Gortrek the Honorable |
As magic once again came to his blade, Gortrek quickly turned and nodded at Losjien before turning his blade on another skeleton. Weak or otherwise, it was better then trying to punch them.

Unfortunately there is nothing of value in the room.
Beyond the way you came in there are two passages leading out of this area. Listening p the NW passage you can hear the dripping of water, very slowly.
Sorry for the slow posts. We are in election season in my city and it has me a little swamped. Plus the boards have been wonky.

Losjien swings his fist as if holding a sword imitating Gortrek as he plows through a skeleton. He is satisfied with the results of his spell.
"Nice work, I Will leave the next bone pile undisturbed... We should head towards the sound of dripping water." Losjien begins to wander that way slowly.

VOTE GM REDBOX FOR MAYER
God no it is bad enough my former boss is running. Be sure to vote for him. :)
The party heads to the most western passage.
The passageway turns north moments after it starts. After about 20 feet the passageway opens into another irregularly shaped room with a small pond on the east wall. Deep into the room you see a large jade and cherry chest with a skeleton sitting on top of it. The skeleton does not stir as you enter the room, apparently nothing more than a simple deceased Tian. Its ornate armor catches the light reflected from the pool showing a pattern of a rising sun on the center of the top.
Map updated.
Kagyu Mamoru |
Kagyu moved to catch up to Losjien and shield him, and the party, from whatever the sorcerer might disturb. As he passed Miyagi, he clapped him on the shoulder and channeled healing energy directly into him.

Miyagi sighed as the last skeleton fell to his fists. After a moment to catch his breath, Kagyu felt better upon being clapped on the back by Kagyu. "Thank you, friend."
Following the group, he beheld the cave and gazed upon the chest. "Something tell me that belonged on Kaijistu's Blossom."
Gortrek the Honorable |
As the fight ended, Gortrek shook his blade before resheathing it. Continuing to hold his torch alight, he followed the crew.
As he entered, he note the skeleton atop the chest. He shook his head.
"Kagyu, would you please hold my torch? I believe in the name of safety, Miyagi-san and I should preemptively deal with skeleton atop the chest. While there is a chance it's not animate, I believe it would be better to be safe than sorry."
GM Red Box |
As the party steps into the room the skeleton, predictably, rises to attack. Unlike the other skeletons wakizashi this blade is shiny and clearly very well made.
While the blade is in great condition the handle looks a little loose. Probably in need of some repair.
Before he steps forward the skeleton touches the blade to its own arm and then points back at you as it advances in a fighting stance.

As Kagyu approached the most recently risen skeleton, he weighed his actions. He is companions where healthy. Miyagi was was out of reach to ward or enhance. But Gortrek would always be a more damaging fighter than himself...
With that in mind he, moved within striking range of the skeleton and touched Gortrek with a bit of luck hoping he could land another devastating blow.

Gortrek a direct hit but this skeleton is clearly tougher then what they have battled in the past. Also it is clear that the sharp edge of the blade is less effective against a walking skeleton.
Kagyu slips forward and grants Gortrek a boon to his next rolls of the dice but opens himself up to an attack.
Miyagi has one fist connect but the blow bounces harmlessly off of the creatures armor.

Losjien Hallow |
As the bones and armor shatter to the ground Losjien stabs his spear forward and bows in a gesture purely ceremonial.

Glad I uncovered this one first try! Who wants it?
Gortrek the Honorable |
Gortrek has an idea in mind...
Gortrek wedged his torch in a rock so that he could finally clean his blade by hand. After doing so, he crossed his arms.
"It is clear that the chest and the belongings within it are property of the Kaijitsu family. As Ameiko is the last known member of the line, we should return it, along with the armaments of its guardian to her, post-haste."
Lawful is as Lawful does.

"If that how you feel, can return it." Miyagi replied, rubbing his knuckles a bit and grabbing one of the potion bottles. "Still, might be good idea to test things and identify what they are before our Sandpoint return. Who know if potions like this still good after many years of storage."

Kagyu turns to Miyagi and whispers:
"I can tell Gortrek is determined, and for what it's worth, I've known Ameiko to be a generous woman." Loudly so the rest of the party can hear, "I'm sure she'll be happy to have some family heirlooms rediscovered."
Losjien Hallow |
"YES, Ameiko! We must bring it back. We should head west and finsh exploring this cave, after all we may never be back"
Gortrek the Honorable |
Gortrek nodded. "Then we are in agreement. We shall finish our exploration, and then return to Ameiko."
Looking at the blade, Gortrek holds out a hand. "The blade is well made, but damaged. Once we return, I will attempt to fix it. May I take a closer look at it so I may determine the damage?"
GM Red Box |
The party follows the final unexplored passage of the cavern which terminated in another pool of water. A number of glittering crystals protrude from an island surrounded in the middle of the pool of water.
As Gortrek draws near a Giant Amoeba sloshes out from the water intent on trapping a meal. Saldly for the Amoeba Gortrek's sword is sharp and slices though the creature immediately.
AC6 and only 15HP not making you do the combat. There is an image on the tactical maps though, its a pretty gross creature.
The crystals in the middle of the pool have no value.
Poking around the swamp or heading home?
Miyagi-san |
Soon after exploring the rest of the cave, the monk stretches his limbs. "Perhaps if enough light left, we explore more of swamp on way back to Walthus? Could be more out here and town would like map to use."
Losjien Hallow |
"Of course Gortrek" Losjien hands over the weapon. Before Miyagi finishes speaking Losjien is wandering into the marsh.
You will always have to pull losjien away from exploring any form of wilderness
Yes gross creature indeed!
Gortrek the Honorable |
Gortrek took the weapon in hand. Before he could take much of a look, the rest went on their way.
Following along, he was not entirely pleased with using his blade upon an amoeba, as the resulting cleaning was especially strenuous.
After cleaning it, he finally took a moment to look over the blade.
Is there a check to find the note, or is that automatic upon examination? I'll make a Craft[Blades] check just to be safe.
Craft(Blades): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
GM Red Box |
At a table I would have made you make a check but it one of those thing that in PbP I chose to skip. It could just bog things down and be easilly forgotten about.
The party heads out of the cave, deciding to look around for a bit more. Following the larger body of water to the east you encounter little thought you do find two more skeletons, armed like those you fought. They do not appear to have been damaged but they are clearly not animated.
Further on you find a ten-foot-high mound of branches, logs, and reeds lies amid the trees here, nestled in a narrow, muddy clearing. Flies buzz and swarm around the foul-smelling mound of rotting vegetation. From your position you can see what appears to be a narrow opening in mound.
You notice a large quantity of animal bones mixed in with the vegitation to the left side of what appears to be an opening.
Took a little narrative licence on direction as otherwise it is just a walk getting your feet wet.
Gortrek the Honorable |
As Gortrek looked over the blade, he noticed an off weight in the hilt. Broken though it was, he took a closer look before finding a note.
Am I correct in assuming the note is written in Tian? Gortrek can read that.
As Gortrek read the letter, his brow furrowed. "Strange..."

Gortrek looked up from the note before handing it to Miyagi. "I assume you can read Tian? I believe there is more to this treasure and the Kaijitsu family than even Ameiko is aware."
