A place for discussion! For those newer to Play by Post, this thread is intended for out of character conversation, while posts in the Gameplay thread should be kept in-character (except for brief comments).
This is how I generally use formatting in my posts:
If you need any help with formatting, speak up and I'm happy to explain it. You can also click "Reply" above this post to see my source code for how I've formatted it, or you can click the spoiler button next to "How to format your text" below the text entry box to see other examples.
Everyone take a second to introduce your character in here, so we can get a good feel for everyone. I should have the first gameplay post up by morning. And, last but not least, I hope everyone has a great time!

Yo!
As a heads-up, Sunday is my local PFS day, so I likely won't tag again until tomorrow night, or something, but I'll jump on it then.
***
Milo is a young man in his twenties, pale-skinned as a native Nidalese, with black hair on the longish side. He smiles easily and often. A scar on his jaw adds to his rakish air. A beautiful rapier hangs at his side, bossed with what looks to be a coat of arms on its basket hilt. Milo dresses as fashionably as his purse allows (never quite as richly as he'd like) and fancies himself quite the ladies' man. He also cheats at cards. He would likely have spent his latest winnings already if not for the fact that the Society has, semi-against-his-wishes, shipped him off to Nidal for a mission. He's grumpy, because what's the point of being temporarily prosperous if you can't spread the wealth around at a proper Absalom brothel? He says the entertainment prospects in Nidal are, uh... well, he just tells you all not to visit any Nidal brothels, while you're here.
Sitting on a chunk of change that I left intentionally unspent. Not a HUGE amount, but if we have a pricey group purchase we need to make, Milo can contribute to that, hopefully.
Xander Ravencourt |
Reporting in!
Nice to see Xander and Milo get to continuing their adventures.
In contrast to Milo, Xander is a cheery fellow, which is odd for someone who obviously worships the Lady of Graves. He wears a lightweight black hooded robe over his armor. An array of pouches and sheathes covers his chest kinda like a modern day tactical vest. All his gear is firmly secured, probably because things around him tend to move of their own volition. Weird sounds follow him. Extra footprints walk along side his own. He also tends to talk to people who aren't there. In spite of all that, he's an amiable, charismatic person.
Everything he carries is old, expensive and very well cared for. He proudly wears a silver wayfinder with the spiral of Pharasma engraved on it.
Milovic Draznoi |
Hey, Milo's cheery! Most of the time. Just not right now, because Nidal. ;)
Also, I just noticed we have two dhampirs in the party! That's funny, but interesting dynamic-wise. It's a rare dhampir that gets to benefit from having a caster with inflict in the party, so enjoy your goth kid shenanigans, you two. ;)
Xander, you already grabbed a wand, I see. Part of the gold I was reserving was in case we needed to buy one; I'm happy to toss you 65 gold to represent my chunk of the life-fixing you'll be doing on me with that stick. :P
Vandrare the Wretched |
Hi all! Looking forward to getting to know you and your characters over the coming months!
Vandrare cuts an imposing figure. He stands at just over 6 foot tall, and his broad shoulders and battered armour give the impression that he is no stranger to combat. He wears two swords in parallel sheaths on his back, with a third sheathed at his side. A crossbow and quiver hang loosely off his belt, and his clothing is well-worn but in good repair. His ashen skin, pale blue eyes and stark white hair betray his otherworldly ancestry.
Despite his semi-permanent scowl and odd social graces, Van makes a steadfast companion once you get to know him. Plus, he has swords. All of the swords.

That actually played into my decision a little - besides just finding Kinvara and Vandrare both interesting, I figured it'd probably be helpful to have a healer who could handle both kinds of energy. :)
Aya the Roc |
Aya is a Roc with feathers of grey and white. She follows Vandrare around when she's not hunting game or preening herself.
Vandrare rescued Aya from a band of poachers when she was just a hatchling. He tried releasing her into the wild, but she would have nothing of the sort. She stands at roughly the same height as Van, with an almost 12 foot wingspan.
I agree with Milo. Having two Dhampir will definitely make things interesting, especially for Van as he has never met another of his kind. I can't wait to see how the initial party meeting plays out!
Shogunto Heineous |
Hey guys! Shogunto here! Thanks for the opportunity! And glad to hear the healer can cure my familiar as well :) it's not easy to have a giant head following me around (well, most of the time, it'd be merged with me, but you know...).
This looks like it's gonna be a fairly interesting group dynamic. Can't wait to see! Good game :)
Titania Evangeline Snow-fell |
Titania here
Thanks for the opportunity, GM Rennai.
Titania appears as an Ulfen Woman with an impressive (to non-Ulfen) stature of 6 foot 6. She has inherited comely human features and has an attractive build with pale skin, But her face is beautiful with blue eyes and long Golden Blonde Hair that ends near her waist.
She is wearing a Breastplate and some gleaves over her clothes. On her back one can see a Halberd, a longsword and a back pack containing her gear.
GM Rennai |
Thanks for checking in, everyone. We're just waiting on Kinvara now. If I haven't heard from her by tonight I'll message her.
I had a couple things come up last minute, so I'm not going to have the first gameplay post finished until tonight. I'll start the thread up now, though, so everyone can dot in and get the campaign on their My Campaigns list.
Titania Evangeline Snow-fell |
Kinvara Doone |
Sorry to be late. Been a busy weekend.
