Even if it is a multistage fight for the Garrison, I think the first thing that we should be looking at is a place to hole up inside there.
So stealth is the order of the day first. :)
But when things go south, I know that we should not be killing everything in there, as that will be just a waste of time and effort. However, I don't want powerful bad guys coming to bother us when we are pinned against the main mobster in the place.
So we are going to have to figure out how to silently pin doors shut, (I have an idea, but cannot check it until tomorrow).
I still think that we will need to minimize the amount of resource use even if it is multi day clearance.

Just a note on my GMing style, which I think will ease Ashnah's concern, if not some of the rest of you. I don't consider a "kill" as the only way to defeat an encounter. So, if you were to say, get past everything to the stone and destroy it, AND everything fled because of it, I would consider that a defeat. To me defeating a challenge entails achieving the objective, and I wouldn't penalize a team for coming up with a truly unique and clever way to achieve it. So worrying about xp starvation because you didn't kill everything shouldn't be a concern in coming up with your tactics.
I do this for a few reasons. 1) Combat is usually the most time consuming portion of any game, face to face or at the table, so eliminating some of that time is generally a good thing (call it the lazy GMs way out if you like ;) ) 2) Having to consider things like xp for kill, to me takes you out of any kind of immersion because you start number crunching; "I need to kill x number of CR x to reach the next level." I'd far rather my players worry about RP, the story, and having fun. So leave that bit of bookkeeping up to me ;)

I can work with that, and I happen to agree with that style.
I prefer not having to wander around killing everything. :)
Edit, found the item that I was looking for.
I wonder if there might be a bit of time to get a few of these made.

GM, I went to the photo's of Kenabres before and after the fall.
Currently getting a warning that the pictures will be deleted soon.
Edit, I cannot see any of the markers for the Grey Garrision. I can see the map, but not the markers.

Is it possible remove the icons for the slain tieflings? Would definitely help me keep my mind wrapped around the tactical situation :)
GM Shathira |
all,
I need to apologize for not posting for the last while, and this bit of full disclosure will hopefully give you a feeling of where I'm at. About 4 months ago, we had an update of a critical software, that was my project, go horribly bad, and it got me put on a performance review. 90% of the time this leads to the termination of the person on it. So for the last 4 months, I've been working with my nose to the grindstone, most of the time putting in 50+ hour workweeks, which left me not doing much of anything else. Fortunately, that 4 months is up, and I find myself in the 10% that kept their job. You should see an uptick in my regularity at this point now that that pressure and stress is eliminated. The review had been lessened and put back in place a few times (more because of HR issues than my performance), which is why I'd given optimistic posts here about things lightening up, but then fell back to being irregular. The actual sign off on that PR came yesterday, with my manager actually letting me shred a paper copy of it ;).
Thanks again for the patience, I know it's been a bit of a struggle for you all as well.
Pat

I appreciate the fact that this was kept going, and that you had at least kept us at least posted that you were not killing the game.
Other note, congratulations on maintaining the job.
It does kind of suck that something that was expected to go smooth, did not, but in reality, hardly anything ever does.
But it is good to hear that the stress level in your life has been reduced. once again, congrats.

Glad to hear you're in the clear at work, Shathira! Sorry for the delay in posting on my end, it's been a bit hectic at my own job these past two weeks.
Want to give a heads-up that I'll be travelling from 9.21 through 9.30 and will only be able to post from my phone, which is a bit of a pain, so my posts during that time frame will most probably be brief.

Sorry for my recent absence; despite my efforts, holiday stuff got the better of me.

I apologize for my absence.
Got hit with a bug that had me dehydrated to the point of a hospital visit.
Got to "Love it" when you have a bug sending stuff out both ends. :(

Wanted to give everyone a heads up that I'm travelling this holiday weekend and my posting may be sparse/non-existent. Will catch up on Thu 11/28 at latest. Happy holidays!

Merry Christmas (Belated), and a Happy New year (Be Earlied).
Right back at ya!

Not to much that I can say.
I am sorry for your loss, and wish you a better year from this point forward.

Shathira, I hope things have begun to look up for you. Drop me a line when you're back on the boards and feeling up to running again.
Until then, I'm bowing out of our WotR game here. I have some opportunities that I've been holding off on in case this game started up again, but after 30 days it doesn't look good. Thanks to everybody who I played with here - I wish you luck on the boards and in RL :)
