I'm not super clear on the best way to format combat posts, but I gave it a shot. I think it's all correct. Let me know what works and what doesn't.
Also, I'm digging the pictures. Those skeletal samurai look disgusting.
GM Red Box
Eveyone does combat a little different here is an example of how I do it so clearly I like it.
---------
Acting fast Mic advances on the goblin and attempts to deliver a knee strike to its mid section.
Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Move action and attack.
-------------
I then preview and if I rolled a potential critical hit I add a confirmation role and potential damage.

Loot
You have your first piece of loot and it has been added to the loot sheet. Please familiarize yourself with this sheet because you can edit it.
I will try and always enter the name of the item along with the value.
If you want an item enter your name in the "who took" column.
If something is sold the income is placed in the "Sale Value of Items" line. This line, along with the "gold found" column, auto-populates total wealth.
Purchases are entered in the red column.
Handing out gold to individual party members is also logged in the red column. This will leave this sheet always showing group resources.

A general PBP question: how is everyone tracking when posts are made? I log in a few times a day but there has to be an easier way. Email notifications or something?
Losjien Hallow
|
I tried to get the feeds to work for notifications but couldn't get it to work. Good question.
GM Red Box
I have never got the notifications to work BUT I would suggest grabbing this guys extensions. Makes the in browser experience more managable.

I was trying to use an android app to post from my phone and I didn't notice that it wasn't posting from my alias. Sorry about that.
GM Red Box
No worries. Almost eveyone had done it.
GM Red Box
Oh I never mentioned I will be using milestone level progression so no need to track XP.

So...battle diplomacy? A lost cause, or a lost cause?
When someone throws the first punch, it usually means diplomacy is out the window.

Gortrek: "Does no one in Pathfinder simply lie about taking drugs or failing to clean their house?" LOL this was great.

Gortrek: "Does no one in Pathfinder simply lie about taking drugs or failing to clean their house?" LOL this was great.
The one thing I will try and do is, after the fact, let you know some of the backstory. The amazing thing that paizo does in an AP is create amazing backstories for what is going on. The sad thing is the players rarely see what is up.
Generally one something is past the point of impacting the story I will give a little info on what spit storm you just walked into.
Gortrek the Honorable

To the best of my knowledge, unless you have particular abilities and/or feats, diplomacy to change someone's attitude to something less murdery requires at least a minute, or 10 rounds of standing there talking while he tries to stab you in the ankles.
GM Red Box
What Gortrek says is correct. Generally it would need to take place before combat starts and, in many cases, is hard to execute.
in this case this guys is pretty desperate, injured and not willing to talk it out.
Kagyu Mamoru
That's what I figured, but I figured it wouldnt hurt to back up his surprised plea with a roll, though it's clear now this isn't the halfling.
And dang Gortrek! Way to cut em up!

I think it is very in keeping with a cleric, particularly at 1st level, to offer another way out of situations. It is the sort of thing that, as characters develop, leaves windows open for good RP.
It should also be mentioned that, despite using milestone XP, I do reward for good RP from time to time.

Hey, I dont think we've chatted about schedules, what days are best for you all to post?
I work long hours Sunday-Wednesday so often I cannot post anything detailed/comprehensive on those days.
Thursday-Sat I hold myself to a higher standard, promise. :)
Also going to get set up with the wayfinder app, that might help out. I'm still fairly new so sometimes simple posts take me a bit longer.
Good start so far!
GM Red Box
The goal would normally be a post once a day monday to friday and one post on the weekends. That said we all have lives and things come up so days with more are good and sometimes we all miss.
If we are in combat and someone doesn't post for 24+ hours I will normally bot them unless other arrangements have been made.
Gortrek the Honorable
|
I work in a quantum superposition of at work and not at work at most times, with the wave function being collapsed whenever my boss decides to call me. Which is a long way of saying I have no specific schedule. But I will try, at minimum, 1 post a day, if not more depending on the volume of other posts.

Thanks for understanding guys!...Gortrek...your job sounds scientifically nuts.

