Unfortunately no, you can't move diagonally across a corner. You need to tumble to get through. Doorway is blocked.

Beshtori Sankral |

It doesn't like there will be a lot of activity in any case - the updater is out of order, so nobody knows when a new post is up...

GM SpiderBeard |

lol, apparently dangling attractive illusionary women on strings no longer works like it used to. Darn cynical adventurers.

Beshtori Sankral |

Besh was thinking of enlarging Brenna - would that get around concerns about difficult terrain?

Saphren |

Maybe. Certainly would not hurt. I worry that the fish thing can move away from the side further and/or dive under the water. I am betting its deep too. It it goes under lets just leave. :)

Beshtori Sankral |

If we keep this up, eventually one of these rooms is going to look like the closing scene from the finale of Angel

Beshtori Sankral |

Every single year I think "Finally, this year I can plant the garden early." And every single year we get snow or heavy frost until the end of May <angry face emoji>
I've been here for ten years - I really shouldn't be surprised by this any more.

Lyr Scarheart |

I just realized how bad Lyr is in need of an audit. I don't think I fully updated him during some level up, and now his numbers are slightly off. Also, he has Precise Shot twice, and is built to have a kick-ass animal companion, which I pretty much have never actually had in this game.
I'm not entirely sure what I should do about that. My original image of Lyr was of him riding/flying around on an animal companion, summoning creatures and raining down arrows. In practice, I've found that I don't really like the animal companion rules, and I rarely summon things. Instead, I'm basically just an archer cleric (which I like. It's a lot less complex).
Lyr desperately needs a rebuild. Any thoughts on what how to do it? What does the party need?

![]() |

I'm there with ya, Zoso's RP character needs a major facelift and I rarely use his spells.
So you once said Lyr was built as a Drow killing machine. He totally is, those hatred arrows have more than once decimated a foe. What did you sacrifice to get a companion?

Saphren |

You could take an animal that can serve as a mount and pick up some of the ride feats. Mounts work great for archery, even without the Mounted Archery feat.

GM SpiderBeard |

You're in the last section of Chapter 3 and there'll be a natural stop at that point where everyone can go over their characters in detail.

Beshtori Sankral |

@Saphren: Besh can stick you with an invisibility spell again, if you'd like

GM SpiderBeard |

I'm at a conference until Sunday. I'll have ample internet but posting schedule will be disrupted and I may post at odd(er) times.

Beshtori Sankral |

There is a dragon in this room
I hate to say "I told you so..."
:D
GM SpiderBeard |

Time to post is scarcer than once imagined. I'll do my best but this will likely be a dry week. Thanks for your patience!

Saphren |

Seems like a good time to interject that I am leaving for an extended vacation next Tuesday. I will be traveling from May 9- May 25. I hope to be able to post some but it may be only with my phone.

Beshtori Sankral |

Beshtori's chomping at the bit to get in there and talk to / fight a dragon, but zir Diplomacy skills are garbage (5), and ze's running low on higher level spells.

GM SpiderBeard |

Well, with the dearth of posts I'll just call us on hold until Saphren is back or someone posts. Enjoy a well-earned break!

GM SpiderBeard |

It's behind a gigantic window. The window, however, is 20' above the ground. So you don't have line of sight into it.

Lyr Scarheart |

Yeah, since Saphren is the only one who's seen the dragon or the layout, and because he's our scout, I was waiting for him to lead us in.
GM, regarding what I was talking about earlier, about wanting to rework Lyr, how would you prefer I go about that? Do you want me to wait for a break in the story, or use the retraining rules, or do you want me just to do it?

Lyr Scarheart |

Tanglefoot bags? If we hit it with a volley of them, and it fails one DC 15 Reflex save it will be stuck down until it can tear itself free (which it will do, but it will have to spend a round doing it). Then, it will need to make Fly checks to do just about anything while it's all glue-y. Dragons have surprisingly low fly skills (still decent, but it's a weakness as much as dragons have any weaknesses).
A Net would also work for a round or two. I have one Brenna can have. It's a -4 non-proficiency penalty, but Brenna has full BaB and dragons have crappy touch ACs.

GM SpiderBeard |

@Lyr - You guys are VERY VERY VERY close to the end of Chapter 3. I'd prefer you take that opportunity to rebuild Lyr.
The dragon is size large.

Beshtori Sankral |

Besh has a Web scroll, if that helps
(though I suppose it could just dispel it...)

Lyr Scarheart |

Besh has a Web scroll, if that helps
(though I suppose it could just dispel it...)
That would take an action on it's part.
Anything that gets a dragon to waste an action is a huge benefit.

Saphren |

Hey all. On my phone here. A reminder that I will not be back until the 26th so please let's not wait on me.
Sachsen had stated what he saw. But I am not sure what that was. I do not think the front doors lead into the room with the dragons as I do not think he saw doors on the ground level, Is that right?

GM SpiderBeard |

Okay, here's the layout (please check the map for reference):
- Front doors lead into an unknown part of the building. They are on the ground floor.
- The back of the building has a large window, 20' above the ground. Saphren climbed up and saw the dragon.
- The room containing the dragon only occupies part of the building. Within that room in interior balcony which is behind the window.
- The dragon is on that balcony, looking out to you.
The balcony is outlined in yellow. Hope that helps.
If Zoso wants to talk to the dragon, he needs to either climb up and shout through the window, break the window, or you guys need to go through the front door and the other rooms of the observatory.

Lyr Scarheart |

I was under the impression that Light and Darkness spells cancelled/overrode each other out to the full extent of their radius. I counted the dim light radius of continual flame as part of it's effect. I guess that's not accurate?

GM SpiderBeard |

Checked against an official Paizo blog and it clarifies that it defeats the spell in the area of overlap, rather than suppressing the spell entirely. Frnakly, I think it just makes more sense too.

Lyr Scarheart |

So what's that mean in layman's terms? The dim light area counts, but as I move around, the darkness area comes back if it's outside the light?

Beshtori Sankral |

I will be out of the country from Saturday until June 29 - I will probably have some internet access while I'm away, but I've no guarantee of that. Beshtori will have to be on autopilot for a bit - have fun without me!
