Senzo gives a great kiai as he flies into a barrage of dragon-style strikes.

He first brings a knee up sharply: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 14 + 2 = 28 for DMG: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

As he puts his foot down, he drops an elbow: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 14 + 2 = 27 for DMG: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

He lets his arm straighten into a hammer fist coming straight down

In a flurry of sword and fist and gore, the undead baku is finally re-laid to rest.

You hold your breath for a moment, but it appears definitely lifeless again.

There are two exits from the room, one north and one south. The altar holds nothing save gore and the dead baku.

Zora bows slightly to her companions, and methodically touches the eye on her gloves again. "Thank you for your assistance in carrying out the will of my goddess, fellow agents... companions both old and new. May the baku's soul know peace now that it can travel to the Spire."

She takes the time to try and arrange the remains of the wretchedly slaughtered baku in as respectful a manner as possible.... given it's eviscerated and scattered... and murmurs a chant to Pharasma under her breath as she works.

"Do any of you require healing? That bite looked grievous, Ferabras... but you seem to have thrown off the worst of it."

Bodta and Fera are both down 5, it looks like? Not really worth a channel if those are our only injuries. If that's accurate damage-wise, then:

Ferabras cleans the unholy gore from his blade - and his teeth - and pauses a moment in quiet prayer over the doubly-slain baku. Once healed by Zora, he thanks her for her care, then scans the room for where to head next.

"Let us look to the north, and see what bizarre horrors await us in that direction," he suggests. "If there is another monstrosity there, I'd like to deal with it rather than leave it to creep up behind us as we explore the rest of the house."

Nothing further jumps out at you. It looks like an ordinary room. You shake your heads and turn around, heading in the direction that you so clearly wanted to, but the GM fluffed...

An ornate wooden staircase descends from the upper story, opposite the rocky face of the Old Wall. An elegantly carved fireplace mantle, fine art, and exquisite tapestries are offset by a standing pool of black, fetid water in the northwest corner.

The art is strange. In almost all instances, the figures depict unattractive nobles and malformed creatures with bulging goiters and melting flesh. The creatures seem to gape and jeer at trespassers, but only from the corners of an onlooker’s vision. Other paintings depict witches performing rites, scenes of torture, and strange landscapes that turn to swaths of fiery destruction as viewers avert their gaze.

Footsteps, heaving and deliberate, come from the staircase, along with a dragging sound, punctuated by a thud on every step. A harsh female voice that you recognize from the room with the vulnadaemons echoes through the room.

"Well dearies, have you come for your dear missing medium? Come to wreck havoc and kill children? I have your dear medium right here..." As the figure reaches the turn in the staircase she comes into view: Grisly fetishes and the rags of once fine clothes hang off the corpse-thin frame of this horrifying, sharp-fanged crone. She drags behind her a body: Madame Carrington! Before you can move, quick as a flash, she has Carrington's throat near the hag's mouth, ready to rip out her throat!

"Not so quick, heroes. You want her, don’t you, dearies? You’ve come to take her from old Sally Scrabblebones, have you? Well I'll give her to you, undamaged, if you give me the Book and the Key. An exchange, eh? Your medium for the items?"

Carrington's eye blink at you; she's still alive!

He glances at his companions with frustration and fury in his eyes, making it fairly clear he has no wish to barter, but is willing to wait a moment for someone to come up with a better idea than a full-frontal assault that might mean Madame Carrington's death.

DM - I just have a moment to post, but can you give us a quick refresher on the downsides to giving up the book and the key? I'm on a work trip and don't have time to review posts, to recall if giving those up means the price of grain in Korvosa will go up by 1% or if the world will end. I don't want to make the trade, especially, but I'd like to know what's at stake.

The Key and Book seem to have power over the Dreamscape. Giving them both may give them the ability to gain control over the Dream Plane and allow them to enter the dreams of anyone in the area, and eventually, the world. You're not sure what happens if you die in the Dream Plane, but you're pretty sure it's not good. They did manage to kidnap Madame Carrington's soul without the Key and Book; with them they may gain even more power to steal souls.