So in retrospect I should have [spoilerd] my spellcraft roll depeding if we stayed at Proudstumps house longer. Damn :3

Thanks for allowing another spellcradt roll this week. :)
I know no such curtesy will be offered as we get stronger. Better roll well next time 0_0

That gaming table is awesome. Many hiding spots for goblins...
Kagyu Mamoru
I'm really impressed with the maps you've set up.
Many hiding spots for goblins...
I'm not sure I'd call that awesome...
GM Red Box
Maps are fun. A lot come from the AP but others I find online or make in GIMP. When we get past book one I will link my notes file if people are intrested. I do a pretty big prep document for each book.
Kagyu Mamoru
I'm definitely interested in the notes. Some of the best story-tellers/world builders develop a lot of history and backstory to the worlds they build that the readers/player never see but result in deeper feeling stories.
Also, I updated my headline with CMB, CMD and I added a link to an excel sheet that has my spell load out that I use to track what spells I have prepared and what I've used so far.

Can I walk right in there? or is there a door of some sort. All of the gates are red on the map. Wasn't sure.
GM Red Box
The redish color is just a simple door. On my computer it is more of a brown. Basically the light colored squares are rooms. The 'corridors' are actually exposed raised walkways. Kind of like an old west sidewalk connecting the rooms.
I will give you the spoiler of none of the doors are locked but all you can see are closed.
Kagyu Mamoru
So... Losjien, did you just open a door and walk right in?
GM Red Box
I did not take it as such, no action word.
GM Red Box
LOL, I get that. X-Com2 has been keeping me up later then I should be up.
GM Red Box
A question for you guys, I would like a yes or no answer from each of you:
Question
Do you want to use the caravan system or just do some RP for those sections?
Why this question
The more I look at this system I am becoming concerned that it really is just a lot of book keeping to take place in a PbP game and may simply grind things to a halt. It is listed as option and I am seeing that most PbP games do not do it.
Kagyu Mamoru
I'll have to look over it again over the weekend. I glossed over it the first time. I'll get back with an answer by Tuesday
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Red Box
btw- I am happy either way. It is not a GMing question but a player question.
Miyagi-san
Answer to GM Question
RP sections would make things simpler for you in the long run and allow things to run smoother, GM. While I too would not mind keeping the Caravan mechanic, I can most certainly live without it. Still, if put to vote, I say we RP that stuff.
Game Question for GM
Since we're level 1, I think a 28 damage would nuke anything designed to fight us (like a goblin) from orbit, so would it be alright to assume that red is vaporized?
Gortrek the Honorable
|
While I am an RP centric guy, I personally enjoy the different little mini-mechanics thrown into the different adventure paths, and I feel like cutting one out misses the point of doing the path in the first place. Let my vote be firmly for keeping the caravan system, with possible alterations to keep things running smoothly.
Kagyu Mamoru
So, can we just take a second to gawk at the fact that 50% of the last 8 rolls are critical fails?
That's nuts.
Any only 2 are higher than 10.

I think the caravan mechanic looks really cool but completly understand the extra book keeping involved will be tedious at times. I would like to keep it even if it slows te game down a bit, I mean were all in it for the long haul and possibly adding another right?
Yes, those were some AWFUL rolls
GM Red Box
Re Rolls:
Your characters are all fairly new to adventuring so lets blame it on that.
Re Caravan:
Ok, we will us the mechanics for it.
Losjien Hallow
|
Party: would you want to try splitting up caravan book keeping and loot list book keeping to differnt people. Kind of have like a loot leader and caravan leader? Im sure it wont be long until this story takes us far away from this marsh.
GM Red Box
Loot is easy. I will enter things in the list and you guys just need to decide what you want to sell and what you want to carry. The spread sheet is pretty easy.
GM Red Box
Please denote what you take on the loot sheet, if you take anything. At this point Gortek can carry everything for sale later that is not used if he has a backpack.
Losjien Hallow
|
So what does everyone want from the loot? A longbow could really help me stay relevant in combat.
GM Red Box
The bow is sized small so it would be a shortbow for you. I have no idea of Sorcerers can use it but I am betting they are not proficient so it would be at a penalty.
Kagyu Mamoru
For gear, I'm happy with anything that makes me a better tank. I'm curious to find out what the cloak does before I lay claim to it. And if no one else wants the masterwork spear, I'll happily use the +1 bonus it confers.
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Red Box
The spear is a small spear so if you want to use it would have the statistics of a javelin. I will not make you take the -4 in melee as a true javelin receives.
If only there were a halfling in the party.
Kagyu Mamoru
Ah, I mistakenly thought it would be a short spear. In that case I only tentatively want the cloak if it is a defensive item
