and strapped to his backpack because they bring him to medium encumbrance. He normally carries the pack over a single shoulder so he can drop it as a free action to remove the penalties.

(Rinaldo)

.

Very cool character! I can't find anything wrong so you're all clear Rinaldo.

.

Gameplay thread is up! I will start the plot some time tomorrow, ideally after rjay's eidolon sheet and background are posted.

Outsider Eidolon HP: 58/58 AC:25/Mage Armor 29 Saves F: 6 R: 8 W: 1

Meet Ronan's Eidolon Jinxx

.

Jinxx looks alright to me! This isn't a priority but if you could show what evolutions you picked for Jinxx that'll help me. I also still need a short background, but can start if you don't have one.

I'll give everyone a day and then start the game late tonight.

.

Hey Ronan, I do see that you have mage armour and also wear studded leather. They don't stack as both provide an armour bonus. Shield will stack, but has a much shorter duration.

Male Half Elf Summoner 8/Achmage 2 | HP 78 | AC 18/13/15 +2 if Next to Jinxx | Saves F 7/ R 7 / W 8 | Init +6 | Perc +3

Good to know about the armor, I will make some changes when i get home tonight.

Quote:
"As god as my witness I thought turkeys could fly"

*Snort* I'm glad I'm not the only person old enough to remember that. :)

Male Half Elf Summoner 8/Achmage 2 | HP 78 | AC 18/13/15 +2 if Next to Jinxx | Saves F 7/ R 7 / W 8 | Init +6 | Perc +3

I was hoping someone would pick up on the quote :)

Female Magus 12 | AC 26 T 16 F 21| HP 102| F +9 R +9 W +8 | Init +11 | Perc +18

Double points for the WKRP reference

.

Love WKRP. :D

So just as a heads up I'm going to level up the party at certain points in the campaign as opposed to experience by encounter. With six people I'm going to need to increase the difficulty and treasure for most encounters and so want to simplify where I can.