Kinvara tries to remain cloaked as much of the time as possible. Her pale skin and dark hair might be considered pretty if it weren't for the rotting pustules that spread across her face, or the patches of skin on her hands that are sloughing off. She stands just short of six foot, but is skinny and frail. She leans on her longspear.
This looks to be a party for some interesting RP.
Vandrare the Wretched |
Well done with the intro Ren, Van's letter was perfect!
Xander Ravencourt |
Some things that might be relevant about Xander which I figured I'd bring up now-
Xander's whole family are essentially professional monster hunters. They've been doing it for a long time and he was brought up in the family business. In addition, he has the ghosts of dead family members around him all the time that give him advice.
Those things mean Xander is useful as a means of getting information out to the group in ways which might bypass the normal investigation methods. I've seen this be really useful in investigative games for GMs who want to use Xander's abilities as plot hooks. I've also seen it unravel mystery games pretty fast because he can gain information in unexpected ways.
For example-
1) He has a great deal more theoretical knowledge than practical experience. He carries around books written by his family and by the pathfinder society. There's lots of stuff in them that might prove useful.
2) He never gets lost. His ancestral memories have been pretty much everywhere and his family can speak to local ghosts to learn more. He can track people through places he's never been as though he were born and raised there. He can remember strange, unique historical details about places through the eyes of people who were actually there.
3) He can speak with the dead. Assuming he asks the right questions, he can learn a lot in a shot time.
One more thing, since I'm pretty sure this adventure will deal a lot with darkness and shadows and stuff like that.
Xander has a Heightened Continual Flame cast on the inside of his Wayfinder. Because higher level light effects suppress or dispel lower level darkness effects, that means Xander has a trump card up his sleeve for enemies that rely on darkness. I figured you'd want to know that.
GM Rennai |
** spoiler omitted **
And yes, the heightened continual flame is good to know about. :) Did you remember to account for the cost of the spellcasting in your character wealth? I know it's not an earth-shattering amount, but it could prove to be a highly useful effect.
@Titania - Thanks for the offer on free renders. I know having character art can be fun for me sometimes. :)
Milovic Draznoi |
Milo, if I remember correctly, you had some romantic history with Anya, or at least a history of romantic interest? I'm working on the opening gameplay post right now.
Sorry not to respond more timely, but yes-- I was just unclear from the original campaign blurb if she was old enough for that to be feasible without Milo being a pedophile, lol. It's fine how you handled it in the intro! :D
Shogunto Heineous |
GM, sorry if it's a little too late, but - could I make small changes to my list of spells? I'll send them to your approval... :)
Shogunto Heineous |
Thanks! I just switched one of my Burning Hands with a Inflict Light Wounds.
I asked for permission because I also changed one spell in my spell book (removed reduce to add ILW that I forgot) - and that I wouldn't be able to do when I wake up :)
Vandrare the Wretched |
They look awesome Tess, well done! The only things I think Van is missing are a cloak and a sword! I agree with Kinvara, thanks for putting time and effort into the renders, It's much appreciated
Titania Evangeline Snow-fell |
For those wondering what I use for rendering the renders
I use Daz Studio
and they are currently having their Platinum Club sale..
GM Rennai |
Next post isn't going to be until tonight - I've had a family emergency come up with the in-laws and will be visiting them for the day.
I know Sho and Tess haven't had a chance to speak up, but it sounds as if the consensus now is the inn and the drama in the town square, correct? I'll keep that percolating in my brain, and my post should come up tonight once I'm back home. Have a good day, everyone!
EDIT: And of course Sho posts in gameplay while I'm working on my post here. :) The inn it is, then!
Shogunto Heineous |
Lol sorry :)
Vandrare the Wretched |
I think that's the general consensus Ren. Best of luck with the in laws, no need to rush the next post :)
Xander Ravencourt |
I think that normally only one Diplomacy check to shift disposition is allowed against a person per day.
Is that the case here, or is it different because we're trying to sway a crowd too?
What are our options?
GM Rennai |
You've taken your one attitude-shift check with Lucian, but not with the crowd yet, so you could speak with the crowd and appeal to them to calm them down.
You can also make another check with Lucian to ask some favor/make some request of him, at the same DC it would be to shift him from his current attitude, which could also ostensibly be used to disperse the crowd or accomplish something else.
Those are the two main options, although Pathfinder being the game it is, there's obviously always something the GM would never think of. :)
Vandrare the Wretched |
We'll done Tess and Xander! That was some fine negotiating!
Xander Ravencourt |
Thanks.
Sorry to hog the spotlight right off the bat like that. Once we get to a place where we're not likely to get a riot for having a pair of Dhampir with us, I want to see you and Kinvara in action.
Vandrare the Wretched |
No need for apologies, we all have our strengths. That situation was definitely your forte, I imagine my undead heritage and 9 charisma score would have turned that whole conversation on its head pretty quickly :)
Milovic Draznoi |
Apologies for the lack of chiming in there; busy day, as I'm trying to prep locally for a con this weekend. Wrangling GMs! Creating terrain! Printing Chronicle Sheets, etc!
This is also my subtle way of slipping in that I'm likely going to be AWOL for the weekend itself, though I'll try and check the game at night.
Milovic Draznoi |
Thanks! It's a smallish con, just 12 tables of PFS for me to coordinate, but 12 tables is 12 tables. I'm working on making what will hopefully be a cool terrain piece for my players, when I get it done.
Vandrare the Wretched |
12 tables? That sounds nuts! Good luck Milo!
@GM Rennai: Paranoid, or incredibly sensible? :P
